*Sighs*

Let me explain the issue for you, in simple terms:

Yes, we are weak militarily and in all the othe meaningful ways.

HOWEVER, as a symbol, we could be dangerous. And the last thing the nobles need is some place showing that no, they don't need to have all these pesky nobles around to kick ass. If we go up against Chaos or what have you, and by some miracle win..... It could go badly for them.
We are not a symbol. If we start to succeed, then we could become a symbol but right now that's looking like a pretty big if. Why you might ask? Because right now Sartosa needs to rebuild from the fighting and its going to have a heck of a time getting money too do that because we just alienated all of our nearby trading partners, hamstringing our economy. In the mean time, at least one Tilean city-state has vowed to crush us. Even if by some miracle we manage to repulse their first attack, all that would do is increase how much we have to repair, rebuild and replace our casualties, leaving even more vulnerable to the next attack. We cant even persuade any of Trantio's more immediate rivals to attack them while they try to take us, because they aren't happy with us either.

But lets continue with this shall we, if by the blessing of the gods we manages to not only repulse Trantio's attacks but somehow even conquer Trantio things would only get worse from there. Before if we had managed to conquer another city-state it wouldn't have mattered, this is Tilea after all and the Great Game between the rival factions doesn't care if you are a kingdom or a republic. But now that's not the case, everyone is quite aware that we are not playing the Great Game, that we in fact intend to kick over the board. If we conquer another city-state all that would do is make the others call a cease-fire with each other like they did with the scaven and launch a combined assault against us that we are in no shape to win. It continues in that vein even if we do somehow conquer Tilea with Estalia, The Empire and Bretonnia all sending armies if we do.

It would take conquering Tilea in order to become the symbol you think we are and as we have alienated and openly threatened pretty much everyone in power, any possible success will have our neighbors dog-pilling us rather then leaving us alone and letting us grow stronger. We need power and success in order to become a symbol and by going French all we have done is choose ball-crushing hard mode.

hi guys! can someone do a tally for me please? also, your arguments would have earned you guys another 1d100 if it was in character. But I like @Void Stalker @Night_stalker @Chiperninerm various appeals to reason so I'm going to reward that with a 1d100.

So you guys currently have 2d100 to spend on the Monument to the People. would you like to spend both dice, just one, or none of it?
[] both dice
[] just one
[] save the dice for later

note: I can give you guys, another 1d100 if you can guess which WW2 Siege is the Battle of Miragliano inspired from. Here's a hint, it has a famous house/stronghold that sounds like Ratlov...:)

Well things are seeming rather neat so far.

Was a much bigger splash than I imagined would be. And with the cracking down on anything remotely republic Chaos will be brewing like hell from all the resentment in those countries.

And you really need money. I can't see how you'll get that though. No good natural resources, small island, bad diplomatic view.

You can't even do business with the Dark Elves or Skaven because you're so anti-Slavery.

This is the area in which people have a strong incentive to go Chaos. Tzeentch would be a good patron given the social changes.

If you think we're screwed, leave the quest. It'd be better than listening to your whining about how everyone else messed up your brilliant plan.
Okay then what is your plan? What do expect to do in this situation? Piss off the entirety of the Old World(already accomplished) and when Sartosa burns to the ground as a result hope we get views as martyrs spurning revolutions in all our neighbors? Because that's not going to happen, we'd be symbol all right, a symbol of the very failure of the concept of a democracy and rule of the common man. God damn SV's love of all things dwarf blinding them to political realities!

Not as much strife as you think. Social change is rare in warhammer, those calling for it a distinct minority even among minority social groups and now all of them are feeling the hammer thanks to us. There is no strong foundation of self government so there is very little to fuel resentment.

@Chiperninerm thanks for the tally! yes, you can use the d100 for diplomatic talks, as a save additional roll if a battle is going badly, and in influencing a faction (though that would be an automatic +10 to the faction's approval instead of rolling a dice for it), maybe some other uses as well...

edit: the voting is now closed...

the winning votes are:
[] yes, limit it
[] no one is perfect
[] equal distribution
[] pay for passage
[] repair the harbor
and...
[] Monument to the People...

how many dice would you guys wish to spend on the Monument?

As I said earlier, not everyone is going to be coming for us at once. Tilea still has Skaven problems, Estalia is always divided and squabbling, and the Empire and Bretonnia have bigger threats than us on their borders. All we have to do is hold our ground and sow dissent among the commoners in other countries. And since we have a unified citizenry that all have some combat experience now, we can field a larger proportion of our population as citizen-soldiers than other countries will suspect. The situation is not nearly as bad as your fear-mongering would make it out to be.

We have 4d100 right now so I say that we use only one for the building of the Monument and save the rest.
[X] just one
