The Voyage Without

Having both ships pretty much puts a tricobalt device into keeping on canon tracks.

(And the Neelix smell seems to point at a piece of fanon.)

The door opened and a stink filled the air, followed by the source of it walking inside, "I'm sorry we're late!" the alien exclaimed, "We weren't informed there was a meeting."

What the hell is that smell!? It smelled like... I don't even know what!? Tutankhamun's gym socks!?

I snorted and shook my head slightly.

as others have said, "oh no, the neelix pheromones!"

I wonder if that's why he can't smell that seska's not bajoran? Or maybe her disguise just is that good.

I can forsee neelix has an unfortunate airlock accident in the near future...

And nothing of value was lost
(Everyone probably)

If Q shows up, can we get the borg snowmen from STO? XD

wonder if no true captain(normal promotion and security briefing ) will the computer update janeway on the omega protocol when it happens or will no one beside seven of nine know what is going on ?

Well that sounds like the kind of thing that would be a hard coded information release to the highest ranking officer on scene the moment the computer detects their presence, not held back.
sure for normal ship operation but doubt the classified information gets released that way seems ripe for abuse and spies to take advantage off
just ensure a traitor is the only active member and get free access to information with how often command crew gets into weird situation and general starfleet operation

Mmmmm, maybe, but if it's as dangerous as I remember them being and all the data release contains is "destroy this, here's how?" Not really an information leak that star fleet wouldnt want spread around to those with the power to have spies in their fleets anyways you know?

Given the way they are dangerous, I could see any explanation of how to disarm them carrying implications of how they might be weaponized.

That said, if all captains have access to the information it's not that secret. And the last thing you want is a ship playing around with the nifty particles because of overzealous infosec.

That was why I added the bit about the information being released if the particles are encountered in that first post, cause at that point infosec takes a back seat to not blowing up interstellar communication and ftl travel

If I had to guess, in an emergency on the level of 'everyone is dead save these random ensigns and Starfleet Command is beyond reach', the acting captain is NOT informed by the ships computer.

BUT, if an Omega Directive is triggered, the Acting Captain gets read in regardless because Omega Molecules are Bad Fucking News.

I'm not sure what the parallel is, but considering the Maquis only seem to strike against the Cardassians I do wonder what Zephyr's problem with them is.
That was addressed by a line of text in chapter 9:
no matter how much I may feel for the cause of the Maquis... well, my compassion goes away when they start to attack civilian targets.
If they didn't attack civilians, he'd be a lot better disposed to them, as revealed in chapter 5:
"I think the Federation fucked those colonists over and I'm not surprised at all that they fought back."

Cavit frowned slightly, "The treaty stopped the war. Besides, Cardassian colonies ended up on our side of the new border as well."

I snorted hard enough that the water in my container rippled. I ate another chicken before I answered, "The Cardassians knew the 'soft' Federation would treat those colonists well. Not only that, but they gained a valuable intelligence pathway in and out of Federation space. Not so much for those colonies that ended up on their side. They were mostly populated by people that have already been driven from their homes historically. They had found a new home, built it up and then some people hundreds of lightyears away changed the lines on a map and suddenly the Cardassians arrived, jackboots marching to kick them out of their homes."

"So tell me, Commander," I continued, looking at him, "Say the same thing happened to your home. Lines in a map changed and suddenly Earth is considered Cardassian territory. Would you not tell the Federation to take a flying leap out an airlock and pick up a phaser?"

He let out a sigh and sipped his juice, "The treaty stopped the war. The dying."

"Not for them. And the war only stopped temporarily. A culture like the Cardassians can not tolerate not having total control. They'll build back up while doing whatever they can to destabilize us and in twenty, fifty, maybe a hundred years they'll come at us again."

That was basically what I was trying to say, so… this basically?
Except we don't know what "civilian targets" he's referring to, so the clarity doesn't really go far.
Yeah, gorilla wars are messy so we really don't know, plus, well they're also infiltrated by section 31 and the cardassians who both just love to use rebel groups as sock puppets so that's even more of a mess. Not that he knows that

I hope this isn't a reference to the fanfic Detox. While amusing, I don't think that's what you want to go for.

On the other hand, different species with different pheromones and smells should have been a thing that came up a long time ago. Smells like a Klingon sounds like a Meme.;)

If Q shows up, can we get the borg snowmen from STO? XD

Now I have to look them up, I don't play STO.

On the topic of Q, I'd kind of like Q to turn up with his usual arrogance and go "oh, you turned out nice!" to Zeph, only to have Zephyr jump to the conclusion it was Q's fault when it more than likely wasn't. I'd like to see Q running from a very pissed off dragon demanding explanations, but that'd require Q be vulnerable to him to be actually funny.

Doesn't seem hard to me. If you're not a member of a uniformed military group and you attack military targets, you're an insurrectionist/freedom fighter, while if you attack civilians, you're a terrorist.

If you are a member of a uniformed military group and you attack civilians, you're committing war crimes.

The Moral: Attacking civilians is wrong. It doesn't matter who those civilians are, it is still wrong. If the Cardassian military attacks (formerly) Federation civilians, they're committing war crimes. If the Marquis terrorist organization attacks Cardassian civilians, they're engaged in terrorist attacks.

They're from the yearly winter event where Q sends a bunch of captains to a winter wonder land with sentient snow people and one of the mini events is defending from a borg army of snowmen that make like, all of the ice puns
It's great
