Yohoho, you be on the Internet 'matey! It's a pirates life for us!

Yarr...
Thanks to their rarity, books are actually significantly more difficult to plunder than electronic media. It's usually easier to just shell out however many doubloons you need for a physical or Kindle copy.

Also, i dont pirate stuff i can buy for the simple reason that if i care enough to get it, then i care enough to give them money so they can keep making stuff i like.

My bad for being a thieving bastard I suppose:)
The only time piracy is right is when you own an actual copy of the DVD or book, but the DVD freezes up a few minutes before the end of the film, then say if you were watching Iron Man 2 in preparation for seeing Iron Man 3 then it's all right in my book. But that's the only exception, hell, I see those "Characters read Harry Potter rubbish" stories as Piracy in a way. As you can read the actual story for free, without paying for the books, which as an author royally pisses me off.

Valor does not equal Convection. Convection is the ability to persevere and follow through Valor simply allows a person to run into a firefight.

No doubt Hiver has Valor, what he doesn't have his convection to hold his course in the face of emotional and social obstacles.

People gets these things mixed up all the time, you're not an idiot as you're certainly not the first to not read and fail to comprehend.
Oh, for the love of...

Look, he has two red and one green mana versus one black and one white, and no blue. He has stated that mana messes with the users head. And you know what? I wouldn't have even told you that. I would simply have said that you'd find out later. Because that's the way stories generally work. Things happen, and you need to keep reading to find out why.

Your entire complaint seems to be that Winter isn't perfect. Well guess what? Real people aren't perfect. And the fact that Hiver's SIs tend to reflect that is part of what makes them better than the majority.

P.S: Convection has to do with heat transfer. It's conviction.

And you fail to realize there's multiple levels at work here. There's the game mechanic, there is the story, and there is the audience.

If you can't tell the distinction, then you're the one that needs education.
Weero said:
Except how mana alters minds has little to do with the game mechanics themself, it's MtG fluff. And if he can gain a blue mana land a bit north of where he is, why should Winter opt out of that just to go for a more difficult, "interesting" solution? It makes no sense in story. You're basically asking Hiver to make Winter carry the idiot ball.
This. There are no multiple levels here. The "game mechanic" that you keeping harping on about is the way the universe his SI is in works. Therefore, by definition, it has an effect on the story.

Meh, I just want to see where the story go's, Hivers SI is acting like an Idiot, we can all agree on that, but he could of been far worse, also, I think he should use Black Mana more, its not evil man, Its awesome.

This one for instance, he can do it now, and it make's his Varren even better.

EDIT: And this one stops people from getting hurt, And he can use it now!

If he used it when the bandits attacked then he wouldent of had to kill them.

If the problem with his character is based on the mana he has then argue about his actions with MANA AS THE FOCUS PEOPLE. Hiver has stated his character is behaving strangely due to Mana warping his brainpan, that also canonical for MtG so no one here can really argue that. What we can argue though is how the Mana he has and what he's been using has effected his decisions. In short; Taking into consideration the Mana Taps Hiver HAS and the Mana he has recently used (Primarily being red) why is he THINKING so god damn much about his problems? Shouldn't he be more impulsive thanks to red? Shouldn't he be more selfish to his own happyness thanks to black? shouldn't he want some fanatical woman to not kill innocent People thanks to white? And shouldn't he be more instinctive for him to END HER to protect his selfish desire to peacefully relax the way he wants thanks to Green?

The Mana Colors pretty much outright tell us his personality though rightfully warped by Mana somehow isn't warped in the right direction, considering the colors he has his thinking too much in combat to friggen HESITATE when he's got a solid opening and his first instict should be to kill her to save lives and keep the peace so Winter can relax.

Ya'll are arguing the wrong POINTS OF INTEREST!
Red is about emotions, as in all of them not just rage. In this case he wasn't angry at her so much as frustrated with the situation, he doesn't really emotionally want her dead. Before the fight he was sympathizing with her and saw her as a potential friend and companion. I imagine that she is a cute young girl helped as well. He didn't really want to fight her in the first place and the danger she represented is theoretical and logical not emotional.

Red isn't just rage kill even if that is what you see in the cards most often.

It's just making things really dark and impossible to see, it isent rocket science, he was able to make lightning and fire, Why not Darkness?

I just realized something, Hiver best never go to the power rangers universe or they will think he is a bad guy of the season with his ability to make his monsters grow D:

I sat with my back against the rock, looking out over the waves, my eyes glowing a soft blue as I channeled the mana of the large lake.

When I finally arrived at the lake I had two options.

One was to rush things, empty every reserve I had and demand more, pull it out with pure force. It was the quick and dirty way of getting another land and it damn near kills you or at least knocks you out for days.

Second option was to take your time. Simply spending time in the area, getting a very good feel for it. Trying to channel it, pulling on it again and again but without the pure demanding desperation.

This way could take between a week and a month in my experience.

Considering the first way would leave me defenseless as it would unsummon all the Varren I had at the time I would not have anything watching my back.

Second one was much slower and I 'was' on a time limit. Mary could fly and as such travel much faster than I could while walking. Hell, even uncomfortable travel on a Varren is slower than her wings of light.

She might even have reached somewhere like King's Landing by now, a quarter of a continent away.

Considering how much faster she is, taking a week or two to do this right without getting yourself killed would be worth it.

Pulling on Red mana are like a torrent of power. It is a vulcano, a wild fire, a earthquake. It is unstoppable, indomitable.

Green mana is unstoppable. It is nature. It is the sprawling forest and the raging herd of wilderbeast. It is Primal.

White mana is rigid to pull on, it is pure light, like crystal. It heals, it protects. It make you feel...safe.

Black mana is like Oil. It slithers, it sticks, it is thick, slow. Black mana make you feel two things with absolute certainty. You need more power. Everything Dies.

But Blue mana...Blue mana is clear. It is knowledge, manipulative and curiosity. Pulling on it feel like taking the first drink from a clear, ice cold mountain spring on a hot summers day.

I 'Liked' that feeling.

Sighing I closed my eyes, letting the small whirlpool of water I had channeled mana to create collapse in on itself as I stopped pulling on the mana of the lake.

I might not be a fan of mind magic due to the massive possibility of fucking up, but Blue might be my new favorite kind of mana to pull on before even the pure power of Red.

Still, blue was more than mind magic. It was Illusions, Telekinesis, Air and Water. Many flying creatures were also Blue in nature.

None of them magic I was very skilled at however. TK and possibly Illusions were my strongest of those. Those relied on my internal power before and as such were strongly limited.

Hell, Willow overpowered my current internal power reserves in total capacity if not control by the time I jumped from that world.

I rose from my meditation on the beach and stretched. It is time to move forward now that I've finally made the connection.

The Starks still looked like the best chance for finding a ally...Well, him or the unbalanced idealistic dragon chick.

And she and her pets are a continent and a sea away from here.

I smiled slightly as my current varren walked up with a dead rabbit for me. I took it, petted the Varren and then dismissed it. I had tried to rely on food they caught and not my emergency military rations.

Not only did it taste better, but I rather keep those in reserve.

I strapped the dead rabbit to my belt, leaving it to take care of for later tonight before is started along the edge of the lake.

It is quite big and I am on the wrong side compared to the city, but once there I should be able to buy passage from some trader to Winterfell.

I mean, there must be some kind of trade. It is the closest town to the north from here and this is the closest port to Winterfell.

Still, I should be able to reach Torrhen's Square in a day. Two at most.

As I walked I frowned slightly, glancing up at the skies for a moment. Being able to fly would have been nice.

Still, I only wasted a week and a half on getting this Land. Only the White Plains on the Asgard homeworld came to me easier at about a week...besides, fucking around with learning flight from scratch would hardly be the safest thing to do even if I managed to craft a spell for it.

Sighing I shook my head, walking around one of the large rocks on the shoreline. This whole magic thing would had been so much easier with a teacher and not needing to start from scratch with every single thing.

While our power was likely about equal, Mary did out skill me by a nice amount. The Wings were only one part of it. Summoning Knights IN their armor and with weapons was another. Her choice of magic likely synergized better with armies as well as she seemed to be monowhite.

Which means that to win I would need to either overpower her, learn REALLY fast or cheat like a motherfucker.

At best right now I would likely be able to fight her to a draw in a one on one.

Which means I need an advantage.

I grimaced unhappily. That's not even counting the undead raising 'Things' massing in the North. If I also did not finish things quickly, they would likely kill the both of us.

Well, maybe not us exactly, we could jump ship if needed.

But the rest of the world would be fucked and I'd rather not have the death of a entire world on my consciousness, there is enough shit there already.

And then there was the unstable bint with the dragons. Those things could become a problem or a massive asset. Getting my hands on the essence of one of those...

I grinned slightly. Getting a Dragon summon would be sweet. Said unstable bint was also kind of hot if a bit to young, even if the current universe happened to be the series and not the books. Getting her as a ally would be...helpful but very tricky.
Besides, she was one of the less dickish people with power on this world.

I waved my hand, channeling some blue to make a globe of pure water lift from the lake and over to me so I could take a drink, just because I bloody well could. I should focus on things I can do now, not people to far away to even reach.

Which means the Starks are the most likely candidate and likely the easiest ones to win the cooperation of as well.

AN// Big thanks to SuperSonicSound for betaing.

Cheat like a Motherfucking Munchkin! Powergaming and Min-Max'ing for the fucking WIN! :D

I think Min-Maxing with this type of mana might be a bad idea. But there are likely other ways to cheat. For example figure out how to make a mana battery or one of the other ways to make a mana ramp.

Use the hax my young padawan use that hacks and cheet like your life depends on it oh wait it does never mind then. ;)

Well isn't this a change of pace!

Let's see where this goes, shall we?

Yes, Yes, the plan of bringing about a new dawn of better grammar and punctuation approaches. The Plan Advances! All Hail Grammar! ALL HAIL GRAMMAR! ALL HAIL GRAMMAR!

Well it seems like the blue mana injection kicked winters brainy bits up to where the rest of his mana influenced, goals morals, and emotions are. Not that he was physically missing his reasoning and planning centers. Its just that they just were not strong enough to be heard over the rest.

Also one the Mary Vs Winter capabilities.

Mary has a Deep but skinny pool of abilities to draw from, kind of like a water well. Its very limited in the long run.

Winter on the other hand, has a very wide but rather shallow ability set. all colors, but not very many of them. Like an ocean that is ankle deep. At least for right now.

The only problem with the option of cheating is, well... It's rather easier said than done.

When it comes down to it, "cheating" is more like surprising your opponent(s) with maneuvers and tactics that are completely outside of their scope and thus aren't expecting. That presupposes having said tactics for use in the first place.

At this point, Winter has several possible methods he can pursue to try to exploit in his "feud" with Mary, not all of which are mutually exclusive:
1. Meta knowledge of the setting.
2. Better knowledge and understanding of their planeswalker and mana based powers.
3. Wider scope of spells. Both due to his access to all 5 colors of mana and his meta knowledge of possible spells/cards.
4. Equipment, items, and knowledge from other worlds.

To exploit those advantages, he can do the following, respectively:
1. Get in contact with the major powers of the world and use his meta knowledge of the setting to outmaneuver Mary in politics.
2. Concentrate on claiming more lands. Winter knows that the amount of mana he can bring to bare depends on the number of lands he has claimed. Mary... Probably doesn't... If he exploits this advantage, then the next time they meet Winter might be able to just overpower her straight out.
3. Leverage the variety he has with spell. Yes, she can summon knight, use buffs and binds, and heal, but what about the more esoteric stuff you can do with white? What if, next time, rather than fighting her head on with summons and lightning, you instead deploy counterspells, lay enchantments to make her healing spells harm instead, make yourself untargetable, throw her in a time warp, confuse her with illusions, etc?
4. Use the pistol you have next time. She probably wouldn't have any idea what it is or what it does, and with any luck, you might be able to catch her by surprise with it. Alternatively, you can use the information in your omnitool to help uplift some people technologically, which could end up being a big help to whichever political faction you side with. Finally, you might try to take a Walk to some other worlds to get some more stuff. A personal shield, a Sword that cuts apart magic, some flashbangs, etcs... All of those could be stuff that Mary wouldn't expect and could give you an advantage.

All of these options also have disadvantages too...
1. Playing politics isn't really all that easy, and trying to match an insane fanatic with political power is likely to end up messy, what with her first and only reaction to people getting in her way being to kill them.
2. Takes time. Time that you won't have any idea what she's doing, which isn't a very good thing...
3. Need to develop and test said spells... Who knows if they'll actually work too...
4. Using things like the pistol will rely on surprise and luck. Uplifting presupposes an in with the political faction you're trying to side with. Going to other worlds to try to get stuff is going to take a lot of time and effort, and you'll be even more out of touch with current event in the meanwhile than #2...

Not really. Mary probably has more mana than he does, overall at least, and is more experienced with it than he is. His only real advantage is that what he lacks in focused specialization he makes up for in versatility and the fact that he isn't completely fucking insane. The comparison to well/shallow ocean doesn't really work either since there are significant differences between what mana can be used to do, despite "costing" the same amount overall. Just because someone has more doesn't mean they can use it more effectively, and just because someone has less, but more variety, doesn't mean they're better off. For example even if they both had exactly the same amount of lands, of the same types, they would both almost certainly vary entirely simply due to the different fields they focused in.
I didnt mention mana amount because Hiver never told us it. I would assume its at least 5 because of what she pulled. Never mentioned the sanity thing because it has no barring on what I was trying to say. then on the last bit I only said that he could eventually pull from the different mana sources for the varied effects, however that at the moment he is limited on the mana pool depth per color. And of course they are going to vary differently, Winter has multicolor and will be hesitant to summon sapient beings, Mary is a bumfuck crazy monowhite knight summoning menace.
