The Eldritch One (Celestial Forge)

I'd laugh my ass off if Coil ended up dead through this. Piggot thought the attack was through her. Cauldron thought Coil was the person protecting that rouge so he needed to be killed. Piggot was purposely left alive though. Killing everyone is was more of a distraction though.

Now, lets work through things if Coil is dead. All those outside agencies will be coming looking for evidence to try going after the group that arranged this. Nearly everything local that they'd come across would be Coil plots/agents. Without him around, all that would be hanging in the wind to find.

Now, if Coil survived, he will be busy trying to preserve what he can of his network when every one else comes calling and does their massive audit/mole hunt.

I love it that all this is a side effect of one of Taylor's powers that she has little to no clue about.

Thinkers might be blind to her. But from what they know of her. She's a teen that can be talked into things by those she trusts. It wasn't that Lisa was a thinker. It was that she trusted her advice and just went with it.

Hmm, I could see Coil being killed as a method of cutting off the Undersider's support system. She might see without Coil around that the team implodes. Not taking into account that Taylor exists and all that.

Without Coil's money, the Undersiders might implode and merely scatter after a month or two. Then again if Tattletale had any idea that Coil was actually dead, she'd go after his money and loot what she could. I doubt she'd be able to control his setup, but she ought to be able to fund her team.

Piggot is also getting blamed for it

Rebecca: how dare piggot survive my secret asssin and make it so the PRT has a record of her that other people that survive her can compare to

like I can see lexy getting irrationally mad at her for it

More proof that age doesn't always equal up to maturity. Though, I guess if I'd had to lean far too heavily on my powers giving me so called super intelligence, I'd be a pissy baby when things go wrong too.

Isn't she kept a permanent teenager thanks to her power? She literally can't mature past that since I'm pretty sure her neuroplasticity (ability for the brain to change) is shot, she is in effect just a very experienced teenager.

This also is very bad if he doesn't get killed as now he is under massive scrutiny for "miraculously" not being there for the mass murder

This is also going to be a massive shit storm politically, as a police office being attacked is going to be news in the whole country, Piggot is now politically untouchable and RBC HAS to give her resources else she will look suspicious

"While those are good points that's not what I'm referring to. We've managed to get in contact with New Wave, and are now cooperating on this. Panacea managed to strike up a rapport with her in school and has seen fit to share some information about her.

"First up is that she hates cape work and wants to be a civilian. The timing she learned this was such that she was already a member of the Undersiders though, so it can be surmised that she has a particular goal for doing so beyond revenge for her trigger. Everybody involved in that has already either been thoroughly fucked over or driven off. Ideas people?" That sets the room abuzz with speculative whispers. Probably the most productive any of us is gonna be today.

"She could just be stuck in the roll." From Miss Militia. "The incident with the Empire's and Coil's men could have had her running scared, while the McCormicks and the smear campaign would have just prolonged that. If that's the case she will continue to stay with the Undersiders for as long as this bounty is up for the backup in cape fights."

"Could be." From Assault. "Could be that thinker on her team is manipulating her too. We all heard the Palanquin recordings, right? That little lady is a smooth operator. Convinced her not to call the fire department or ambulance for Faultline's mercenaries in just a couple sentences."

"And her anti thinker qualities?" From vice director Rennick.

"Could only apply to her projection." Says Armsmaster.

"Let's not get bogged down in the minutia of her powers." I say, trying to steer the conversation back on track. "Anybody else have any other theories?" A few murmurings, but nobody is confident enough to speak up.

"Then I believe it is time for solutions. We'll reclassify Taylor as a violent vigilante, and her team as a vigilante group with villain members. Are there any serious concerns about this?"

"Wouldn't this embolden them to do more egregious crimes if they know they can get away with it like they have been?" Asks a trooper captain.

"We can make it clear the kids gloves are contingent on their behavior. I believe the PR team can handle that, can't they?" A quick nod from the one of them in attendance.
Doubt that Emily would be that willing to give up on controlling a Parahuman, she's kind of even worse about being a collector then Heartbreaker, or punishing someone for messing with her Department's PR; controlling others and looking good are kind of her only two priorities.
"Good. Second item on the agenda is the Simmurgh. She attacked Canberra on the twenty fourth during evening rush hour local time. This was very good for us. It's estimated that because people were already in their cars that about twenty percent of those who otherwise would've been her victims got away. Naturally there's a catch.

"She has been known to modulate her times like this to cause disruptions elsewhere, or bat down orbiting debris on her way down to accomplish side objectives. Through New Wave we found out that Taylor Hebert was mere feet away from The Instigator when the Endbringer alarm went off. Ready to kill him either then and there, or within the next hour." And oh the chaos that brings to the table. Personally I think she should've just killed him then and there, and damn the consequences. Judging by the noises from the table about half my staff does too.

"If that is quite enough" The room quiets down. "Then I will be changing the Interloper from a national threat to a possible Simmurgh asset." The possible is there because we went after a couple people in his position before a little too hard, and it backfired horribly. Goddamn Simmurgh plots.
That's got to have coincided with a bunch of other shit right?
"What proof do you have of this?"

"Not much I'm afraid." I lament. "Only that the man was a national level threat, and we were denied national assistance in dealing with him once he slipped up."

"I see. I'll look into that Director. Of that you have my word." And she hangs up on me. I look around to make sure nobody's watching.

"Yes!!" As I do a little fist pump. I may not have much reach beyond Brockton Bay, but the Chief Director is another matter entirely. The little dickheads fucking with my department couldn't possibly have more reach than her. I think I'll look into shaking some more trees in about a week too. See what pops out.

Three days later
I'm going through my usual routine in the office when my phone suddenly goes off. My work cell phone in my purse. Damn thing slips out of my hand when I try to answer it. Stupid fat fingers. I bend over-

*BANG*

*CRASH*

Holy shit I'm being shot at!! I immediately dive off of my chair, grab my phone as an afterthought, and roll myself in a most undignified manner to interpose my solid metal desk in-between myself and the now shattered window. Minor lacerations aside I am now safe.

*BANG*

For a given definition of the word at least. I look down at my phone to see Armsmaster calling me. I answer.

"Director I have news about Taylor Hebert."

"Armsmaster I do not give a flying fuck about that glorified prima donna right now!! I am being fucking shot at!! Get the goddamn alert out and mobilize!" A moment passes.

"Yes ma'am."

I spent the next half hour huddling behind my desk, bleeding onto the floor, and desperately trying to organize a response through the comms. Brings back memories. I hate it. After said half hour we finally got the all clear.
You know you're really good at this if you're making me feel pity for the woman who arranged for a bombing run to take out allies under the truce against the Slaughterhouse Nine.
Unfortunately, no chaos for you:(

We don't actually get to see all that much of the paper pushers in the PRT after Tagg. They're all just faceless assholes after that. So I'm gonna have to say that given how active Contessa is, the upper levels already know about her(or should). They just stick their heads in the sand about her and hush any news when she pops up because they can't do shit about her.

The only practical effect on Contessa's path is that Piggot's survival shifts all the blame onto her instead of having it disappear entirely. Nothing the path can't handle when she's already being covered for.

As for Taylor, who cares? She's just another brute really. Much less complicated than Eidolon to plan around. At least for now.
Would probably have been easier to shift blame onto some other patsy in the chain of command.

What was the path for anyway? It seems like a incredibly stupid move to kill everyone that overtly when she can easily arrange accidents.

The problem with the corrupted pathing is that had Contessa & Rebecca done nothing, there wouldn't be any problems. Piggot wouldn't have enough info to connect any dots, and she'd continue to be hung out to dry without having a clue as to how or why.

Now Piggot needs to figure out that her conversation with RBC directly led to her losing all of her senior staff to a sniper that could shoot through walls, and barely surviving herself. I'm waiting to see how she puts the info together and what result she gets. It'll be interesting no matter what direction she ends up going in.

Since Armsmaster was calling her, and he likely heard shots, he knows the timing and Piggot could never had predicted his call so she'd miss getting shot herself (ie: her hiring the sniper is now an impossibility). This puts her in the clear at least, but she's still got a lot of shit to figure out, and I'm afraid RBC is gonna force either crap people with no skills, or ones with enough skills to oust Piggot somehow.

Fun fun fun.

Path To Victory's Paths are rather glass-cannon-esque like that; Mantellum could fuck her up pretty hard.

Path was a quick one. Just to eliminate anybody who knows that PRT ENE is being sabotaged. The one survivor here is a problem, but not that much of one. Piggot still can't really do anything, and blame has been shifted to Contessa. This is not a loss condition for Contessa. In fact it is super easy to deal with. Barely an inconvenience.

Now there probably will be knock on effects there. I will not be going into them because this is a Taylor centric story. The consequences explored will be from Taylor's perspective.

I've been thinking that she really would benefit from a martial arts roll

Plenty mounts are still as strong as any other mouth she has, and human jaws are the strongest muscle in the human body

since she is capable of spawning hand anywhere she can make hands in her hands and feet and transition every strike into a bite, imagine an oblique kick with a jaw that is 20x stronger than a human one, it will literally bite your patella off your leg

that should be about the strength of a gorilla bite

I'm not certain how strong the mouths are, either as strong as her or a borderline annihilator power, like if she ate a piece of lung would the shard lose that piece because it was fused with something else? Like they definitely can't deal with the conceptual bulshit that is haroun and the sea of stories

She also has extra arms which make fighting her a nightmare already, no martial arts work when your target isn't human shapes

acid attacks mean that she can use slaps offensively better them most people, as you are switching direct force for acid spread

she would also be really good at learning martial arts as Stone Age Otaku, Librarian, One man Industry and Time Flies

in fact, it would stack very nicely, she would find the best martial arts teacher available, be incredibly receptive to repetition until she gets the moves perfect, and learn about it 50x faster she can get a black belt in two months

and she can probably learn it about it online if she managed to learn about calculus from a book, which with inertia of self she is not forgetting, as muscle memory is still a form of memory

a good use of her sleepless nights

Also, since she can make ANY fuel, does that mean she can make any liquid that can be used in an engine? Kerosene, alcohol, Ammonia? Promethium?

Like that goes for even stuff like canola oil, or bacon grease, or expensive butter and bone marrow, what is considered fuel varies WILDLY and can serve a ton of uses besides being fuel

fun fact silver powder is very flammable, which is a nice thing that Taylor would probably have liked to know

hell, diamonds are flammable now that I think about it

the Taydenite perk explicitly said it could be used to power spaceships, so it should also count, especially if she gives a sample to the machine

it's effectively a replicator for anything you could conceivably run an engine with =, which is a WIDE category

Some more implications:

all precious metals aside from gold are flammable and thus could be generated in powdered form as a fuel

Foods count as a Fuel for humans and other biological agents, or at the very least basic fat and sugar do

Alcohol production especially has a ton of potential, dilute it in water, let it sit with Flavorings and microwaved Oak chips and you have whiskey production

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4gjqQ-e-XQ

she can make those in 5 hours, or 73 days by simply leaving in a barrel

she can age other foods too, simply by letting them sit

cheeses also benefit from it, she can make the most aged cheese in just 70 days

she can age beef in 13 hours

she can make real balsamic in 90 days

she can make aged ham legs in 11 days that match Jamon Iberico

any wine she buys instantly becomes a vintage and can multiply in price

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ur_nvNZbn6Y

make kimchi in 2 hours

age soy sauce to increase its value

he can actually make GOOD money out of it, and make in large quantity, all she has to do is prepare the food, make the cheese, buy the wine, hang the meat, etc.

Especially since the process, with her perks, is entirely passive and just happening in the background

it's an entirely legal form of getting money

if she lived in NYC, the elite would have already gotten her in contact with several restaurants

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeWauZQcv2U&t=38s

a lot of passive projects should also take her here, tree cultivations can take she can grow cabbages in 2 days, radishes in 20 hours, Corn in 44 hours

she can grow an apple seed into a fruit bearing tree in 50 days!

She can also bypass seed dormancy by waiting, so she can sprout back nearly immediately

like this woman's ability at agriculture is insane

Common magic also helps with this, she can combine plants into new crops, like bananas that taste like apples and vice versa

she can balance the PH of the soil manually, can fix any damage to nutrition of a crop suffered from agriculture, since as the magos biologis puts it organics are also machinery

Glove of the East can make the food tastier and more nutritious and make trees grow better

Factorio does have agriculture built into it, so she could definitely set up an automated farm, it's also one of the few things that she has that are entirely renewable

this also applies to Tractors from the Fast and Furious perk, especially since tractors are super easy to work on

honestly i would be entirely happy if Taylor opens a farm to table restaurant in BB, she really does deserve the ability to chill

Probably best that she need to have a engine capable of accepting new types of fuel before the Facility is willing to produce them.

gasoline engines work with Alcohol already, so at least basic alcohol is possible immediately by getting any car

most vegetable oils work with a diesel engine

bacon grease is also possible because I have video of it working

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWZKbEETgXY

honestly, the amount of Fuels you can use in an internal combustion engine is kind of insane

Pretty much all combustible gasses, almost any flammable liquid with minimal change

Toyota announced an Ammonia engine in 2023

almost anything that burns can work on a small sterling engine

so two different car engines and one you could easily buy as a toy

I'm pretty sure that you need to be careful about the octane of the fuels you put into even a Diesel Engine, even if most oils can be blended with the right amounts of alcohol and possibly a few other additives to become a fuel with those octane levels, but if you really want a wide range of fuels you should go with a turbine engine; one adapted to use a Conical Screw Compressor is at all possible given the increased efficiency that is apparently inherent.

True, but you are still loosing some solids, meanwhile a Stirling engine will literally run on any source of heat, technically you can make candles into the fuel maker, like full on beeswax

A wood powered car also could produce any wood, including exotic ones like ebony

Camel fat is technically usable in diesel engine and costs a fortune, like 50 bucks per pound

Metallic powders alse don't work on turbines I don't think, which would be a big source of income

A turbine engine is also kinda rare for a civilian vehicle her most economical option would be a RC model engine for that

Those are definetly watched for by Tinker detection tho, and potentially get in a fight with chariot for one as a plot hook

View: https://youtu.be/8Uuuv3XAn2c?si=3WiFDSxehZ0YjBOY

meanwhile a car will offer every fuel it can run with, even if it's bad for the engine, alcohol runs on gasoline cars, even of nor very good, and you can make it work with alcohol by changing one piece, she can modify any normal car to run on any fuel it can technically run with easy due to the fast and furious perk

...that escalated quickly.

(Also, sounds like Calvert survived this, and is probably wishing he hadn't.)
At first I was thinking he got killed, too, but unless Contessa killed him in his other timeline first (or immediately after), yeah, he likely survived.

Of course, if he did, that will likely bring up more questions, because at least a few of the others were killed in corridors, restrooms, cafeterias, and here's this bullet with his name on it, but he wasn't even in the building?

I hope that, if Calvert's not dead, Piggot has enough time to think about what's going on, and as soon as he shows up again, she gets him into an MRI. (And when his power lets him get away from that situation, he's probably going to end up as a wanted parahuman with a burned civilian ID, because even with the Unwritten Rules, there are still things you can't get away with.)

Environmental Protection Perk New
So I have misread the environmental Protection Perk, and it has caused some confusion in the thread. I thought the stupid thing rendered Taylor immune to any temperature/radiation/etc, and any magical versions thereof. It instead just renders her immune to environmental sources of damage from tier 3 and up.

Normally I would just roll with it and incorporate it into the story. Unfortunately I already used my interpretation on screen with the electric guy and I refuse to do a rewrite. I will instead just change the perk description where applicable. Not the perfect solution, but it's the only one I'm willing to contemplate. And a 400CP price tag for such an immunity isn't all that unbalanced IMO

Also sorry about the delay, I was busy for the holidays.

It's not a published novel, so thou are excused. More seriously, if slapping a band-aid on works, why bother with stitches?

I thought the electricity was part of the environment because it was the byproduct of a shard and as an organism the entity is larger then stars thus any byproducts or effects will always be environemntal effects and only if the power is reduced and given completly to the parahuman is it not environmental.

(i didn't notice or care because there are a lot of perks there that could negate the effect anyway just the slime form could be an argument or the mouths could be able to swollow the electricity and merge it into something else or used the speed effects of making stuff perks to increase user speed so when the lighting is hitting you the pass through rate is different from the current amount also negating the damadge)
