Using this option would give the class improved sensors it seems like, and that's important for a science ship. On the other hand I really want to make a triangle shaped ship just because we can.

Triangular is quite close to canon, but a different shape. Ovoid is the canon intrepid.

No, you're right, Voyager had a secondary deflector and dorsal sensor suite, a la the ovoid hull.

so i pulled up the canon class and i found a major point we should change. for some reaason they split the T-10 phaser arrasy into a starboard and port array. i think we need to bridge that gap and mount a second array because even without the Uhaan hull's boost it will pack one hell of a punch for self defense. I've marked the rough ide of the change in green.

We lose quite a bit of cruise speed without the secondary deflector, and cruise speed is probably something we want on a long-range explorer. Something the Ushann is emphatically not.

moving the senors up feels like a good idea anyway. that carve out portion bothers me.
