The Otherworlder's Skill Grinder (Original)

Chapter 20: Super Advanced Computer
Hayami can't help but feel uneasy. She glances at their only non-powered club member who seems overly qualified for their club remaking and turning the coding for their game more efficient. Her fingers hovering around the keyboard like a robot as she types at speed impossible for the human eye to follow.

She can't help but recall what happened on the school faculty awhile ago. She don't know what actually happened, but it seems like the school itself suddenly become incredibly interested at Yumeko. She always thought Yumeko seems incredibly talented at everything, but it hasn't sink in that well to her until another club actually decided to try and snatch her from their club, and their club supervisor seemingly becoming supportive of that notion.

If even the Track and Field Club, one of the heavily supported clubs in this school, is trying their hardest that they even involved the student council president just to recruit her, then it meant Yumeko is just that skilled.

And that makes her feel uneasy. Because she felt like she has been holding her back. Not just that, she felt like she is being selfish for wanting Yumeko to stay at her club instead of letting her do something more productive, like actually representing the school and becoming the face of it. She thinks Yumeko is capable of the school itself is focused on her now.

"What do you think, Saki?"

She has become so disturbed by the thought, that she asked for Saki to use her powers so they can talk through their minds.

Saki is acting as if she is listening to music in her phone, or maybe she is actually doing that without acting as she heard her. She glances at Yumeko for a moment before shrugging her shoulders.

"If it's me, you should just ignore it. Yume-chan already said she wanted to stay, so there is no problem with that, right?"

"But is it alright? The student council president bowed her head just so she can reconsider her decision! I think that's a big deal!"

"That sounds rad as hell!"

"It's not funny Saki, I'm serious!"

She can't help but direct a frown on Saki's way, though she can see that the girl doesn't seem to think she did something wrong.

"Okay fine. Though I really think you shouldn't mind it."

"Maybe...."

Hayami is still unsure whether she should try and hog Yumeko for their club, or actually let her go so she can do something important than just rotting in their club. The words of those teachers still rings within her mind. Making her feel like she is holding back Yumeko and causing trouble to the school.

Her club isn't that special. It's even known as a garbage club because it barely manages to contribute to the school itself. Unlike the Track and Field Club which already received first place on their prefectural competition.

Honomi glances at them, and Saki just shook her head before she returns to listening to her music.

Today is Saturday, and what's so important for this day?

Actually, it's not really important. It's just a normal day in a weekend.

Though for me it is special because I just finished making all the peripherals for my computer set. Now that I have a flat screen monitor and those mechanical RGB sets that I recall having in my past life, I felt it was time to showcase them to my friends.

I felt the way I built them is pretty fast, but I took a lot of shortcuts thanks to my knowledge. I think it is still crude though, because if I have a larger space, I can create a lot more automated machines to create a computer set at incredible speeds.

I got incredibly excited for this that I forgot to spare some time for playing MOBA last night...

But nevermind about that. I called everyone to gather to my home, telling them that we can use our computer for programming our game. They seem surprised about that. They texted me that they will come soon.

While I was waiting, I decided to make a feast. I remembered that there is barely anything in my fridge and pantry anymore, so I'll have to stock up again. Good thing there is only delivery services for it.

I only need to go to Online Market, a very simple application that every Izanese seems to have, and use it buy whatever I want. The delivery won't take a long time, at least less than an hour before they arrived at my house after I ordered a delivery.

So I quickly go to that app, feeling familiar with it as there is something similar in my past world. There are sales on green vegetables today, so I decided to stock up a lot of that while also making sure to buy all the necessary things like meat, eggs, fishes, and other condiments for cooking.

After awhile my order arrives. It's only less than 20 minutes since I ordered for it. They really are quick to deliver!

After letting them in and letting them help me put the boxes of ingredients on both my pantry and refrigerator, I signed the paper and then thanked them for coming earlier to my house before they left.

The cost is pretty steep. I paid a total of 12,000 Yen there, though all of this will last a whole month, so whatever.

Now then, time to get to cooking something!~

The four girls meets up on the entrance to the school, before they walked together until they arrived at the gates of their member's house. The house is a two story building that seems to have a large backyard in it, though no garage or anything else in it. There is an empty shack to the side, which is not that interesting.

As they rang the door bell, the door opens and their member Yumeko let them in.

The four are still curious about the sudden invitation. Yumeko only told them to continue their game development on her home, and as they have nothing else to do on this weekend so they accepted.

They don't know why. Yumeko seems excited as she led them within her house. As they got to the living room though, the first thing they noticed is that the room seems to have been repaired. The second is the computer on the side. An obviously brand new computer.

"Wow!? What is this!?" Saki quickly moves to the unknown computer that seems to have a different design than the ones she was used to.

"My new computer." Yumeko simply explained with a shrug, though there is a grin in her face.

Honomi is also very interested. Her eyes becoming stuck with the computer case and then on the monitor.

"What model is it? The SMD FX one? Or maybe this is the Wisdom Core i7!?"

Hayami always knows that Honomi is a bit of a computer geek. She knows a lot about computers than them, and she seems incredibly hooked at them. Second to her is Saki, who also has some trivial knowledge about it.

"No. It's a new model that my parents gifted to me." She simply answered, before seemingly changing topics. "By the way, I made some tuna and ham sandwiches. Why don't you eat while you're testing my computer?"

And so they did. Taking a sit on the sofa, while Saki busied herself looking at the computer.

"Woah!? Look at this! It has two drives with both having 512 GB of storage! How cool is that!" Saki exclaimed, and the others quickly move to look at it.

"You are right! As for it's model.... why is it only numbers!?" Honomi exclaimed in confusion.

"Oh that, I heard from my Dad that it was a prototype from the states. The company is unknown, and it was a test product that they wanted my family to test."

"Wow, I wonder what kind of company is it? Wisdom is the largest semiconductor company I know of! Is there an emerging company trying to compete against the big names of computer industry?" Honomi rattled, looking incredibly interested at the computer.

"Are you sure you're fine with us using your computer to create our game?" Hayami asked in worry. That feeling of guilt within her heart becoming stronger.

"Of course." Yumeko said before staring directly at her. "I am very happy staying with the club. I can do something I've always dreamed of doing, and I think I am getting closer to that dream I wanted to achieve!" Yumeko stated. "Also, it's good experience." She heard her mutter, and Hayami thinks she meant that she wanted to accrue more experience for her future dream.

"I see.... you really are committed to this, huh..."

"Of course! Why wouldn't I? I don't want to regret living my life now!"

Again, Hayami felt like she is missing some context there. She can only tilt her head, furrowing her brows in confusion.

"Hey Yume-chan, can I download some music here?"

"I want to transfer my art!" Shiro surprisingly talked longer as she stared intently on the screen. "I don't have any storage left..." She added.

"This is the most advanced computer I've seen. I can't even find it on the communities I joined that has the latest news for computers!" Honomi said to the side, her eyes alternating on the screen of her phone and then on the computer case itself. "Yumeko-chan, can I take a picture of it?"

"Uh.... well, yeah. You can do that." Yumeko seems to have thought about that for a moment, but she gave her confirmation after a short while.

"Is that fine? I would try and ask about it on the communities I joined!"

"Yes, it's fine."

As they talked to each other, Hayami can only smile. The doubt within her mind slowly vanishing as Yumeko's words echoes in her mind.

'That's right. I should stop thinking whether I am holding her back or not. I would be insulting her if I kept trying to find reasons why she should leave our club.' Hayami's lips quirks into a relieved smile. 'She seems very happy about this. I think she will stay like that if she is in our club, instead of the others.' She thought, her heart finally calming down and those words from the teachers yesterday vanishing.

'Thank you for joining our club, Shinozaki Yumeko.' She thought.

"Is that all?"

"Yes, Principal."

A man with a graying hair swept all to the back, and with a neat appearance nodded to the words of the female secretary besides him. His eyes then looks at the screen of his laptop, reading the files he got about a student named Shinozaki Yumeko, and a club known as the Game Development Club.

"This club... Isn't this the club that failed to show any results since it's foundation?"

"Yes, Principal."

"Hmm.... this can't do." He shakes his head, as his eyes looks at Yumeko's files.

Based on her records on this school, it seems like she somehow changed into a completely different person since the second week of the current semester. Unlike when she seems like the typical antisocial person who seems to be uninterested with anything, and didn't show any remarkable talents since her elementary years, she somehow became a super genius who can score perfect on any quiz that the teacher gave to their class.

She might have gotten an epiphany, as she has become extremely serious at her studies. She is still mostly quiet, and doesn't actively participate on the class, but when it comes to academics, she seems to rival the current student council president.

Then they learned that she breaks her own record. Not just that, but even their fastest who only managed to set a record of 12.5 seconds on their 100m run. The same one who gave them the win on the prefectural tournament between middle schools.

It's a huge gap that she breaks. Her normal speed when she was in elementary is 21+ seconds. Though now she just casually did an 11 seconds run. That was too much. It's already at the level of an international athlete, and she is still 12!

His eyes lit up after he contemplates about this for awhile.

"She rejected even the little lady of Juouin, right?" With his assistant's nod, he continues. "Then this club doesn't have any achievements... we can use that." His eyes turned a bit sinister as he says that.

His focus is clear. He wanted to put the girl on the Track and Field Club, and then nurture her to become an Olympic athlete that will represent Iza. It will be good publicity for his school if that happens. The school that produced the very first Izanese Olympic athlete that can run in tandem with the elites of the world. He wanted his school to achieve that title.

'You will be joining that club, whether you like it or not!' He thought, a small grin occuring on his lips.

Fun fact, this chapter is supposed to be very long, but I deleted a major part of it. The deleted part is her casually revealing that she is the one who created the computer, and the reveal that she has a mini factory on her storage room.

I felt like that was very sudden, and will contradict her character even if she acts like a ditz. She already lied to them about the hole tried to fix on her living room. Trying to just reveal that she is the creator of the computer and the mini factory will invalidate her lie on that time. So I take the long section I wrote on this chapter off.

I hope you have fun with this chapter!~

Behold, the first victim

Edit: to pad out my comment, I love how the MC has a game system, and actually uses it for fun. It's a game, after all. Not like those other gamer MCs who keep optimizing themselves into an auto cheat bot grinding up those numbers using loopholes and bugs and being continuously online.

Very excited for the inevitable joke by another member along the lines of.

"WOW Yumeko, XXXX that you did was amazing! It must be like your superpower or something"

"Ack! What? No I don't have superpowers how could you think that? What? No!"

[You learned the skill "poker face"]

Okay but she already learnt that one. It's going to be only a level up~

And oh no. That poor computer is going to break mind of anyone looking at it online. People are definitely going to ask something like "what secret government project was this stolen from".

... Also you can't really see the storage of an HDD or SSD without it being actually put on a label. Or in case of SSD you /might/ be able to see it either silkscreened on the PCB, or laser etched on the chip ceramic packaging. Oh yeah, btw, the "black rectangular chip" you can see in electronics is actually a "package" - a ceramic casing holding the actual silicon-and-metal chip inside, with some thin wires (or other stuff). Well, that's the basic case, at least. There's variations on how it is done internally, but this is the usual.

Also, "memory" within tech circles usually refers to RAM, while the stuff you use to store files is "storage" ^^

Oh dear, though... The school drama is starting to boil more...

"Yumeko-chan, can I take a picture of it?"

"Uh.... well, yeah. You can do that."
Yumeko: 'Refusing would make things awkward. Besides, it's just something I built by myself. Surely it's not such a big deal?'
*Some time later...*
The World: "WTF is even this."

'You will be joining that club, whether you like it or not!'
Luckily for him, Yumeko doesn't seem willing* to escalate the situation (that would take effort and time away from the things she likes). Even if they close the GDC, they can't actually stop the club members from meeting anywhere else; or perhaps masquerading as a Study Club...

*OTOH she might accidentally escalate the situation, nevertheless.

Principal: "But you are so good at athletics! You must join one of the main clubs."
Yumeko: "Well, in that case I choose... The Science Club!"
Principal:

Also you can't really see the storage of an HDD or SSD without it being actually put on a label.
I got used to the computer where if I go to the My Computer, I can see the total storage and remaining storage for an HDD, so I just based it at that xD
Also, "memory" within tech circles usually refers to RAM, while the stuff you use to store files is "storage" ^^
That I don't know. I got used to calling storage as memory, regardless of what device I am using. I should start calling it storage then xD

Also, so this is really informative. Thanks.

By the way, the next chapter includes an alternate version of this site, because Honomi is asking about the computer she took a picture at Yumeko's house.

You can make your replies here if you want to humor me, and I will add it in the story. Surprisingly, I don't know how to write a convincing forum reply. Though I will try to add some in here.

Below is what Honomi is going to ask...

What the hell am I looking at? Is this a homemade computer? No way those parts are standard. What are the specs?
(my attempt at making a reply)

when i was at school, an ex student had recently became an olympic athlete and the school wanted to claim her success as thiers too...

they actually wanted her to quit her sport when she was at school for one the school did instead.

Chapter 21: Mystery of the Computer
Sunday is when the city wide eating contest will start. I have already applied as a participant there, and as it was scheduled on 10 in the morning, I still have a lot of time when I woke up. I usually woke up at five in the morning.

That's why I decided to finish my routine. Though first, I have to tell this to my friends. I look at my phone, and then operated it until I got into our group chat on CURVE.

Hello.
I woke up early, so I will be staying for a bit in my house and checking out my computer.
I'll also see and try to check the progress of the game, and tell you anything if I add anything.
That's all!
See you later on the Jiryuu Plaza!~

After that, I close the tab and then go to my computer to open it. I really feel satisfied with that low hum that it makes as I open it. It doesn't make that annoying beeping sound that my old computer does when I am opening it.

Anyway, first I have to write five more chapters for my webnovel. The "Summoned Hero" webnovel is getting incredibly popular as of late. There are many who are very satisfied with the pace I uploaded the chapters.

Not all will be satisfied of course. There are still those who demanded the MC to become ruthless or aggressive because they think is a wuss. Others doesn't like the general direction of where I want the story to go, and demanding that the women surrounding him just throws themselves at him because it somehow makes sense. Then there are those very few critics who just wanted to outright deny my story and say that it's unrealistic, despite the genre being literally called fantasy!

I ignored those and continue where I want the story to go. I can't really please everyone. My predicted satisfaction rate for my story is 95% at maximum. My general target audience are young adults. It's literally written as a Seinen genres along with Fantasy, because there is still no Isekai genre in this world. Young boys who always comments some edgy stuff or horny stuff, and self-proclaimed "Professional Readers" who always critique my story about using childish or easy to use words are ignored. I don't have any time for that.

I have a lot of chapters stored within my new computer. I only uploaded the five completed chapters from some days ago, and then wrote another ten chapters and then storing it on the Webnovel folder I made.

After that, I started using my art tool to draw another character from my webnovel. This time it will be the dark lord himself. As it is the dark lord, he must be very imposing, and has this dark sinister aura around him. As I'm making him look generic enough, I tried using X Death from Final Fantasy as a template. X Death looks cool, and his appearance is cliche enough for me so I decided to use him as a template.

Now that looks very imposing enough. I will be posting that on Piciv.

After that is the commissioned work. I'm still working on it one by one on a daily basis. I still have a lot of time, though Eijicon gave me a notice, asking for a draft of my work to be delivered on the designated account they told me. It seems like they thought I'm still creating the draft and not the finished product for the commissioned art they are asking for me, so they are asking for it so they can guide me about things they wanted to change or just ask for some additional details they want.

That's why, after I am done drawing a completed art for one of their requested character, next I draw all of the ten characters in draft form. It is really easy as I don't need to draw a background or color them. It's just the outline of the character themselves, and the general idea of how they will look like.

It took me an hour to finish all ten drafts for each characters, them I send them as attachments to the account they told me. After that, I look at the stylized icon of Gehenna in my desktop screen before hovering my cursor there and then double clicking it.

Now that I am done with all of that, I have time to play a game. I think I only need to win once to level up?

"Are these truly the rough draft? Why does these look like completed sketches!?"

Suguru Kazu, their Lead Character Designer exclaimed as he looks at the draft they got from Hitoko. He can understand. The uploaded draft might as well be the complete art for a character concept. The artist draws not just draw a single body, but multiple angles of them on both the naked (thankfully just an outline) sketch of them, and the fully clothed version of them.

Hitoko even seems to make sketch of their dress and accessories on literally every angle, just to emphasize how they will actually look like when drawn in different angles. The accessories are even well detailed despite not having shadings or colors.

"Are you serious? Are you telling me you managed to afford the service of this professional for just a measly 500 Yen?" The Lead Character Designer said as he looks at Eiji Kazuha incredulously.

Eiji Kazuha, the Lead Developer nodded to him calmly. "Yes. I managed to do that."

"What did the family say?"

"They are glad that their daughter's talent is being recognized, and are fine with the arrangement. I think they thought their daughter's art wasn't that special, as they thought paying five hundred yen each is extremely generous for her."

".... Won't we be in trouble if they discover that we are practically robbing them?"

"Come on. They've already given their signature on the online document. You shouldn't think about it too much!"

The Lead Designer is still dubious, but he nodded at him before looking at the papers and reviewing it once more.

Kazuha knows that he is unsatisfied with the way he handle things. Normal commission prices for digital arts are very expensive as they priced it by how much pixels they are using to draw the commissioned art, and how much time they spent drawing it. Even on fixed prices decided by a company must still go on at least 5,000 ~ 12,000 Yen per piece just to satisfy an artist, because doing it lower than that will just cause them to leave.

Their company can't really afford to spend a lot right now. So Hitoko's existence is a godsend for him. Even if this will sound scummy, he wanted to use anything just so their project becomes a success. They have to make results now or they will have to close the company soon.

"Even if I want to look for anything, that Hitoko already surpassed my expectations. I also don't feel like demanding anymore, as we have been underpaying her!" The Lead Character Designer stated as he glared at him. "If this game became a success, I would personally pay her out of my own pocket!" He said.

Kazuha winces, but didn't say anything. He can understand. He really can't help it as the company is in the red since their latest failure. They are trying their best with this new game, wanting to bet it all and hope that this one will be a success.

Because if it didn't, they have to start looking for another job.

Honomi woke up at the notification ping on her phone. Taking it from below her pillows, she looks at it as she tries to process what is happening. Before seeing the group chat for their club, their president telling them that they will be going to Jiryuu Plaza soon.

Her eyes widened, before she immediately stood up. 'Oh no, I don't have enough time to take care of my appearance!' She thought, grumbling at the thought of having a little time to enjoy herself in her bath.

Good thing she already chosen what she would wear it for this day last night after she got back home, though she really likes her bath and she wanted to always looks presentable outside so she always took a lot of time in her room doing her makeup.

She decided to go out lightly. It won't really change, even if she is a bit conscious of her appearance.

Her family already knows that she is going to watch the eating contest on the Fifth Nether District, so she only said to them that she will be going now as she passes them by, busily starting their day with coffee.

As she left the house, she managed to reach the bus at the bus stop before it leaves. She looks at the bird that is now perching on the window besides her before nodding to it.

"Thank you for telling me. I wouldn't have rushed if you didn't tell me about this bus!~" She whispered.

"You're welcome~"

After the bird replied with a language that she can only understand, it flies away.

Even if she is not that interested at having pets, she prefers having birds rather than dogs or cats, so she mostly talks to birds with her newfound power. They can also understand her, and they seem to have a really favorable impression of her. So she can always ask for their help even if she saw them for the first time.

"Oh right, I have to look and see if they replied to my post last night." She quickly navigated the site on her phone until she got to the site.

Since last night, nobody from the local forums has managed to answer her about the computer that Yumeko has. So she tries reaching out for foreign sites. Two of those foreign forums is called Sufficientspeed and Spacecombat. Both forums seems to have some users or members who are knowledgeable about computers, so she tries asking there.

She looks at her post on Sufficientspeed first, hoping that they can give her some clue.

She only wrote what Yumeko told her of it's specs, even though she herself is feeling dubious. If not for actually using the computer, she would have politely told Yumeko that it's impossible for something like that to exist. Just hearing that there are fourteen cores in that CPU is making her crazy.

"So they also don't know anything... I still have to reply to them..."

She said, quickly replying to the others about the company name being unknown, that it was from her friend, and it seems like it came from the states. She is only using Woogle Translate so she doesn't know if she conveys her meaning right.

Next is the other forum....

I would believe you if you say it came from the future.

Look at that design! It looks so simple but cool with it's black casing!

Her eyes lits up at Unilateral's comment. "Soyuz..."

There are a lot of mysteries about Ruthenia. Formerly known as the Soyuz Socialist Republic with a large amount of countries on their helm, now they are just Ruthenia.

Most of the urban myths about them always involves mystical technology or something, though most of it has been debunked by a lot of people on the internet, and real scientists of today's age.

Still, there are some proofs that they have advanced technology before they transitioned into becoming Ruthenia. Though Ruthenia is a bit strict on those things, stating them as important assets of their country and cannot be surrendered to the other countries.

That's what she read on some wikis on the internet, and she can't really verify it personally so she will just trust what she reads until proven otherwise.

"So is it a Ruthenian country then? But Yumeko-chan said it came from the states?" She wonders to herself, feeling curious about it.

She really want to know what kind of company created that kind of computer. She wanted to know whether it can be imported to Iza and sell it or if it will stay on the states.

"Ah... I want to have that kind of computer too...." Honomi sighs sadly, thinking that it might have been impossible.

[You acquired 760 EXP]
[You leveled up!]

After I am done playing the game, I shut down the computer and then made sure that the door is locked before I left the house.

It is getting a bit harder to level up now, though I actually don't mind. I currently have a lot of AP, and I'm not in any pressure to use it. My abilities will be upgraded if I just grind on it. So I wanted to store it and try to reach a thousand so it will be possible to buy something like Telekinesis or Common Magic.

For now, I should focus on getting to that tournament. I still have a lot of time. It will only take thirty minutes on bus to get there, so I can take a walk leisurely.

I wonder what kind of food I will be eating on that competition? Will my eating skill level up in there? I can't wait!~

I would have continue, but I decided to cut it off here for now and continue the eating contest on the next chapter.

Thank you for also humoring me!~

I have a lot of chapters stored within my new computer. I only uploaded the five completed chapters from some days ago, and then wrote another ten chapters and then storing it on the Webnovel folder I made.
Backups. Your computer may be wonderful, but that won't help if it's struck by lightning, stolen by Microsoft(equivalent) or spontaneously develops sentience and refuses to store any fiction that wasn't written more than 200 years ago.

I wonder what kind of food I will be eating on that competition? Will my eating skill level up in there? I can't wait!~
Yumeko: "Just having some fun and relaxing with my friends! Besides, if I'm taking part in the competition then people will already be expecting me to eat a lot. Surely no one will suspect anything!"
*Meanwhile...*
That General from Chapter 10: "Hmm, my paranormal-bullshit senses are tingling again. It's been several days now. Something big is coming."

Common Magic over TK, easy choice.

Also I know she's supposed to be ditzy but how long until she realizes that A: she's undercharging for her art or should add bonuses if it's successful?
And B: that whatever AU equivalents of Paypal (FriendFee), Patreon (Benefactor/Budgetfactor), Ko-Fi (Lat-te) probably exist for extra cash to link on her stories and art?
Currently everything she's doing requires active focus, while exceptions like Breathing are few between.

Don't get me wrong, this is great and I like well done stories where the character doesn't minmax or optimize the fuck out of their system, just curious what's the estimation of her learning curve?

Actually, she knows she is being underpaid by the commissions and doesn't care, because what she wanted is the commission itself and not the money. She just wanted to promote her art while also grinding her Digital Arts to perfection because her mind is more focused on that than monetary gains.

Actually, Patreon already existed and has been stated on this story. It is called Customs and she made her account there, so it became even possible for the child of the Lead Developer of Eijicon to commission work for her.

The equivalent of Paypal exists, though I haven't thought what to call it yet, so I will have to borrow that term. FriendFee sounds incredibly good. As for the Ko-fi equivalent, it doesn't exist yet in this world.

"I want to get paid in experience and exposure. In fact, I would prefer that over actual money."
-Yumeko, probably.

It's quite nice, but I think it would be better if the main character were a girl who awakened memories of a past life or something like that. It would explain the childish behavior and remove the morbid body-snatching vibes.

As for building a computer from scratch with all the peripherals - it's unrealistic. Each piece represents a separate technological chain, not to mention the architecture compatibility, microcode, drivers, etc. It seems like you have some understanding of the complexity of computers? Well, multiply that by about a million times, and you'll get something close to reality. :)

Anyway - watched.

Chapter 22: Yomi City's Eating Competition Event
Jiryuu Plaza. Based on Yumeko's original memories, it is the most popular tourist spot of this city due to the aesthetic scenery of this plaza, and getting here just further that belief from everyone. It's really beautiful.

The large double layered fountain in the middle of the plaza, along with the four monumental statues of some historical figures on the corners of this plaza. The stairs on all four sides of the plaza making it look like a half finished pyramid of some sorts, and below the stairs of plaza surrounding it are street food stalls selling whatever they are selling to the people.

Beyond the side of the roads facing the plaza on all sides are tall buildings that seems to be strategically placed around it, not to block the sunlight, but to further enhanced the scenery by giving it that vibe of being in the middle of an urban area. Instead of making it claustrophobic, it somehow turned great due to the vastness of the plaza that can host approximately 20,000 people based on my estimates.

It seems like occasionally the mayor of this city likes using this plaza to hold events and promote something from his city. This eating contest is also one of the events that the mayor is holding for promoting the popular food around this city.

The middle of the plaza, surrounding the fountain seems to have been repurposed so instead of a leisure spot it nows has tables with a lot of food in it. On the stairs or besides the statues around the plaza there are many people waiting. I also noticed some people with cameras, or obviously professionally suited people with mics. Indicating they might be reporters or something.

When I got there, I walked to the line where we are given a badge that we have to wear to indicate that we are participants. To verify that you are the participant that applied on their online entry, you just have to tell your name on the man behind the impromptu counter. It seems like they have all the list of participants listed there and they will check your name out after you confirmed your name and age.

Now we are being led to the tables arrayed around the large fountain. There are at least five hundred participants who are currently here. I can see that some of the tables are being taken out as the time for the competition is getting close. It seems like some of the participants didn't make it.

"Yumeko-chan! Good luck!~" I look up and saw Hayami and the others in front of the gathered crowd on the distance, waving at me.

I waved back at them with a smile, before looking at the guy in front of us. Once again I'm baffled at the appearances of the people of this world as I saw that even the mayor is good looking. Despite of his failing hairline, he is still quite a looker that everyone in my past life can still confidently say he is handsome.

That mayor made some long speech through his mic. The large speakers installed on the statues echoing his long speech. If I have to summarize his long speech that seems to stretch on half an hour, he was saying that he was grateful for the people attending this event, saying his reasons why he made the event, promoting the shops that sponsored this event so this will be possible, his achievements on the city somehow, his plans for the prosperity of the city or so he claimed, and some other mundane stuff.

I don't know how it came from thanking the sponsors that they seem to be promoting to the citizens into his own achievements and plans for the city, but as expected of a politician. It will always end with them praising themselves with their long boring speeches.

I'm not dissing of course, but it is boring. It's not even the topic of this event.

"Once again, thank you for watching the event and let us start the competition now!"

His words made a sparked to all of the bored audiences as I heard them finally cheering after he said that. Then he handed the mic to some guy who I think might be the one they hired as the announcer for this event.

I tuned out what he is saying as I opted to focus on the meal in front of me. I can hear him announcing the start of the competition, and after that he explained the first round of this game.

Within thirty minutes, it seems like we have to finish this mountain of food on the table in front of us. Those who manages to do so will get to the next round. After that will be a rest. The first round seems to be a variety of sushi in a large plate, bundled up like a pyramid. We can use everything on the table to help us finish eating it all on the allotted time like drinking water, or using any of the condiments here to help us eat it a lot easier.

I glance at the others and saw them beginning. I saw some who have a bulkier body mass than the others, but they still doesn't look bloated enough to call them very unhealthy. Though people seems to already define them as fat, if what I am hearing around me is right. Despite their body mass, they also still look decent in my eyes. Likely because of my past life's sensibilities.

Anyway, these people who are supposed to be fat on this world's standards started shoving those sushis on their mouth. They didn't even try dipping them in soy sauce. They just literally grab as much as they can in their hands and shove it all on their mouth like slobs.

Even if they look decent with their body mass, that act makes me shiver for a bit.

There are others who are also trying to pace their eating, though it is still fast.

As for me. I eat normally. There is no need to try and shove as much as I can in my mouth. My Eating skill will carry me on with this. All I have to do is just leisurely eat these sushi, dip them in whatever condiments or other additives presented on the side of this dish, and enjoy myself.

This is a lot to take in though, and I was quickly feeling a bit full as I take my twentieth sushi.

[You learned "Overeating"]

Ah.... so overeating is also a skill? Then what the heck is Eating ability for, then?

I can't understand my powers sometimes...

Though, it might be thanks to my Overeating ability, but I feel like I can eat some more. I'll have to go over the limit then and eat while grinding this skill.

Time to do it then!

Hayami can't believe what she is seeing. They know that Yumeko is a fast eater, but not to the extent that she is instantly gobbling the food while still maintaining proper dining manners.

Despite not looking like she was in a hurry, Yumeko's hand gripping the chopstick is incredibly fast. It's so comically quick that it can only be seen as a blur as she quickly put them in her mouth. They don't even know just how she is quickly doing that, and even having the time to dip her sushi in sauce without any delay on her movements.

She is like a seamless machine, moving to eat and savor the taste in a short amount of time. She is unlike the other participants who seems close to hurling the rice dish they have been shoving on their mouth like slobs. Even those heavyweight people besides her are panting, or taking a break as they sit on the provided chair for them, and drinking water.

"Thanks for the food!~" Yumeko somehow looks even more brighter as she finishes eating all of the sushis on the plate five minutes since the competition started.

One of the staffs who are standing near them looks at her as she said that. Before blinking their eyes as they saw the lack of sushi on her plate. They look at the announcer, before going to them and whispering something.

After awhile, all the crowd goes to the side where they can see Yumeko now sitting on the table and waiting. The audience can simply watch, while those reporters seems to have the permission to get closer to the contestants to talk to them.

"Wow... I didn't thought that was possible...." Saki muttered besides her as they stare at Yumeko who is now being interviewed by the reporters.

"But.... well, she didn't have any powers, right?" Honomi muttered to the side.

"What kind of powers is eating a lot of food?" Saki chuckles for a moment at Honomi before returning her gaze back at Yumeko.

"It's also impossible. We can't feel a connection to her." Hayami stated.

They are sure of that. The four of them feel somewhat connected, like there is a string connecting them together. It doesn't have that kind of feeling when they look at Yumeko. She is just normal. Incredibly talented, but still a normal person.

"So.... she is just that good at eating?"

"That's possible." Shiro said, seemingly stopping something she has been doing on her carried laptop. "There are records for it." Then she pointed the laptop to them, leading them to an article about large eaters in this world.

"Oh...." Honomi shakes her head. "Then maybe people like Yumeko-chan just exists somewhere..." She said, now feeling convinced.

"Right. Plus you must look at that." Shiro pointed to another person.

That person is another participant. A girl that seems to be the same age as them it seems. She also looks incredibly happy as she ate all the sushi and then plopped onto her seat after she ate all of the contents on her plate. She is the second person who managed to finished the eating contest within seven minutes.

The four stares at that before Saki scratches the back of her head.

"Right... there are just people like that..."

Even as they say that, Hayami felt that something is wrong. Regardless if someone can eat near as fast as Yumeko, or there are people recorded in recent history who can feats that she can do, she is displaying a lot of talents that she is incredibly competent at.

Programming, writing, drawing, eating, sprinting, and a lot more that they might not know yet. Hayami felt like something doesn't add up there, though she can't really pinpoint what it is. If Yumeko has powers, there should be some sort of connection with them, or maybe she should display some sort of supernatural phenomena.

"Right.... I'm overthinking it." Hayami concluded, and decided not to think much about it.

"And time's up! I'm sorry everyone, but those who haven't finished eating everything on the plate has been eliminated!"

The cacophony of whines, groans, disappointment, and indifference resounded on the losers while those who wins cheered. The audience are generally cheering or talking about those who has qualified.

Her golden eyes glances at the purple haired girl who managed to eat a lot faster than her. Which is surprising. She thought humans can't possibly beat her when it comes to eating.

"Great! I just came here to eat for free, but I didn't thought I'll meet someone interesting!" She exclaimed. A large grin forming on the green haired child.

While that is happening, the purple haired in question just tilted her head, before glancing at the grinning child with a confused expression. Not really knowing why she is feeling a slight hostile, yet friendly intent from that girl being directed at her.

Then purple haired girl shakes her head, before looking at something that only she can see. The numbers that occurs on her vision.

[You acquired 112,300 EXP]

Her eyes lit up in glee at the amount of prompts appearing within her mind.

I fell asleep while writing this, and when I woke up I forgot what I actually planned for this chapter. I can't really rely on my draft because what I only wrote on my draft is "Eating Competition" and "Friends must be there" and "new character introduction".

I should have written something more xD

Also, yes she just got a lot of EXP. A lot has been eliminated and only less than a hundred remains on that competition.

If you want to support me, you can go to my kofi account here.

Thank you for reading this!~♪
