mostly I was thinking it was used for field repair. the shiplords are clearly harvesting people for use in their slurry, that means they can't just pump it out of a drive core. So it would fit what we have seen for them to have dedicated ship tenders in their war fleets.

Which does not mean there will be enough left to defend from a second incursion with regular fleet support...
or that there will be enough left to even make it worth defending from the perspective of potential allies :O

Let us be pessimistic!

Go away Pessimist. This is Humanity Fuck Ya, not Humanity Fuck Off. :p
(please don't, I'm being silly)

But really, you're harshing my mellow man. Take a toke and enjoy the asskicking. :) So far we've broken the expectations.

So, when she said Purify, how'd she say it?
Was it like, shouted? Like: PURIFY!
Or was it sung, like: Purify~
this is extremely relevant and requires immediate attention

That is important. Was it like a song, or a pure word by itself? Sung might imply that music is the command code of the universe (which given string theory (yes I know, hush) might apply)

(edits)
Yes I know M(string) theory is still more an idea than a proven thing. I know this.

I just like the imagery of the universe being musical notes played on strings of energy... and that music could be used to break/change things.

I imagine it as the kind of calm intensity that you hear in breathless wonder. It's powerful, but not shouted -- the voice isn't strained, just resolute.

I'm not even lying. Probably

She sang out the pure word. Given the artefact you integrated into her Unison Platform, however, you probably shouldn't read too much into it.

Also, something that I thought might be interesting to point out.

The energy contained in your Word, you would find later, had for a second eclipsed that pouring from Sol itself.

Humanity has now exhibited the capabilities of a Kardashev Type 2 species.

Someone roll me a d100 please. I'll even tell you what it's for this time!

Amanda's recovery time. You'll get her back within the course of the battle either way, this just dictates which point.

And how much mechanics I have to do to bring us up to that point.

Please roll well...

Well, here goes.

EDIT: ...shit.
PoptartProdigy threw 1 100-faced dice. Reason: Recover Total: 3
3 3

I believe it. Until poptart's roll there, most of the rolls we're seen haven't been out of the ordinary, except for that high Practice roll, which was offset by a high Shiplord resistance roll.

The tough part starts now, though, because we're shown all our tricks, our IT guys are explicitly out of the fight, and all ten Collector ships remain, essentially undamaged.

This is gonna be Pyrrhic. At least we get a chance for it to happen, though. We may not be leaving, but neither are those Collectors.

Alright!

First off, I wouldn't have weighted this encounter so badly that a single bad roll could completely screw you. That's the height of terrible system balance, and you didn't critfail. Amanda is also pushing a metric fuckton of bonuses right now, she'll be fine.

Secondly, I need 4d100 from folk.
