I went a little bit overboard on training during the truce. Nothing truly ridiculous, but I was clocking at least five hours a day with either Brian or Bitch. Training with Bitch was... an experience. When we did this the first time she just set her dogs on me in the backyard of her shelter, never letting me rest. I tired out all her trained dogs she had to throw at me eventually, so we worked on our hand to hand after that. I'm not entirely sure she wasn't just trying to beat me up, but it was good practice regardless.
Oh, hey, I was right; Taylor
did end up weaponizing the non-combat-skill buff.
Also, I would have thought that Rachel would have used Taylor as her practice dummy for training some commands into her other untrained dogs; not like she usually has someone immune to bites like Taylor.
Also also, good for Rachel; getting some help tiring out her dogs! Must be
fantastic for them.
My practice times in general quadrupled from before, and whatever time I didn't spend relaxing, training, or in school I spent reading up on various subjects.
Ah, of course; the Taylor Hebert school of working at least twenty hours a day, minimum.
I assume that this means that the five hours per day are quadruple what she was doing before, but the phrasing is funny and not impossible given her Perks; I think that I calculated that she might be able to get Time Flies to contribute to her rate of sleeping.
One of these subjects being how well received my actions were by the public. Apparently I'm a divisive figure. Every single major news outlet tried to vilify me, but about three quarters of anybody online was on my side. The flame war on my PHO thread was epic.
Yeah, that tracks...
Another subject I researched was the history of the heroes and villains of the bay. Not in the forums where everybody 'knows' what happened, but the newspaper and press release archives. And surprisingly things are better on the cape front than they were fifteen years ago. Back then the Empire was far more powerful with three ferrokinetics on Kaiser's level, the Teeth and Marquis were in their heyday, like five different Asian gangs all competing for power, and then the Slaughterhouse came into town right after the boat graveyard was sunk to kick us while we were down. Wow.
After that, Marquis kicked out the Slaughterhouse, he kicked out the Teeth, he kicked out like seventeen other minor gangs that nobody really cares about. But they still had guns and men and shit!! Looking at this cynically it seems like the heroes took him out because he was making them look bad. I'm having trouble looking at this any way other than cynically. Makes my guts churn with a feeling I can't quite place.
Taking a look at the Nazis... They have experienced a steady decline due to cape casualties taken during Endbringer fights. Hell, the only reason our tourism is so good right now is because they lost their five craziest members about five years back in an especially brutal one. Surprising that the empire sends out capes for Endbringer fights and the ABB doesn't. Even if they do only have two capes total.
The heroes? Have done fuck all, really. Behind all the wishy washy press releases and spin doctoring, they haven't really been doing much of value. The last big move they did that stuck was the Marquis arrest. Which was done at his private home, leveraging New Wave's mostly female roster to not get immediately murder blendered. Wow. They immediately unmasked in order to try and promote accountability among the wider cape community, but we all know how that went, don't we.
You know, ironically, I think that this makes the Protectorate a cautionary tale against removing bad things without something to replace them.
Biggest splash the PRT made was when Chubster transferred out in disgust over not being allowed to make a difference here.
Oh, shit, really? Is Chubster being from Brookton Bay canonical?
Enough philosophizing though. We have a mission from Coil right now. He gathered Intel on the E88 during the truce and we're about to raid one of their storehouses.
Oh, that's, for a lack of a better term, legitimologically dubious.
"We ready?" Brian asks. He gets nods from every one of us. We're in an alleyway nearby our target. We're all situated on the dogs so we can all get there at the same time. He leads the charge on the dog he's on, while I'm riding with Alec, and Tattletale is riding bitch with Bitch. The dogs rip the door off in a cacophony of splintering wood and metal tearing, and I'm on point.
That's Alabaster just chilling on the couch. A Nazi cape with a constantly resetting immortality power who is just stark white. He's aiming his gun at me.
"GUYS! CA-glrrk" I gasp as the previously unseen thug to my left grabs me by the 'throat'.
They really need to get better at room-clearing; I can't believe that I'm about to say this, but they need to play COD or something for education.
If there isn't already something like, looking it up, Ready Or Not then I bet that Taylor could Plentimaw something up.
"Well looky what we have here. The local money pinata." I try dissolving the grip he has on me, but, of course, he's a brute.
...Wait a second, *Checks Worm Wiki*, E88 doesn't
have any Brutes. No direct ones; Alabaster, Fenja, Menja, and anyone buffed by Othala are the only people with claims to that title.
He throws me out of the window right quick.
"Kill them." He says almost nonchalantly. I hear the rapport of gunfire as Alabaster unloads into one of the dogs, and in response Grue turns the whole area pitch black. But not before I see a shifting mass of malevolent knives and metal come through the window after me.
Oh that was Hookwolf. Hookwolf just threw me out a window and is landing on top of me.
Yeah, even Hookwolf isn't really a Brute; he's a Changer; the closest that he gets to being a Brute is keeping subdermal layers of his body constantly Changed, but that shouldn't be corrosion-resistant.
He grunts as his blades pierce me and fail to hurt.
Get hard-counted idiot~ Especially with your need to keep a living-tissue Core even in your Changer state!
"Messy bitch. Cricket be a dear and unmake their eardrums." He's still shifting a little bit, and dragging me with him.
"Amoeba!!" From Grue. Yeah, I hate it. I'm just about to to remove myself from Hookwolf before I lose any sense of direction and balance. Oh God why? I gotta make due with my proprioception and hand eye coordination and that is just not cutting it.
Since fucken when do Nazarickian Slimes have Cochlia? Man, if that's what Taylor's dealing with then she needs to spin up a gyroscope or something. A few gyroscopes even. Shouldn't even need to Plentimaw that shit; she can probably make them out of pure slime.
You know what? I think I'm done with these nazi fucks trying to kill my friends. I might not be able to stand or tell which way is down right now, but I can tell Hookwolf here is moving. I start gripping and pulling shit apart randomly to try and stop that from happening. I am rewarded by my efforts with flailing motions and skittering blade on pavement sounds.
Yeah, Taylor really needs to start acting like she's twelve feet tall, because she's got the strength of someone who is.
I reach into the shifting mass of blades some more an pull-
*CRUNCH*
Get hard-countered idiot~
Almost as soon as I can formulate these questions, the bastard shrieks, my entire world gets shaken, and whatever Cricket is doing redoubled on me and I can't really keep my shape in response. I basically just melt out of Hookwolf onto the pavement.
Speaking as someone who's had sicknesses that left them feeling like they was on the ceiling when they laid down, that's a bit of a overreaction; even if she can't stand up she could probably still crawl.
"What, did the Nazi not like what I did to him?" I taunt. "Well too bad! Get over here and give me another hug!"
"Taylor?!" From Alec on the dog.
"Alabaster, Cricket, we're retreating!" Hookwolf growls out. He makes good on his word and muffledly skitters away down the street. Cricket's stupid anti balance aura goes with him. It's still pitch black out right now because of Grue's fog, but I latch onto Regent's mount and pull myself up.
"Yeah it's me. Hey Grue are we still robbing this place?"
"Hell no!!" Sounds like he's across the street, but he's probably only a couple yards away. "We're leaving before they come back with reinforcements. Let's go!"
Ha! Yeah, Taylor's always ready to throw down isn't she?
A shame that they couldn't at least bomb the place, maybe leave behind some Nitroglycerine for those reinforcements.
Also, I know how Grue's Darkness works, but I like to think that he had actually started running and actually
was half-way down the street by the time he said that.
Back at the loft we get to licking our wounds and taking stock of the situation. The dogs got off the lightest due to the trickery Bitch's power does with their forms, but the woman herself was bleeding from her ears for a little while. She was closest to Cricket in the fight.
You know, I bet that Taylor could repair, or at least replace, ear-drums pretty easily; just sort of patch the hole with some material or another. Probably replace the bones in there as well if necessary.
"So Tatts. You got any insights as to how that clusterfuck happened?" Asks Brian.
"Well I can tell you they weren't surprised to see us!!" She yells out. "They weren't expecting us specifically though, so I get the feeling they were feeding a line to one of the boss's sources to see who they were spying for!!"
Well shit; sounds like some poor bastard got Canary Trapped.
"Well I got engulfed by him, and I guess it didn't really matter to me." As I combine and separate my index fingers as a demonstration.
Oh, damn, he Iron Maidened her? Fuck, that could have gone badly; good thing that it happened to Taylor.
"Well excuse me for not going that far in my power testing! It seemed like kind of a bad idea at the time! Anyways when I was inside him I couldn't coordinate myself due to whatever Cricket was doing. So I started trying to pull him apart from the inside. I'm pretty sure I found something organic." Brian looks simultaneously happy and mildly disgusted at my news. I'll take it.
Did they keep any souvenirs? Hookwolf-bits could be valuable
and useful. Bare minimum I bet that the MAM could chew into it.
A few days later there's a shooting at the PRT building with multiple dead officials and officers. Then the call came back from 'the boss' that we're on double pay for a month to lay low.
God damnit Coil, what the fuck are you doing?
...Oh, wait, this is the Piggot Interlude shooting isn't it?
Length of truce time spent in training x multipliers, you just have to establish how long the truce was and how much of that she spent training
Rottweilers have a recomnded amount of exercise of 2 hours per day, which means that the three of them you get about 6 hours, assuming their stamina isn't enhanced by Bitches powers, the longest MMA fight lasted 90 minutes, Bitch would probably not last that long, so 1 hour tops
so about 7 hours of exercise, if you have memories protected from erasure you can double the overall time by training slightly different in the two timelines, since coil almost always has an extra timeline active, so you have to double that amount of time regardless but that is unreliable
this also depends on how her slime powers work for senses, she has 360º vision and is 20x faster so she is definitely getting way more info than normal in a 3D space like a fight, as the human cone of vision is 120º she has 3x the visual info from a fight, also Librarian + stone age otaku means that 100% of that time has been used efficiently, and she learned everything, so we can assume she learns 3x more per the same amount of time at the very least, not even counting she may experience time at 1/20th of regular speed
which is about 500fps on a camera
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qByF_57NuTA
again, I'm only counting a 3x boost in learning
time flies multiplies that by 5
one man industry multiplies the time by 10
7x2x3x5x10 we have...2100 hours, or about 262 days/ 8.6 months of training to the average person due to a lack of job and sleep intervals
at a minimal that is only 2 hours with bitch and the dogs, without any more timelines, with only the multipliers being counted and is 12.5 days
if she DOES experience the world at 20x speed this has been the equivalent of 5 years of training, about the same amount batman trained, though obviously of less quality
so between 2 weeks and almost 5 years, depending on what you want to count and what you are counting
also with the time perks she only sleeps 10 minutes per day, even if she wasn't a slime
at this point, you have to calculate how much older she is getting mentally, even if only by adding 30% of time due to her not sleeping
good job on dealing with hookwolf, metal is generally incredibly weak to acid, making Taylor one of the best people to deal with him since physical attacks mean nothing to her
Nazarickian Slimes don't have mental acceleration, even if Taylor's whole body was photosensitive it doesn't have the sort of precision granted by actual lenses and shit the way eyes have, Time Flies only works for her personal contribution to projects, and One Man Industry procs only for making shit and related actions.
If she was shadow-boxing or something I'd think that Time Flies could kick in, but she wasn't, so it probably wouldn't.
On the other hand though, between Librarian and Stone Age Otaku I think that she could get a bit more then just a times-three multiplier on learning; exceptional cross-referencing combined with perfect/automatic recognition of variation between actions, that's some Deep Learning type shit; I'd expect her to look like a NZT user within the overlap between those two Perks. Fully expect Taylor to kickbox someone's shit in at some point.
Of course there is also the possibility that the dog's enhancements give the dogs tremendous stamina, there is nothing on the worm wiki about them having enhanced strength, but this likely does apply
Well the shells they turn into are expendable, literally only ever being used once, so even if they don't have more stamina, which I would think that they would to some degree just by virtue of having more storage-space from taking out the resupply mechanism, they have
replaceable stamina.
Didn't seem to be what they were working on though.
