It is. That fragility would not be the property that would be intended to be added to other materials. The magnificent sharpenability that knapped obsidian is known for is.
Edit: ideally it would in fact be combined with other materials and objects to make several well-shaped blades capable of holding their edge for long periods of time.
Edit: come to think of it I'm actually not sure whether obsidian even is prone to chipping; I know that crack-propagation through it is highly predictable, which is why it was used for knapping in the first place, but I'm not sure if those cracks were easy to make.
Regardless I also know that glasses like obsidian, or even regular glass (which can also be knapped by the way), are amorphous solids, meaning that they solidified without crystallizing, and that amorphous metals tend to be both highly flexible and highly resistant to deformation thus rendering them highly suitable as construction and/or tool materials.
Edit: obsidian would be ideal for combining with blades, because of that ultra-fine edge that forms when knapped, but any glass should be able to be combined with any metal to make amorphous metal which should be much stronger then other forms of metal.
Some Shape-Memory materials might also be interesting to combine with other objects; apparently it's not made out of particularly rare elements? I was actually rather surprised by that.
I wonder whether Taylor will modify her body to be electrogenic and electroreceptive and whatnot; it shouldn't be overly difficult.
That and whether she might get into photochemistry, photovoltaics, or their opposites chemiluminescence and chemivoltaics...Wait, no, the opposite of photovoltaics is electroluminescence; what chemivoltaics is the opposite of is electrochemistry.
Yeah I think that's about right; the conversion of light, chemical-energy, and electrical current/differential into each-other.
It might be a bit redundant to figure out how to convert electrical and light energy into each-other or chemical energy given the ability to convert chemical energy into them, due to Taylor's seemingly unlimited supply of it, but I feel like it would be a nice option to have; Taylor's supply of chemical-synthesizing energy might not be limitless and even if it is Taylor might benefit from supplementing it.
Edit: you need proton-exchange membranes for hydrogen fuel-cells, membranes which act as a go-between for hydrogen to bond to other molecules (ideally oxygen but others work) but only in the form of cationic hydrogen (just a proton) but there are a few kinds, Taylor can almost certainly synthesize a few, and once you have that you just need hydrogen and oxygen which Taylor can also make. That right there can produce chemivoltaic energy but Plentimaw recombination could probably also combine some of her slime with a electrogenic organism.
Edit: Photoelectrical energy would be a lot easier though; nanosheats of photovoltaic material, just thick or layered enough for a photovoltaic depletion-zone, should be very easy to visualize.
Edit: light-production is pretty easy to accomplish with either electrical currents, a la LED mechanisms, and chemical reactions, a la Luminol oxidization, so that covers light-production pretty easily.
Back to the topic of body-reinforcement, I bet that Taylor could reinforce her body pretty solidly by combining some feathers with nanotubes.
Edit: to clarify I bring up feathers because think that feathers would be easier to combine with something like nanotubes then something like scales would be.
Also apparently nanocellulose, literally just cellulose arranged on the nanoscale, can be transparent and stronger then steel and superabsorbent and whatnot depending on molecular arrangement? Apparently non-toxic as well in contrast to other nanomaterials kind of, you know, are toxic.
Actually, thinking about it, nanocellulose seems like it would be easier for Taylor to assemble then conventional cellulose; no macrostructure to worry about.
It's basically no different from a trained cop visually checking every person they pass for any guns they might have, then asking for licenses for any he spots. Or a fucking metal detector, where pinging it will get you pulled to the side and checked more extensively no matter what you have to say about it, if you will.
Because this is Earth Bet. Security paranoia on or past max post-9-11 levels is the norm. Because Masters are a thing. And Changers, and Strangers, and Tinkers or Thinkers with appropriate specialties.
'Trust but Verify Extensively' if the absolute minimum I would expect the PRT to practice.
And in a city like BB? Such naive idealism has no place there.
I'd compare it to having a directional mike aimed at your home and your private conversations recorded as those examples aren't ones with expectations of privacy.
Their point is Dean isn't misbehaving as an individual bad apple but that the entire PRT is a bad bushel.
"So what did you do about having to give them your clothes?" Asks Tattletale.
"I stuffed all my clothes into my pants, and then into a biohazard bag that they burned. I was a little bit nervous about it at first, but they had a portable incinerator that they set up in the street while I was inside. No chance of them snooping through my stuff to find out I was exposed worse than they thought I was."
"That's good. Anything else?"
"Well they had this decontamination shower that they also set up that everybody had to go through, Panacea included. She checked everybody over again after that, and we got these plain white clothes. But I wanted to ask. How was the PRT so prepared for something like this when, uh-"
"They're pretty fucking useless otherwise?" I nod my head. I don't want to be unfair to them, but let's just say it's hard to be fair to them having grown up here. "Well that's because the Director had some skewed priorities when she got her posting. Focussed a bit too much on existential threats when she took office ten years ago. Now being prepared for all that is good planning and all, but all the supplies for this took up valuable space. Space that could've been turned into training grounds, be used for other supplies, etcetera. Really threw off their game. Though that's only one of the reasons this town is so shit." She grumbles out.
"Hey! You done talking all that depressing shit?" Calls out Alec from the couch. "I have a game to play here."
"Hell no! And put a shirt on you fucking weirdo." He ignores her with an ease only gained from practice. I decide to cut through the irritation I see bubbling to the surface.
"Hey, let's not argue here. Hey, how about we go shopping for a knick knack at the boardwalk." She looks back to me.
"Don't think I don't see what you're doing here. Honestly, how can you stand him? You know he wants to-"
"I am well aware of what he wants to do to me." Not like he doesn't proposition me every other night. "You are stressed and staying here isn't helping. Even if we don't end up buying anything a casual walk will do you good."
"Sure." She grumbles
It's Saturday morning right now, and a half hour after we left we made it to the boardwalk. Probably going to eat some overpriced food come lunchtime and then head back. In fact I see a nice painted seashell store-
"Hey Miss?" And I really want- a hand grabs my shoulder. "Miss I'm going to have to ask you to leave." We both freeze in our tracks and turn around to look at the security guard. One of the boardwalk enforcers. Relatively heavy armored and packing a tazer.
"What?" I ask.
"The boardwalk is unfortunately closed to violent parahumans. I'm going to have to ask you to leave." My heart skips a beat at the absolute declaration that I'm a parahuman. Fortunately Lisa has enough presence of mind to respond in my stead.
"What the fuck!! Since when has anybody been saying that?!"
"I don't know ma'am, we just got a company wide email about her last night. I'm sorry."
"Gonna be fucking sorry once I'm done with you." She mumbles as she turns around.
"What was that?"
"Nothing! Come on Taylor, we certainly won't be spending our money here." I snap out of my stupor and walk after her. Once we're a couple blocks away she takes out her phone, dials a number, and sets it to speaker phone.
"Yes Tattletale?"
"Yo boss, you fucking the team over?" There's a pause.
"...Not to my knowledge. Why, what happened? And what's going on with the sound quality?"
"I'm not a technician boss, I don't control our shitty cell service. One of the Boardwalk enforcers just turned Taylor away for being a 'violent' parahuman, and I know you have contacts with every mercenary outfit in town. Did you do this?"
He sighs heavily. "No. Despite what you may believe Tattletale I am not the architect of your every misfortune."
*Click*
"Was he telling the truth?" I ask.
"Yyeeess." She drags out of herself. "Which means somebody else is pulling the strings here. Somebody who knows your parahuman status. Unfortunately, given the state of the local PRT communication network, that could be literally anybody who matters." I make a face at that.
"So what now?"
"Now we call a team meeting."
A few hours later we have everybody gathered at the kitchen and all filled in.
"Any questions?"
"Yeah." From Brian. "This seems a little too personal to be safe. You sure this won't affect our secret identities?"
"Positive. As far as everybody in town is concerned this is just gonna be another Undersiders heist. Routine shit."
"I got a question." From Bitch. "Why are we taking orders from the skinny wimp?"
"Because I am a petty vindictive bitch, no offense, and this job will make us around twenty grand. Do we wanna do this?" As she raises her hand. Bitch raises her hand too.
"Are we going to find out why I'm not allowed in the Boardwalk anymore?"
"Of course." Tattletale smarms at me. "I'd like to go after everybody responsible if at all possible." I raise my hand too.
"Excellent. Here's the plan..." All in all not the most complicated of plans. At least not by heist movie standards. Most of the cash from the weekend business in the boardwalk is stored in an onsite Enforcer safehouse until the banks open on Monday. Lisa and Alec are gonna pickpocket a key card from one one of the enforcers in plain clothes when they can still get lost in the crowd Sunday afternoon. Couple hours later after sunset when a good portion of the pedestrians are away, we hit the storage area. Steal everything in the vault and Lisa uploads a worm into their computer systems and we're out. Should be in and out in under 7 minutes with law enforcement completely unaware of us for four of them. Hopefully these butterflies in my... torso don't get any bigger than they already are.
"You feeling up to this still?" Asks Lisa. Their end of the operation went off without a hitch. Now it's my turn. I harden my resolve.
"Yeah I'm good. Give me a boost Grue." He nods and lifts me up to the fire escape. I climb the rest of the way as quietly as this creaking piece of crap allows. Luckily I don't think anybody saw me. Once I get up to the roof I start moving towards the security building. Heh. Even in Brockton Bay nobody ever bothers looking up.
I'm doing this to drop down into the alley way where the door is to bypass the security cameras they have up. That part of the plan goes without a hitch. Then I open the door with the key card, slap some tape on the latch to keep it from closing, and slip inside. I come face to face with two enforcers. One of them is filling up a little water cup. It overflows.
"CA-" I spring into action to shut him up. First I sling a tendril of slime onto their mouths, and then I move it around their necks to cut off their blood flow. Once they're unconscious I move on to the security room. There are three people in here this time. I prioritize the ones Lisa drilled me on. The ones most likely to be right next to the silent alarms. Though apparently I focussed a bit too much on them because
*BZZZT*
Fuck me, ow, what was that?! I move to get up only for
*BZZZT*
To happen again. Oh. A Taser.
"What the hell Jenkins! The fuck is this?!" And apparently that let them loose from my slime too, because the others are free now.
"I have no idea. I'm calling the PRT though. I don't get paid enough for this shite." No, not now! The plan was coming together too. I freeze as I see the rest of the Undersiders on the cameras. Nobody else saw them because they're all looking at me. "Did it move again? Fuck it, I'm not taking any chances." Plan in mind I dodge the taser at my top speed. I flow up and move for the asshole tasing me
*BZZZT*
Only for him to tase both of us as I put as much of my slime in contact with his skin as possible. Haha, bitch! Apparently I'm conductive. Still hurts, but he drops his taser almost immediately. I destroy his walkie, then disarm and do the same for the one going for the phone, then the last one. All at top speed. I may have been overthinking things here. Oh well. Good thing the door closed while they were gawking at me. I'd hate for there to be any surprise assholes I didn't see the first time around to hear these guys scream.
My teammates came in as I was organizing all the bodies on the floor. Not much else for me to do until Tattletale gets here. Regent screws around with the security cameras when he gets here, the asshole. He's costing us time!
"Ho-ho-ly shit Taylor, you're terrifying!" I glare at him with the apathy of a thousand black holes. "What?"
This story feels a bit disjointed, like we're checking off boxes and not reading an actual story if that makes sense? Things just keep happening at the MC and then the MC reacts, not much actual progression or agency here.

"So your idea of sound decision making is to go up to a so-called 'violent parahuman' and antagonize her while she's out trying to have a relaxing day out shopping? What's your name so I can submit you to the Darwin Award committee for an honorable mention?"
"Not like he doesn't proposition me every other night" Only every other night? He must be giving up
"Despite what you may believe Tattletale I am not the architect of your every misfortune." Only 90% of them.
Honestly, I think the "violent parahuman" thing is just the family of the rich rapist trying to make her life hard, and that they don't particularly care if she's actually a parahuman, or how justified she was in defending herself.
If she gets useful stuff but doesn't know what it is, how useful is it? Most celestial forge stories by this point would have at least halfway decent crafting skills, but all she really has is a bunch of obscure support skills that could apply to various forms of crafting, but no actual crafting. It's like being a computer genius with no computer access.
Not that I am complaining about the story persay, just saying why it is so odd for a Celestial forge story.
o-okay? the boardwalk bit seems like a bit much. I don't think the PRT would do something like that, it would just alienate taylor and thats a bit much, it's not like she's a straight up villain. Also i think i agree with some of the comments here. If you're just going to focus on taylor getting obscure powers then there's really no point in titling it a celestial forge fic. Might as well go original cause at this point it feels like false advertising.

Everybody who was at the party knows the disease cape went after Taylor, and that would include whatever rich family the guy came from. I think this is probably the result of his parents trying to ruin Taylor's life because she killed their son.
It's understandable that they'd want to do that, even if it was entirely justified on Taylor's part.

It might be less effective then something like Fibroin, a structural, non-sticky, component of silk, but it would also be a lot simpler then it, and a bit more simple then Cellulose, and less carcinogenic then nanomaterials like Nanotubes.
Bro's somehow simultaneously getting payed nowhere near enough and way too much if he's dumb enough to walk up to what he's been told to call "violent Parahumans" and act like this much of a shitheel.
"Nothing! Come on Taylor, we certainly won't be spending our money here." I snap out of my stupor and walk after her. Once we're a couple blocks away she takes out her phone, dials a number, and sets it to speaker phone.
Well there's certainly other places to enjoy retail therapy, purchase other shit, or enjoy other shit...I wonder whether they could take a road-trip; Taylor apparently has the parts for a vehicle.

Well I wouldn't be too sure about that but contrariwise I'm sure that anyone who makes the connection can be convinced to stop making that sort of connection.
"I got a question." From Bitch. "Why are we taking orders from the skinny wimp?"
"Because I am a petty vindictive bitch, no offense, and this job will make us around twenty grand. Do we wanna do this?" As she raises her hand. Bitch raises her hand too.
Which skinny wimp is Rachel talking about? Taylor or Lisa? Because Taylor bodied her ass.
Also yeah I would think that she'd be interested in the funding. I wonder whether Taylor could just hire her to do shit for her using money from sales or thefts; between amorphism and the Warehouse Taylor should be capable of running off with most of the contents of a poor bastard's house.
"Are we going to find out why I'm not allowed in the Boardwalk anymore?"
"Of course." Tattletale smarms at me. "I'd like to go after everybody responsible if at all possible." I raise my hand too.

Not a bad plan. It seems like it might be possible to expedite the process in a few ways, taking advantage of the resident Brute/Changer/Striker to bypass a few protections and/or barriers, but it's definitely decent as long as you have the skills to Pockpocket access-devices like that.
"Yeah I'm good. Give me a boost Grue." He nods and lifts me up to the fire escape. I climb the rest of the way as quietly as this creaking piece of crap allows. Luckily I don't think anybody saw me.
Taylor really needs to adapt to being a Slime; I bet that she could have gotten a grip on the bricks of the wall, or suction-cupped her way up the wall or something, and bypassed creaky shit entirely.

Sleeper-holds generally only keep a person down for a few moments; long enough to put some restraints onto them but not long enough that you can just ignore them.

Definitely going to have to get some insulators and/or conductors to prevent electricity from using her as a circuit...I personally recommend Carbon or Silicon nanofoams; they tend to be ridiculously light-weight.
Now conductors are a entirely different question; there are a good variety of low-resistance materials but if you wanted the best you would want to take some low-temperature superconductors, things like Niobium-alloys or alkali-metal-doped Carbon-nanotubes, and to then either combine them via Plentimaw mouths with Semiconductors, which actually become more conductive at higher temperatures and would thus presumably make Plentimaw-combined materials made using it and Superconductors achieve Superconductivity at high temperatures, or chill them to the point of Superconductivity and either keep them chilled or Plentimaw-combine them with another material while they're in that state and hope that the resultant material keeps that Superconductivity despite the heat.
There is also, of course, also the option of just adapting her Slime physiology to be able to tolerate electrical currents, functioning off of mechanisms that wouldn't be disrupted by them, or even managing to harness it in some ways but the former seems like it could be difficult and have side-effects while the latter seems like it could risk being overloaded; the former would presumably require redundancy while the latter would presumably require surge-protection and both would presumably benefit from high-grade insulators and conductors to function.
Only for him to tase both of us as I put as much of my slime in contact with his skin as possible. Haha, bitch! Apparently I'm conductive. Still hurts, but he drops his taser almost immediately.

I noticed it during the taser scene; Optimal Robotics doesn't seem to write from a very internal POV, doesn't do things like write sensations or beliefs, when they write.
Also it's sometimes tricky to distinguish who's speaking; that could use a bit more rigor.
No I don't think that it's that; I'm sure that it would be possible to write a interesting story, one with a interesting character-driven internal narrative, about someone with "merely" superhuman physical capabilities; things like the feel of surfaces as they practiced and memorized the feeling of leaping specific distances without overshooting them.
I kind of wish that it subtly popped up in the course of every-day activities; I would have expected something like for her to have tried making a meal at some point and ending up with ridiculous amount of ingredient-preparation done in a ridiculously short amount of time. Possibly for it to all cook abnormally quickly.
With her enhanced research/memory-recall/organization Perk and her production-rate-multipliers I would think that she could probably write out things like lists a lot faster.

It's a bit of a stretch but when you say it like that I suppose that it is somewhat believable. Especially if there's already rumors of her being a Parahuman. Still kind of odd though.
Attempted murderer then. I don't doubt that he would have raped her if he'd gotten the opportunity, but it didn't sound like he had enough control of his power for that to be a real possibility.

Is the rich family of harasser guy going to find out what happens when you try to involve yourself in parahuman matters? Going around, and saying stuff about a 'violent parahuman' doesn't bode well for ordinary people. FAFO.

I feel like the best way to retaliate would be to accuse them, at least one of them, of being a Parahuman; Second-Generation Parahumans Trigger more easily then First-Generation ones after all.
He was humiliated and suddenly gained powers over others, there is always a chance that people in that situation go for a "display of dominance" in one form or another (e.g. beatings, humiliation in turn, rape, social ruin etc.).
Judging the fact that the instruction went to the enforcer through their official boss, the nature of the message ("violent parahuman"), the absence of recruitment and the fact that Coil did not know anything about it, I would say that this is not coming from the gangs.
Instead, Taylor technically killed (in self-defense) someone recently, who is rich (to be invited at Dean's party) and who got killed in a mysterious way.
So, my guess is that is it a stupid revenge plot from that guy parents, that learned that their "poor boy" got killed by a "dangerous parahuman", failed to make the PRT act, thus try to get to Taylor using another way.
(it's just a shame they did not know about the unwriting rules... until someone gives them the lesson in a probably unpleasant way)

While that was my initial suspicion, it's also possible this is a roundabout way to pressure her into the E88. They make her life difficult in ways not easily traced to them, then 'solve' the problems they created for her.
They have the resources and connections to do this, what with being in charge of Medhall and all, and I seem to remember something about the boardwalk and the Enforcers having a connection to them. That last part may be me misremembering fanon, but it still feels like a possible alternate explanation.

They might have done something to that effect, and I do vaguely think that I remember something to the effect of them being connected that way (they're both in the same territory using the same population), but they already violated some Unwritten Rules in the past and are still bearing the stain of it; it's doubtful that they'd be willing to try this shit again.
It's a shame that Melanin is a family of such complex molecules if they did though; Taylor would have trouble synthesizing that into their skin. Though, thinking about it, I guess that Taylor could theoretically use a external source of it instead use a external source like squid-ink.
Edit: do you think that if Taylor Plentimaw-combined some dehydrated foods with Superabsorbent Materials she could rehydrate them into massive amounts of food? Because that might just solve Rachel's dog-feeding issue.

Edit: I wonder what something like a Prince Rupert's Drop would Plentimaw-combine with other things to produce.
Edit: it might be funny to see Taylor combine a can of drink with a diamond or something in order to get herself a transparent drink-can.
Glass or something could also work but I figure that a diamond would be more conveniently on-hand for Taylor.
Edit: could probably also Plentimaw-combine a can or bag or something of drink, possibly even just a water-bottle or something, with a piece of fruit to make a fruit-drink; would probable be delightful.
Edit: could probably also turn bottles and cans into metal drink-bottles. Transparent metal drink-bottles at that; they'd be pretty high-quality.
Edit: further realization about turning things transparent: Taylor could probably Plentimaw-Combine things with air by reverse-burping to give them the same optical properties as air to turn them invisible; that should produce a similar effect to when you put those specific polymers into water and they turn invisible.
Unfortunately air has different optical properties at different temperatures, which is why you get that wild semi-random lensing effect that makes air shimmer, so each optical-property adjustment would only make something invisible in the same atmosphere that was used in that specific adjustment.
You could probably make it dynamic, giving the object the same set of optical properties as air would be under any given thermal condition, but it would probably have different thermal conductivity then air and messing with the thermal conductivity of most things would probably have knock-on effects.
Speaking of Taylor having near-arbitrary access to diamonds I wonder if she might want to turn corpses into diamonds at some point; there are funerary services for doing so after all...Actually, come to think of it, she could probably apply her work-acceleration to dissolving things as long as she does it as a step in the process of making something couldn't she?
Yeah it makes sense that Taylor should be capable of dissolving things, like corpses, a lot faster if she makes something, like a diamond, in the process or as a result of dissolving them.
Edit: thinking about it further I suppose that Taylor could also merely make air out of them? Or graphite or something? I don't think that she can make much air out of carbon...I suppose that carbon-dioxide is a type of air but I can't see Taylor wanting to make a whole bunch of it anywhere inhabited. Not unless she was trying to take down Lung or some other Brute or something.
Edit: you know I bet that if Taylor combined some of her Slime-body's slime with a incredibly dense material and some of her Slime-body's other slime with a incredibly sparse material she could use them as a heat-pump by eating each variety of slime with the other to densify and sparsify the heated and cooled slime respectively.
To clarify this explanation for people who don't understand heat-pumps, materials tends to get colder the less dense they are, which is why compressed air tends to freeze things, and hotter the more dense it is, which I unfortunately don't have a example of, so by densifying a material in one area you can usually make it release heat there and by sparsifying it in another you can make it soak up heat there.
To be more specific when materials densify or sparsify the same thermal energy carried by it gets spread across more volume and, since thermal energy distributes itself based on volume rather then mass, that means that you can carry it around in sparse materials from one place and wring it out, by densifying it, into another the same way that you would soak up water from one place in a sponge and wring it out in another.
