[x] Choose where to put your five stats! Below, choose where to put your stats.
-(+3 Luck and +2 Wis)
[X] Visit the library to return the two books you've finished, and acquire two more. 40% chance of one being a skillbook. You can buy library books for 10 scrips. Counts as 1 action. You can choose 2 books/book subjects below, or write-in.
-Write-in (A book on meditation. If a skillbook buy)
-Write-in (A book on cooking. If a skillbook buy)
[X][X][X][X][X] Grid/Create Skills
-Try to create and then grid the "Unarmed Weapon Mastery" and "Power Strike" skills, by heading out and finding a nice out of the way area to train today.
-To do this, you'll find a decent target in your area, be it a tree or old wall and just start to pound the shit out of it with basic punchs, elbow smashes and knee bashes. All the while attacking in a flurry seeing how long it takes you to tire from such and your current limits.
-If have gained the meditation skill, use that during rest periods to recover quickly before getting right back to training.
-And if you unlocked 'power strike', make sure to spam that skill as much as possible during your attacks when you can.

[X] Plan Punch Good

In the long run, fist fighting is our strongest melee range weapon. Unlike everything else, it's a weapon that only breaks down when we die.

For longer range stuff, we'll want to pickup a gun though.

Well that might not have to be true here with the range option. As we do learn engery bolt for free when our int gets high enough and from there can branch off to create other gamer based range skills.

So we might never have to pick up a gun here if we don't want too.

[x] Go to the bazaar/shop section. 1 action each. Write in for details. I will respond with the cost if not stated.
---[x] Buy weapons.
---[x] Look for a durable melee weapon, such as a solid staff, baton, or blade.
[x] Grind your skills.
---[x] Free-running. Head to the less inhabited sections of Defiance and practice running and climbing over the buildings and scatters. Stick to unoccupied structures for now, no need to irritate someone. Practice Observe, too.

Oh how I love a situation where everyone goes WTF over Gamer abilities.

On the other side I have never heard about Defiance before this quest. So I'm approximately the same position as the main character. Even a little worse ... But the world sounds interesting I hope there is a Russian translation.

4 votes for Plan Punch God. It wins the vote. A small piece of lore follows below, as well as a map. Copy/paste into Paint for a zoom option.

The above image is a map of the Caribbean Sea as of April 5, 2046. Islands were viewed as a minor target by the Votans in all but very rare cases, so places like Cuba and Hispaniola were almost untouched by terraforming. During the war, Cuba and Dominica merged into a single nation state, rapidly growing to encompass many of the minor island states of the Caribbean, as well as an American government in exile in Puerto Rico.

The Caribbean Commonwealth is closely aligned with Columbia, mostly due to their proximity to the Votanis Collective (purple is official holdings, light purple is protectorate/vassals). They don't even mind Haiti being a puppet state of New York, nor do they mind sharing the Sea with stratocarriers from up north. They are, however, growing concerned with continued Votan colonization of Mexico, as well as whatever the hell is coming out of Florida this time of the week.

White nations = neutral or too insignificant for anyone to bother with. Green outline with black inside = chaos zone, uninhabitable. Light green-blue = Earth Republic puppet state. Darker green blue (Bahamas)= part of Columbia.

Aww, no tales of Stephanie in the Big Apple. :(

Well, I guess we that'll have to keep for next time, then. I'm somewhat concerned about dumping all 5 (!) actions into trying to create and develop skills de novo, though, rather than acquiring a weapon and leveling up the blunt weapons skill we already have.

And didn't Han Jee-Han use a baseball bat to develop power strike? I guess we can try to find a sturdy branch or something.

Also, the bookstore would have been a better place to look for skillbooks (60% chance vs. 40%, and not annoying the librarian).

Interesting. Looks like the Caribbean is feeling the pressure of Votan expansion. I wonder how Haiti, of all places, fell under New York control. I would have assumed Puerto Rico would be more likely to join Columbia.

I guess we'll learn more once we finally pick up that post-war America book.

-[X] Save the Points

Come on guys, don't be stupid. Be wise! Save those points for later when they are worth more. Training is easy this early on, wasting them like this when we could have gotten the same from a couple strategy games and games of luck in one day is foolish. This is the worst of immediate benefit to the detriment of our future maximum growth.

I think the vote is locked.

If it isn't, I think there are other modifications that should be made, such as going to the bookstore instead of the library for skillbooks.

I would also personally favor acquiring a weapon (to raise our existing blunt weapons skill and develop power strike with, rather than creating a new skill out of thin air).

If at least three of the players that voted for Plan Punch God change their vote within forty-five minutes, I'll accept the changes and include them in the update.

Paging @Ironforge, @Yzarc, @Bolo, @Ridiculously Average Guy!

Proposed changes to Plan Punch Good:
  1. Bank the stat points.
  2. Look for skillbooks at the bookshop instead of the library.
  3. Acquire a weapon.
I see no reason not to pick #2, since the new bookshop has a 60% chance of success versus only 40% chance at the library (and the librarian would prefer not to sell too many books, either).

I also support #3, personally, though if we're not doing any jobs today we might end up short of funds for a weapon.

#1 has good reasoning behind it, as @Daniel14541 and @WorldSlayer explained:
There's little point in spending out stat points immediately, for a start we don't know what we'll need in the future and there may be important items/skills that require prerequisites so having a stash of points we can spend later would be useful. Also generally having a higher stat means it's harder to later raise that stat so it may slow down our stat growth.

I'll just include the bank stats option and the bookstore thing in the vote, since most people seem to want it.

Also, for tomorrow's piece of lore, do you guys want a map of 2023 Earth, right before the Pale Wars, or do you want to see a page for the Republic of Texas in 2046?

Tell us about Texas. I think it will be interesting to understand how people live there now.

Well for the points thing, since we can't spend the in bulk here. I see little point in saving them since to use them later we will still need to spend them over many updates, thus having to wait to use them when we want later.

As for the whole power strike thing, that skill can be used with any melee attack. As Han used it with his fists, the bat and the spear and since it did get that skill once he first started training, then I felt it wouldn't be all that far off to expect the same here.

Proposed changes to Plan Punch Good:

So the reason I'm going for the library instead of the book store is because it makes a point that we can look for 2 books here, instead of one which I assume the bookshop would have us do. As only the library makes a point of saying we can get two books here.

Though if I'm wrong in how many books we can look for at the book shop I would be more then happy to change the two.

As for the weapon thing, while true that getting a melee would allow us to have a stronger punch right now. It would have to suffer the risk of breaking later and be a clear sign of us being armed to all.

The going for unarmed skills on the other hand would gives us a weapon we could never be disabled from, would both boost our martial arts and bleed into that training and is the kind of skill can easily be used in a non-lethal manner.

No, you can get as many books at the bookstore as you want. I see no point in adding an arbitrary limit like that for a bookstore.

Oh, fun fact. I just found out that the Earth found out about the Votan fleet in 2000, and started building up their military to accommodate it. Does anyone else think that an X-Com/Hearts of Iron sort of strategy game with Defiance set during the Pale Wars would be awesome? The difficulty curve would have to be insane, though.

Cool, any chance I could change things in my plan from going to the library to the book store then? Or are things already gone to far and we'll just have to keep that in mind for now on?

So just like standard Xcom then. :p

I already changed it at the request of several other players.

Nah, this would be more like a Paradox game.

Now I'm thinking of all sorts of insane Defiance crossovers. Worm, X-Com, so many places that would just end terribly for the Votans before they even arrived on Earth.

@jcw3

Hey jcw3, might I ask what kind of flavor of the gamer you will be going for here?

As will we be going with it more leaning on the source material or with it instead more leaning on the Defiance setting?

As would things like magic, dungeon creation and summons be possible here later or would those things be instead switched out for things that make more sense for the Defiance sci-fi setting?
