The Eldritch One (Celestial Forge)

Along with all of the "she's a parahuman" problems, she's also an UNDERAGE parahuman, which means Faultline effectively kidnapped a minor, off the street, in civies, using mind altering drugs.

Most capes, hero/villain/rogue, already look down on people who ignore the unwritten rules, but ones who do it to a minor, by drugging them? Ouch.

Attention Faultline and company: The boot currently approaching your position is falling from orbit, made out of titanium, and is about the size of a VW Bus. Good luck not getting stomped flat by EVERYBODY.

Faultline: We don't shit where we eat!
Also faultline: ACIDBURNS AND REGULAR BURNS EVERYWHERE!
deserved though, they went and caught a cape out of costume all they're getting is earned ten times over
Taylor just canonized their fanon of not shitting where they eat.
Y'know, if this is linked to the family of that money-doesn't-compensate-for-lack-of-brain-cells basdard, well.

I could see them making the 'completely understandable mistake' of failing to inform the parahuman mercenaries they are hiring to go after this one murderous teenager that said teenager is also a parahuman. Really, it's such a minor detail, it just slipped from their minds.

That would be the kind of shit where Faultline would be 1000% percent in the right to yeet them under the speeding oncoming train that is the collective anger of the entire cape community. Because this kind of shit is not tolerated.
Even if you overlook the 'target is actually a cape in civies' detail, which, uhh, Unwritten Rules and such, there's still the very minor fact that a teenage parahuman demands very different methods of containment than a teenage non-parahuman.

Would be fun to see Rich Assholes That Have Gotten Away With It For Too Long finally overreach and get badly mauled for it.
In the story, I mean.
Unfortunately they have Gang support so they would first have to negotiate non-interference/non-retaliation from The Elite, on the grounds of their protection being from the Fucking Around of others not the Finding Out of themselves, before getting poignant about their objections.

Titanium is actually lighter then iron.

Faultline's Crew is going to be having a very, very bad day, very soon.

They're already in the process of having a Very Bad Day. The Palanquin is on fire. Gregor's blinded at the least. Newter's probably dead along with Spitfire unless Labyrinth's [Demesne Control] actually transports them out of the fire and into the 'barbed wire hellscape' and Shamrock's the only one actually not in the building to tell Faultline about any of it when she gets back.

Why is Taylor so stupid in this? She completely fails to think about things or try to make anything. Is this really a celestial forge story? Not just this chapter, but the whole story has been a confused mess.

Stupid? What exactly would your reaction be to being a teenage girl waking up drugged in a bed after being approached by a creepy dude in a trench coat?

Burning the fucking place down is where I'd start. And not giving a shit about maiming? I'd melt a motherfuckers dick off.

Faultline: sits down in front of computer with a nice cup of coffee. Takes a sip. Looks at job request document. Opens a browser and navigates to Ask Jeeves. Types: "Taylor Hebert". Chokes on coffee. Leans out door.
"GUYS...I don't think we should take this job!"

Jk, probably the only thing in the news would be her involvement in party creep's death. And maybe not even that if the Richie riches had enough infosec and pull with authorities in the followup.

As for the general vibe of the comments, I kind of love that the forge has rolled about 17 ways for Taylor to accidentally murder someone and like 1 way to craft things IF SHE KNEW ABOUT IT.

That said, Taylor's decision making in this fic sucks. There's literally no reason for her to join the Undersiders when she knows they work for Coil who is actively trying to kill her, and doing so abandons Danny to Coil's tender mercies.

But Taylor's decision making in canon sucks as well, so I'm here for it.

It was a bit 0 to 100.

How is it that so many people reading this fail to understand that this is a crackfic?

Ya'll need to go like… read some of the old Ravensdagger fics or something to brush up. Because it's been clear to me from the beginning that this fic was borderline crack that occasionally edges into full-on crackfic.

Stupid? What exactly would your reaction be to being a teenage girl waking up drugged in a bed after being approached by a creepy dude in a trench coat?

Also, this, lmao. Going full lethal immediately upon waking up kidnapped in someone else's bed after being approached by a dude in a trenchcoat is pretty reasonable.

Did you know? In my state, even perceived sexual assault is legal justification to use deadly force to deal with an attacker.

The fact that they tried to stop Taylor from removing herself from the situation and even attacked her more than justifies her reaction.

Seeing as I really fucking hate Crack, knowing the author does not give a shit and reading this is a pointless waste of time would have been real nice beforehand. Crack just means the writer is not trying. No wonder this story is so low-effort. I don't know why I didn't see it before.

...You know thinking about it they might have mentioned that their son was a Parahuman at the time and that he was killed as a civilian completely neglecting the fact that he was trying to get into a fight with Parahuman abilities and then got scalped past the bone when his intended victim fought back.

She actually has, like, four crafting-assistance Perks: one Perk that she can't prevent from making stuff (though which she might be able to delegate to someone who can if a toddler or something stumbles over it), another Perk which supplies her with the parts needed to assemble vehicles out of, and a tool for automatically assembling things. I would honestly not be surprised if there were several vehicles being made and left just lying around where she left them that went completely unnoticed by her internal narrative.

The only reason why these Perks haven't already resulted in several things getting built is because this Taylor seems to solely possess sporadic agency, not "possess agency sporadically", and is capable only of being acted upon by external forces.

Did the Forge inflict brain damage on Taylor? She's infuriatingly stupid and thoughtless in this story.
Taylor got access to Coil's simulations in which she was able to experiment with the results of her actions without consequences as a form of decatastrophization therapy. As a consequence she's basically become Hermione deciding that if rules are going to be broken then they're going to be broken as hard as they can possibly break.

I'd enjoy that but the way it's written. She's basically Herpa derping through the story randomly when she does act.

I did not.

But I feel like "I woke up drugged in someone elses bed, and reacted" will get you a lot of leeway with the jury even if its not specifically a law.

I would not stop to check, I'd be taking whatever steps I could get GTFO, and if those steps includes peoples faces they should not have been standing so close.

Play stupid games win stupid prizes. Especially in a city with a gang known for sexual slavery.

That's only because it's written from a faux-first-person perspective that's actually a third-person perspective.

My favorite kind of fic is the crack fic, so I don't find a bit of silly to be anything to complain about either way.

Plus, Taylor is a socially maladjusted teenage girl who has a very poor grasp on what is going on, and it shows. She's what, 15 at start of Canon? I'd expect a bunch of basically flailing from one situation to the next until something forces her to reevaluate her circumstances.

She's a person not a Wacky Inflatable Tube Man.

Has anyone ever seen a fic where the MC just gets CF power with no explanation? Because that's what looks like is happening here.

Could the forge be broken because the Forgemaster is missing? And it randomly chose someone to give power to, without benefit of explanation, no notices of what new perks do? If so, that would certainly explain WHY Taylor is trying to suppress what she thinks are her parahuman abilities. She has no clue that it's going to keep happening, and that some of the changes are gonna be huge, and nigh impossible to cover up - like significant buffs to her appearance, or an aura of anything.

Hope she gets Toggle sooner than later, that would help immensely, but only IF she figures out how to use it since the forge seems to be skipping the "here's the deets" step.

Imposter Syndrome.

That doesn't explain why she's not investigating anything that's happening to her. This isn't doubt about an ability she knows she has but has doubts about how to use it, or how powerful it might be, what's been happening to her seems to be totally undefined in her mind. Oops, now I have mouths all over me, wtf? I'm a slime? How?

Either she's hard repressing knowledge about what the forge is giving her, or it's giving her items, skills and body changes without any notice. Only the author can tell us which it is, and that's all part of the unfolding story.

The story "Imposter Syndrome".
