SV's 10x10: Celebrating one hundred great threads across a decade

I'm going to have so much stuff to read once this is over.

At least I won't be bored!

Hint: Men have yet to be proven to exist in this setting.

On the Road to Elspar [Book 1] (Dryad Mercenary Schoolgirl Quest) Original - Fantasy

The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran...

For posterity, the clue was: Men have yet to be proven to exist in this setting.

Clearly this factor was well-known regarding the quest, though this is the first I've ever heard of it. I'll have to give it a read.

i continue to be unable to beat the allegations

Holy smokes, Practice War was 2016? Feels like it was more recent. I guess since I did a refresh read with Secrets Crusade? Also, some great blasts from the past here - Hedge Maze actually prompted my very first post on SV, and most of my early posts were in that, Marked for Death, Destiny of Strife, and Sword Without a Hilt.

Well, predictions for the last one? I feel like it might be We Stand in Awe..., The Gardens of Enoch, or Shed Skin. They all shook the earth in their heyday. Though credit where it's due, I wouldn't be surprised to see Mage Trials- Crucible, or Ten Pounds of Gold: A Pro Wrestling Quest either.

Good god... how do you people solve these things so fast!?

*edit* And how does that qualify for a 2016 story? It says it came out in 2020... I guess I'm missing something?
The thread mark stuff at the top of a thread marks when the system was created and rolled out since older threads had to be grandfathered in. TBG started September 15th, 2016 as noted by the date on the OP.

System sheniganry is likely the cause for the 2020 bit; similarly to why its summary banner bit shows it was created 2019. But the thread was created by the author in 2016.

edit: Ninja'd by the illustrious author

I cheated, honestly. I knew TBG would have to be on the list, it was one of the most active and long-running quests on this site. I also noticed they seem to be releasing in order of first post, so when I saw Practice War which was on Sept 5 2016, I figured that the next one would be To Boldy Go on September 15th. So I had this page in one tab, Practice War in a 2nd, and TBG in a third. I had the link already in the text box, waited for the hint, didn't even read it, took two seconds to check TBG, and then hit post. And I still lost!

So this is why insider trading is illegal... Heh, hopefully once 2017/2018 roll around I'll have a chance like this!

I never threadmarked the OP until 2020, but the thread went up in 2016.
Oneiros I love you.

I'd been camping the thread since yesterday... Noted the time remaining time on the clue, wrote up the post and only refreshed the TBG thread to check before hitting send. I figured if anyone had to post TBG it'd have to be someone from the old crew.

Glad I lost to someone else who loved that quest. I just checked out of curiosity and I have almost 2000 posts in that thread. @OneirosTheWriter Thanks for such a good time. There's no other quest quite like it out there, and when I think about how much work it took, I understand why.

TBF I was getting ready for a re-read of Noblesse Oblige when the hint dropped, thus i waited for my keyboard to wake up then bam.

The clue for the next thread is: It's not hubris if you're right.

We Stand in Awe... (Bleach Quest)

We Stand in Awe... A Bleach Quest The dead do not rest easily. When a mortal human dies...

Knew it was gonna get in the list. And as they say... Hubris is a coward's word!

Another quickdraw. I think we all knew this thread was coming, though.
I imagine it was difficult to come up with the list, but with the trend that each one goes by date posted in the year, it was only this or a handful of others, and this quest is I think what codified the tags and jokes about hubris on the forum.

Though I will say that it could still easily have ended up being Mazrick's Mage Trials- Crucible, which was also incredibly popular and did have some imitator quests spring up based on it.

My personal score for today at 'How much can a European figure out on their own while just scrolling through the hints and solutions during breakfast' is:
4 solved
1 hint I didn't immediately get for a thread that I do know
5 threads I haven't interacted with

Clearly this factor was well-known regarding the quest, though this is the first I've ever heard of it. I'll have to give it a read.
It actually took me genuine dozens of chapters of constantly going 'Oh, this character has two mums. Cute!' and 'Oh, every member of this council/bakery/whatever is a gal. Cool!' before I realized it was a monogender fantasy setting lol

Practice War my beloved... so many dice memes. So much of Snowfire's suffering from success.
I'm still so shocked at how some of my Plans in that did, even if my participation did fade off towards the end. That said, if you think @Snowfire 's suffering ended with that story (well, no, the Sequel's been just as entertaining) then you didn't look at the clue too closely. See Snowy, even the Admin's say it's a Magical Girl fic!

Just one in so much denial we have to keep an eye out for if characters start dressing only in black and wearing dark make up. :V

I kinda feel like we should productively channel all the 'X will totally appear for 20YZ' into creating bingo boards, but 25 spots to fill is a lot...
