Tangled Fate [Ranma 1/2 / Exalted]

... isn't Exalted the game that pretty much made the re-purposed phrase: "There's A Charm For That"?
Yes, but that's more of a second edition thing. And the closest Solar charms get to shapeshifting is either technically just a really good disguise, or copying other splats' charms.

Sorcery or the right Hearthstone will be a lot better for this particular problem. And it makes a good excuse to get Ranma into sorcery despite it just being a source of more bullshit in his life before.

While amusing, I DON'T want to go too far on this topic. It's just my little joke, and I don't want to make any readers or authors/beta readers uncomfortable.

Seriously, I don't expect that to come up in story. I'm genuinely enjoying the mostly serious nature of this ISOT and Exaltation, and look forward to seeing how all of this pans out.

But that doesn't mean there shouldn't be Lulz, even relationship and ecchi Lulz. This is RANMA, we wouldn't be fans if we didn't find that somewhat amusing. Adding Exalted power levels should only increase the Shenanigans when they happen. Everything in it's place, you know. Lulz should have a place.

To segway into both serious and Lulz on this topic, one has to imagine that Realm views on homosexual relationships and gender identity will provide both an amusing hurdle for Ranma and company, as well as some clash with the local Imported Japanese population, which might not have the best views of that.

Or the Wrecking Crew's views on OTHER Realm policies and social structure. Like, you know, all the slavery and elitism of the Dragon-Blooded?

Food for thought.

As a final comment on the 'Setting up Gunpowder/Does Gunpowder work in creation?' discussion...

Well, I'm near-certain that I've already made a lengthy post earlier in this thread about that when it last came up. But to make a short version...

For all we know, Gunpowder weapons have been invented and used before in Creation. It's just back when they were, they were never particularly great compared to the short of artefacts that Dragonblooded and Solars can make, especially when you consider that back then, most armies were almost certainly majority Dragonblooded. Or at least, enough were that any mortals where literally only for filler, chaff, 'cannon' fodder and living bodies to be used to flush out the enemies dangerous AoE attacks.

So making them in an industrial fashion never happened, which meant that the improvements that lead to practical breach-loading rifles never happened as more than an 'exotic' toy for a master craftsman, One of. Of course, these days there's a lot more mortals used as the actual forces of an army, but there's been two major apocalypses since then. Or three if it was a Solar that came up with the guns and the Shogunate didn't bother investigating it. And people already know of Firedust and similar alchemical 'dusts' that have similar effects to gunpowder... Well, except for the whole 'explodes when contained'. So it's quite possible there's extensive research into guns and gunpowder buried in a ruin somewhere, or destroyed in one of the apocalypses, and whenever someone digs it up, they toss it out as 'clearly an inferior version of ___ alchemical product' or 'Must have been the results of a failed alchemical experiment'.

You have to remember that early blackpowder wasn't particularly great at anything. It was just marginally better than the alternatives. And Creation has better alternatives, or at least, better alternatives for most of the things, and people thus discount the remaining uses that don't have alternatives, because gunpowder isn't in widespread use enough that making large-scale use of something as annoying, fiddly and dangerous to produce and keep effective as early blackpowder sounds like a smart idea.

Or simplified:

Blackpowder has let's say, 12 uses where it's pretty good.
Real Life didn't have anything else that was better for let's say, 10 of those uses. So people put in the effort needed to ensure there was enough blackpowder that there would be some of it for each use, which was very expensive, but cheaper due to the scale of production and distribution involved.
Creation however has better alternatives for let's say 8 of those uses, so there's only four remaining uses without alternatives. However, Creation has something that means three of those uses aren't needed as much as in Real Life. So there's one use remaining, but everyone looks at that one use and the production costs for the facilities to produce gunpowder and use it on the scale needed for any effect and immediately goes 'Screw this! WAIY too expensive for such marginal use. Would be cheaper just to triple what we currently have. And we don't need any retraining to use what we currently have as well...'

Then... We could be soon seeing some homemade outrageous Martial Arts there...

After all, one remembers with emotion such pearls as Martial Art Dining, Martial Art Tea Ceremony, Martial Art Cheerleading, Martial Art Takeout, Martial Art Calligraphy and so on...

Hey, even now we have the Martial Art Gymnastic with Kodachi... Wonder if our Kitsune didn't prepare some personal charms...

I could make a list long as my arm about the homemade martial arts created on the Exalted forums, even the scroll of the Monk is full of official styles.

As for Takashi-type sexual innuendo, well... Ranma, as Castellan, will have political mariage propositions in the future. Most exalts will assume Ryoga is her Lunar mate (their current relationship is at first gaze typical of such a couple in this era, bejammin2000 reminded us of the current lead couple of Lilith and Swan). The most prudish Dragon-blooded have an extensive vision of what is proper about sex. Let us not think about what will happen when Ranma encounter her first Neomah. There is also the visions that her exaltation will provide in her dreams about her past lives...

Still, Ranma is a proud individual capable of adapting (there is also the numerous times he played his "girl side" to the hilt for something he wanted or needed to protect) so i can see that exposure as a good thing. He'll become a better individual as Creation WILL make him grow in character.

As for the view on Slavery, i remind everyone that there is currently NO organizations devoted to free the slaves. Only a few individuals such as the Lunar Strength of Many. Ranma and co will also take a dim view of the drug trade. Still, i can see Kodachi pointing to the necessity and reach of the Guild in the current situation but, yes, they'll do something about this even sporadically.

But Lilith wants nothing more then to kill and eat Swan because she's incapable of seeing him as anything other then Desus.

An Exalt is not their past life, that's what Lytek does, trim the dross away before sending them out.

It's also why Abyssals and GSPs have access to the Past Life background. The Yozi and Neverborn don't care.

As Swan said to his Sifu about his "wife": "It's complicated."

And Lytek does choose some remarkable memories from their past lives... I still wonder what criteria he uses.

I suspect that Lytek's normal criteria is probably (when not in a war against the Primordials, or dealing with a bunch of new Solars that need to deal with the Super-power of the time greatly desiring to kill them off as soon as possible) enough that the Solar can figure out most of how things such as being a Solar Exalted by themselves, without the help of others. But not so much they become their previous life, or are even greatly influenced towards the behaviour of their previous life.

During the Primordial War it was most likely a lot more, so that the New Solar didn't keep on getting wiped out, but had the ability to actually get to a group of older Solars and start learning the more complicated Charms and abilities so they can return to the fight.

These days, it's probably enough to ensure that the first Wyld Hunt that discovers the Solar doesn't kill them, and then enough insight that the Solar does not need to relearn the more complicated and higher-essence abilities from scratch, if they don't manage to find someone who can teach them.

Or even just to hang out with Akane.

Ranma has a habit of using whichever form is more "socially acceptable" for whatever he happens to want to do at the moment.

... Which is probably something to explore if he's locked for a while. Ranma is very clearly subject to social pressures, for all that he can be very rebellious and rude. How's he going to react to not having his usual escape valves? For that matter, even once he's no longer locked, he's now high enough profile that he'll be reacted to specifically as Ranma, whatever form he's taking.

I mean, barring intentionally keeping forms segregated, but that has its own messy implications.

... WOO! They've got a Dragonblood gunsmith! if they survive and get the resources, guns may be more of a thing! Heck, they might even get ammunition for the tank and artillery pieces!

Okay, I'm not a stat-junkie, and I don't expect a modern army to have THAT much of an advantage over the bullshit that is Creation... but damn if it won't help, and if it won't be fun the first few times they get deployed.

Awesome profile, looks like reloads and spare parts might be a possibility in the future. Out of curisioty, will we see Ryoga's profile any time soon? Or is it being kept hidden for plot related reasons?

Doesn't help that Lunar's are different in every edition. Maybe check out one of the Fan-splats for Lunars for 3rd Edition? I mean I know you want to keep this close to well...'default Exalted 3rd' but well its going to be a year at the low end until we see the Lunar Manuscript, and Lunar's are meant to be very different between 2nd and Third Edition, if only in 'what they do' or 'where they are '.

If she really known her polymer science, that will not be an obstacle. There are ways around that in real life. The Exalted setting will have those too. Though they will no doubt need some work.

Fuck me things just got a whole lot easier. Actually is there even oil in creation?

Yes there is.

For one, Oil is an Autochtonian Element, so there's likely traces of it scattered through Creation still. If there isn't, oily substances are still a thing in Creation simply because most of the flora and fauna are earthlike and produce natural oils. These will need processing to either become useful crude oil or biodegradable plastics, but it's very possible.

Whelp, Greyfalls has their science-specced Exalted.
Nerima residents AKA bat***martial artists: "HERESY! This state of affairs Will Not Stand!":rage:
Emily: "I'm an American, can't I just shoot stuff?":wtf:
Ranma: No, but I'll start you with the absoute basics in order to ease into things. Now punch this river in half."

Maybe, maybe not; but bioplastics are a thing. And I'm willing to bet that there are more than enough local (and cultivatable) plants that can fit the bill while Exalted BS fills in the cracks.

It's Caste, which means the same really.
Ah, missed that it was there, otherwise I wouldn't have said anything.

At least until they hear about Creation's equivalent of Gun-Fu.

I need to check on this thread more often, because in the Hearts of Iron thread a point was made (by jwolf even I think). In GuP tankery is a Martial Art. With all the crazy shit that comes implied with that packaging.

So, Ride/Tank based Exalted Martial Art now. I'm kind of wondering if we could come up with a custom one for it, they do have some motorized vehicles and a tank in this story, though I have no idea where to start on such a thing. Probably some Charm that let's each crew-member apply their relative stat (like Drivers and Dodge) in place of whatever the tank would normally have?

Random Wyld Hunt member: "Ha! We got you now! Surrender and you'll die painlessly, Anathema!"

The "Anathema" in question: "Glorious Solar Tank!"

RWHM: "Glorious what..? WHAT THE..!?"

The author (on vacation in Creation): "Why are they so surprised? They know some sorcery can summon whole warstriders, don't they?"

Wyld Hunt Members as the tank fired in their ranks and rolled over them: "Various screamings!"
