Piggot is also getting blamed for it
Rebecca: how dare piggot survive my secret asssin and make it so the PRT has a record of her that other people that survive her can compare to
like I can see lexy getting irrationally mad at her for it
Isn't she kept a permanent teenager thanks to her power? She literally can't mature past that since I'm pretty sure her neuroplasticity (ability for the brain to change) is shot, she is in effect just a very experienced teenager.More proof that age doesn't always equal up to maturity. Though, I guess if I'd had to lean far too heavily on my powers giving me so called super intelligence, I'd be a pissy baby when things go wrong too.
I'd laugh my ass off if Coil ended up dead through this. Piggot thought the attack was through her. Cauldron thought Coil was the person protecting that rouge so he needed to be killed. Piggot was purposely left alive though. Killing everyone is was more of a distraction though.
Now, lets work through things if Coil is dead. All those outside agencies will be coming looking for evidence to try going after the group that arranged this. Nearly everything local that they'd come across would be Coil plots/agents. Without him around, all that would be hanging in the wind to find.
Now, if Coil survived, he will be busy trying to preserve what he can of his network when every one else comes calling and does their massive audit/mole hunt.
I love it that all this is a side effect of one of Taylor's powers that she has little to no clue about.
Thinkers might be blind to her. But from what they know of her. She's a teen that can be talked into things by those she trusts. It wasn't that Lisa was a thinker. It was that she trusted her advice and just went with it.
Hmm, I could see Coil being killed as a method of cutting off the Undersider's support system. She might see without Coil around that the team implodes. Not taking into account that Taylor exists and all that.
Without Coil's money, the Undersiders might implode and merely scatter after a month or two. Then again if Tattletale had any idea that Coil was actually dead, she'd go after his money and loot what she could. I doubt she'd be able to control his setup, but she ought to be able to fund her team.
Doubt that Emily would be that willing to give up on controlling a Parahuman, she's kind of even worse about being a collector then Heartbreaker, or punishing someone for messing with her Department's PR; controlling others and looking good are kind of her only two priorities."While those are good points that's not what I'm referring to. We've managed to get in contact with New Wave, and are now cooperating on this. Panacea managed to strike up a rapport with her in school and has seen fit to share some information about her.
"First up is that she hates cape work and wants to be a civilian. The timing she learned this was such that she was already a member of the Undersiders though, so it can be surmised that she has a particular goal for doing so beyond revenge for her trigger. Everybody involved in that has already either been thoroughly fucked over or driven off. Ideas people?" That sets the room abuzz with speculative whispers. Probably the most productive any of us is gonna be today.
"She could just be stuck in the roll." From Miss Militia. "The incident with the Empire's and Coil's men could have had her running scared, while the McCormicks and the smear campaign would have just prolonged that. If that's the case she will continue to stay with the Undersiders for as long as this bounty is up for the backup in cape fights."
"Could be." From Assault. "Could be that thinker on her team is manipulating her too. We all heard the Palanquin recordings, right? That little lady is a smooth operator. Convinced her not to call the fire department or ambulance for Faultline's mercenaries in just a couple sentences."
"And her anti thinker qualities?" From vice director Rennick.
"Could only apply to her projection." Says Armsmaster.
"Let's not get bogged down in the minutia of her powers." I say, trying to steer the conversation back on track. "Anybody else have any other theories?" A few murmurings, but nobody is confident enough to speak up.
"Then I believe it is time for solutions. We'll reclassify Taylor as a violent vigilante, and her team as a vigilante group with villain members. Are there any serious concerns about this?"
"Wouldn't this embolden them to do more egregious crimes if they know they can get away with it like they have been?" Asks a trooper captain.
"We can make it clear the kids gloves are contingent on their behavior. I believe the PR team can handle that, can't they?" A quick nod from the one of them in attendance.
That's got to have coincided with a bunch of other shit right?"Good. Second item on the agenda is the Simmurgh. She attacked Canberra on the twenty fourth during evening rush hour local time. This was very good for us. It's estimated that because people were already in their cars that about twenty percent of those who otherwise would've been her victims got away. Naturally there's a catch.
"She has been known to modulate her times like this to cause disruptions elsewhere, or bat down orbiting debris on her way down to accomplish side objectives. Through New Wave we found out that Taylor Hebert was mere feet away from The Instigator when the Endbringer alarm went off. Ready to kill him either then and there, or within the next hour." And oh the chaos that brings to the table. Personally I think she should've just killed him then and there, and damn the consequences. Judging by the noises from the table about half my staff does too.
"If that is quite enough" The room quiets down. "Then I will be changing the Interloper from a national threat to a possible Simmurgh asset." The possible is there because we went after a couple people in his position before a little too hard, and it backfired horribly. Goddamn Simmurgh plots.
You know you're really good at this if you're making me feel pity for the woman who arranged for a bombing run to take out allies under the truce against the Slaughterhouse Nine."What proof do you have of this?"
"Not much I'm afraid." I lament. "Only that the man was a national level threat, and we were denied national assistance in dealing with him once he slipped up."
"I see. I'll look into that Director. Of that you have my word." And she hangs up on me. I look around to make sure nobody's watching.
"Yes!!" As I do a little fist pump. I may not have much reach beyond Brockton Bay, but the Chief Director is another matter entirely. The little dickheads fucking with my department couldn't possibly have more reach than her. I think I'll look into shaking some more trees in about a week too. See what pops out.
Three days laterI'm going through my usual routine in the office when my phone suddenly goes off. My work cell phone in my purse. Damn thing slips out of my hand when I try to answer it. Stupid fat fingers. I bend over-
*BANG*
*CRASH*
Holy shit I'm being shot at!! I immediately dive off of my chair, grab my phone as an afterthought, and roll myself in a most undignified manner to interpose my solid metal desk in-between myself and the now shattered window. Minor lacerations aside I am now safe.
*BANG*
For a given definition of the word at least. I look down at my phone to see Armsmaster calling me. I answer.
"Director I have news about Taylor Hebert."
"Armsmaster I do not give a flying fuck about that glorified prima donna right now!! I am being fucking shot at!! Get the goddamn alert out and mobilize!" A moment passes.
"Yes ma'am."
I spent the next half hour huddling behind my desk, bleeding onto the floor, and desperately trying to organize a response through the comms. Brings back memories. I hate it. After said half hour we finally got the all clear.
Would probably have been easier to shift blame onto some other patsy in the chain of command.Unfortunately, no chaos for you
We don't actually get to see all that much of the paper pushers in the PRT after Tagg. They're all just faceless assholes after that. So I'm gonna have to say that given how active Contessa is, the upper levels already know about her(or should). They just stick their heads in the sand about her and hush any news when she pops up because they can't do shit about her.
The only practical effect on Contessa's path is that Piggot's survival shifts all the blame onto her instead of having it disappear entirely. Nothing the path can't handle when she's already being covered for.
As for Taylor, who cares? She's just another brute really. Much less complicated than Eidolon to plan around. At least for now.
Easier to frame someone for the hit on them then to frame someone for the conspiracy they found? What was the path for anyway? It seems like a incredibly stupid move to kill everyone that overtly when she can easily arrange accidents.
Path To Victory's Paths are rather glass-cannon-esque like that; Mantellum could fuck her up pretty hard. The problem with the corrupted pathing is that had Contessa & Rebecca done nothing, there wouldn't be any problems. Piggot wouldn't have enough info to connect any dots, and she'd continue to be hung out to dry without having a clue as to how or why.
Now Piggot needs to figure out that her conversation with RBC directly led to her losing all of her senior staff to a sniper that could shoot through walls, and barely surviving herself. I'm waiting to see how she puts the info together and what result she gets. It'll be interesting no matter what direction she ends up going in.
Since Armsmaster was calling her, and he likely heard shots, he knows the timing and Piggot could never had predicted his call so she'd miss getting shot herself (ie: her hiring the sniper is now an impossibility). This puts her in the clear at least, but she's still got a lot of shit to figure out, and I'm afraid RBC is gonna force either crap people with no skills, or ones with enough skills to oust Piggot somehow.
Fun fun fun.
What was the path for anyway? It seems like a incredibly stupid move to kill everyone that overtly when she can easily arrange accidents.
No, it was an accident. Armsmaster called her with information about Taylor, but because Taylor is a blank space, that call could not be predicted, and Piggot managed to survive.Piggot was purposely left alive though. Killing everyone is was more of a distraction though.
Probably best that she need to have a engine capable of accepting new types of fuel before the Facility is willing to produce them.all precious metals aside from gold are flammable and thus could be generated in powdered form as a fuel
Foods count as a Fuel for humans and other biological agents, or at the very least basic fat and sugar do
Alcohol production especially has a ton of potential, dilute it in water, let it sit with Flavorings and microwaved Oak chips and you have whiskey production
Probably best that she needs to have an engine capable of accepting new types of fuel before the Facility is willing to produce them.
gasoline engines work with Alcohol already, so at least basic alcohol is possible immediately by getting any car
most vegetable oils work with a diesel engine
bacon grease is also possible because I have video of it working
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWZKbEETgXY
honestly, the amount of Fuels you can use in an internal combustion engine is kind of insane
Pretty much all combustible gasses, almost any flammable liquid with minimal change
Toyota announced an Ammonia engine in 2023
almost anything that burns can work on a small sterling engine
so two different car engines and one you could easily buy as a toy
At first I was thinking he got killed, too, but unless Contessa killed him in his other timeline first (or immediately after), yeah, he likely survived....that escalated quickly.
(Also, sounds like Calvert survived this, and is probably wishing he hadn't.)
It's not a published novel, so thou are excused. More seriously, if slapping a band-aid on works, why bother with stitches? So I have misread the environmental Protection Perk, and it has caused some confusion in the thread. I thought the stupid thing rendered Taylor immune to any temperature/radiation/etc, and any magical versions thereof. It instead just renders her immune to environmental sources of damage from tier 3 and up.
Normally I would just roll with it and incorporate it into the story. Unfortunately I already used my interpretation on screen with the electric guy and I refuse to do a rewrite. I will instead just change the perk description where applicable. Not the perfect solution, but it's the only one I'm willing to contemplate. And a 400CP price tag for such an immunity isn't all that unbalanced IMO
Also sorry about the delay, I was busy for the holidays.
I thought the electricity was part of the environment because it was the byproduct of a shard and as an organism the entity is larger then stars thus any byproducts or effects will always be environemntal effects and only if the power is reduced and given completly to the parahuman is it not environmental.Normally I would just roll with it and incorporate it into the story. Unfortunately I already used my interpretation on screen with the electric guy and I refuse to do a rewrite. I will instead just change the perk description where applicable.
