Cycle 12.8
It was something else to be the one who received the reports now, you internally reflected while gazing at the holographic orb of Andernia III. You were no stranger to military campaigns, having even put a few under your belt, but that was under the Late Solar King's command and usually as an appointed staff officer/royal liaison. You were in that relatively safe middle-ground between those who were actually out there fighting, and then those who had the wrestle with the fate of all those devoted soldiers following high command. It was a duty that you excelled and rejoiced greatly in, being simply the bearer of news and never the cause of it, nor the one who took responsibility.

The type that could easily fade into the background to let others earn the glory and spotlight.

Yet now here you were, now high command itself that dictated how war was to waged on the planet below. A quick check to make sure nobody was paying attention, then you let out a haggard sigh and hung your head for a brief moment at the stress of the role. Even when you knew it was necessary, war still definitely was taking a toll on you. Not in the same way that the soldiers on the ground risked their very lives, but in the sense that you could feel the weight of their expectations, that you would make sure to bring them home safely.

Maybe it was why when HMS Callerya frantically reported severe damages in the wake of being with an airstrike, you were so viscerally torn between trying to maintain a calm facade, or roaring with indignation at the clear strike to your cheek from your sister. A cool and collected face won in the end, but you were fairly sure that a few of the other staff planners perhaps caught your displeased expression in the wake of that report. You mulled it over for a moment longer, then shrugged and let it roll off your shoulders. What was done was done.

Especially then with the sweet taste of success on the ground to help wash away that bitter sip of sacrifice. There had been a sense of elation that echoed around the war room when the 1st Royals dutifully reported their success, the linchpin of the gamble having succeeded to reap great benefits. Even now when you glanced at the moving blips representing the shifting airwing, it was a reassuring sensation that helped support the idea that the risk was well-worth it. You made the bet, and you won the pot.

The bet being the lives of human soldiers and the pot being the death of other humans.

You closed your eyes and mentally cursed your sister. When you finally somehow got her into your office and convinced her the sincerity of your genius plan, you were absolutely going to make her do something to try and make up for the lives lost in this pointless conflict. A speech? A dedication? A memorial? Something to try and publicly honor the lives lost on both sides already.

It couldn't be the next of kin notices, you already have been writing those out yourself and just needed Radana to give them a quick review.

The thought of your best friend down still on the planet below snapped you back out of future plans and onto what had to be done right now. Though you had a very strong suspicion that knowing her, Radana was calmly waiting in the holding cell, sipping tea even while the building she was being held in was being fought over between the Brilliance Knights. Your eye twitched slightly when for a moment, you could almost hear teasing words from your deceased sire about how eerily similar your situation was to his, about rescuing a good friend from traitors.

That was definitely a thought you were going to drown out with analytical thinking about your next campaign moves.

Battlegroup Iris Command: 32 +14 (Violet) +0 (Wealth) = 46
Battlegroup Iris has generated one (1) Command Points.

Battlegroup Iris Command Points: 1
Andernia Loyalist Militia Level: 0
Issue up to two (2) stratagems for Battlegroup Iris for this Subcycle.

[ ] Plan ____
-[ ] Stratagem
-[ ] Stratagem

-[ ] [Stratagem] Raise Supporters. Announce to all that it is not too late to join the fight. That all hands are welcomed, should they but heed the call of duty and enlist in a scratch unit to quickly arm themselves with whatever they can. Cost is equal to the current Militia Level. Will increase Militia level by one (1). Spawns free Militia units.
--[ ] Requires Specification (Ground/Air/Navy)
--[ ] Requires Controlled Planet

-[ ] [Stratagem] Stir Hearts.
Give bombastic and optimistic projections, while also reminding the locals of the hardships suffered at the hands of the opposition. Sow the seeds for further local support. Costs two (2) Command Points. Will decrease current Militia Level depending on chance.

-[ ] [Stratagem] Discourage Dissidents. Broadcast on all frequencies and all stations that the current conflict is not worth dying for. It is better for those prospective patriots on the opposing side to stay at home and watch from the sidelines to see how it all unfolds. Costs two (2) Command Points. Will increase the opposing side's Militia Level depending on chance.

-[ ] [Stratagem] Transit Overtime. Optimize and micromanage the timetables of transport craft going between orbit and atmosphere, forcing as much efficiency out of the system as possible. They must run on time. Costs two (2) Command Points. Units can move between orbit and ground for free this Subcycle.

-[ ] [Stratagem] Hidden Paths. Utilize all available scouting teams and local liaisons to find new hidden pathways on planets to open up a new dimension of campaign movement. Take the initiative with rapid relocation. Costs one (1) Command Points. Units on this planet can move two (2) planetary spaces this turn.
--[ ] Requires Target Planet

-[ ] [Stratagem] Underway Repairs. Go over and redo patchwork repairs with more well-put together fixes, preparing ships for more engagements without needing to retreat to a dockyard. Engineers will work overtime to glue their hosts back together, perhaps even still even doing so while battle is about to be joined. Costs two (2) Command Points and ten (10) Resources. All ships in orbit around this planet regenerate 2d10 Hull immediately (minimum six (6)).
--[ ] Requires Target Planet

-[ ] [Stratagem] Informed Strike.
Have intelligence officers pour over and carefully mark out local targets of high importance. Then pass it down to sure pilots to get rid of. Costs two (2) Command Points. Directed Airstrikes this Subcycle on this planet gain a +10 Modifier.
--[ ] Requires Target Planet

Wow that went extremely well so far! I'm uncertain, but did we fully capture the enemy airfield with their jets? Thus taking them out of play?
- Good timing, so what capturing the airfield has done is that you've basically kicked the airwing out of the tile, thus forcing them to spent this turn to relocate. This means they cannot Sortie this turn as they rebase and refuel. You also did some combat damage to them, and I'll say it wasn't insignificant.
- Stratagems will remain the same until the overhaul which will introduce the active/inactive stratagem decks. Pretty much going to be added with the new Intrigue system, the test of a smaller scale was definitely a good call all round in not just combat, but the surrounding systems supporting it.

- Remember you can choose to pass this turn to bank your Command Points. Just make a Plan indicating it so.

14 hour moratorium to come up with a stratagem plan.

Come to think of it, why did Sister whatshername rejected the offer for the throne anyway?

I say we save the point, 1 point only lets us move farther, but the units are pretty close to enemy units so movement isn't a big need

I swear, Violet should have drowned by now, given how deep she's in De Nile.

Come to think of it, why did Sister whatshername rejected the offer for the throne anyway?
Uh, because upon Radana revealing Violet had the Codex, she fell into the Paranoia Hole and convinced herself Violet had orchestrated everything including the death of the Solar King and this was just the next step in her 5D Chess scheme.

It's "planetary spaces" which I'm pretty sure is on a higher level than the Bastion city-hexes.

I believe they are the sections mentioned here (threadmark 12.4). Still not useful for the time being, I think, with the only other likely battlefield being one space away.
The other one-point action, to spawn militia from the locals, seems to run counter to our MO so far.

I am a little surprised that subcycles still occur "during" a battle. But yeah I don't think theres much of a point in getting a stratagem now. Maybe we could get the repair stratagem if we get another subcycle, but that seems like about all we'd want.

Depends on how long the enemy air force remains out of the action. With our current aerial supremacy, orbital bombardement with Informed Strike on the sector 5 HQ could be a finisher.

Informed strikes refers to airstrikes specifically. It would not buff orbital bombardment unless Celeshiro changed it.

It's a design choice I made to ensure that battles aren't solely happening in a vacuum where there's just the fight and nothing else. There's four subcycles before the cycle changes over, which I think is a fair balance between the combat and the stuff behind the combat. It means there could be background stuff occurring such as attempted peace talks or industrial retooling to add an additional layer of strategic consideration, not to say the more immediate thinking about potential reinforcements and the like.

what about our spies? can we turn them into saboteurs or active informants? cause it would be nice to either be able to blow up logistics and transports, and know where the enemy is without having eyes(scouts) on them
...
wait a minute isn't our sister fairly disliked, as in "if not for army, there would be rebellion" disliked, could we use our spies to incite rebellion if not riots? especially with said army currently busy with ehh "state security matters"(us)

we could also, depending on how much we want the sister alive, use our spies to locate her and then just... bomb her to death by way of destroyer, cut of the head of the snake and all that. now while that could risk ~some~ collateral and civilian deaths, then depending on how many civilians there are, that a risk I'm willing to take.

Cycle 12.9
[X] Plan Later Bloom

It was best to be a bit conservative for now and just work with whatever you had on hand at the moment. You so far had the upper hand, and you weren't going to recklessly throw it away now. Rather, perhaps it would be far wiser if you conserved your units, such as perhaps withdrawing HMS Callerya-

Your thoughts were abruptly interrupted by a chorus of low mutterings that suddenly broke out in the war room. You frowned and turned to the source of the disruption, a low-ranking communications officer that seemed to pale in the face of so many higher-ups glaring in a mix of disbelief and confusion at them. It was likely a breach of protocol to not go directly up the chain of command and you were tempted to just let it play out to remain that mysterious one at the top.

But there was something in your gut that nagged you otherwise and you hid a reluctant sight. "Come on through and tell us what's happening," You ordered with a raised voice. "Every moment counts."

After some exchanged glances, the strategists stepped back and allowed the officer to nervously salute and present a report. "Listening posts planetside and in orbit have reported increased traffic on civilian frequencies after another call to arms by the opposition." He held up a tablet and you nodded in permission, allowing him to connect his device to the tactical overlay. It immediately began to play taped voice clips that definitely caught everybody's attention.

"Whoever leads House Iris in the end doesn't matter. I'm thinking of setting out to journey now."

"Screw civic duty. Screw being productive to society. Let's make out like bandits!"

"Why are we fighting? If it's for the future, I don't care anymore. I want to go home to Helm."

On and on these messages went, each of them a dissenting voice or opinion against the ongoing conflict. You had to admit, it hurt just a little at how many were seemingly fed up with House Iris and wanted no part to do with its future, regardless of whoever led it in the end. That was the most worrying part, the idea that your sister's actions as the chosen governor was going to spill over to smear the entire family itself.

You were going to have to work twice as hard now to clean up that reputation before shoving her out there. Or maybe you could try and tug on some strings with your other brothers and sisters, see if their own greed for the succession was enough to overcome their strong distrust of you. Oh, you really couldn't wait to get back into your conspiracy and scheming in darkness once this all boiled over.

Hopefully that day would come even faster now with how many rejected the call for more militia from your sister. Now you had an opportunity to perhaps press an attack and your eyes fell onto the projection of HMS Wisteria in orbit around Andernia III. Now that was an idea...

House Iris Stratagems:
- No Stratagems have been activated.

House Iris (Separatists) Stratagems:
- Raise Supporters (Denied): Listening posts have reported that an attempt to raise further militia has been widely unpopular and few are answering the call. It seems your sister's actions have disillusioned the popular support for House Iris on the planet and none care to listen any longer.

- Suddenly, I'm again doubly glad I had this smaller test of the system because my original goal of not making militia blobby? Yeah, probably not a good idea to enable recruiting it back-to-back with little drawback. Probably will just bump up how much the Militia Level increases per action, like maybe two per.
- Note that listed in the example plan, a new action has been listed as an example. I'll say the condition for this comes from beginning a Subcycle with total orbital superiority. One ship per tile, please, and we'll roll based on their best armament. I hope this sates your eagerness for this said action.

Thank you for the update Celeshiro! May I request that units be listed with their current strength, maximum strength, and any ongoing critical debuffs?

I'm definitely thinking we might want Callerya to return to base. I'm also thinking we might want to sat-bomb D4. I don't think the colony ships would have anything valuable in them and it's a good chance to absolutely lay into our sisters forces. I'm honestly more worried about the fact she still has infantry there, but I also don't want to give her any chance to potentially escape if she can get the ships online. We don't particularly have to worry about hitting civilian targets. There might be small holdings but it isn't a city at least. If people are worried about hitting those small holdings - which is valid - I think we can still tac bomb the tile. I don't think we will need or want any bombing support in the city.

Given that Callerya has essentially been mission-killed during the last battle, their only action should be emergency repairs, then retreat.
Wisteria can and must bombard D4 to our hearts' content. Destroying the airwing would give us perpetual orbital superiority, and the ability to strike targets with impunity.

I'll list combat efficiency of the entire unit, but listing each and every single individual troop/unit every time is a bit too much for the strategic view. I'll try to remember do so in the battle planning for the involved units though.

That's totally fair! To be honest I was mostly referring

That's totally fair. To be honest I mostly meant the ships, and I should have mentioned as such. I'm sorry about that.

i'm still all for killing the sister hence
