Strigian Woes: Back in Action Edition

Info On Encounters
[X] -Patton 20: Time Managment

seriously, this perk seems kindve OP, QM, pls dont nerf unless an enemy has it.

EDIT: also, will there always be an encounter and the roll determines how dangerous it is or does the roll determine whether or not there is one?

The Perk I did primarily because I couldn't really think of any thing that had to do with logistics that made sense for right now. As for the encounter, it determines both. I basically have three categories for the rolls:

100-60: Benevolent to Neutral living being encounter

50-30: Weak Neutral to Average Evil being encounter

20-1: Powerful to Godly Evil being encounter

Like I said, I kind of went easy with the griffon when you guys rolled a 14 on that d100.

If at any point it is low enough to warrant a group encounter, I'll have a separate d10 roll to see how many there are.

[X] Patton 20: Time Management

Hmmm, well that's interesting. You're walking back home, basket filled with eggs from your chicken coop, when something suddenly hits you.

You really have a lot more time in the day than you originally thought.

You mean, between helping Lionbird, making sure none of the animals get out of their homes, and visiting your mother's grave, there's a lot of time in the day you can actually use for other things.

Determined to make use of this time instead of lazing around, you begin to make up a mental schedule in your head. In the end, you find that you have almost the entire afternoon left over after taking care of your mandatory duties.

Granted, you will have to cut out 4 of the 8 hours of sleep your Mama told you to get, but you'll manage. You once stayed up practicing your swords skills for 3 days straight and still felt like a new woman the next day after taking a 2 hour nap!

[Get! 1 Extra AP to be used on Weekends and Weekdays!]

[Luck Roll 1: 12]

After making a mental schedule, you suddenly feel this very real boost in confidence! You feel like improving yourself is gonna be way easier now!

[Luck Roll 2: Nat 20]

"There...that should do it," you say as you stand up from the slingshot you were working on. You could've sworn the thing was off balance, but other than one of the strings being a little slack, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

With the string now taut as can be, you turn back towards….hmm?

[Perception: Environment: 10: Sucess]
[+10 XP]

You turn towards the east, and squint into the distance. You're almost certain that….yeah, right there! In the distance, you can see something shining from the forest.

Curious, you dart over to where it seems to becoming from and find yourself standing in front of a rather tall tree. You look up, and what you see makes you smirk from ear to ear.

A Treasure Chest!

Just like the ones in the stories!

You can barely contain your excitement, as you dash up the branches and pluck the chest from the tree. You do a backflip onto the ground,, and gingerly grab the top of the chest.

What could be in it? Gold Doubloons? A Legendary Weapon? A way to bring your mother back to-huh?!

Reaching into the box yields...scrolls?

Disbelieving, you delve into the chest, searching every nook and cranny. You pull yourself out a bit disappointed.

'That's it?' you think while looking at the three scrolls you pulled out, 'Just three pieces of paper? Oh well, might as well see what's written on them.'

Gathering up the three scrolls, you take them back to the Study and place them in front of you on the floor. Looking closer, you notice that each one is actually sealed by some kind of golden pin with a strange symbol on it:

[Education: History: 0 vs DC: 30: Fail]

[Education: Nations: 0 vs DC: 30: Fail]

[Culture: Humans: 0 vs DC: 30: Fail]

Oh well! If it was owned by anyone important they never would've lost it, would they? You remove each of the pins and lay the scrolls out onto the floor. Their not as long as you originally thought, the tallest one only comes up to your knee, but they do seem to have some kind of schematics written on them.

[Invention: Necessity: 0 vs DC: 50: Fail]

[Invention: Practically: 0 vs DC: 50: Fail]

[Invention: Extravagance: 15 vs DC: 50: Fail]

Unfortunately, you can't make heads nor tails of it! But whatever is written on that third scroll really catches your eye for a few seconds. In the end, you put all three of them on top of the bookshelf where you keep all the books you plan to read.

Right in between "People, How do they work?" and….the wall.

...You need to read more.

[Encounter Roll: 42]

[Group Battle! Number of Enemies:
1d10: 7]

[Enemy Perception Check: Fail]

You hear the
TWANG of your trap before the rattling of the can. Almost immediately, you are up and running out into the night to see who or what is trespassing in your yard. You slept in your clothes, so that you wouldn't have to worry about getting dressed in case this happened. As you run down the steps, you stop for one second. Should you go get your sword?

You shake your head and keep running. No, time is of the essence right now, and you shouldn't use that unless you plan to kill something or someone. Sure you were able to use it non-lethally against Lionbird, but it was, well, a
Lionbird. You're were at least 75% sure that it could survive having its spine broken.

As you step out into cool night air, you stare at the seven creatures who activated your trap.

Wolves.

You were familiar with wolves. It seemed like every day you would have to scare a couple off when they got a bit too close to your chickens. You understand that they need to eat, but they could try getting some wild prey rather than your domesticated ones. Thankfully, you've only ever seen about 2 or 3 of them near your farm at a time.

Those must've been probing attacks.

Cause what you see before you is a nothing less than a small pack.

All of them have the same shade of shaggy grey fur, almost making them indistinguishable from one another. However, one of them seems to be a bit, bigger than the others. The only thing that distinguished it was a single black streak of fur going all along it's body. The rest of the wolves seem to be just standing by while this one gnaws away at what's left of your slingshot trap.

You're only slightly beaten up about that. While it was one of your creations, it is rather easy to repair. And besides…

[Unarmed: 0 + Strength: 20 + Speed: 35 + Endurance: 20 + 20(Surprise): 95 vs DC: 70: Success]
[+30 XP]

...you wouldn't need it anyway.

To be honest, you're slightly disappointed. This pack of wolves decided that they would bring, at the very least, most, if not all, of their den to come and assault your home. If they had the bravery to do that, you had expected them to have at least one cub who could take you on.

Then again, the fact that you took literally all 7 of the wolves down with one punch each may just have to do with the fact that you surprised them. You didn't kill them of course, all you did was hit them all in the back of the head.

While that wouldn't put down a wolf under normal circumstances, you're you. A blow to the back of head was enough to put down even the mighty Alpha, which you took out first. You then proceeded to give the others the same treatment, all before any of them even knew you were there.

Now all that's left is to decide what to do with them. While it is true that they probably came onto your property to kill some of your animals, they probably only did it for food. Heck you let Lionbird live, and it basically had planned to do the same thing.

Then again, if you let them live they may come back and try again, this time with a bigger pack. Hmmm…

[] Kill 'em all. You can't risk them coming back.
[] Spare them. They were just following their instincts.
[] Feed 'em to Lionbird. You could consider it a gift of sorts.

[X] Spare them. They were just following their instincts.

Ehh, it's not their fault that they literally can't survive without killing other living creatures. Besides, without carnivores like them, the herbivore population would spiral out of control. Then guess what happens?

Boom!

No more plants! Which means no more pretty flowers to look at with it's Summer!

Nobody wants that! Especially not you!

So, while waving at the Lionbird to let it know these ones live, you pick all 7 up at once, and run out into the forest.

[Perception: Environment: 10 vs DC: 20: Fail]

Unfortunately, you can't seem to find any tracks that would normally mark the wolves' path to your house. Sighing in defeat, you instead drop them off at some random spot in the forest. You make sure that they aren't too exposed, and do your best to mask their own musk(rather strong in your opinion) from other predators by coating them in mud.

Wouldn't want them to wake up dead now would we?

With that, you happily make your way back to your yard.

You've got a trap to repair!

[X] Culture - Human(+ 5 Bonus)

0 to 5:Still wanting to learn more about other humans, you begin to rifle through your study for another book on humans. Surprisingly, you find one!

"Humans: The Traditions of an Entire Race!"

Smiling, you waste no time in cracking open the first page.
You now know that there are things that other humans "value".

10 to 15: As your read, you learn about how humans tend to put a very high amount of value on the way other people "act" around them. For example, while one person might believe that there is no such thing as bad luck and won't get mad at you for bringing a black cat in his house, someone else might be so afraid of bad luck, that they surround themselves with all kinds of good luck charms and will throw you out if you so much as have a small piece of black cat fur on you. Interesting! You now know that humans do not all believe in or practice the same things!

[X] Empathy - Interests

0 to 5: You close the book, satisfied with your progress, and place it behind the scrolls to(finally) place them in between two books instead of one book and the wall. You then grab the book "People, how do they work?" and open it up to Chapter 3: "Interest and You!" You now know what "interest" are!

10 to 15: As you read you being to learn more and more about "interest." Apparently they go right along with "feelings" as they are normally things humans "like to do." For example, you like to swing weapons around, so you could say you have an "interest" in weapons. You now know that "interest" can encompass different things!

[X] Speech - Diplomacy

0 to 5: As soon as you put up the book, you stop. You suddenly realize something. Even with all of your knowledge of reasons, feelings and interest, it's not gonna mean anything if you can't….what's the word? It's on the tip of your tongue.

You rub your chin for a bit, then you snap your fingers. Talk people! That's it! You need to learn how to talk to people.

Unfortunately, you don't have any other
person to practice with.

At least..not any-

You shake your head. No! No! Now is not the time! Besides, your study has helped you every other time, you're pretty sure that…

"Talking to People! It doesn't always have to end in violence!"

….this is why you love your mother.

You now know that it is possible to just "talk" to other people!

10 to 15: You learned a new word today! And you're not sure whether that is a good thing or a bad thing!

It's called "Di-plo-ma-cy". Apparently, it is basically the "art of dealing with people in an effective and sensitive way." It can be used to apparently….end a fight before it's started?!

You do a double take at that. If a fight's already started or going to start, why would you want to stop it!? Isn't fighting the best way to let your ideals and intentions be known to the person you plan to fight?!

According to the book...no, it isn't.

….Man. Humans sure are weird.

Week 3.2
[X] Spend Time with Lionbird

You jump up to the top of the stable, where your guest makes it's home. You see the creature laying down, its wings folded and head down on its paws.

Aww! It looks like a cute, sleeping, vicious wolf cub!

You don't want to wake it up, maybe you could try to get close to it without making any noise.

You raise up on your tip toes-

[Evasion: Stealth: 0 VS DC: 55: Fail]

-And before you can even take your first step, Lionbird opens up one of it's catlike eyes. You freeze mid-stride and lock eyes with the creature.

While you don't think the animal can talk, the gaze it's given you communicates more than words could. Namely the sentence, "Nice try, but no."

You awkwardly smile, and wave at Lionbird, as it begins to sit up. It keeps it's hind legs and tail on the ground while bringing up its powerful claws and bird like head.

Placing the soles of your feet on the ground, you begin to walk towards the Lionbird, scratching the back of your head in embarrassment.

"So, umm, hey, there, you…" you do your best to try to start up a kind of conversation. The creature stares at you, its eyes unamused. You bite your tongue. You have no idea what to say here.

[Motives: 10 + Feelings: 10 + Interest: 15 + Talking to an Animal: 10 + Diplomacy: 15 = 60 vs DC: 40: Success]

So, you decide to not beat around the bush.

"So hey listen, I was going to go out to that mountain later to see what kind of metal I can find by punching a hole in the side of it to see what I can find. But before I do that, I wanted to see if there's anything you wanted to do today. So, is there?"

The Lionbird seems to stare at you for a couple of seconds, then it stands up to its full height. By now, you're close enough that it could try to crush you with its claws, so the shadow that falls over you as it stands is a rather large one.

However, you stand your ground and wait for an answer. To be honest, you're not even sure you'll get one, but it never hurts to try. Besides, if you're going to improve your relationship, you're going to need to find out what the beast "interest" are.

You mean, besides eating things, and flying around places.

"So...is-" then you feel yourself get pushed back by the beast tail.

You stare at it angrily, "What was that for?" It just stares at you, but you can read the emotions in its eyes. It's a trick you picked up from all those days tending to animals.

But what you see slightly surprises you. Because, other than the strong sense of pride that is always evident in the creature's eyes, you can see something else.

Like, a small amount of….caring? You wouldn't call it love, you seen what that looks like, but you can tell that the creature at the very least acknowledges you as something other than a strong being.

The Lionbird screeches at you, and takes off into the air. You look up, and after a little it comes down and grabs your shoulders in its powerful talons. It takes to the sky with you in its grip, and you feel yourself smiling.

Looks like you got somewhere after all.

Sorry it's taking so long. Some IRL things have come up. Namely getting into College.

Here's the Lionbird part just to hold you over.

Week 3.3
[X] Mining H-INTERRUPT!

After Lionbird landed back on top of the stables, you jumped off the roof and prepared to go. The mountain you got that iron from is a fair distance to the east of your home. Thanks to your speed training you were able to get there in record time on foot, so you see no reason why not to just run there.

You crouch down on the ground, one leg placed firmly on the ground behind you, and the other bent at the knee. You place both your hands on the ground and count down.

3…you tense your muscles.

2…..you take a deep breath.

1…..G-

[Perception: Environment: 10 + Perception: People: 0 = 10 VS DC: 30: Fail]

-OOOOMMMPHHH!

Just as you're about to run off, you're tackled to the ground by something. How it got past your trap you have got no idea, but you can't exactly think about that as you're sent rolling through the cornfields with whatever just smashed into you.

You roll for sometime, until your momentum finally gives out, and your left splayed out on the ground with something that feels light as a feather to you sitting on top of you.

You sit up quickly, ready to fight whatever was able to get the drop on you...and look up to see a smiling furry face.

"Hi ya!" he, because it is clearly a boy based on his rather...open shirt, shouts to your face his voice laced with ecstatic glee, "Remember me?!"

You're about to say no, but then you look into his eyes. The left one is almost completely dark, but it is dotted with small blinking lights that go on and off constantly. The right one is bluer than any body of water you've ever seen, and you feel like you could get lost from just staring at it.

You blink once then you blurt out, "Kirean?!"

His ears prick up, and he gets this huge smile on his face before hugging you very tightly. "Yep! It's me!" Then he bounces off of you, does a triple-backflip in the air, and lands in with his chest puffed out and his right thumb pointing at himself, "Kirean, The God Child!"

A light wind blows by, bending the cornstalks like blades of grass. Kirean smiles at you and starts jumping place, "So?! What do you think, huh?! Was that an awesome entrance or what?!"

You stand up and dust yourself off. You look at Kirean as he bounces in front of you.

[Diplomacy: 15 + Empathy: 20 (Motives + Feelings) = 35 vs DC: 30: Pass]
[+10 XP]

You're about to tell Kirean that it was flashy and childish, but then you stop and remember what you read in those books about "feelings" and "talking to people." So, you take a breathe and actually look at Kirean for a second.

His tail, wagging so much that it is actually causing a small dust storm, is currently held pointing towards the ground so it can move with him as he jumps. His ears are up and moving from side to side, while his eyes are sparkling with a childlike happiness.

Then it hits you, 'Oh, he's just a puppy! At least a puppy for a Godchild anyway! He just wants some praise!'

You could still admonish him for doing this, as it's likely to annoy people who aren't you, but that might make him mad. You're not sure if you want to get on a Godchild (or his parent's) bad side.

Just as you're thinking about what to say, Kirean puts on a sudden burst of speed and puts his face so close to yours that your noses are touching.

"Well!?" he squeaks out, "What do you think?!"

[] Praise him. And pet his head for good measure.
[] Be indifferent. Tell him it was ok, but that is could still use some work.
[] Admonish him. Tell him that a Godchild shouldn't act like that and hit him on the nose.

Week 3.4
[X] Praise him. And pet his head for good measure.

You lift up your hand and begin to rub the mess of fur on his head. It's surprisingly soft, even though it does look like it is in need of a good combing, "It was awesome! Being honest, I was so surprised, I thought you were some kind of intruder!"

Kirean's eyes close as he nestles up against your hand, moving in tune with your palm. His leg starts to rhythmically tap against the ground as you start to scratch behind his ears. However, it seems this brings him out of his stupor, for he backs off a bit. He smiles awkwardly at you, "Yeah, well, thanks! I'm thinking of adding a little something to it though. Like something to really make it pop."

He puts his hands behind his back and rocks on his feet, "Soooo….uuuhhhh….what are you doing today?"

You tell him, and he nods his head, "Sounds cool. My mom normally makes all of her weapons from the animals she hunts. Granted they're usually really tough monsters like Cyclops and stuff. She's cool like that."

You nod, and you both stand there just looking at each other for a while. You can tell that both of you are looking for something to say, but it is rather difficult. Based on what you've seen, the only human Kirean has ever interacted with is...well, you, and you're...you. You know nothing about starting or continuing conversations.

Thankfully, Kirean breaks the silence by clapping, "Oh right! I never got your name!"

You smile, thankful for something to converse about. You were rather enjoying talking to someone other than Lionbird, "It's Trine. Nicol Trine."

Kirean holds out his right hand, palm facing outward, "Nice to...officially meet you, Nicol Trine."

[Culture: Humans: 15 + Speech: Diplomacy: 15 = 30 VS DC: 25: Success]
[10 XP]

He keeps the hand out for a few seconds, then frowns when you don't seem to react to something.

You tilt your head in confusion, then it dawns on you, "Ah! This is the human 'handshake', yes?" you ask tentatively.

Kirean nods, "Yep, my dad says that humans use it to-"

"Confirm allegiances, seal pacts, and as an all around greeting," you finish for him, "The act involves both parties holding out their dominant hands, looking each other in the eye, grasping the said hands, and then shaking them both furiously and proudly!" You finish proudly, having done the deed down to the letter as you explained it.

Kirean stares at you for a second, his mouth slightly ajar as you let go of his hand. "Yeah...exactly that…" he drones out.

Then he shakes his head and the smile from earlier returns, "Well, if you ever need anything, just give me a call!" And with that he disappears in a puff of dust.

You stand there for a few minutes to be sure that he is gone, then you pump your fist in the air.

Your first successful handshake! And it was with a Godchild no less! Mother would be so proud!

[Kirean, the Godchild! Relationship: 2 of 10: RP: 3 of 3]

[X] Mining Ho! (For Real this Time)

A bit drunk off of your original success, you speed on towards the mountain to begin your mining. You arrive at the foot of the mountain and temporarily marvel at the vast rock in front of you. As you look up, you find you can't see the peak as it is blocked by a thick cover of clouds. You have no doubt that it must be exceedingly high up.

You're gonna have to climb up there at some point in time.

But for now…

You crack your knuckles then your neck.

It's time to get to work.

[Mining Roll: 88]

[Strength Check: 20 vs DC: 20: Success]

[Strength Check: 20 vs 30: Fail]

Unfortunately, you don't get very far.

But you do find some interesting stuff.

Well, really at first you only find more iron.

However, it was what was under the iron that really got your attention.

You knew what iron looked like. It was grey, lumpy, and generally very easy to find as, it seemed to grow all over the insides of the mountain. Even after you punched out enough of it to remodel your home twice over, you were confronted with yet more of the stuff.

Which is why you were slightly surprised when you struck something you couldn't punch through.

At first, you thought it was just a rather stubborn piece of iron that had gotten in your way. But, when you punched it a second time, it still didn't budge. Slightly annoyed, and curious, you examined the vein of metal in front of you.

Unlike the iron around it, this ore seemed to be...pure. Its surface was pale white, and when the sun's rays flowed in from the door you excavated hit it, it reflected the light into your face. Squinting, you reached up and touched the ore. It was smooth to the touch, yet it felt like it could be sharper if welded by a skilled crafter.

[Perception: Objects: 0: Fail]

A bit discouraged, you shrug, and pick up all the iron you've managed to get from this venture. You're not giving up of course. You just need to either get stronger, or make something to help you get through this metal in your way.

And you will. You just need time, and you've got plenty of that.

[Mysterious Metal Found!]
[Lots of Iron Get!]

[X] Explore

Breathe in….breathe out.

'It's gonna be ok,' you tell yourself as you stand at the edge of your property.

Breathe in…..breathe out.

'Nothing bad will happen,' you tell yourself, your right hand instinctively holding onto your Cannon Blade, as if it is some kind of safety net.

Breathe in…...breathe out.

'You'll...be...fine," you tell yourself, as you take one last deep breath and start walking.

Almost as soon as you are only a couple of feet from your home, you begin to tremble. Sure, you've been away from the farm before. But every time you have, it's always been for a specific period of time.

Improving Lionbird's nest: couple of minutes at most.

Mining the mountain: about 10 or 15 minutes.

Trips to your mother's grave: 20 minutes on the dot.

This will be the first time where you are literally just...going somewhere. Of course you'll be back, but still...it just feels...scary.

Even so, you press onwards. You're not going to stop now. One thing Mama always said was to never let your fear control you.

Instead, break its back over your knee and let it know who's boss!

And so, you keep walking, ready for whatever this world may throw at you.

[Encounter Roll:
1d100: 42]

To be honest, you didn't expect this.

At first, your travels had been relatively undisturbed. Nothing jumped at you from out of the woods, you never once heard some predatory bird hovering over head, and there was no wolf asking you if you were going to your grandmother's house...though you're pretty sure that last one was just a story your mother told you when you were a baby.

Either way, your trek was pretty peaceful, all things considered.

Key word:
WAS.

Right now, you were standing on the edge of what could only be describe as what was left over after a hurricane passed through the forest.

Trees lay toppled over, driving deep trenches into the ground where small woodland creatures desperately tried to take cover from something. The ground itself seemed to be covered in craters, some larger than a river, and others smaller than your bathtub. Massive gouges had been carved into the earth, splitting stone and crust apart, leaving chasms about as big as your whole body. Even the flowers were not safe, as not a one was still standing proud as it once had. Instead all of them had wilted over or been trampled by human boots.

And right in the center of all of this carnage, were two men engaged in an epic struggle.

One was a man who seemed to have stepped straight out of one of your fantasy books, specifically the Gallant Knight who always rescued the Princess. He wore a light blue armor, tinged around the edges with white that made it almost gleam as if it had just been polished. His brown hair, was filthy with grime from the battle, and his black eyes seemed transfixed on the man he was facing.

His opponent, in almost stark contrast, looked like the Horrific Black Knight who always kept the Princess locked away in a tall, terrible tower. His armor, jagged and black, shined as the light of the sun reflected off of it. The man himself must be massive, for he towered over the other man, almost dwarfing him in stature. He wore a helmet that slightly reminded you of a bucket on his head, except that where there would normally be slits for his eyes and mouth, there instead was a long, blank sheet of some kind that hid his every facial expression from his enemy.

Even the two men's weapons seemed to contrast each other, clearly seen as they were locked against each other as the two men battled for supremacy. The Blue Knight's weapon was a ruby-red spear, that was broad at one end and thin at the other. It was almost as long as the Blue Knight was tall, and seemed to pulse with a strange power.

The Black Knight, however, did not seem to carry any melee weapon you were familiar with. Instead, locked in a deadly embrace with his adversaries weapon was a long cylindrical shape that slightly reminded you of a cannon...if the cannon was cut down to size, reshaped, and given a better grip and firing mechanism.

You stare at the two in awe, as they continually exclaim at each other, trying to force their opponent to give ground. However, both men had set their boots and no matter what the other did, neither would budge.

At least, not unless you did something.

Alright, here ya go! The next Update!

Oh and just so you know, The Black Knight is in fact the actual Doomguy from Doom 4 not just some multiplayer character.

I used that picture, because I couldn't find any fanart of a Medieval or Steampunk Doomguy on Google Images.

Now about the mining roll, yes, you guys did roll high enough to finds some rare metals that are native to the planet. However, in order to get to them, you have to go through the metal that you hit (which is silver so there's no confusion), which you don't have the strength to do.

Some of the metals we have on earth are a bit tougher to mine on this world.

Then again, considering what can be created from those metals, it is kind of understandable.

Anyway, hope you enjoy, and ask any questions you may have!

It is true that this really is none of your business. You don't know either of these men, and to be honest, you only came out here because you had planned to explore a bit of the space outside your property. Nothing's stopping you from just walking away right now.

And yet…

You look around the field-no-the battleground and the scarred remains of what it once was. You see the small animals, squirrels, birds, and rabbits, all huddled together under a fallen tree for safety. The cracked ground that was once bright green earth.

No, you can't let this continue. If you do, these two will just cause even more destruction to this area. And whose to say it won't reach your farm? You can't have that!

Of course, you can't just go in and fight those two. Well...you could, but something's telling you that jumping into a fight when you know absolutely nothing about what it is about is probably a bad idea. Which means there is only one option…

You're going to half to...
talk to them.

You shiver. You're really not good at that whole talking and di-plo-ma-cy thing yet. Like probably the worst. But, if there were anytime to get some good practice in….

You sigh, and begin to scratch your chin as you survey the situation in front of you. The two warriors...haven't really moved much since you last looked at them. They're still just standing there, clashing their weapons together and grunting.

[Diplomacy: 15 + Motives: 10 + Feelings: 10 + Interest: 10 = 45 VS 65: Fail]

Well, no better time than the present! You jump forward, and land right on the edge of the epicenter of the battle.

The two men, obviously, notice you and turn their heads to face you, though their weapons remain locked together.

'Alright...soooo...now what?'

…..

To be honest, you didn't think this through completely. You mentally shrug, 'Might as well wing it!'

"Um," you begin feeling really nervous for some reason, "can you two...maybe...stop fighting? Please?"

Well, they stopped fighting at the very least! But, now they're staring at you as if you've grown a second head. You scratch your cheek, while smiling awkwardly. So far so good, you guess.

The Black Knight is the one to break the silence as he casually points his weapon towards you, "So this kid with you?" His voice, though muffled by his helmet, sounds rough and worn. The tone causes you to slightly bristle. This man is dangerous.

The Blue Knight on the other hand, quickly interposes himself between you and the Black Knight, holding his spear out with a sneer on his face, "Foul creature! Dost thou think everyone is nothing more than an opponent to be brought to heel!? This is obviously a civilian, who accidentally happened upon our field of battle!" His voice reminds you of the ones your mother used to make whenever she read those books about knights to you. Loud, proud, and brave.

He then turns to you, and allows his features to soften, "You need not worry, young lad. I, The Noble Knight Siegfried, shall protect you from this brute!" He then whips his head back around to face the Black Knight.

The Black Knight merely stares at the man, who is apparently called Siegfried, and says, "Seriously? Dude are you blind? This kid may not look like much, but he definitely ain't a civie."

"Lies! Judging by his garb this lad is most certainly a farm hand at a nearby settlement. He must have come to this forest looking for some High Adventure!" You raise your eyebrow and look down at your clothes. A grey shirt covered by dark blue overalls and simple woollen boots. Nothing different from what you normally wear.

The Black Knight places his free palm against his faceplate before gesturing towards your Cannon Blade, "Then how do you explain that big ass sword strapped to his back?"

"It was probably a gift from a relative, who was probably a Noble Knight of the Tudor Kingdom!" Siegfried replies before jumping at the Black Knight, "Now, enough talk! Have at thee!"

[History: 0: Fail]

[Nations: 0: Fail]

You've got no idea who or what the Tudor Kingdom is, but it's pretty clear that Siegfried is apparently a knight for them and they don't like the Black Knight for some reason.

But you do know one thing….

Just as Siegfried lands in front of the Black Knight, who pulls ups his weapon and holds it in both hands, you jump into the air and unsheath your blade. You swing it around and hold it above your head, aiming towards the small space inbetween Siegfried and the Black Knight.

"Negotiations have failed!" You shout as you rocket into battle with the two warriors.

[Swords: 20 + Sorcery: 15 + Cannons: 15 + Alexander: 20 + Strength: 20 + Speed: 35 + Endurance: 20 + Cannon Blade: 10 + Surprise Attack: 10 - Multiple Combatants: 20 - Skilled Combatants: 20 = 125 vs DC: 120: Success]
[+20 XP]

'So...this is what it's like to fight other humans.'

That's what's going through your head as you swing your sword down towards Siegfried, who blocks it with the haft of his spear for the third time. The Black Knight comes up behind you and takes aim, probably planning to blast both of you to pieces. You learned what that weapon of his could do, after dodging a shot aimed at your skull. The….ammo….that it expelled hit a tree behind you and filled it with little holes the size of a bee.

You really don't want to get hit with that thing, the power it puts out is on par with your cannon! One shot could pierce through even your tough skin! But, you can't afford to turn your back on Siegfried. The last time you did that, the man almost skewered you. The only reason you survived was because you felt the weapon breaking the fabric of your overalls when it hit you. You have to keep this man in front of you.

Which means it's time to pull out your trump card.

You pull back on your sword, hearing the hiss as the blade slides from the haft, and aim the hilt behind you. While you don't have an exact idea of where the Black Knight is, you don't need one for what you're doing. You feel the magic in the air, will it into the cannon, and press the button. A loud clang sounds as the mass of iron is fired out of the hilt of your sword. You hear a loud crash as it hits something that you hope is the Black Knight.

Siegfried's eyes go wide, which is the opening you needed. You spin on your heel, and slam the flat of your blade into his midsection. You feel the force of the strike, as Siegfried gasp and slides back a few feet. However, the man isn't out of the fight, and charges at you, spear aimed at your chest. You're about to jump out of the way, you feel something hit the back of your head and send you flying. You crash into the ground, but recover quickly. You see the Black Knight, dodge Siegfried and hit him in the face with a hard right jab.

Siegfried stumbles back, but stays upright long enough to get a good jab at the Black Knight. The spear hits a chink in the man's armor, causing him to flinch and jump to a safe distance.

There's a lull in the battle, as the three of you stare each other down. You look your opponents over, trying to gauge how much damage you've managed to deal.

Siegfried stands tall, his spear held out to his side as his eyes dart from you to the Black Knight. You're last attack left a massive crack in his armor, and you're pretty sure the man should have a couple of broken ribs. Even so, the man's stance doesn't betray a single hole in his defence, and you're almost certain that even if he lost his arm, he wouldn't stop fighting.

The Black Knight looks to be in almost the same condition. Though his armor is cracked and flaking off in places, though you hit his weapon enough times that you can see the chinks in it, the man's aim never wavers from either you or Siegfried.

You hold your sword out ready for the next round of combat...that doesn't come.

Instead the Black Knight, looks up at the sun and curses, "I don't have time for this." Then he points towards Siegfried, "You and me will settle this later!"

The Blue Knight flourishes his spear, "I will duel you anytime, brute!"

"And as for you," he points towards you while holding his weapon in his off hand, "Whoever you are, you're absolutely no friend of that justice-crazy idiot right there! So, if you ever want to make some real use of your talents, come join the Yemamid Dynasty! We'll find a place for ya!" And with that he vanishes into the forest, his dark armor blending in with the shadows of the trees.

[History: 0: Fail]

[Nations: 0: Fail]

You look towards Siegfried who sighs and sheathes his spear. He begins to walk away, heading towards the west part of the forest. Once he is at the edge of the clearing, he stops and turns towards you. His face is set in stone as he speaks to you, "You are a very powerful warrior, and it would be shame to allow such raw talent to go to waste.

As such I beseech you," he gets down on one knee, and bows his head to you, "please, seek me out in the Tudor Kingdom. I would happily take you on as my squire. However, if you do not seek me out, then I shall understand and shall hope to never see you on the field of battle. Farewell!" He stands, and begins to walk away.

And so, you are the only one left in the clearing.

….

You pump your fist in triumph.

You got them to stop fighting!

Mission Accomplished!

---

It takes you a bit to get back home, but when you do you suddenly feel very tired. You don't know why, but all you want to do is lay down in your soft, soft bed and close your eyes.

Even when Lionbird comes and nudges your side, you just pat the bird on its beak and keep walking. It looks a bit troubled, but flies back up to its nest as you enter your house.

You let your Cannon Blade drop from your arm, as you walk up the stairs to your room. When you finally make it to your bed, you flop down with your face in the pillow.

Sleep comes and you don't fight it. As your eyes close, you think back to the times when Mama would tuck you in at night and tell you how much you meant to her. You smile as darkness overtakes you.

Week 4.1
As the sun begins to shine over your homestead, your eyes gently flutter open. You yawn deeply, and try to push yourself up off the bed. Your muscles groan in protest, but you manage to at least get into a sitting position.

You begin to massage your aching body. That was some fight back there! Way more intense than what your mom used to throw at you! Then again, those guys were actual warriors.

You manage to force yourself to stand up, arching your back to work out all the kinks. The loud popping noises that accompany the movement send shivers of relief all through your body. As you continue to stretch the pain out of your body, something occurs to you.

'Hey', you think to yourself, 'I just survived my first real fight! Yes!'

You shout and jump up and down in triumph, before wincing and immediately stopping. You laugh, while grabbing your side, and start to walk downstairs. You think you'll be taking it easy today.

[X] Education: Nations: 0+10 = 10

As you walk into the study, you think back on yesterday's confrontation. You remember those men talking about the places where they were from. Tudor...and...Yamma...something or other. You don't know what either of those names mean or if they are referring to a what or a who. However, one thing is for certain:

They do not like each other.

But then comes the question: Why?

So, in order to get to the bottom of this, you look through the study trying to find some book that talks about the different places where humans live. It proves...rather difficult actually, and you find yourself about to give up in frustration.

Then, just when you start leaning against the bookshelves, a massive book crashes down on to the floor. Shocked, you look up at the top of the bookshelf. It must've fallen off when your weight unbalanced it!

You rush forward….and stop when you see a note written on the front of the book.

I figured you would need this.

I love you.

Mom.

Fighting back the tears in your eyes, you pick up the book and open up the first page.

….And then you do not start to break down in sobs as you see that the entire book was written in your mother's handwriting.

0-10:
If you're reading this honey, chances are that you have at least a hint of what is going on outside of our farm. Which means that it is only a matter of time before either it finds you, or you go looking for it. And since I probably won't be around long enough to help you with it, I figured I can at least give you the knowledge you will need to make the right choices.

If my memory serves there are currently three races in the world, the Mortals (Humans and Enhanced Humans), the Vampires and the Werewolves. Each of these races has three different factions that have split off from each other:

Mortals:

  • The Tudor Kingdom: A Human Kingdom based around knights, chivalry and magic. At war with the Yemamid.
  • The Yemamid Dynasty: A Human Shogunate based around technology, honor, and the Old Values. At war with the Tudor.
  • The Phoven Empire: A long dead Empire brought back through the use of magic as an Undead Legion. Currently gathering their strength.

Vampires:

  • The Nightlords: One of the oldest vampiric clans, and some of the most powerful. Doesn't very much care for the Horde.
  • The Blood's Horde: A clan of vampires, fixated on one thing and one thing only; killing humans. They care for not except battle. Hate the Nightlords.
  • The Moonlight Oblivion: Trust me sweetie, it's better if you know nothing about this faction.

Werewolves:

  • The Silent Cave Pack: The oldest werewolf pack. Makes their home in the mountains. Currently gathering strength.
  • The Lycan Woodland Pack: The werewolves who live closest to mankind. Make their homes in the woods. Currently gathering strength.
  • The Sentinel Canines: These are-

You can't quite make this part out, as it has all been covered in ink. Even so you read on.

As you can probably tell, none of the races really care for each other. The Vampires either want the world dead or enslaved, while the humans are too busy fighting each other to really make a difference. The Werewolves will only interfere, if the Vampires start to make a move. So as of right now, the world is in a kind of stalemate, I guess.

Things may have changed in the time since I was gone, so I don't know how accurate these writings are. But, I sincerely hope you find some use for them, deary.

Never forget that I love you. Now and forever.

[Info Gained on Nations! Will be added to Character Sheet!]

[X] Perception: Objects: 0+10 = 10

0-10: You do not wipe the tears from your eyes, and place the book on your "To Read" shelf. Even in death, she's still looking out for you. You stand, staring at the book a bit more, before you turn and start to walk towards your workshop.

Once there, you place a hammer down on the table, and stare intensely at it. When you first saw those two men, one of the things you took note of was their weapons. You've seen spears before, but that Siegfried guy's was definitely not a normal spear. For one thing it was red, and you don't know of any metals that are red.

Second it was…..well, red.

And you don't even have to start on the Black Knight's weapon. That thing may as well have come from another place altogether. Which...it probably did. But either way, it made you realize that you need to get better at telling when things look strange.

Plus, you really wanna find out what they stuff that blocked your progress in the mountain is.

So to start, you begin to look at your hammer.

….

Yep, it definitely is a hammer, but you never noticed those dents in the handle before. Confused, you pick it up, and find that the dents form a perfect grip for you hand. You then realize the dents probably came from all those times you were squeezing it when you were working on projects.

...Well, that's something you never saw before.
You now actually "look" at objects.

[X] Evasion: Dodging: 0+10 = 10

Satisfied, you make the trek outside, and call Lionbird down to you. The creature lands on the ground, kicking up dust that makes you cough slightly. The beast begins to eye you as you walk towards it, and tell it that you want it to try to hit you.

You then get sent sprawling along the ground when it swipes you with its paw.

You stand up and dust yourself off, "Not yet!" you say, and then you start to tell it your plan. Yesterday's fight made you realize something. You may be fast, but you only really know that when things are gonna hurt you that you can move out of the way.

But you don't know how to actually
dodge out of the way.

So, you want Lionbird to help you, by trying to hit you, while you try to dodge its strikes.

The creature looks at you for a second longer, and you're not entirely sure if you got through to it.

Then it squawks out something that you could swear was the word, "Dodge!" before smacking you with its paw again. This is gonna be a long night.
You now know how to actually dodge.

Week 4.2
[X] Spend time with Lionbird

You finally finish pulling all of the iron from your home into the yard, you start to head up the side of your barn. You figure that if you're going to make any major changes to the farm, you should let your other resident know about it. After all, Lionbird is still your guess.

You pull yourself over the top of the barn, "Hello, my fine feathered-"

"-friend?" You feel your motor skills shut down, as you behold what can only be described as a massive feathered warrior standing on your barn roof. It absolutely dwarfs you in size, reaching up to the tip of the roof of your house! You start to babble as you take one step back….and step on a twig from Lionbird's nest.

The creature's ears pop up, and it's head swivels around to lay it's feline eyes on you. Those eyes seems...familiar, however before you're able to study further, the visitor screeches and closes the distance between you in a second. You're instincts kick in, and you reach for your sword before you realize that you forgot it. Even so, you place your hands into a defensive stance-

[Empathy: 35 vs DC 35: Success]
[+10 XP]

-and then you stop.

You're not sure what it is, but...you know this creature. You look up into those green feline eyes again, "Lionbird?"

The creature cocks its head to the side puzzled, "Lionbird?"

You're taken aback at its...well, her, voice. It is soft, and sounds like the windchimes your mother would use to lull you to sleep at night, "Is...is that you? Or are you one of Kirean's friends?"

"I'm not sure who or what this 'Kirean' or 'Lionbird' is, but I am the griffin that has been living with you for some time."

Now it was your turn to cock your head to the side, "What's a griffin?"

Her eyes widen in shock, "You don't know what-have you been calling me-urgh!" She turns her back to you, puffing her wings out in what you think is frustration. Then she turns back her eyes ablaze, "How could you NOT know what a griffin is? Almost every other human I have met knows what they are! Have you been living on this farm your entire life?!"

When you nod your head in the affirmative, the griffin's anger seems to melt away to genuine surprise, "Wait...you've lived here….and haven't left this place….since the day you were born?"

"Ya huh!" You say back all smiles, "Oh! Except for yesterday when I went out side of the farm to explore my surroundings a bit!"

"......How old are you?"

"17!"

The griffin stands staring at you for a long time. It goes on for so long, that you start to feel a little uncomfortable.

[Karma Check: Positive]

That is until you feel yourself lifted off the ground and brought close to the griffin's chest. Her feathers tickle your skin, and you laugh a bit while in the embrace. After a few minutes she puts you back down, "I'm not sure whether to be mad at you for being so oblivious or to be happy that there's still some innocence left in this world."

She opens her wings and takes to the sky, kicking up dust as she rises. You're forced to cover your eyes to protect them from the sand and dust. When you can see again, you see the griffin flying above you, the sun casting a golden glow on her back, "I'm going off to get some more materials for my nest. I'll be back soon."

"Wait!" You shout out, "You didn't tell me your name!"

"Ah. It is Lexiy. Remember it." And with that, she flies away. You stand on the rooftop, waving your hand. After a few minutes, you jump down and crack your knuckles.

Time to get to work.

Like I said, I'm not dead.

Next post will deal with the Crit fail Luck Roll, Iron Walls, and Encounter Roll.

Also, sorry there's so little this time. I would've added more, but most of my writing energy went towards writing up an Artifact for my Exalted campaign from scratch.

Even when you're mostly stealing from the Core Book, those things can take a lot to write.

Week 4 End/Week 5/The Return
[X] Iron Walls: You have a lot of iron. Like...a lot of iron. You're gonna need to find something to do with the stuff. Well….the only thing currently separating your farm from the outside world is a wooden fence right now. Hmm… Builds a wall that will give enemies who attack your farm a -10 to Stealth checks.

[Luck Roll: 1 Crit Fail]

"Ok, start from the top."

You fidget, keeping your eyes on the ground, which is currently covered in iron blocks and dirt. "Well," you say, doing your best to not look Lexiy in the eyes, "I started by trying to punch the iron into manageable little blocks."

You can't see her, but you get the impression that Lexiy is probably nodding her head as you speak. Why did she have to come home JUST when things turned sour, "And...well I started to think….maybe I could do something more….impressive than just a normal iron wall."

By now Lexiy is probably raising her eyebrows, "Really?"

"I mean….why just make a regular old wall? That's boring! So instead, I was gonna make something that would really make the whole place…..
POP, I guess."

"And you were going to do this by…?"

You bite your bottom lip and wring your hands together, "I….
tried to turn the walls into cannons."

"You know there's no point in whispering, I literally have the ears of an eagle," you flinch and look up at your bipedal companion.

Forgot about that.

"And in the process of trying to make this 'Wall of Cannons'," why did she have to make the air quotes, "You not only destroyed a rather large section of the house, but you also turned all of the iron you obtained, into dust."

"Well, kinda, sorta, maybe….yes?" Why is she acting like this is entirely your fault?!

[Explosives: Overt: -20: Fail]

How were you supposed to know that putting certain types of dust inside of a confined space would produce an explosion large enough to launch a metal construc through part of your house?!

Lexiy shakes her head in disapproval, "You know, there is such a thing as moderation, right?"

"What does moderation mean?"

Lexiy shakes her head even more.

You flinch and offer up something, "Well hey, at least it can't get any worse."

[Encounter Roll: 19]

At that moment, you feel your heart drop into your stomach.

The entire farm has gone deadly silent.

The chickens aren't crowing.

The cows aren't mooing.

And the horses aren't nickering.

You look up at Lexiy, and see something that you haven't seen on her since..well ever really. The griffon's eyes had always had at least a tiny spark of pride in them whenever you looked at her. It was her staple as an Omega predator, what cemented her as top of the food chain around her Hunting Grounds.

It sent a chill up your spine to see that pride replaced by unmistakable fear.

Something's coming.

And it isn't friendly.

[Stealth Check: Passed by Lexiy!]

Clawed hands grip your shoulders, and the next thing you know you've been pushed into the dust beneath your feet. You prepare to protest, but a feather gets caught in your mouth as Lexiy's wings move to cover your back. Spitting the offending object out, you mouth, "What was that for?" You need to get up and protect your home!

Lexiy just stares at you intensely, ears swiveling to and fro trying to pick something up. You see her mouth, "Be silent," but you refuse. You struggle underneath her clawed hands, but either she is stronger than you, or the adrenaline in her blood is helping her keep you down. Either way, you struggle for all you're worth...until you hear the sound of massive wings beats fly over your location.

You're not sure what it is, but it's wingspan must be at least that of your entire farm as it's shadow easily covers both you and Lexiy once it flies past. The ground quakes underneath you causing the pebbles to bounce against your stomach rhythmically. You strain your head, trying to look up and get a good look at whatever it is, but Lexiy's wings are obscuring your vision.

You grit your teeth at this, but resign yourself to being still. You probably couldn't fight whatever it is up there anyway. Well, fight it
and get away without some serious damage to your body. It sounds pretty big, much larger than Lexiy is in both her forms. Still though, that doesn't mean you like just laying here and doing nothing!

You stop your struggling once the shadow passes over you. Then silence.

You stay on the ground for a good 6 minutes, your feathered companion's wings keeping your back warm while your front is on the cool ground. Lexiy's ears swivel in a full circle one last time, before you hear her release the breath she was holding and ease up on your shoulders.

As soon as you're free, you jump up and rush around the farm checking on all of your animals and structures.

Cows? Check.

Chickens? Fine.

Horses? Still here.

Crops? A-Okay.

Traps and otherwise? Completely functional.

You sigh in relief before walking over to Lexiy and giving her a smile, "Thanks for that. You really saved me back there."

She starts to preen her feathers with her claws as she speaks, "Of course. Now you can consider us even."

You cock your head to the side, "Even? You owed me something?"

She shakes herself in order to remove any stray dust missed from her preening, "Yes. During our first—encounter, you had every opportunity to kill me. Not only did you choose not to do so, but you took me in and gave me shelter until I was able to fly again. Because of that, I was...ever so slightly indebted to you. So, now we are even."

"Oh. Well, thank you again. Though I'm pretty sure I could've taken whatever that was," you absent mindedly rock on the balls of your feet as you speak.

Lexiy raises an eyebrow at your assertion, "Oh really?"

"Well, I probably would come out of it with most of my bones broken, my sword completely shattered, and I would have to be bedridden for about….5 months by the end of it. But I'm about 50% sure I would've taken it with me."

".....Nicol, do you understand what 'Pain' is?"

"Not entirely, but I'm learning!"

Good news! You're irrigation system is still intact!

Bad news! You need to get a new bed!

Your home was badly damaged after the Iron Walls fiasco! Will need to spend AP to repair!

[X] Call Kirean and hang out

Well this hasn't been the most...amazing of weeks.

You are currently sitting in the hole where your bedroom was, doing your best to avoid walking on the jagged splinters scattered here and there.

Between failing at building your wall, losing all of your iron, and blowing a hole in your house this could be considered your worst day ever.

But, you will not be beaten down!

Your Mama didn't raise you to be a quitter! So you're not gonna quit now!

You just gotta rebuild your house, and you'll get right back on track!

Just as you get ready to start rebuilding, your thoughts wander over to your God-Child friend, Kirean. No doubt he'll have heard the explosion from your recent blunder, and be worried about you. If anything, he's probably on his way now and is just waiting for you to give him permission or something. Might as well give the cub some peace of mind.

You take a deep breath in and shout out the wolf's name to the forest.

[Perception: Environment: 10 + Perception: People: 0 = 10 vs DC: 30: Fail]

A few seconds later, and you are once again tackled into the ground by the brown, furry blur known as Kirean. He quickly helps you up and looks at you with a worry plain in his eyes, "Are you okay?! I heard this big sound and it came from your farm's direction and I wanted to come and help but I wasn't sure if you needed or wanted me to help and I didn't know if you were in trouble so I—"

"Kirean," you say with as much softness you can muster at the moment.

The wolf cub stops his tirade, "Yeah Nicole?"

You start to rub his head and he nuzzles into your hand, "I'm fine. Just a little….accident."

His tail wags as you rub his hair out of place, until you stop and give each other some space, "Accident?" he questions. His eyebrows raise up a few inches as you show him the large hole in your wall that he just came in through. He rubs his eyes twice before turning back to you, "I honestly have no idea how I missed that. How did that even happen?"

"It happened because
someone was being careless," you audibly grown as Lexiy flies down to land in between you and Kirean, kicking up dust as she does, "Little miss inventor here tried to create a literal 'Wall of Cannons' and it ended up blowing up in her face." Her voice leaves absolutely no mystery as to what she thinks of your rather extravagant idea; reckless and foolish.

"I said I was sorry and that I would be more careful in the future!" you exclaim as a way to defend yourself, but you seem to fall on deaf ears with Lexiy.

Kirean on the other hand, is currently wearing the face of amazement, "You were trying to make a wall
made out of cannons?!" At your nod, he starts to jump up and down so fast, that you could swear he was a rabbit instead of a wolf, "THAT IS SOOOOOO COOOOOLLLL! Do you think you could make one for me?! After you, fix this place up of course. By the way do you need any help with this stuff?"

You grin smugly, and say that he is welcome to help out if he wishes and that you'll definitely think about getting him one. Though you are not sure what a God-Child would need one for.

"Just to have it! Duh! That sounds like the coolest thing ever!"

You think you hear Lexiy sigh and rub her beak at the both of you, "I'm surrounded by children."

All three of you share a laugh and (after introductions between your two friends) prepare to go about your day.

This is one way to bring in the new month you guess!
