Strigian Woes: Back in Action Edition

[X] Spend time with Lionbird

Upgrades:
[X] Iron Walls: You have a lot of iron. Like...a lot of iron. You're gonna need to find something to do with stuff. Well….the only thing currently separating your farm from the outside world is a wooden fence right now. Hmm… Builds a wall that will give enemies who attack your farm a -10 to Stealth checks.

[X] Back to the Mine: Ok, while you're pretty sure that you won't be able to break through it yet, you can at least tell what that metal that stopped you last time is. See what that metal in the mine is.

@veekie, next time, don't hog the rolls or just let someone else do it. Please?

Nobody rolled for quite a while. Better to roll them all than to have a low membership quest stall for, of all things, waiting for dice.

[X] Spend time with Lionbird
[X] Call Kirean and hang out

Alright, Calling the Votes.

This is the winner:

Social Links ahead! Too bad our girl's social stats are quite bad, but perhaps they won't be necessary this time.

Hey guys. Just letting ya know that, no this Quest is not dead. I already have an idea for what to do with the encounter and luck rolls, it's just that IRL things have caused me to postpone writing.

Namely, planning an Exalted 3rd Edition Campaign for my 2 brothers.

We just got finished with Character Creation.

Archetypes they playing?

Well, ones a Night Caste assassin that was dropped into the Ocean of the West, swam his way out and Exalted, learned how to kill and assassinate extremely well while taking up a fishing to relax, became friends with someone who tried to steal from him, was later betrayed by said person and left to die in a target's giant mansion, found an Infinity Chakram and attuned to it, and then used it to murder his way through the entire mansion, killing his target in the process.

And the other is a Twilight Caste spell-blade, who grew up under the mentorship of the Immaculate Order, learned Terrestrial Sorcery, getting an owl as a familiar, getting claws as a side effect of using said magic, becoming one of the Order's Noble Member's Royal Guards, going off to patrol and watching all of his companions (including his commanding Officer) get eaten by a rogue elemental dragon. Then he killed said dragon, Exalted, and is now hiding out.

I'm planning to based the campaign off of Romance of the Three Kingdoms/Dynasty Warriors (since they did inspire Exalted in the first place), where they both start in a random village right on the edge of the Realm and the Eastern Giant Forestland and we go from there.

Oh, what a shame. Then again, this is the fate of all Sage Quests... Oh wait, not dead yet, you say? Nevermind then *hides shovel*.

So, how playable is Exalted 3rd edition? IIRC, its creation was an absolute clusterfuck.

So, how playable is Exalted 3rd edition? IIRC, its creation was an absolute clusterfuck.
From what I've seen from forums and such, it's a mixed bag.

Some people laude it as the best edition ever. That it fixed a lot of problems that 2nd edition had, and that the mechanics are smoother and easier to pick up an play.

Others say that the game hasn't really changed, and that the new edition is a disappointment. Some go so far as to say that it is actually, worse than 2nd edition.

Others say that the setting is awesome, but the mechanics make it unplayable. I myself have yet to run a game of it, but when I do, I'll tell you how I see it.

There is one universal thing that everyone can agree on though; it is a game that requires HEAVY ST/PC collaboration. One of the rules of the game is literally, "If a rule or mechanic makes the game "boring", house rule it and make it fun."

That was in 2 as well
Didn't know that.

To be honest, the only experience with Exalted I've had outside of last night's character creation was when my brothers and I were using a program to make 2nd Edition Solar, Abyssal, and Infernal Exalted. Needless to say...we never used them.

Week 4.2
[X] Spend time with Lionbird

You finally finish pulling all of the iron from your home into the yard, you start to head up the side of your barn. You figure that if you're going to make any major changes to the farm, you should let your other resident know about it. After all, Lionbird is still your guess.

You pull yourself over the top of the barn, "Hello, my fine feathered-"

"-friend?" You feel your motor skills shut down, as you behold what can only be described as a massive feathered warrior standing on your barn roof. It absolutely dwarfs you in size, reaching up to the tip of the roof of your house! You start to babble as you take one step back….and step on a twig from Lionbird's nest.

The creature's ears pop up, and it's head swivels around to lay it's feline eyes on you. Those eyes seems...familiar, however before you're able to study further, the visitor screeches and closes the distance between you in a second. You're instincts kick in, and you reach for your sword before you realize that you forgot it. Even so, you place your hands into a defensive stance-

[Empathy: 35 vs DC 35: Success]
[+10 XP]

-and then you stop.

You're not sure what it is, but...you know this creature. You look up into those green feline eyes again, "Lionbird?"

The creature cocks its head to the side puzzled, "Lionbird?"

You're taken aback at its...well, her, voice. It is soft, and sounds like the windchimes your mother would use to lull you to sleep at night, "Is...is that you? Or are you one of Kirean's friends?"

"I'm not sure who or what this 'Kirean' or 'Lionbird' is, but I am the griffin that has been living with you for some time."

Now it was your turn to cock your head to the side, "What's a griffin?"

Her eyes widen in shock, "You don't know what-have you been calling me-urgh!" She turns her back to you, puffing her wings out in what you think is frustration. Then she turns back her eyes ablaze, "How could you NOT know what a griffin is? Almost every other human I have met knows what they are! Have you been living on this farm your entire life?!"

When you nod your head in the affirmative, the griffin's anger seems to melt away to genuine surprise, "Wait...you've lived here….and haven't left this place….since the day you were born?"

"Ya huh!" You say back all smiles, "Oh! Except for yesterday when I went out side of the farm to explore my surroundings a bit!"

"......How old are you?"

"17!"

The griffin stands staring at you for a long time. It goes on for so long, that you start to feel a little uncomfortable.

[Karma Check: Positive]

That is until you feel yourself lifted off the ground and brought close to the griffin's chest. Her feathers tickle your skin, and you laugh a bit while in the embrace. After a few minutes she puts you back down, "I'm not sure whether to be mad at you for being so oblivious or to be happy that there's still some innocence left in this world."

She opens her wings and takes to the sky, kicking up dust as she rises. You're forced to cover your eyes to protect them from the sand and dust. When you can see again, you see the griffin flying above you, the sun casting a golden glow on her back, "I'm going off to get some more materials for my nest. I'll be back soon."

"Wait!" You shout out, "You didn't tell me your name!"

"Ah. It is Lexiy. Remember it." And with that, she flies away. You stand on the rooftop, waving your hand. After a few minutes, you jump down and crack your knuckles.

Time to get to work.

Like I said, I'm not dead.

Next post will deal with the Crit fail Luck Roll, Iron Walls, and Encounter Roll.

Also, sorry there's so little this time. I would've added more, but most of my writing energy went towards writing up an Artifact for my Exalted campaign from scratch.

Even when you're mostly stealing from the Core Book, those things can take a lot to write.

Damn, even Lionbird has an humanoid form. Well, I suppose it would have made her romance path awkward if that wasn't the case. ;)

Week 4 End/Week 5/The Return
[X] Iron Walls: You have a lot of iron. Like...a lot of iron. You're gonna need to find something to do with the stuff. Well….the only thing currently separating your farm from the outside world is a wooden fence right now. Hmm… Builds a wall that will give enemies who attack your farm a -10 to Stealth checks.

[Luck Roll: 1 Crit Fail]

"Ok, start from the top."

You fidget, keeping your eyes on the ground, which is currently covered in iron blocks and dirt. "Well," you say, doing your best to not look Lexiy in the eyes, "I started by trying to punch the iron into manageable little blocks."

You can't see her, but you get the impression that Lexiy is probably nodding her head as you speak. Why did she have to come home JUST when things turned sour, "And...well I started to think….maybe I could do something more….impressive than just a normal iron wall."

By now Lexiy is probably raising her eyebrows, "Really?"

"I mean….why just make a regular old wall? That's boring! So instead, I was gonna make something that would really make the whole place…..
POP, I guess."

"And you were going to do this by…?"

You bite your bottom lip and wring your hands together, "I….
tried to turn the walls into cannons."

"You know there's no point in whispering, I literally have the ears of an eagle," you flinch and look up at your bipedal companion.

Forgot about that.

"And in the process of trying to make this 'Wall of Cannons'," why did she have to make the air quotes, "You not only destroyed a rather large section of the house, but you also turned all of the iron you obtained, into dust."

"Well, kinda, sorta, maybe….yes?" Why is she acting like this is entirely your fault?!

[Explosives: Overt: -20: Fail]

How were you supposed to know that putting certain types of dust inside of a confined space would produce an explosion large enough to launch a metal construc through part of your house?!

Lexiy shakes her head in disapproval, "You know, there is such a thing as moderation, right?"

"What does moderation mean?"

Lexiy shakes her head even more.

You flinch and offer up something, "Well hey, at least it can't get any worse."

[Encounter Roll: 19]

At that moment, you feel your heart drop into your stomach.

The entire farm has gone deadly silent.

The chickens aren't crowing.

The cows aren't mooing.

And the horses aren't nickering.

You look up at Lexiy, and see something that you haven't seen on her since..well ever really. The griffon's eyes had always had at least a tiny spark of pride in them whenever you looked at her. It was her staple as an Omega predator, what cemented her as top of the food chain around her Hunting Grounds.

It sent a chill up your spine to see that pride replaced by unmistakable fear.

Something's coming.

And it isn't friendly.

[Stealth Check: Passed by Lexiy!]

Clawed hands grip your shoulders, and the next thing you know you've been pushed into the dust beneath your feet. You prepare to protest, but a feather gets caught in your mouth as Lexiy's wings move to cover your back. Spitting the offending object out, you mouth, "What was that for?" You need to get up and protect your home!

Lexiy just stares at you intensely, ears swiveling to and fro trying to pick something up. You see her mouth, "Be silent," but you refuse. You struggle underneath her clawed hands, but either she is stronger than you, or the adrenaline in her blood is helping her keep you down. Either way, you struggle for all you're worth...until you hear the sound of massive wings beats fly over your location.

You're not sure what it is, but it's wingspan must be at least that of your entire farm as it's shadow easily covers both you and Lexiy once it flies past. The ground quakes underneath you causing the pebbles to bounce against your stomach rhythmically. You strain your head, trying to look up and get a good look at whatever it is, but Lexiy's wings are obscuring your vision.

You grit your teeth at this, but resign yourself to being still. You probably couldn't fight whatever it is up there anyway. Well, fight it
and get away without some serious damage to your body. It sounds pretty big, much larger than Lexiy is in both her forms. Still though, that doesn't mean you like just laying here and doing nothing!

You stop your struggling once the shadow passes over you. Then silence.

You stay on the ground for a good 6 minutes, your feathered companion's wings keeping your back warm while your front is on the cool ground. Lexiy's ears swivel in a full circle one last time, before you hear her release the breath she was holding and ease up on your shoulders.

As soon as you're free, you jump up and rush around the farm checking on all of your animals and structures.

Cows? Check.

Chickens? Fine.

Horses? Still here.

Crops? A-Okay.

Traps and otherwise? Completely functional.

You sigh in relief before walking over to Lexiy and giving her a smile, "Thanks for that. You really saved me back there."

She starts to preen her feathers with her claws as she speaks, "Of course. Now you can consider us even."

You cock your head to the side, "Even? You owed me something?"

She shakes herself in order to remove any stray dust missed from her preening, "Yes. During our first—encounter, you had every opportunity to kill me. Not only did you choose not to do so, but you took me in and gave me shelter until I was able to fly again. Because of that, I was...ever so slightly indebted to you. So, now we are even."

"Oh. Well, thank you again. Though I'm pretty sure I could've taken whatever that was," you absent mindedly rock on the balls of your feet as you speak.

Lexiy raises an eyebrow at your assertion, "Oh really?"

"Well, I probably would come out of it with most of my bones broken, my sword completely shattered, and I would have to be bedridden for about….5 months by the end of it. But I'm about 50% sure I would've taken it with me."

".....Nicol, do you understand what 'Pain' is?"

"Not entirely, but I'm learning!"

[Luck Roll: 7]

Good news! You're irrigation system is still intact!

Bad news! Your house needs fixing!

Good news! The WTS is still functional!

Bad news! You need to get a new bed!

Your home was badly damaged after the Iron Walls fiasco! Will need to spend AP to repair!

[X] Call Kirean and hang out

Well this hasn't been the most...amazing of weeks.

You are currently sitting in the hole where your bedroom was, doing your best to avoid walking on the jagged splinters scattered here and there.

Between failing at building your wall, losing all of your iron, and blowing a hole in your house this could be considered your worst day ever.

But, you will not be beaten down!

Your Mama didn't raise you to be a quitter! So you're not gonna quit now!

You just gotta rebuild your house, and you'll get right back on track!

Just as you get ready to start rebuilding, your thoughts wander over to your God-Child friend, Kirean. No doubt he'll have heard the explosion from your recent blunder, and be worried about you. If anything, he's probably on his way now and is just waiting for you to give him permission or something. Might as well give the cub some peace of mind.

You take a deep breath in and shout out the wolf's name to the forest.

[Perception: Environment: 10 + Perception: People: 0 = 10 vs DC: 30: Fail]

A few seconds later, and you are once again tackled into the ground by the brown, furry blur known as Kirean. He quickly helps you up and looks at you with a worry plain in his eyes, "Are you okay?! I heard this big sound and it came from your farm's direction and I wanted to come and help but I wasn't sure if you needed or wanted me to help and I didn't know if you were in trouble so I—"

"Kirean," you say with as much softness you can muster at the moment.

The wolf cub stops his tirade, "Yeah Nicole?"

You start to rub his head and he nuzzles into your hand, "I'm fine. Just a little….accident."

His tail wags as you rub his hair out of place, until you stop and give each other some space, "Accident?" he questions. His eyebrows raise up a few inches as you show him the large hole in your wall that he just came in through. He rubs his eyes twice before turning back to you, "I honestly have no idea how I missed that. How did that even happen?"

"It happened because
someone was being careless," you audibly grown as Lexiy flies down to land in between you and Kirean, kicking up dust as she does, "Little miss inventor here tried to create a literal 'Wall of Cannons' and it ended up blowing up in her face." Her voice leaves absolutely no mystery as to what she thinks of your rather extravagant idea; reckless and foolish.

"I said I was sorry and that I would be more careful in the future!" you exclaim as a way to defend yourself, but you seem to fall on deaf ears with Lexiy.

Kirean on the other hand, is currently wearing the face of amazement, "You were trying to make a wall
made out of cannons?!" At your nod, he starts to jump up and down so fast, that you could swear he was a rabbit instead of a wolf, "THAT IS SOOOOOO COOOOOLLLL! Do you think you could make one for me?! After you, fix this place up of course. By the way do you need any help with this stuff?"

You grin smugly, and say that he is welcome to help out if he wishes and that you'll definitely think about getting him one. Though you are not sure what a God-Child would need one for.

"Just to have it! Duh! That sounds like the coolest thing ever!"

You think you hear Lexiy sigh and rub her beak at the both of you, "I'm surrounded by children."

All three of you share a laugh and (after introductions between your two friends) prepare to go about your day.

This is one way to bring in the new month you guess!

I still remember this! A bit vague on our long-term goals besides survival, though.

[X] Invention: Extravagance (Tesla)
[X] Ranged Weaponry: Cannons
[X] Tactics: Patton (Overwhelming Logistics)

The Wall of Cannons shall happen, and IT WILL BE GLORIOUS! Don't let the stupid bird disparage the dream!

Edit:

Not anymore, it seems.

Not anymore, it seems.

At least someone's still interested. :)

Hopefully more people will start coming in as time goes on.

As for goals, as of right now there are none outside of survival. Much like the start of AGG:ER, there isn't really anything you guys have to do right now. Any objectives you have are yours and yours alone. For now anyway.

IT LIVES! Sadly, I'll have to re-read this, as I don't remember anything about it. For good or bad, it's just 10 pages.

I'm planning to call the vote tomorrow at around 3:30 to 3:45 PM CST, as that's around the time I'll be getting out of class.

This should give enough time for those still interested to come on back, and vote or for new votes to come in.
