The human ones are too zoomed out to be that enticing.
This is actually very useful to know, so thank you :smile2:
And even then we could probably rebuild it in weeks, or faster since with proper documentation we probably could use a Miracle... except all the data is scrambled and unsearchable, or lost entirely.
It's actually both better and worse than that. Mary is pretty sure you have most of the documentation, though figuring out where it aligns to what is going to be challenging. But the point she made on Miracles was that they could be actively counterproductive. You need this system to work as it did before.

Miracles result in creations of posthuman perfection, and usually that's been exactly what you wanted or humanity needed. But that very perfection can make the result very hard to understand - see how long it took humanity to reverse-engineer Unison Platforms. Except this is direct soulspace interaction, and the last example of that you have are the Void Crystals. Which as she's mentioned took decades to figure out.

Mary will not risk that here. Not when such a result could feasibly damage Animus' ability to connect to the system.

Shipteens are always interesting, a leader sitting and waiting for the results of their orders to come in sounds like something I want to see in this context, Neras are still a mystery so I want to see more of them and Kendl is always funny in a Tau in 40k kind of sense.

It's been a long time since we got anything but the most basic description of what our naval assets look, so I am interested in seeing that. Same with the Neras and Kendl.

Tossing up a tally. @edofthesquid you can't actually vote for the Hearthguard at this time as it's an in-progress story point.

I'd like to close this out today or early tomorrow. The Neras interlude is winning at present, but only by a few votes.

All of them, for everyone in this galaxy.

@Snowfire - would it make sense for Iris and Animus to prepare a plan of action in case the Consolat defense AI wakes up - or needs to be woken up because the SL realize they have visitors and call for fleets?

Animus: We would require a sympathetic Shiplord, some of the System Guardian command codes, or both.
Iris: Preferably both.

@Snowfire, I'm curious about something. You've stated in this past chapter that only unisonbound could do the work to manipulate the broken interface parts. Given Mary's statements about difficulty and scale, can you give us any idea of just how much needs to be done here? I mean, soulspace as it has been stated sounds like a potentially metaphysical realm, which doesn't lend itself easily to 3 dimensional architecture.

A lot needs to be done. You need to actually learn enough to diagnose the various problems, pinpointing where you can repair and where you have to dismantle. Animus has pointed your research teams to technical documentation, and that's going to help enormously, but given that even Mary is struggling to bootstrap herself just to the level of it making sense? That should tell you something about how difficult this will all be.

This will likely end up a shared learning process, as the Unisonbound are going to want to learn as much as they can about what they're about to have to do. But once the research teams are done, and have made the necessary modifications that Mary believes will let them actually run scans on the damaged interface, they'll be able to begin cataloguing the damage. It's important to note here that Amanda can certainly and very easily tell that the system is damaged. They'll even be able to narrow down points of more severe damage, and that will be useful. But even so, all of this prep is going to take a bunch of time, at least a few months realistically. Only after that's all done will you be able to begin repairs.

Except you can't fix this damage the 'normal' way that Potentials do. In almost all cases across the rebirth of humanity, when damage has been too great to easily resolve, Practice has provided a path. Here, you have to actively deny it, for reasons that I hope the update made clear.

At which point, well, to quote what I said to my tech group?

You'll need to clear and repair extensive, ancient damage inflicted on a system that fundamentally alters the way that certain aspects of reality function. All without damaging the core system, whilst using tools that are both imprecise and actively wilful. With all the practical work falling on a relatively tiny group of people, most of whom will need to be actively coached through what they need to do.

I'm aware that this may not give a full understanding of the scale, but I hope it helps at least some. Further questions are always welcome.

Weekend was busier than planned. Guess I finally get to write the Neras again ^^

I am excited. I've been voting for them each time they came up.
