As for Gai, I should have made that more clear, but yes. He gives a -25% XP cost for training Taijutsu, Athletics and Resistance (rounded down).

That puts Resistance dots at 3 XP each then. And with Tireless Sentinel, we could do three Training Actions a day, if we spent our social in the sauna burning off an extra point of Fatigue.

Still unsure it's worth the commitment, but the option is definitely there.

But not Dodge? Huh.
We should probably consider that in next turn's planning; because that makes both taijutsu and Increasing Strength Exercise more attractive.

Good point; we'd have to burn 11 out of 12 training Actions to get this next turn, but we'd come out ahead.
I think.

GM? Is this workable? Or would we be breaking the mechanics to do this?

Huh,
Might have to run the math on this later.
If we have three weeks after this, we could have 21 extra training actions if we foresake all other social. So even if we only go all in 75% of the time we still come out ahead.

We are losing a lot of social this way, at least stuff not random encounters, but that's the trade off.

Not too sure we should forsake much Social since it could unlock special things and can give us XP too along with other goodies like mentors, allies or sidequests ya know?

Probably can't afford that.
We are a Presence 0; we don't need to make things worse. Not all problems can be fixed by punching or stabbing them.
At least, not yet:V
Can someone go over the Presence/Socialize split. Because I always thought it was "Presence = Large Groups and/or talking at people" and "Socialize = Small groups and/or talking with people"

Typically it's
Presence: 1 on 1 or small groups
Performance: large groups, also musical performance
Socialize: social group management (not face to face), also etiquette

But there's a lot of disagreement there. What are you going with @Crilltic?

EDIT

From the Ex2E Core book.
That's kind of what I thought it was. Of course I was basing my assumption off of Zenith = Priest and Eclipse = Ambassador.

Talking at people being instilling them wit some form of emotion, thought, or... I don't know. That just strikes me as preaching in a way, which I see as talking at.

And then talking with would be flattering, listening, responding, etc. The things an ambassador would need/want.

No Gai doesn't give a bonus for Fuinjutsu, and yes it does. (Even if it's not physically taxing, staring at seal structures for hours is still mentally taxing).
The followup question then: who made Lee's weights?

Also, a question: Crafty Observation Method. Can it be used to assess the full composition of someone's equipment at a glance without them noticing? Basically, let's say we are facing Temari. We use the charm. Do we learn that her fan has seals on it, and that those seals summon a sickle weasel (as we could have learned in fifteen minutes of unopposed investigation), and the number of explosive tags she has hidden and where all her scars are? With Naruto, do we discover his seal?

Because if yes, that becomes one of the most important charms to buy quickly, as that negates the "aha, I have this McGuffin with me" kind of surprises, like "oh, and this is an Orochimaru-summoning scroll I had with me, enjoy".

Also, @uju32 what are your thoughts on getting intel about Gaara? Several reasons for it:
1) Something we could use to barter with other participants, especially Konohan ones. "I tell you what I know about Gaara, you tell me something about yourself" or, in case of Shikamaru "you actually give a good show, so we can both / I (if you don't want to) advance"
2) He's the most powerful and dangerous, prepping for him will take the longest time
3) It (potentially, if we discover Shukaku) gives us a reason to develop "kill immortals" charm faster (what do we need to do so, anyway? Because permadead shukaku kinda moves story in very interesting direction).

On bringing Sakura with us: 1+1 >2. Synergetic effect. We can provide thrust of argument, Sakura can provide emotional appeal.

Crafty Observation Method is for sherlock scanning a crime scene, not spawning information out of the ether.

Actually, Tireless Sentinel can let us do more social actions if we want. We don't need to sleep, so we can socialize in the morning and train all night.

Plus we may not get Gai's undivided attention in the future for his bonuses...

Yeah, I'm convinced. Tireless Sentinel now is a worthy investment. Hell even resting at the bathhouse is a boon because we're virtually assured of meeting Jiraiya.

Soon as I get home, I am typing up a plan. We can get Tireless Sentinel in 5 days. Maybe 4 if we really push it or write a 3 dice stunt for it. It will take some creative scheduling but it is doable. Moreso if we are willing to exhaust ourselves and then spend the next day doing nothing but social.

Well, yes, obviously. So, it says:
This Charm functions exactly as a dramatic Investigation action that takes up to 15 minutes, save that the character performs it in a handful of seconds and does not need to ransack the scene.
My question basically is: "are people part of the scene"? Let's say we are in a room, having tea with Temari, who has all her equipment on her. In 15 minutes of "ransacking the scene", her included, we could learn how much money she has in her wallet. Do you agree with that? So, would we be able to use that charm and obtain that information?

No, people cannot just be acted upon in that way. You want to go through Temari's shit, you have to go through Temari. You don't get to spawn how much money she has in her wallet out of the ether, because unlike a crime scene, she can object to you going through her stuff.

A crime scene can object too. I am not trying to be difficult, just trying to understand. Let me give you several examples, as you seem to be more knowledgeable, so I could understand how it works better:
1) There is a box on the scene. In the box there is a letter. The box has no lock, the letter is not in code. By using the charm, do we get to know what's in the letter? In fifteen minutes we would have opened the box, and read the letter.
2) Same as 1, but the box has a lock we can easily break.
3) Same as 1, but a box has a lock we could (if we are lucky) break / open, but it's not a guaranteed success. Do we roll additional dice to see if we get the contents of the letter, auto-succeed if at all possible or fail to get the contents of the letter?
4) Same as 1, but the box is trapped. When we open it, it'll release an uncurable magical posion that might kill us in 15 minutes, or might not. We'll have a chance to read the letter before dying
5) Same as 4, but the poison will kill us immediately, we have no counter
6) Same as 1, but instead of a box, it's carrier pigeon
7) Same as 6, but the pigeon is a summon on the level of a new genin in ability
8) Same as 6, but the pigeon is an elder sage of the pigeon summon clan who can kill us before we can react

Basically, as worded, to my understanding, yes, we could get the information about how much money Temari has on her, as, in fifteen minutes of dramatic actions, we could get that information from her.

4 weeks before the 3rd Stage.
We do need to grind Chakra Skill though.
And a War Specialty in Small Unit Tactics would not go amiss.

Rushing Panoptic Fusion because it's both a DV booster and boosts our offense; it has Awareness Excellency as a prereq, so we have to take it.
4x Actions in training Shunshin gets us that technique, and allows us to go for Water Walking next week, which helps with grinding Chakra Skill.

[X] PLAN PRECISION
Training(x12 Actions)
-[x] First Awareness Excellency x4 [Resource: Gai]
-[x] Panoptic Fusion Discipline x4 [Resource: Gai]
-[x] Shunshin x4 [Resource: Gai]
Social(x6 Actions)
-[x] I can't believe it's not Genjutsu
-[x] Meeting the Competition x2 (Shikamaru and Dosu)
-[x] A Quick Check-up
-[x] Paying a Visit x2 (Temari and Lee)
Would you be willing to swap Shunshin for Water Walking? I'm of the mindset that WW would help Shunshin more. Otherwise, I like the plan.

I fear Lee/Gai will kill themselves training if they see us training without actually resting. They´re already pushing themselves to the limit....

Honestly, Gai being very busy retraining Lee in the nearish future is another reason I want to get Tireless Sentinel now. This is a pretty good time to start.

I don't think Gai will kill himself trying to keep up with us. It's like we have a bloodline. Lee...maybe not, but Gai will probably rein him in.

Also they can probably handle way more Fatigue than Tenten so they might work on matching her from a different angle.

Its similar to Stunting. You can Stunt interacting with another person, but you cannot Stunt their Reactions or Actions. So while we might very well be able to get her purse in 15 minutes, you cannot say you did until you actually do so. People, or anything Sapient, has narrative weight to them like that.

If strict reading of a Charm leads you to a ridiculous result, the appropriate response is "ignore that result." Crafty Observation Method exists to let you do cool sherlock scanning stuff and bypass scenes that are narratively uninteresting. It doesn't exist to let you get all the benefits of punching someone out and rifling through their belongings without any of the risks of doing so.

Even mechanically you're incorrect, however; the charm constitutes a single fifteen-minute dramatic action, it does not allow fifteen minutes of dramatic actions.

This is Konoha, not Kiri; we're not going to be walking over water that often, which is presumably why Tenten hasn't learned it despite almost a year as a genin.
I would argue that speed over land is significantly more critical here.

Still......
*shrug*
Does anyone agree that we should go for Water Walking first?
Also, @uju32 what are your thoughts on getting intel about Gaara? Several reasons for it:
From who? How?
Do remember that Suna are allies at this point in time, and Gaara is the son of their Kazekage.
What information Konoha Intelligence has is not being disseminated at the level of genin, else Gai would already have warned Tenten about his being a jinch.

I mean, presumably canon genin were not stupid, but none of the genin who were going to fight Gaara in the final exam put together a connection between Gaara's powers and Suna's jinchuuriki.
Just like noone figured out Naruto's jinch identity.

Presumably, information like this is not exactly left out for genin to come across.
Kakashi certainly didn't tell Sasuke.
