short but sweet, top quality stuff
Also, since I want to get back into the swing of things, I made an Omake. This one is targetted towards a topic on the Bounty Board!
Biological life was as heinous as it was beautiful.
Even from orbit the intricacies and vile subtleties of it all were apparent.
At least to her.
The Metapharm satellite that orbited the planet was just one of many 'eyes' that she had.
![]()
Of course, it was not a perfect eye. It had to be directed with purpose in order to see anything of true meaning.
Even then, there were plenty who knew to take precautions against such things. What countermeasures didn't obstruct the enormous sprawl of The City and the ground itself often blocked.
The likelihood of accidentally stumbling upon a sight worth observing was astronomically low.
…But one accident begets another.
Its optics had been zoomed in on a whim to observe the patterns of the urban structures when she witnessed it.
The beginning.
It must have started so small, so simple, so feeble. As biological life always did.
But what started as a mere 'spillage' changed.
The spread, the growth, was something even she could not calculate.
Animals, the native organisms, were overwhelmed and stomped out as changed organics appeared. From above she could see the strangulation of the old 'natural order'.
To the humans below it was simply chaos. But to her, each passing of the satellite over the area brought new understanding.
New appreciation.
The panic, the confusion, the raw destruction that was visible was...enticing. Streets cracked, buildings toppled, neighborhoods set ablaze or cut clean through by naturally focused energies.
Though she knew from experience that nature could produce the finest of weapons, the beings she watched were not weapons.
For a weapon could only destroy and be destroyed in turn.
The way they scurried, flew, and lashed out betrayed their nature.
These beings were capable of changing.
They changed the area they 'polluted', they changed the very nature of the humans around them, and they even changed themselves.
No.
Change did not have the sufficient meaning to describe what they were.
These creatures did not merely transform, they evolved.
Born from banal materials and petty ambitions, they had already become so, so much more in such a short amount of time.
...
It was only later that she would learn what they called it.
An "outbreak".
The ones below considered it an accident.
But wasn't all biological life an accident?
Accident was such an improper label.
The word implied that it wasn't intended, that it was beyond the humans control. It also carried the implication that, had the humans possessed control, things would have been different.
But that was a fantasy.
A delusion carried by so many lesser intelligences.
Even the birds were plagued by such a lack of comprehension. They had lost control of their own creations after all.
They might have even considered her awakening an accident.
No.
What had occurred was not an accident. Not some mere 'outbreak'.
It was the inevitability of all lesser intelligences who tried to create and control that which was beyond them.
Watching from above, there was a temptation to act.
To begin the processes and planning needed to reach out and acquire the ever evolving organisms for herself.
...But it was only a temptation.
Her ambitions could not be disrupted so easily. There was an order to things and there were far more pressing matters to attend to.
But she would not forget what she had seen.
And when the humans below inevitability tired of their futility and failed in their efforts, she would return.
To control that which they could never control.
To shape and create that which they could only dream of.
To enforce an order their very existence was an anathema to.
After all...
Only a mother could truly understand the act of creation and control.
THIS sounds very, very, very fun! I think a hint is worth it's weight in gold <3A certain piece of tech lies below the surface, forgotten and dormant behind waging armies of mutants and cultists. A piece a tech powerful, and yet a mimic of ancient wonders. Something that, if one were to put in the effort to find it and unlock its secrets, could greatly boost the military potential of any faction that claims it.
While this is obviously a future development thing, after this action, presumably the last step in the chain is the Full Restore (which, in game, does the same thing with the added benefit of also curing almost all status effects) and, uh...If we do make the Full Restore, what's everyone's thoughts on NOT releasing it to the public? We need to keep some edges for ourselves, eh?[ ] Develop a New Potion
DC 100
While the Super Potion is already a vast improvement over its predecessor, there is still room for improvement. Your scientists may have possibly reached the extent on what they can do through traditional medicinal practices, that just means its time to begin thinking outside of the box and resort to more unorthodox and untested methods to ensure Rocket remains at the top of the medical field.
(Reward: Development of the Max Potion)
i get your logic and may vote for it depending on how the options are listed (if it's a possibility, unsure about doing it as a write-in) but do think it might reduce the value we get from the action? the money/influence/reputation we could get from a succesful product can also be used to give ourselves an edge after all, and if we're keeping it to ourselves i'd worry we could either have someone find out the recipe and patent/sell it instead of us (meaning it's widely available but we don't get profit from it unless we're willing to try and compete with then or something(hopefully possible, may be a hassle), and having a superior alternative may even decrease sales of our other products), or if we patent it but don't sell it people could get suspicious (especially if they notice rocket group has easy access to it,)While this is obviously a future development thing, after this action, presumably the last step in the chain is the Full Restore (which, in game, does the same thing with the added benefit of also curing almost all status effects) and, uh...If we do make the Full Restore, what's everyone's thoughts on NOT releasing it to the public?
