[X] Amuro Ray

[X] The Magic Knights (Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu)

[X] Aoi Hidaka

[X] Noriko

Amuro is the wisest of the Holy Trinity. I think he can get through to Shinji, especially combined with the Magic Knights, Aoi and Noriko running back up.

I would argue that the People that Shinji has bonded the most with are the Getter Team and Ali representing the Dancouga Nova team, he has also talked with Amuro and Kouji a bit so Ithink the best combination is this one.

Vote closed. Looks like the update's going to involve a mix of heartfelt tenderness and GUTS.

I can imagine the reaction of our allies witnessing it in action.

Although I wonder what does that mean in the voting results. Like will the characters mentioned there will be featured in upcoming chapter, or the characters under the numbers 7 and 6 will be the ones take out Zeruel instead?

It's a post-battle talk with the EVA Pilots.

Zeruel is already dead, he got triple-tapped with the Final Dynamic Special (Getter Beam, Double Thunder Break, and Kaiser Nova.)

NERV HQ, EVA Cages

You are Shinji Ikari, and as you exit EVA-01, you're overcome with a mixture of numbness and exhaustion.

A loud bang gets your attention, and you turn to see Toji crumple into a heap with a groan on the catwalk in front of EVA-03, utterly spent from his first combat deployment.

As you walk over to help him up, the sound of thrusters gets your attention, and you turn to see the Hi-Nu Gundam, the Get Machines, the Nova Eagle, and what you've been told is one of the Solar Vanguard's mass-produced Super Robots, a Grungust. The four machines land, and their pilots disembark.

Amuro Ray disembarks first, helmet already couched under his arm.

Aoi Hidaka gets out next, and you struggle to avoid blushing when you realize that she's unzipped her pilot suit down to her navel, which presumably to cool off, but it's also exposed quite a bit of her cleavage.

The Getter Team emerge from their machines, Ryoma, Hayato, and Benkei adjusting their scarf, tie, and cap respectively.

The pilot of the Grungust steps out, and you realize you're not familiar with this particular pilot. She has shoulder length red hair and is wearing a blue headband. Her pilot suit (which is very form fitting in certain places the more you look) resembles a cross between a leotard and a school gym uniform, with red 'bloomers' and a white and red short-sleeved shirt.

Before you can say anything, Aoi briskly walks up and hugs you.

"Shinji, are you okay?" She asks gently.

"I...I'm fine..." You manage to mumble as you hesitantly return Aoi's hug.

"You don't sound fine." Aoi points out as she releases you.

"I'm just...tired." You lamely offer.

"And EVA-01 went berserk at the end of that last fight. I've heard that it's not fun when that happens. You don't have to act tough." Aoi says sternly.

Toji coughs.

"Ikari...you've got a hot babe that's your type showing concern for you. Take what you can get, man..." He groans as he leans against a stack of crates. Aoi chuckles before turning back to you.

"So...be honest. How do you really feel right now?" Aoi asks.

"...like I didn't do enough." You admit.

"From what I've heard, you did plenty. No need to beat yourself up over what could have been when things have already worked out so well." Aoi reassures you as she pats you on the head.

You feel a sudden chill that you're fairly certain isn't because you're soaked in LCL, and glance back to see Asuka and Rei glaring at you and Aoi. Aoi seems to notice as well, as you see her glance past you and briefly stick her tongue out at them playfully.

"Aoi's right. This Angel was exponentially more powerful than most of the previous Angels you've fought in the past. You should be proud of yourself for ensuring that things didn't end badly." Amuro says as he and the other Solar Vanguard pilots walk up to your group.

"Amuro's right, little man. Compared to what happened the first time you were sent into combat, you've come a long way." Ryoma says as he gives you a friendly clap you on the shoulder.

You inwardly wince as you recall your poor showing against Sachiel.

"I guess you do have a point..." You concede.

"Hey, no one's perfect. And against Angels? It'd take divine intervention to do things perfectly on the first try." Benkei says.

"As long as you keep improving yourselves, you'll be able to get through the worst of it when it happens." Hayato says.

Asuka and Rei walk over to your group. At the same time, the red headed pilot with the headband walks up to you.

"I know that look." She says.

"Sorry, and you are...?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Oh, sorry, this is the first time we're meeting in person. I'm Takaya. Noriko Takaya. Nice to meet you, Shinji Ikari." Noriko says as she holds her arm out for a handshake.

"Nice to meet you, Noriko.." You say as you shake her hand.

"What makes you say you know the look on Shinji's face?" Asuka asks irritably.

"I've been in a position like Shinji's before. Unsure of my place in the world and seemingly powerless." Noriko says.

At the sight of you, Asuka, and Toji's raised eyebrows, Noriko chuckles and elaborates.

"It feels like forever ago now. I was chosen to be part of a Super Robot program for the Federation, and I was easily the worst candidate in the entire program at its inception. I was clumsy, incompetent, easily frightened, and had cripplingly low self-esteem." Noriko says.

"But...you showed up in that Grungust to help us, so...what happened?" You ask.

"A few people saw the potential I had and encouraged me to be better." Noriko says.

"Wish we had someone who did that aside from Misato..." Asuka grumbles under her breath.

"Let me tell you something. If you want to improve as a pilot, there's two things you absolutely must have." Noriko says.

You feel an inexplicable kinship with Noriko in that moment, and listen attentively.

"Hard work, and GUTS!" Noriko pumps her fist in the air.

The Getter Team nod in sage understanding, while Amuro and Aoi also make gesture of agreement.

"You've all got potential. You've just got to do what you can to realize it." Noriko concludes.

You mull over Noriko's words for a few seconds.

"Thanks." You say.

You swear Noriko could have been the older sister you never knew you wanted in another life.

After a few more minutes of conversation, the Solar Vanguard pilots turn to leave, and something comes to mind.

"Uh...Commander Ray?" You ask.

Amuro turns and looks at you.

"What is it?"

"You're a Newtype, right?" You ask.

"Yes." Amuro responds.

"I...I was wondering, is it possible to hear the voices of the dead?" You ask.

"Only under very specific circumstances. Why?" Amuro says with a raised eyebrow.

"When EVA-01 went berserk this time...I could have sworn I heard my mother's voice in the cockpit..." You say.

Everyone except Rei share concerned looks.

"I don't know of anything like that happening." Amuro says after a few seconds.

"Oh, well...thanks anyway." You say.

The Solar Vanguard pilots wave goodbye, Aoi hugging you one more time (to the consternation of Asuka and Rei) before getting into their machines and departing the Geofront.

The moment they're gone, Asuka turns and glares at you.

"After we're done debriefing with your old man, you're taking me out for A-1 steak as soon as we're free." She says in a tone that brooks no argument. "You can tell me all about how you came to know Aoi Hidaka, the model over that."

You know from the few shojo anime you watched with Kensuke that Asuka's in a very dangerous mood right now. Thus, you resort to the only defense mechanism available: acquiescence.

"Sure, why not?" You say.

Asuka gives a 'humph' of approval before turning on her heel and stalking off, Rei following close behind her. Toji gives you a look of sympathy.

"How about I make it a double date and bring Horaki with me? Hopefully Soryu won't rake you over the coals too badly if she's there, AND we can split the bill between the three of us when she's not looking." Toji suggests.

"That would be very much appreciated." You say in relief as you let Toji lean on your shoulder, the two of you making your way down to where you'll debrief with Gendo.

"Think Shinji's gotten over whatever Leliel did to him?" Hayato asks.

"From what I saw in there? Not even close. He's gotten a little better, but he's hiding it well." Aoi says.

"I hate to say it, but we'll have go to Samsara for answers once her main core is back online." Amuro says.

"If it's any consolation, this Shinji is doing a lot better than the one I knew at the same point in time." Noriko points out.

The group stews over that as they return to the ships.

A/N: Shinji's feeling of kinship with Noriko is in reference to the fact that Gunbuster and Evangelion were both made by Studio Gainax. Please discuss and critique!

...Why didn't we have a Gainax version of the Final Dynamic Special with all of their big mecha series in Super Robot Wars Z3, again?

On the other hand a triple inazuma kick would had been great.

Then again don't think SRW has really done crossover attacks in a long while, like apart from the final dynamic special we only have the robot romance trilogy triple attack on mainline.

Outside of that just Cross omega has really had cross stuff like Kamille and Judau combination and Mightgaine with Exkaiser combo.

Turn 16: Those Unforgettable Days
May UE 0084
Macross City

You're in the Kakizaki Bar and Grill, nursing a drink while you half-heartedly watch a tennis game on the bar's TV.

You sigh and lean back in your chair as you sip a cocktail you'd gotten at the recommendation of the bartender. It's called a Zentran Headkicker, so named for the nickname given to moonshine that Zentraedi defectors experimented with brewing during Space War One. You have no doubt it'll live up to its namesake if you have more than one tonight.

The girls are off shopping, and you feel like it'd be good for you to spend some time apart from them-you don't want to get emotionally dependent on them.

"Is this seat taken?" A familiar voice asks.

You turn to see Sumeragi, dressed, as always, in a provocative outfit with a plunging neckline.

"Be my guest." You gesture to the seat next to you.

"Can I get a shot of whiskey?" Sumeragi asks the bartender. He obliges, pouring out her drink before placing it down in front of her.

"I thought you'd be back managing Celestial Being." You say as soon as the bartender is out of earshot.

"Eh, we already made sure Katharon had things in hand before we went down to help with the Angel. Nothing much has happened since, so we have a little downtime." Sumeragi explains, taking a sip of her shot.

"What happened during the recon mission anyway? I heard that Giganos was working on some superweapon called Memento Mori..." You say.

"Well, Giganos is funneling as many resources as they can into finishing Memento Mori, but between the Jama Kingdom and those freaky robots that attacked the R-Daigun, they've been having a rough time of it. A-LAWS did manage to get the drop on us while we were gathering intel, but we fought them off. Hell, Tieria managed to kill one of Ribbons' Innovade pilots. Bring Stabity, I think was his name?" Sumeragi takes another sip of her whiskey.

"So, Memento Mori's not finished yet?" You ask.

Sumeragi scoffs.

"Barely past the halfway point." She says.

The two of you mull over your drinks in silence for a few seconds.

"So, why'd you come out here to talk with me?" You ask.

"Honestly? With everything that's happened, you need a friend to help you get through this." Sumeragi says gently.

"...thanks." You say after a few seconds.

The two of you clink your glasses together and drink, Sumeragi downing the rest of her shot.

When the two of you leave the bar after a while, you're both absolutely hammered, laughing at nothing and leaning against each other for support.

VOTE BY PLAN

Personal Actions (Pick THREE, socializing with someone takes ONE action per character selected)

[ ] Talk with Samsara

[ ] Socialize with someone
-Pick up to THREE characters from the allied character sheet

[ ] Talk with the girls

Research Actions (pick ONE)

[ ] Counterfeit Bronze Bell
-With Himika having stolen the Bronze Bells-and with them, the ability to use both Jeegs-Professor Shiba is trying to come up with alternatives to enable them. Big Falcon and the Nanbara Connection might have a solution, although it definitely won't be a perfect substitute for having the Bronze Bells...
-Will enable Steel Jeeg and Kotetsu Jeeg to be used before the Jeeg finale
-Both units will suffer maluses in combat, especially if they have to fight the Jama Kingdom

[ ] NERV, SEELE, and Evangelions
-Given the existence SEELE and its end goal, it might be a good idea to figure out how much pull they actually have over NERV, as well as Gendo's stake in all of this, as well as the finer mechanisms of Evangelions (if figuring such a thing out is even possible)
-Will allow you to 'recruit' Misato Katsuragi and her inner circle

Solar Vanguard Actions (Pick FOUR)

[ ] Repair Gunbuster
-Repairs on Gunbuster are proceeding apace. However, there is still much that has to be done...
-3 turns of repairs left
-Upon finishing repairs to Gunbuster, will unlock a research action to develop the Sizzler as an MP Super Robot
-Taking this actions represents significant material cost. As a result, available generic forces will be either less numerous, lower quality, or of less variety.
-While Gunbuster is under repair, Noriko will be available as a pilot for any generic Super Robot (i.e. the Grungust if it is developed)

[ ] The Opening Door
-The Archangel, Eternal, and Kusanagi have reported increased activity around the Mendel Space Colony from both Blue Cosmos and ZAFT. They're getting ready to relocate, and would appreciate any available assistance if possible...

[ ] The Dragon's Wisdom
-Fog Sweeper, the commander of Dragon's Hive, has decided to disclose the true objective of his organization. He's ready to tell all at Dragon's Hive's island headquarters.

[ ] Battleship MIA
-ECOAS has reported that the shipyard working on the experimental battleship Libra has gone dark. Given that the Libra had been proposed as a cornerstone for defense against the Council, it might be prudent to investigate...

[ ] Destiny Denied
-With the intelligence Britannia handed over related to Lord Djibril, it should be trivial to assassinate him. All that is needed is for the order to be given...

[ ] Offensive Teleportation
-The Jovian Federation seems to experimenting with weaponized Boson Jumps-more specifically, in teleporting explosives straight into the interior of an enemy vessel. Deploy the Nadesico to track down and destroy either the ship or the weapon system that enables such.

Mandatory Events

Wedding Crashers-Richter has promised Kazuya Ryuuzaki a front row seat to his sister Erika's wedding to Olban. Some form of coup is going to occur, so it's best to have a foot in the door.
Rebuild of EVA-A Dimensional Distortion suddenly formed in the Gobi Desert and dumped a half-destroyed ship there. Something within is broadcasting a NERV callsign, of all things, despite NERV not using any such callsigns to anyone's knowledge. Move to secure whatever is onboard before SEELE gets their hands on it.

A/N: This turn is intended to be a little more slow. Also, I invite anyone who's willing to try to write Shinji and Asuka's date alluded to in the previous update. The one that fits best will be made an official sidestory! If no one bites, I'm going to write it myself. Please vote, discuss, and critique!

You turn to see Sumeragi, dressed, as always, in a provocative outfit with a plunging neckline.
Aaah, Sumeragi Lee Noriega in her Season 1 attire. Quite an eye candy and also a way to not be identified as Celestial Being member off duty.

Did Katharon ever get some new mobile suit upgrades and models from fellow SRW allies so that they won't be a burden on the battlefield?

Katharon doesn't have the best track record when it comes to mobile suit combat as shown when A-Laws mopped the floor with them.

Even Karaba held their ground better against Titans.

Hell, Tieria managed to kill one of Ribbons' Innovade pilots. Bring Stabity
I wonder if Ribbons would bring Stabity (yes I did a pun) as we see Ribbons and later Tieria in A Wakening of Trailblazer can transfer to another new body after dying.

Or just mass produce Bring with an army of him to pilot kamikaze-style mobile suits like in the finale of Season 2 of Gundam 00.

The two of you clink your glasses together and drink, Sumeragi downing the rest of her shot.

When the two of you leave the bar after a while, you're both absolutely hammered, laughing at nothing and leaning against each other for support.
Such wholesome Mood Kindred between fellow drinkers.
