SV's 10x10: Celebrating one hundred great threads across a decade

what? no, hold up, the belt is NOT what DL argues about. we like the belt! the BOOK is what sparked the real arguments

To be fair, there are a lot of things that have sparked real arguments. Like the Faith vs Truth thing, or AV, or the Elfcation. There's been a few discussions regarding Waystones and that one Rune from the Belt relatively recently.

(If I had written the clue I'd probably have said something about burritos)
I can actually explain why the belt is a genuine discussion maker. See, one of the many advantages of the belt is that it allows Mathilde to juggle Warpstone and swim around Dhar without risking herself*. And so, by extension, any argument about whether or not Mathilde should handle Dhar is also a discussion about the belt.

Truly, Necromancy is the solution to all problems. Even the ones from a world where Necromancy doesn't exist.

... So the Jedi Padawan Quest sparked a question in my head: what year would Ciaran's story fall under? Have we already passed her, or are we yet to come across that quest?

Edit: wait, never mind. Posting this made me look up her name which didn't work, then a mispelling of her name did and it looks like she'd be under 2016. As that's when the threads were made despite changing QMs. A lot.

The weakness of my dumb bingo idea are starting to become apparent. We are down to only 1 row, 2 columns and both diagonals still being in play after only two new revealed years.
I am not totally sure whether Aircraft Design Company should count as an example of 'those design quests' since it has like characters and tension and stuff, but I will just count it since it's probably the ancestor of the current genre.

It starts with a point of diversion with Tom Riddle being sorted into Gryffindor. It has a series of one-shots that explore his life and his affect on the magical world. Hermione Granger and the Silent Country closer to an actual novel. Hermione returns to Britain as one of the transfer students from Beauxbatons for the Tri-Wizard Tournament.

Riddle founds the Death Eaters to militantly advocate for equal rights for all* in the British magical community. Dumbledore and Tom Riddle play a game of politics against each other in the Wizengamot until it comes to a peak. The Death Eaters launch a civil war against the British Ministry of Magic and the Death Eaters seize power. Riddle becomes Headmaster of Hogwarts. Tom Riddle is just as psychopathic as he was in canon, just with different goals.
OK thank you for the summary! Sounds like an interesting perspective, an utter sociopath who none the less has a good stance on civil rights. That said, that Dumbledore is apparently Tom's opponent in the civil rights struggle sure is a thing. Given it's one of our top 100 I doubt it does a cliche evil dumbledore thing, but that does sound like something hard to do right. I'll check it out at least.

I am still totally in awe of how good the titles of Suffer Not and its sequel The Witch Lives are. Really fitting spin on that old catchphrase to fit with their fresh perspective on the 40k setting.

Felix Fortuna (Worm/HP)

Scion's been killed and the world's been saved. Fantastic! Less fantastic: Contessa realizing she is going to spend the rest of her life dodging Legend and assassination attempts. She decides she is going to enjoy the rest of her life, even if that means starting all over again in a different...
I was not expecting to win any of these. Certainly not when I don't immediately know and my first search fails.

I don't think it is?

There's a bunch of design quests that predate it, and the ones hanging around right now trace their origins elsewhere.

Separated at Birth: America and Drakia What if? - Timeline - Early Modern - 19th Century - Post-1900

Separated at Birth “The story of the twentieth century is a story of two brothers separated at birth, one raised in America and one in Africa. Their father was British, their mother French, but as is always the case it was their upbringing that shaped their characters.”- Wolf Hugeson, The...

Edit: Honestly shocked I've gotten more than one of these.

Also, Separated at Birth is also very good. You don't even have to be invested in hating the Draka, it's also got interesting alt-history ideologies, cool sci-fi elements, really cool alternate history worldbuilding, the ending is simultaneously genuinely heartbreaking and uplifting, and of course it has the aforementioned "Three separate World Wars started by piece of furniture in Jerusalem" running gag.

Go read it!

Clues and Threads for 2019

2019's 10X10

Nobody ever expects the Inquisition, which is one of the very few perks of an otherwise torturous job.
What challenge remains for the most winning woman in the world? England. And, I suppose, magic too.
Turns out, it's real easy to hate New England Tsarist Neo-Nazis.
No less than three World Wars started over a piece of furniture.
I am convinced that we as a species are genuinely incapable of a true 'no spoilers' policy.

Like all good sequels, hated by many fans of the original.
It is possible that the only thing more dangerous than a wizard with an idea is a halfling with the same.
The past is your faith, the present your strength, the future…well, that's for you to decide.
The Queen of Cities, glorious, resplendent, and on the West Coast!
You are from the future, and you don't have enough of your shattered memory left to explain even if you wanted to!

One of those threads that I know, but I hadn't grasped the importance of. Aside from its length, what makes this eclectic group of watchalongs so glorious?
And yeah, we humans are bad at spoilers. Guess on some instinct we are averse to keeping secrets.
