The King is Dead, An Heir Is Born: Crusader Kings 3

Playing a Byzantine Doux and trying to build in my empty holdings - but I can only build castles (not temples or cities) and haven't been able to figure out why.

Any ideas?

CK3 Dev Diary #42 - 1.1 Patch Notes

Greetings! Tomorrow is the day when patch 1.1 will drop, and we’re very excited to share it with you! We've made a variety of UI improvements, fixed a whole bunch of bugs, and addressed many common issues players have run into. Using the...

I've realized that switching to feudal is every bit the kick in the teeth it was in CK2.

Didn't they make it slightly better with the latest patch?

Unless you have mod then the sky is the limit.

Also, what's the downside of an "unreformed" faith. Is there any reason to reform your faith?

Oh, and, here's a question: how do you keep from having your Empire break up with Confederate Partition as soon as it includes the area of another Empire? Or are Empire titles unmade exempt from this? I don't know why they would be, which is making me imagine gamey solutions like getting most of the way for multiple Empires or etc. I have no idea how I'm going to be able to Unite Africa.

I remember reading that there is a certain threshold for owned land for a new title to be formed with the confederate partition law, but i can't find the exact amount (the wiki uses the general "enough land")

And regarding reforming faiths: there is a table of the differences under "Faith Organization" here:

Religion - CK3 Wiki

The sheer amount of territory needed to unite africa is so absurde I'm pretty certain the game does not actually plan for you to do it.

You have incredibly strong CBs as a tribal nation (Kingdom conquest, Invasion, Subjugation), which can probably get you there before tribes become obsolete (also, there's an achivement for converting all of africa to your religion (starting as the 867 adventurer down there) which certainly implies you can both conquer *and* convert the continent)

When do Tribes become obsolete, generally? Like, it's currently 905 and I have my first Empire, plus a bit, but mostly just the Empire itself.

How soon should I reform my religion?

Reform your religion whenever, tbh? and tribes stop being good when you start seeing forts you cant siege down in a reasonable timespan

re:confederate partition, you can try making your empire titles elective (might work?) otherwise you'll need to manually fix your succesion. Note that if you only have one other heir, you can declare a subjugation war on him and usurp all his empire-tier titles

Hmm, though can't you just buy Onagers... well, you need to research it first, obviously, but that's next on the list once I finish Public Works. Or do tribes have a disadvantage at sieges beyond that?

Might do another Daura campaign since I couldn't finish mine (took too long trying to pay for every broke feudal vassal's development) but I think the main issue for me before this patch was that my vassals never stayed tribal. In the end I was slowly losing resources because my vassals wanted to go feudal without being able to pay for it.

Hmm, how soon did they do so? I'm currently in 919 with an Empire that started with a Daura start. Currently allied with a startlingly powerful Ghana, and slowly expanding to reach borders with them over the next lifetime, and maybe I'll also build up to the Sahara and East into Abyssinia while I'm at it.

My heir, though, is terrible. Lazy and arbitrary and with her highest stat an 11. Ugh.
