Compared to the last few months, this quarter has been a hotspot for alien activity with no less than five UFOs being sighted over the past three months.
The first is a D-Class over the sea with the closest country being Argentina, but far enough off-shore that it is more ocean than coastline. A pair of
Defender Jet-Interceptors engage the alien spacecraft in a bloody battle. One of the
Defenders is lost along with its pilot, but the second is able to bring down the UFO before returning to Bravo Base.
The second and third UFOs are spotted at the same time, in May near Lake Baikal in Russia. Both of them are A-Class UFOs and accordingly, a squadron of interceptors engages and shoots down both without any major difficulty.
The fourth UFO arrives in late May, on the outskirts of Shiraz in Iran. Another A-Class, interceptors from Charlie Base swiftly bring it down before any damage can be done to the city.
Unfortunately, the fifth UFO of the quarter causes significantly more trouble. A massive alien spaceship, easily three times the size of one of the alien battleships, decloaks over Moscow. To the surprise, horror and anger of the INDEX Initiative, the Russian Prime Minister renounces his country's membership in the INDEX Initiative and declares friendship with the alien invaders. He claimed the conflict was caused by misunderstandings and only continues because of unprovoked hostilities committed by INDEX.
Director Ambrosius attempted to have fighters equipped with nuclear warheads engage the alien supership, but was overruled by the INDEX Council, who while incensed over the betrayal of Russia, had little desire to escalate to such levels right now.
In response to Russia defecting from INDEX to the aliens, both Finland and Ukraine have declared their desire to join the INDEX Initiative.

[-] Foxtrot Base (Stage 2)
Located in the Australian Outback, Foxtrot Base will be the centre of INDEX operations in Oceania. Relatively isolated, Foxtrot Base is intended to be a training site and unofficial HQ of the rapid response teams.
(226/150, 10 Resources per Die) (+4 Basing)
(76/200, 10 Resources per Die) (+5 Basing, +1 to SpecOps Division Dice)
Work on Foxtrot Base begins once more, with no additional construction having taken place since the INDEX base was originally built back in late 2015. The basic base facilities are expanded to allow for a full-sized base and as June comes to an end, the work for a second expansion has already begun.
[-]
Chariot IFV Factories (Stage 1 Delta Base)
A series of
Chariot IFV factories located at various INDEX bases will let INDEX produce more of the vehicle in-house in addition to providing a supply of internally sourced spare parts for maintenance and repair work.
(132/120, 15 Resources per Die) (+2 Gear, -1 Basing, -1 Logistics)
(Stage 2 Charlie Base, 12/120, 15 Resources per Die) (+2 Gear, -1 Basing, -1 Logistics)
While work on the
Spartan MBT factory concludes at Delta Base this quarter, construction on a
Chariot IFV factory begins at the same INDEX site. Using part of work put into place for the tank factory, the
Chariot production line is up and running by the end of the quarter, increasing the rate of deployment for the
Chariot IFV.
[-]
Hawk Attack Helicopter Factories (Stage 1 Delta Base)
A series of
Hawk Attack Helicopter factories located at various INDEX bases will let INDEX produce more of the vehicle in-house in addition to providing a supply of internally sourced spare parts for maintenance and repair work.
(115/120, 15 Resources per Die) (+2 Gear, -1 Basing, -1 Logistics)
Just as happened with its ground-based compatriots, a factory for the
Hawk Attack Helicopter begins construction at Delta Base to provide INDEX with an internal supply of
Hawks and spare parts for it. Unfortunately, the factory isn't quite ready for service as the year hits the halfway point with a small bit of work still left to finish before it can be brought online.
[-] Warsaw Reconstruction (Stage 3)
Though the attack was ultimately defeated, the aliens did do substantial damage to the Polish capital. While others such as the Polish government will be involved in the reconstruction efforts, INDEX can do its part to help Warsaw recover from the alien attack.
(92/275, 20 Resources per Die) (+2 PS)
INDEX continues to help with the reconstruction of Warsaw and by this point, the majority of the damage done by the alien attack has been repaired, enough that the Polish capital is effectively back to normal.
[-] Vehicular Laser Weaponry
With the breakthrough with functional laser weapons, INDEX can now design laser weapons to put on its vehicles. While more weapons may be invented in the future, for now, INDEX merely desires a laser cannon to put on its interceptors, warships and ground vehicles.
(545/500, 40 Resources per Die) (+1 PS)
After several months of research, the scientists of INDEX have finally come up with a laser weapon to be mounted on the vehicles used by INDEX. While not overly impressive, it has acceptable damage output between its rate of fire and destruction caused by each shot. While it is still ammo limited, the battery of the laser can hold enough power for a substantial number of shots, ranging from eighty to a hundred.
Unfortunately, it isn't a simple matter of slapping these lasers onto existing vehicles and calling it a day. INDEX will need to do refit deployments to roll out the new laser weapons and before it can do that, INDEX will need to develop those refits.
[-] Alien Computers
The alien computers aboard the crashed UFO at Enigma Site are completely intact. While INDEX doesn't currently know how to access or operate them, it can study them to learn such knowledge and possibly figure out ways to upgrade their own computers.
(472/450, 40 Resources per Die) (-3 Salvage)
In addition to designing a laser weapon, the researchers of INDEX have finished figuring out how to use the captured alien computers. While still far from having mastery of them, INDEX has the knowledge to unlock them and operate them with a limited set of basic commands. Unfortunately, more advanced usage of the alien computers or figuring out the data aboard them would require an understanding of the alien language.
[-]
Chariot IFV Deployment (Stage 1 Frontline Units)
While there hasn't been much ground combat so far, equipping INDEX with the
Chariot IFV will help provide its infantry forces with some armoured firepower to support any engagements fought on foot.
(34/120, 15 Resources per Die) (-1 Manpower, -1 Gear, -1 Fuel)
Unfortunately, part of the initial shipment includes key parts from Russia and their recent withdrawal from the INDEX Initiative has disrupted the initial effort to deploy the new
Chariot Infantry Fighting Vehicle amongst INDEX's ranks. While things have been changed to avoid further disruptions, little progress has been made this quarter in the
Chariot deployment.
[-]
Spartan MBT Deployment (Stage 1 Frontline Units)
While there hasn't been much ground combat so far, equipping INDEX with the
Spartan MBT will help provide its infantry forces with heavy armoured firepower to support any engagements fought on foot and to engage any vehicles that the aliens may deploy.
(72/100, 20 Resources per Die) (-1 Manpower, -1 Gear, -1 Fuel)
The rollout of the
Spartan Main Battle Tank goes more smoothly with the shipments going on schedule and the various active formations of INDEX have been receiving their new tanks without issue. By the end of the quarter, the
Spartan has been deployed to the majority of frontline units.
[-]
Huntress-class Light Carrier Deployment (Stage 1 Block I) (+25 Progress Per Turn)
The
Huntress-class Light Carrier won't be engaging enemy forces directly, but by acting as a mobile base for some of INDEX's aircraft, warships of this type will allow INDEX to react quicker to alien incursions.
(253/200, 30 Resources per Die) (-1 Manpower, -1 Gear, -1 Fuel)
(Stage 2 Block II 53/200, 30 Resources per Die) (-1 Manpower, -1 Gear, -1 Fuel)
With the majority of the planned
Sentry-class Frigates under construction, focus shifts to the
Huntress-class Light Carrier. A substantial amount of progress takes place this quarter with the first block of
Huntresses being expected to finish in 2020 while work begins on the second planned block of light carriers.
[-]
Hawk Attack Helicopter Deployment (Stage 1 Frontline Units)
While there hasn't been much ground combat so far, equipping INDEX with the
Hawk Attack Helicopter will help provide its ground forces with sufficient air support that its current interceptors will struggle to provide.
(113/100, 15 Resources per Die) (-1 Manpower, -1 Gear, -1 Fuel)
(Stage 2 Reserve Units, 13/100, 15 Resources per Die) (-1 Manpower, -1 Gear, -1 Fuel)
The deployment of the
Hawk Attack Helicopter goes extremely well and by the end of the quarter, it is well ahead of initial expectations. As July begins to roll around, all of the combat units have been assigned
Hawk Attack Helicopters and INDEX is beginning to stockpile its reserves.
[-] Signal Interceptor Deployment (Stage 6 Alpha Base)
With the signal interceptor having finished development, it is just a matter of deploying it to each INDEX base.
(90/50, 15 Resources per Die)
The last signal interceptor is installed at Alpha Base, giving INDEX full coverage across all of its bases.
[-] Security Review (Infrastructure) (Cannot choose Research until Q3 2018)
Whether it be from a terrestrial or extraterrestrial source, INDEX can expect external organisations to try and infiltrate it. Review one of its departments to see if INDEX can sniff out any spies or corruption within its ranks.
(108) (DC???)
The security sweep of the Infrastructure Division sees the Security Division uncovering an uncomfortable amount of infiltrators amongst the construction workers. None of them remain as June comes to an end.
[-] Finishing Touches
Sometimes all that is needed is a bit of dedicated administrative capacity and a small infusion of extra budget to bring a project to fruition instead of another full round of funding and attention.
(Requires one die & 5R) (Completes one non-RnD project with equal or less progress points than the dice bonus remaining)
-[-] Alpha Base (Stage 3)
Located in the middle of Kansas in the United States, Alpha Base will be the centre of INDEX operations in North America. Alpha Base is planned to have substantial airpower and air-based logistical facilities to make up for a lack of sea access.
(200/200, 10 Resources per Die) (+5 Basing, +1 to Aerial Division Dice)
With a small infusion of funding, the third stage of Alpha Base is completed, enhancing the overall aerial capabilities of INDEX.

The construction of the
Spartan MBT factory that started during the first months of the year concludes by the halfway point in the year.

For those wondering, Russia leaving was due to a mixture of things, including some beyond your control such as a random event roll. Beyond that, I don't have too much to say here except congratulations on getting your first laser weapon.
Please point out any spelling or grammar mistakes that you spot. Please quote them in the thread and explain what you think is wrong so I know what you are referring to. Feel free to ask questions for more details and information.
