Conversely, while the police are a violent and nasty brute squad, if they come upon the thieves already restrained and disarmed, incapable of putting up a fight, they are probably not going to do anything that permanent to the thieves besides "arrest them," which they were going to do anyway, especially if they're smart enough to follow commonsense advice. The police do all kinds of heinous shit to thousands of people every year, but they arrest millions of people every year, so while the odds are a hell of a lot worse than they ought to be, this isn't a deterministic case of "if we abandon them tied up they'll totally get shot in the head" or something.

Plus, if they're taking civilian hostages, they're already about as morally bad as, like, Worst Police. This is some charcoal grey on charcoal grey morality we've got here.
In before the police offers to let them go on a Plea deal if they testify against Arachne.

[X] Take their guns and let them escape out the back.

As much as webbing them with legal advise sounds good, we know that in this New York the cops are... not exactly good role models to put it mildly. Besides as Spider-Liv or the Anarcho-Communist Spider Girl we have an expertise in solving complex problems with basic solutions.

Besides these aren't exactly criminal masterminds, maybe we remind them that next time the NYPD might arrive first and they're still mad from the Stark Incident.

No point; they already have the testimony of various officers Arachne's assaulted or interfered with. Making those charges stick would be a lot easier than trying to pin the robbery on Arachne or whatever.
For the legal system, sure. For public opinion, telling the public she's aiding with drugs is an accusation that covers many sins.

[X] Give them legal advice, leave them and their guns webbed up for the cops.

Okay, the hostages wasn't clear and notably changes the situation. Fuck these guys.

Armed robbery with hostages? Yeah, fuck these guys. Like, it's not great that they're going to be subjected to the American legal system, but armed robbery with hostages.

Per comic book tradition, this will get uncle Ben killed. In order to get him killed, we have to meet him, QED, this option leads us to meet uncle Ben.
Don't we already know Ben, or at least this AU's version of him? May's ex-boyfriend? He and Liv didn't get off on a great foot, but wishing death on him seems a tad extreme.

Approval voting, there's no amount of legal advice that will help them at this point but we absolutely cannot aid and abet with witnesses.

Mind you, I would like to know where they got submachine guns. Even in the US they're not that easy to get hold of. Are these guys a big deal, is someone backing them or are they just dumb and lucky?

among the ways that the US here has backslid to an earlier era of violent crime is cheap wartime guns flooding the street. these ones were likely converted to semi-auto and dumped to the consumer market, and may or may not have been converted back.

Nope. Ben Reilly, originally clone of Peter Parker, nothing to do with Uncle Ben whatsoever. I mean, lol, in this quest he is obviously an allusion to him, same as May Mayday Parker to Aunt May, but certainly not Peter's uncle or anything.

( since it looks like Peter Parker is May's dad, you know. And obviously the final boss in an ironic reversal of his original comic book role. )

Have we ever met Peter? I assume he's still the Goodest Cookie but I can't recall outright interacting with him much.

The only thing we know about him is that he keeps pushing his daughter to get a Business degree, which is honestly not that bad of an advice, and that May thought that telling her parents about her transgender girlfriend will be awful for everyone involved. I mean, she could be wrong, but, well.

'lawyer lawyer lawyer' is important legal advice!

"REmember, the only word you know is lawyer."

"Right, so-'

"Nope! Lawyer!"

"But-"

"Lawyer!!!"

"...lawyer?"

"Now you're getting it!"

This isn't because of her transness, its because he's noted to be super protective and they were weird about Ben.

It'd be interesting to see whether Liv ends up with a reputation for where she draws the line on when something is out of her ability to fix and is better left to the system. I wonder whether it'd be enough to impact the way people breaking the law, especially career criminals, operate in her territory. If not bringing a gun to something like this, or only bringing a fake one is enough for her to let you go with a warning, it might become the new way things are done.
