In other news, I'm terrible and forgot to finish and include your Personal actions. I'll add them in this afternoon.

Before you ask, no, it won't eat any of your dice.

Oh thank god... There's few enough as is :/

Also, if someone else can write up a good Presidential Address, well, that's the only reason I didn't put any effort into trying to fit it in. It's also something I think is big, but as I don't have any idea what to write for it... Yeah. It's very much a 'In need of Write In' option.

A note here, you don't have to write out an address or speech for me, that just gives a bonus on your roll. If you can't think of anything in particular, give me a short list of the points you want to hit and I can work with that.

Yeah... that's the problem... can't really think up anything cohesive/accurate/in character/feels right enough for that...

Also, not really sure what the others want, because we haven't 'fleshed' the character's personality out to the extent I've seen in many other quests yet.

Some points I can think of:
  • Unity in these dark times, more so than ever. Discrimination is unnecessary; stupid, even, in the face of the Shiplords.
  • Believing in a brighter future. For all the Shiplords have destroyed, we have regained, we have surpassed. We will rebuild Earth, better than ever.
  • Embracing your Potential. Every Potential is useful; it's about how you use it. (tied back to the 'discrimination is stupid' thing. I'm pretty sure there's some against the Potentials that aren't 'powerful' in the traditional sense.)
  • Emphasise the return of the Shiplords. Reveal the Pattern, if it isn't already common knowledge. (tied back to the 'brighter future' part. "We will defeat them. We will triumph, and build a better future!" Y'know, inspiring and all that jazz.)
Feel free to add more. I'm pretty sure I missed a lot.

[] Powerful Echoes: You've become steadily more convinced over the years that there is something deeper hiding in what Potentials can do, some ability to touch concepts and influence metaphysics in a way that is terribly hard to understand. You've reached for it before, see if you can find it again, and hold onto it this time.
Ooooh, power upgrade.

And Mechanics Corner added in one of the reserved posts. If you have any questions about mechanics that aren't answered there, let me know ^_^;

Sounds good and proper for our first presidential address. Mind if I use it as a base?

[] Singing Heart: Music, particularly song, has always been an escape for you, a way to reconnect with yourself. You've also found it an excellent way to connect with a large number of people, but you're not really sure about the concerts Kazuki seems to want you to be part of. Taking some time to practice properly should help.

To Finding Our Feet, I like the power upgrade option, but right now we need the possible dice from the Diplomacy action more, which this synergises with.

Unless a glut of discussion pops up overnight, I'll probably call the vote tomorrow afternoon and work on the turn results in the evening.

Call it thirteen hours or so.

Well, there're only two differences between the plans, and they're...

Stewardship
Base of Operations vs. The Lifeblood of War

Personal Actions
Powerful Echoes vs. Singing Heart

Pretty much the advanced facilities on Mars vs. the untapped resources of the solar system, and practicing our Practice vs. our Diplomacy.

@Pyro Hawk, you seem to be missing one die in your plan. Learning gives a free die so you're spending 10 right now. Might as well get from the points on my Presidential Address if you want something already modified.

Okay, guys I did put the Presidential Speech in. And upon recounting it seems like I only spent 9 Regular Dice... I 'think' I've corrected that, can someone else double check for me? I don't trust myself right now...

Comes to 11 dice for me.

Calling vote. Might be a little early but I don't see it changing.

Plan Finding Our Feet wins.

Turn 1 - Results
Your first year in power almost blurs together as you look back at it. Your first major speech, the reaction of the world as you began a flurry of new projects to support the military that you soon must build. A tour of dozens of cities around your government work, speaking at all and performing at many. It was good that you practiced your singing.

Presidential Address
It takes surprisingly little time for the apparatus of government to swing into gear when you express the desire to address humanity. The first information from the Circles arrived in advance, it's almost as if they knew what you needed before you did, and you're able to work their suggestions into your first speech as President. It's nerve-wracking when the day comes, knowing you're about to stand in front of the entire world. But the speech is good and you know can deliver it.

[Roll: 79 + 49 = 128. Greater Success!]

As it turns out, you're entirely correct. More than correct, in fact.

"The Shiplords tried to break us with the Week of Sorrows, to leave us floundering in pain and futile anger. They failed. We healed, we rebuilt, and now we stand together to defy them. The Pattern warns us that they will return, but that is to their detriment, not ours. When they came before, we were not ready for them, and the Dragons brought down two of their ships. With what we can do in ten years, not one of their ships will leave our Solar System. They underestimate the strength of our unity, the power of our hopes, and we will make them understand that."

That particular segment ends up on almost permanent rotation for the next week, and public support floods in. Even some of Congress is swept up in the wave, although Marcus tells you that at least some of it is a result of their constituents more than personal preference. You couldn't have asked for a better foundation to build on.

(+1 Action dice, +5 to rolls involving Congress for 2 years.)

The Bureaucracy 41+ needed.
Coming off of the high of a wildly successful speech, you find that Kazuki has arranged some options for your first social with your administration. You spring for a small, informal affair with the mid-level staff. You need to get to know these people, and get them working with you instead of just for you.

[Roll: 42 + 49 = 91. Solid Success]

The event goes off swimmingly, and by the end of it you're quietly confident about a future working relationship. As the year progresses you and Kazuki organise more events, meeting hundreds of the people who make up the complex machinery of your government. By the end of the year, your Ministers are reporting a noticeable increase in efficiency and working satisfaction from their staff.

(+1 Action dice)

Those of the Circles 61+ needed.
One of the first you did after being sworn in was send messages out to the Circles, asking for their help in the most trying task of your entire life. You knew a lot about the world, and you'd worked tirelessly to help it heal, but humanity was vast. Not even a Potential could keep up with all of its needs on their own.

[Roll: 100 + 66 + 49 = 215. Natural critical reroll: 66! Victory margin of over a hundred! Overwhelming Success!]

Luckily, you're anything but. The first reports come in even before your speech, making you wonder if the Circles had already been putting together files like this for a while. The flood of concise and indexed reports that follows shortly afterwards confirms your suspicion, not that you're in any position to complain about it. Your State Department spends months chewing through the seemingly endless data, and are able to fast-track several of their projects that were bogged down in the approvals process. And those staff groups will be available for assignment next year. Perfect.

(+1 Action dice, actions unlocked, 1 free Diplomacy action next year)

The People Sing 31+ needed
You aren't quite sure what to think when Kazuki presents his plan to you; a series of concerts and other major events across the planet in a 'Grand Tour' fashion that will bring into contact with as much of humanity as possible in quick time. Events you're fine with, you're a fine speaker and the wild success of your first speech has done a lot to help your confidence. But concerts? Where you'll be singing? You haven't sung in a concert format since you were a teenager. You kept in practice, sure, but for something like this?

[Roll: 81 + 49 = 130. Greater Success!]

Apparently thirty years of casual practice is more than enough when combined with a crash course from a master. Kazuki is an excellent tutor, and you nail your first concert with a rendition of a song you wrote in your twenties. Exactly where he dug up the lyrics and score for it you will never know, but it works wonders. You find something strange in the midst of the events however; the taste of Practice on your fingertips, and a feeling of...something.

(+1 Action dice, actions unlocked, +5 to Powerful Echoes Personal Action)

Steel Wombs 51+ needed
You worry a little as you issue the construction orders for the shipyards that you know without a doubt you're going to need. Humanity has returned to the stars, and the orbitals were good practice in zero-g construction, but you had the advantage of pre-Sorrows designs to work from. The humanity of the Secrets never needed orbital construction facilities, not the type you need now.

[Roll: 54 + 40 = 94. Solid Success.]

Adriana apparently doesn't need to care about trivial little niceties like that. She finishes her designs in record time, pulling extensively from some early 21st century plans for mining platforms and…old sci-fi vids? Seriously? The work is slow at first, suffering some setbacks due to problems on the integration end that Adriana is still a bit weak at.

Practice roll: 72 + 41 = 113. Solid Success

But that's why you assigned some Potentials to the job, now wasn't it. They're quick to identify the problem, and spend most of the year working on ways around it. The result seems underwhelming, at least until Adriana turns on the tablet they gave her. You're not quite sure how they squeezed that much processing power out of a platform that small, but the intuitive design software loaded onto it should allow Adri to deal with system integration far easier.

(Action locked for one year, +5 to Stewardship for orbital construction projects)

The Lifeblood of War 51+ needed

After seeing what Adriana came up with for the shipyards, you were a little less worried about handing her the initial construction projects for making use of Sol's resources. It's mining and resource handling on a scale never done before, but you are a bit more confident now.

[Roll 52 + 40 = 92. Solid Success]

That confidence is well founded. Adriana goes to the project with a will, and is able to rely on the old plans that she used as a springboard for the shipyards to save a great deal of time in the planning stages. Work is still slow to begin, but there are far less integration issues.

Practice roll: 68 + 41 = 109. Solid Success

And that's where the Potentials assigned to the project change just about everything. The Potentials sent to the shipyard project were suited to design work, mostly drawn from the Second awakening. Those sent to this were of the Third, and they are far more hands on. They take the tools and systems used in the construction of the main installations and Practice them into much more than they were. The mining infrastructure is completed by the end of the year and you fly out personally to open the main station. You'll need to get some more smelters online and build up more of your orbital infrastructure to process it all properly, but it's an excellent start.

(Actions unlocked)

Full Rebuild 71+ needed
You know that the idea is ambitious when you propose it, but years spent working with the infrastructure network of Earth gave you some unique insights into how to fix it. Combining the survey and repair project will be hard, but you are adamant that it's possible, to the point that you join the team of Potentials you assign to the project to help Adriana and her people.

[Roll: 85+ 40 = 125. Solid Success]

The Pre-Sorrows network had fallen into disrepair with the loss of the Second Secret, with no one left with knowledge of the biocircuitry that carried the majority of its functions. Electronic backups did exist, but the majority of them had broken down as well from seventy or more years of disuse. Early 21st century solid-state had never been the most durable. Your teams are able to chart out the vast majority of it and you and the other Restorer Focused with you fill in the rest. It's a massive job, but you have comparably massive resources available.

Practice roll: 78 + 41 = 119. Success

And more than that, there's you and the other Restorers who you handpicked for this assignment. You aren't able to give it as much attention as you would like, other duties keep you away, but the work isn't all that complex for your Focus. Sadly, you can't repair the biological circuitry, but you're able to entirely restore the electronic network, which synergises nicely with server side work by the Home Office teams. They also found some interesting anomalies in the network as it finally came back online at the end of the year.

(+1 action, actions unlocked)

Overwhelming Support
With everything going on in the Home Office this year, Adriana isn't able to dedicate much time to her project, although you do get a small glimpse of what she's working on. Not enough to have any real idea of what it is, but if it's as complex as it looks then it's a truly good thing that Mary is getting involved.

[Roll: 28 + 40 = 68. Progress: 68/???]

The Administration 51+ needed
It's not something you particularly enjoy, but the varied socials with your administration throughout the year serve another purpose. You didn't like Marcus' logic that much, but you had to accept its value. Thinking that they like you is one thing. Knowing is another. So you signed off on the proposal, went to every social and did your best, then came home and had a very long shower. You weren't cut out for this political bullshit.

[Roll: 67+ 42 = 109. Solid Success]

Perhaps fortunately, you have people for that. You get used to reading through the reports after the third month in office, and at least the message is mostly welcome. Your campaign of personal presence has paid considerable dividends with many, but there's some resistance to it forming. Although they're not making much progress against your raw charisma, the later reports in the year start making some worrying connections. Someone is pulling strings here. They're not having much luck, but they're doing it. Why would they do that?

(Administration Opinion revealed, actions unlocked)

Insight requires…Insight 66+ needed
Project Insight is one of the longest running of all of the Potential working groups, and under normal circumstances it's operated under only indirect governmental oversight. That was enough. The circumstances today are anything but normal. Hopefully they can be convinced of that.

[Roll: 63 + 42 = 105. Success]
Practice roll: 78 + 41 = 109. Success

Yup, they can. It feels wrong using an outright bribe to get access, but the Project members have always been looking for more processing power for the data their Trances reveal. A combination of Practice and normal computer systems beside a personal visit from your Security Minister opens many doors.

(Project Insight Practice Actions unlocked)

Bring it Together 51+ needed
Mary had warned you that bringing everyone in to work with her might be hard, but you'd pointed out the benefit pretty clearly. Actual government backing, state of the art lab facilities, far more chances for distributed network access, what more could they want?

[Roll: 71 + 47 = 118. Solid Success]

Not much, although they seem to have rather high culinary standards if their unified request for better kitchen staff is anything to go by. You find a way to bring in a team of experienced chefs, I mean it's not as if they can't cook for you either. Mary spends a lot of time settling in with the scientists, and you do your best to read the reports she sends back. It takes some time for everyone to integrate, but by the end of the year you have a superb set of minds backing up the best one you know of.

(Actions unlocked)

Soul Over Body 51+ needed
Marcus finds your interest into the way in which he expressed his Focus quite interesting, although he's open in being unsure about what you expect to gain from your investigation. It took him years to do it, and he's strangely certain that it's not something every Potential can do.

[Roll: 18 + 41 = 59. Success]

Nothing truly groundbreaking is discovered this year, but Vega tells you that working with Marcus has given her staff an enormous amount of data to work through. She's determinedly confident that something of use is in there, but it will take time to track it down.

(Action locked for one year)

Singing Heart

Kazuki really is an excellent teacher, but even he can only do so much with the limited time you have available. A lot of ground is covered, and it serves you in good stead through the year in performances and speeches both. You're still not quite back at the level you were at the Institute, but you're getting close.

[Roll: 46 + 24 = 70.]
(Progress: 70/90]

Opinion
Public: United
Spacers: Supportive
Congress: Supportive(?)
Administration: Mostly united, but there are holdouts. Someone is pulling strings.

You were so lucky. Average result of 72 on the dice, and most of your options were easy to blitz with that.

And your first (why do I not think it'll be the last) critical success. I thought what everyone said about biased quest dice was lies, damnit!

Okay, next turn, we need to investigate Congress as much as possible. Use that +5, and figure out who's pulling strings.

Also, we just added 5 Dice to our basic pool. That's very nice. Almost an increase of 50%!... Almost...

Also, I absolutely love we got a Critical on the Circles option. That's so very fitting...

Holy moley. Someone call Sage to get his dice back.
Well, this is a really good base to build off on. The extra dice are very welcome.

Okay Guys. Which one of the Potential Training options do we want to take? The 4 year 80% one or the 2 year 50% one?

Because that affects what I'm planning on next turn.

@Snowfire The Progress: 70/90 for Singing Heart, does that mean if we take that action again, and get anything over than a natural 1, we'll get a bonus/reward of some kind?

I do like the higher chance, but doing it faster is better in light of the incoming conflict.
Eh, I'm going with the 4 years. We still have to think about the aftermath.

Depends which give us greater gains. We've got a harvesting campaign to survive first, in 9 years. And then we can worry about the even bigger war winning would bring us.

All the options give us the same results, it's just a case of how many turns do we want to spend on it, and how much risk do we wish to undertake.

Then I'd prefer the faster of the two. With our and our advisors' stats, plus the Practice Dice, a flat 50% wouldn't be too risky. Though if it was 50% including all of that, the longer yet safer option would be the best so we may spread our dice around.

Okay. In that case, probably going to clear out the remaining 'learn what people we have/are dealing with' options in my plan for next turn, and take the 2 turn option. Because Potential Soldiers are going to be one of the bigger things we have during the war, and the sooner we integrate them, the better.

That said, it's all liable to change depending on what new actions are unlocked.

This is the case, yes. In addition to literally everything else going your way, I rolled low to establish the difficulty of this check.
...the Greater Success on The World Sings might have helped that a little >.>

I've started work on the actions for Turn 2, and should be able to finish them tomorrow before I head to work. If I'm lucky, I might finish them tonight. We'll see.

On a related note, is there anything in that you're missing in this quest that I could do to make it more appealing or engaging? Let me know and I'll try to work it in.
