This is Konoha, not Kiri; we're not going to be walking over water that often.
Water Walking is, primarily, a chakra control exercise. Aside from that BIG benefit, however, it should also help us at fighting on unsteady ground. Like sand.
From who? How?
Do remember that Suna are allies at this point in time, and Gaara is the son of their Kazekage.
What information Konoha Intelligence has is not being disseminated at the level of genin, else Gai would already have warned Tenten about his being a jinch.

I mean, presumably canon genin were not stupid, but none of the genin who were going to fight Gaara in the final exam put together a connection between Gaara's powers and Suna's jinchuuriki.
Just like noone figured out Naruto's jinch identity.

Presumably, information like this is not exactly left out for genin to come across.
Kakashi certainly didn't tell Sasuke.
Hmm, that's a good objection. I would probably say "observe him for a day, try to talk to Hinata, who saw him fight and use chakra with her Byakugan, talk to as many people as you can about him:. Something like that.

We should learn Branding Judgment Attack. Then sneak attack all the competition and delay the damage until the match.

Probably can't afford that.
We are a Presence 0; we don't need to make things worse. Not all problems can be fixed by punching or stabbing them.
At least, not yet:V
In fact, given that we're missing lots of trainers for various arts and DEFINITELY missing out on a lot of discounts, which are the things that socials are indicated to grant at sufficient advancement, skipping socials sounds like a good way to reduce our combat ability in the mid and long term.

It's a tradeoff best made if you need a specific power right now.

Is it?

Not unless we have Keen(Sense)Technique and RST.
I remember what happened to Dosu in canon, and dude is being shadowed by either Kabuto the ANBU killer or Baki the special jounin killer. When he isn't, he's usually trying to kill people. Like Sasuke at his training ground. Or Lee in the hospital. Or those chuunin at the stadium.

We don't have Kakashi watching our back 24/7, and Gai is kinda stretched at the moment.
Are you ready to dive headfirst into Plot with barely any charms?
I'm not.

Yeah. I mean, its whole introduction in the series is "this helps your chakra control". Sure, it increases mobility, but the initial narrative reason it comes into play is to help Naruto increase his (kinda terrible) chakra control. After that, I'd agree with @Yog about utility on sand, or mud.
Plus, Konoha's in the middle of a forest, and we've seen there are rivers and the like.
Even more plus, I bet making WW better will boost Tree-Walking, which is also relevant.

So what is the vote for learning tirelessly sentenal?
Trying to type up now but if you can that'd be great. Busy.

If we can sleep whenever during the day, 3 actions resistances, sleep, end day, 2 actions resistance, sleep, 1 action resistance, end day, 1 action tireless, sleep, two actions tireless, end day, sleep, 2 action tireless, and done. Add whatever for the day, we're at 3 Fatigue but got Tireless in only four days with time to spare, and now don't need to sleep.

Yeah. The math is easier than writing this.

[] Plan Hard Work 1.0
Training(x14 Actions)
-[] Resistance 2 x3 [Resource: Gai]
-[] Resistance 3 x3 [Resource: Gai]
-[] Tireless Sentinel Technique x5 [Resource: Gai]
-[] Water Walking x3 [Resource: Alone]
Social(x6)
-[] I can't believe it's not Genjutsu?
-[] A Quick Check-up
-[] Meeting the competition (Shikamaru)
-[] Paying a Visit (Lee)
-[] Baths x2

Day 1: Train, Train, Social, Sleep
Day 2: Train, Train, Social, Sleep
Day 3: Train, Train, Social, Sleep
Day 4: Train, Train, Train, Sleep; 1 Fatigue
Day 5: Train, Train, Social (Baths), Train; 1 Fatigue, Tireless Sentinel Technique
Day 6: Social (Baths), Social, Train, Train; Tireless Sentinel Technique

[X] Plan Hard Work 1.0

Would like to finish it a few days earlier, but this works. Good charm, plus more time for training and social.

Thanks.

Now we just have to add in a few stunts like using treewalk to anchor our feet when training with Gai.

@uju32 Your plan is good, but I think we need to Stunt the how's of observing our enemies? @Crilltic Am I right, or would we have an interlude where we do that?
Apparently not for Training, according to the GM.

Pretty much this.
I'm not comfortable attempting to optimize our downtime when Social is kinda important for access to chakra and fuinjutsu techniques of increasing complexity. Especially when we have yet to see the system in operation yet.

And given that we have yet to figure out HOW we gain or lose Limit in this AU....

@Crilltic
Just out of curiosity, what is required for this?
Manipulating Attack Blades

Yeah, but Tireless gives us the choice of either doing social, extra social, or extra training. We could get two social and two training a day done no problem.

I really think it's an added boon all around and a good long term investment, regardless of which route we go. Or what becomes available. Plus, it's cheapest with Gai here.

-[x]stunt: "So Shikamaru are you actually planing on trying to pass the exam? Or are you going to forfeit the first fight?"

No it is not.
The more I think of it, the more convinced I am.

We have 4 weeks of training before we are invaded.
You are investing an entire week of that into a stay-awake charm that does nothing else in the belief that we will make up that deficit before we have to deal with jinchuuriki and S-class ninja.
That's remarkably optimistic.

We don't know how our Exaltation works in this universe. We have yet to figure out how we gain Limit.
We regain less Essence when awake than when asleep, and I think we only regen WP after sleeping too.
And the only way we can get anywhere is pushing ourselves to the limit.

Frankly, the only thing I would monotrain at the moment is Dodge.
Get it to Dodge 3, and buy RST.
And then try for the perfect dodge because Bad Touch is a thing in this universe.

But I want to try Social to see if we can find a tutor for Dodge first.

[X] Plan Precision

I don't think Hardwork earns back enough training slots to make up for the week we lose now. After the invasion? Sure. Sooner we get it the better. But in the single month crunch time we have? Eh.
