Practice seems enough like Light Magic, or whatever, that I doubt it's entirely Eldritch. (Keyword: entirely?)
I'm also going to note that the Shiplords don't seem to have a history with Practice:

The intro also doesn't indicate that they have more than one galaxy:
Our Insight crit (the bad one) was detected by the SL. The fact that we study Practice-created effects to reverse-engineer them means Practice results can also be achieved by 'conventional' means - Practice doesn't work outside physics/reality, it seems to use principles you don't easily understand with physics.
And the SL being the lesser of two(many) Evils would explain why Uninvolved don't stop them.

The intro also doesn't indicate that they have more than one galaxy:
Its an exageration of the current circumstances.
The point being they might already have war fleet within 5 years travel of us with a star killer already being sent here just in case.
They already have reinforced the tribute fleet and sent a repair and fleet support craft along with the already reinforced tribute fleet. They did not send one the first time.
This is not standard operating protocol for collecting your typical tribute. If this fleet is not enough to put us in our place, we might have a war fleet next.
Sadly our best bet might be siding with the shiplords enemy. And doing so quickly.

What would the shiplords response be to simply leaving the galaxy?

My enemy's enemy is my enemy's enemy. Nothing more. Nothing less. If by their enemy, you mean the other tributaries, I agree. If you mean whatever eldritch horror they are defending against, that probably isn't wise.

I mean by all of the tributes and if the eldritch horror is behind practice... Well just take advantage of said gifts. Nothing more.
Unless what they are fighting isn't an eldritch horror and more along the lines of the xelee, try to get them more involved against the shiplords.
Afterall you do not need to be evil or even beyond morals to help out lesser races. And a xelee-lite race might be enough to get the shiplords to do what they are doing.
If they are fighting thier creators, all the more reason to side with thier creators. They might be rebellious biotech machines, who bit off more than they could chew when they started rebelling.

Quote (more or less): "The void is dangerous. There are things out there."
Seems like discovering benevolence by chance will require a confirmed crit.

Well. Mechanics are done at last.

This was a much more interesting round than I'd expected it to be before I started rolling the fiddly bits.
For those who may read (or write) 'Til My Last Breath: Tactics 13. That is all.

I'm hoping to write up the narrative tomorrow, with a few new perspectives thrown in so you can appreciate the massive space battle currently taking place. One of my minor annoyances with the last update was that it missed out on the glorious magnificence of space combat where all the weapons involved radiate at least partially in the visible light spectrum. The update may not end up being done until Monday, but I have a plan for it written and I think I know where everything's going to be slotting into place. This is an unusually well-planned starting point, which is good.

But now? Now it is time for sleep
Why the hell am I awake at 2am again?

So basically some good, some nothing special and then... wait what??? HOOOOOOOLLLLLLLYYYYY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTT!?!?!?!?!?

That accurate enough?

Oh god... I was wondering that Tactics 13 was. That... that is glorious and appropriate given the QM just summoned the QM from there beforehand. :p
Oh lord, he's conferring with him to try and figure out how to salvage this for the story, isn't he?

What did we do, lobotomize the enemy ships with our.... oh lord, that's what happened isn't it? We hacked their systems to the point that they work for us. Or something like that.

Tactics 13 is referring the this. I have a feeling that something went so very well that we made the QM cry (or something like that).

Tears of joy, my friend. Tears of joy. I've been waiting to show this off ever since you rolled a Trance for the Presidential Address in turn 10. Yeah, that was the result I hid from you guys.

So you know, I actually won't get my plans nuked by this. I had some time to prepare :p

Wellll.....

Practice Roll Hidden. Will activate on Tribute Fleet arrival.

You felt something in that moment as you finish the broadcast and let the world flood back in, an echo through the connections you've only just started to feel. The roar of the crowd before you drowns it out, but you find yourself coming back to it in the days that follow. Trying to find what it was, that feeling of reflected purpose and uncoiling power, and where it came from.

In the end, you're left only more questions, and a strange bubble of hope that comes from neither yourself nor Sidra.

(Population and military energised, 'Miracle of Victory' modifier applied to all combat rolls, ???)

It might be the other way around...

Did humanity birth some eldritch being of hope?
