Strigian Woes: Back in Action Edition

Week 2 End/Week 3
[X] Patton 20: Time Management

Hmmm, well that's interesting. You're walking back home, basket filled with eggs from your chicken coop, when something suddenly hits you.

You really have a lot more time in the day than you originally thought.

You mean, between helping Lionbird, making sure none of the animals get out of their homes, and visiting your mother's grave, there's a lot of time in the day you can actually use for other things.

Determined to make use of this time instead of lazing around, you begin to make up a mental schedule in your head. In the end, you find that you have almost the entire afternoon left over after taking care of your mandatory duties.

Granted, you will have to cut out 4 of the 8 hours of sleep your Mama told you to get, but you'll manage. You once stayed up practicing your swords skills for 3 days straight and still felt like a new woman the next day after taking a 2 hour nap!

[Luck Roll 1: 12]

After making a mental schedule, you suddenly feel this very real boost in confidence! You feel like improving yourself is gonna be way easier now!

[For 1 Week: Bonus +5 to Empathy, Culture, and Speech Skill Training]

----

[Luck Roll 2: Nat 20]

"There...that should do it," you say as you stand up from the slingshot you were working on. You could've sworn the thing was off balance, but other than one of the strings being a little slack, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

With the string now taut as can be, you turn back towards….hmm?

[Perception: Environment: 10: Sucess]
[+10 XP]

You turn towards the east, and squint into the distance. You're almost certain that….yeah, right there! In the distance, you can see something shining from the forest.

Curious, you dart over to where it seems to becoming from and find yourself standing in front of a rather tall tree. You look up, and what you see makes you smirk from ear to ear.

A Treasure Chest!

Just like the ones in the stories!

You can barely contain your excitement, as you dash up the branches and pluck the chest from the tree. You do a backflip onto the ground,, and gingerly grab the top of the chest.

What could be in it? Gold Doubloons? A Legendary Weapon? A way to bring your mother back to-huh?!

Reaching into the box yields...scrolls?

Disbelieving, you delve into the chest, searching every nook and cranny. You pull yourself out a bit disappointed.

'That's it?' you think while looking at the three scrolls you pulled out, 'Just three pieces of paper? Oh well, might as well see what's written on them.'

Gathering up the three scrolls, you take them back to the Study and place them in front of you on the floor. Looking closer, you notice that each one is actually sealed by some kind of golden pin with a strange symbol on it:

[Education: History: 0 vs DC: 30: Fail]

[Education: Nations: 0 vs DC: 30: Fail]

[Culture: Humans: 0 vs DC: 30: Fail]

Oh well! If it was owned by anyone important they never would've lost it, would they? You remove each of the pins and lay the scrolls out onto the floor. Their not as long as you originally thought, the tallest one only comes up to your knee, but they do seem to have some kind of schematics written on them.

[Invention: Necessity: 0 vs DC: 50: Fail]

[Invention: Practically: 0 vs DC: 50: Fail]

[Invention: Extravagance: 15 vs DC: 50: Fail]

Unfortunately, you can't make heads nor tails of it! But whatever is written on that third scroll really catches your eye for a few seconds. In the end, you put all three of them on top of the bookshelf where you keep all the books you plan to read.

Right in between "People, How do they work?" and….the wall.

...You need to read more.

[Encounter Roll: 42]

[Group Battle! Number of Enemies:

[Enemy Perception Check: Fail]

You hear the
TWANG of your trap before the rattling of the can. Almost immediately, you are up and running out into the night to see who or what is trespassing in your yard. You slept in your clothes, so that you wouldn't have to worry about getting dressed in case this happened. As you run down the steps, you stop for one second. Should you go get your sword?

You shake your head and keep running. No, time is of the essence right now, and you shouldn't use that unless you plan to kill something or someone. Sure you were able to use it non-lethally against Lionbird, but it was, well, a
Lionbird. You're were at least 75% sure that it could survive having its spine broken.

As you step out into cool night air, you stare at the seven creatures who activated your trap.

Wolves.

You were familiar with wolves. It seemed like every day you would have to scare a couple off when they got a bit too close to your chickens. You understand that they need to eat, but they could try getting some wild prey rather than your domesticated ones. Thankfully, you've only ever seen about 2 or 3 of them near your farm at a time.

Those must've been probing attacks.

Cause what you see before you is a nothing less than a small pack.

All of them have the same shade of shaggy grey fur, almost making them indistinguishable from one another. However, one of them seems to be a bit, bigger than the others. The only thing that distinguished it was a single black streak of fur going all along it's body. The rest of the wolves seem to be just standing by while this one gnaws away at what's left of your slingshot trap.

You're only slightly beaten up about that. While it was one of your creations, it is rather easy to repair. And besides…

[Unarmed: 0 + Strength: 20 + Speed: 35 + Endurance: 20 + 20(Surprise): 95 vs DC: 70: Success]
[+30 XP]

...you wouldn't need it anyway.

To be honest, you're slightly disappointed. This pack of wolves decided that they would bring, at the very least, most, if not all, of their den to come and assault your home. If they had the bravery to do that, you had expected them to have at least one cub who could take you on.

Then again, the fact that you took literally all 7 of the wolves down with one punch each may just have to do with the fact that you surprised them. You didn't kill them of course, all you did was hit them all in the back of the head.

While that wouldn't put down a wolf under normal circumstances, you're you. A blow to the back of head was enough to put down even the mighty Alpha, which you took out first. You then proceeded to give the others the same treatment, all before any of them even knew you were there.

Now all that's left is to decide what to do with them. While it is true that they probably came onto your property to kill some of your animals, they probably only did it for food. Heck you let Lionbird live, and it basically had planned to do the same thing.

Then again, if you let them live they may come back and try again, this time with a bigger pack. Hmmm…

[] Kill 'em all. You can't risk them coming back.
[] Spare them. They were just following their instincts.
[] Feed 'em to Lionbird. You could consider it a gift of sorts.

The DC was modified based on how many enemies you had to face.

Also, Karma shall be in effect as of now. I've been debating with myself on whether to add this or not, and finally decided.

I think Lionbird could use a snack. also did you mean to spare or feed to lion?

EDIT: What do you mean by karma? just noticed you said that.

@LinkOnScepter, thank you for pointing out to these two awesome Quests. And same thing for you, @Sage_Of_Eyes , for doing such monumental effort. The tale of Zhang is one that must be read. It's hilariously awesome. And more importantly: both Quests are not abandoned, but finished! I started reading the first and I can't stop. On the other hand, it does tell a lot how this system works, which will help us greatly here.

Like this. Our protagonist is only one step above being illiterate. Time to fix that. Also, learning Medicine (especially Surgery) is a MUST. Assuming it's the same thing as with Eastern Rhapsody, currently our main girl does not even know what hygiene is.:(

EDIT: What do you mean by karma? just noticed you said that.
I think it's an invisible stat that tracks your morality. Basically, the more good and selfless things you do, the better. There are "karma checks" that will bite you in the ass if you did too many evil actions. Having said that though:

[X] Feed 'em to Lionbird. You could consider it a gift of sorts.

It's the rule of nature.

[X] Empathy - Interests
[X] Speech - Diplomacy

Wait, shouldn't we be able to train a 4th skill now that we have an extra action point, @LinkOnScepter ?
Nevermind then. Thanks for the answer Nevill.

Also, one last thing. You guys can make Omakes if you want, however they will not give you bonuses in the Quest.

I may be following Sage here, but I am not going down that rabbit hole.

Welp, it seems I was mistaken. These two Sage Quests are not really finished. They're not abandoned because they have an ending, even if it's a clearly rushed one. Too bad they weren't continued. I loved seeing Zhang doing inane stuff and such. Hopefully our uber-girl here will be more successful.

Week 3.1
[X] Spare them. They were just following their instincts.

Ehh, it's not their fault that they literally can't survive without killing other living creatures. Besides, without carnivores like them, the herbivore population would spiral out of control. Then guess what happens?

Boom!

No more plants! Which means no more pretty flowers to look at with it's Summer!

Nobody wants that! Especially not you!

So, while waving at the Lionbird to let it know these ones live, you pick all 7 up at once, and run out into the forest.

[Perception: Environment: 10 vs DC: 20: Fail]

Unfortunately, you can't seem to find any tracks that would normally mark the wolves' path to your house. Sighing in defeat, you instead drop them off at some random spot in the forest. You make sure that they aren't too exposed, and do your best to mask their own musk(rather strong in your opinion) from other predators by coating them in mud.

Wouldn't want them to wake up dead now would we?

With that, you happily make your way back to your yard.

You've got a trap to repair!

----

[X] Culture - Human(+ 5 Bonus)

0 to 5:Still wanting to learn more about other humans, you begin to rifle through your study for another book on humans. Surprisingly, you find one!

"Humans: The Traditions of an Entire Race!"

Smiling, you waste no time in cracking open the first page.
You now know that there are things that other humans "value".

10 to 15: As your read, you learn about how humans tend to put a very high amount of value on the way other people "act" around them. For example, while one person might believe that there is no such thing as bad luck and won't get mad at you for bringing a black cat in his house, someone else might be so afraid of bad luck, that they surround themselves with all kinds of good luck charms and will throw you out if you so much as have a small piece of black cat fur on you. Interesting! You now know that humans do not all believe in or practice the same things!

[X] Empathy - Interests

0 to 5: You close the book, satisfied with your progress, and place it behind the scrolls to(finally) place them in between two books instead of one book and the wall. You then grab the book "People, how do they work?" and open it up to Chapter 3: "Interest and You!" You now know what "interest" are!

10 to 15: As you read you being to learn more and more about "interest." Apparently they go right along with "feelings" as they are normally things humans "like to do." For example, you like to swing weapons around, so you could say you have an "interest" in weapons. You now know that "interest" can encompass different things!

[X] Speech - Diplomacy

0 to 5: As soon as you put up the book, you stop. You suddenly realize something. Even with all of your knowledge of reasons, feelings and interest, it's not gonna mean anything if you can't….what's the word? It's on the tip of your tongue.

You rub your chin for a bit, then you snap your fingers. Talk people! That's it! You need to learn how to talk to people.

Unfortunately, you don't have any other
person to practice with.

At least..not any-

You shake your head. No! No! Now is not the time! Besides, your study has helped you every other time, you're pretty sure that…

"Talking to People! It doesn't always have to end in violence!"

….this is why you love your mother.

You now know that it is possible to just "talk" to other people!

10 to 15: You learned a new word today! And you're not sure whether that is a good thing or a bad thing!

It's called "Di-plo-ma-cy". Apparently, it is basically the "art of dealing with people in an effective and sensitive way." It can be used to apparently….end a fight before it's started?!

You do a double take at that. If a fight's already started or going to start, why would you want to stop it!? Isn't fighting the best way to let your ideals and intentions be known to the person you plan to fight?!

According to the book...no, it isn't.

….Man. Humans sure are weird.

[] Mining Ho!: It's dawned on you that if you want to make your Cannon Blade(Name Pending) better, you're gonna need more materials than what you currently have. Hmmm, that mountain had iron in it. Maybe it has some other kind of minerals in it, too? If chosen, roll 1d100 to see what kind of minerals. Don't roll until I confirm the majority.

For those you who are new to a Sage Quest, relationships can, and will, deteriorate over time if you don't pay attention to them.

Unless you get a certain Perk that basically negates that shit.

But anyway, have fun!
