Finding transport to Winterfell was easy. Getting the trader to bring me with him was even easier with a bit of gold to smooth the process.
You would be surprised at how fast traveling by wagon train seems after walking on foot for days. Perhaps not as fast as riding Varren, but a hell of a lot more comfortable ... and it would not scare the locals to death if I was seen. That's also kind of a plus.
The cart lumbered along as I rested my back against a crate that, from the scent, contained some kind of fabric, as Winterfell starting to come into view.
It looked...massive. Thick stone walls and towers. Solid. Looked like it had always been there and would always be there.
Considering it was built three thousand years before the pyramids in Egypt, it's not surprising.
I frowned slightly as the cart train slowly moved closer. These guys have had more or less uninterrupted civilization for over eight thousand years.
Their technology had not changed much at all for that entire time. Maybe a bit better steel and such but they also had weapons they could no longer copy, such as the Stark sword 'Ice'.
Something bizarre was going on. Humans simply do not stagnate that way without reason. Humans are too ... curious.
As we drew to a halt in Wintertown, the small half village, half trading spot outside the castle, I jumped off the cart, thanking the trader for the ride before I looked around.
Some guards, not many. Mostly peasants coming to trade at the small market. The traders come here to sell and buy instead of going to every village around the place.
Grabbing my pack I walked up to the closest guard.
"Excuse me, I would like to speak with the Lord in resident, please." I told him and he turned, gave me a once over before he shook his head.
"The Lord meets the people every few days. Go and apply for a meeting then." the guard said, dismissing me as a trader of some sort.
I raised my eyebrow "And when would the next occasion be?" I asked and he sighed, looking at me again.
"In two days." He said before going back to trying to ignore me.
I slowly nodded and stepped back. Insisting or forcing it would likely be possible, but would not be in the best interest of diplomacy. But on the other hand time WAS of the essence.
"Excuse me, if the Lord is not free, would it be possible to get a word with the Maester?" I asked the Guard again and he sighed.
"Come with me." the guard before he turned to lead me to his commander with all the enthusiasm of a shelfstocker of a major store.
I walked along, looking around happily. Honestly, this place was not bad.
The guard commander looked me over after having a quiet talk with the guard that took me to him.
"You wish to meet with the Maester or the Lord?" he asked "What's your name and purpose?"
I smiled slightly "My name is Winter. I'm here to save the world."
He raised his eyebrows, not looking that impressed "Look, we don't have time for any half wit that wanders in here. Why are you here and why should I let you speak to any of them?"
I shook my head. Why is it that telling the truth never work? "I've got important information for Robb Stark that will win him the war. He is however not the easiest man in the world to track down so I went for the place where you can be certain to find a Stark."
"Yeah ... Sure you do." he said "Sign up for a meeting. If you are approved, you will be called in in two days."
Okay, that was plenty enough.
"I find your lack of faith disturbing." I said as I extended my hand, lifting him off his feet by channeling a small amountof blue mana and an application of will.
The two other guards in the room scrambled for their swords so I extended a hand towards them as well, pressing them back down into their seats before I focused back on the floating and struggling commander of the guard.
"Now, I'm going to put you down if you feel like listening?" I told him, and he choked out a small noise as he jerked his head in a nod.
I gently put him back on the floor before I continued "Now, would you be so kind as to tell the resident Stark that I am here and that I have important information that, if it does not reach Robb Stark and his army, will cause the world to fall."
He looked like he was about to have a heart attack as I turned around, almost stalking out of the room "I will be waiting outside the gates."
Ok, I might have lost my temper a tad, but I would not let this world fall because some damn guard with delusions of power wanted to have an opportunity to push somebody around.
AN// Dimensionist are to be thanked for this one. Yes, it's a bit short but it is to warm to write. Also, i want to get the personality of Bran and Luwin right so i am doing research.
