The fact that the starving could have been avoided if the government were less...you know, monstrous doesn't seem to have occurred to that many of them.

Okampan Crew – the crew are bright, perky, cheerful, and incredibly psychically powerful. Individually, they're all better than Vulcans, and as a gestalt? Who knows!

I love it, it's exactly the kind of genre awareness I would hope to see in a seasoned Starfleet captain.
It does make sense but I'm wondering why no one else knows about it. If the Janeways are sharing a body they're keeping it a secret for some reason. And I can't figure out why - if it was a transporter accident or something Star Fleet would probably accept it while if it's some space-future version of DID surely Janeway isn't hiding important knowledge about her mental health from Star Fleet.

And if it is DID and the ship's counselor would normally know, why didn't she give anyone a heads up about this after what Q said?

Hi. Rain here, one of the two other people sharing a head with Inquiring Mind.

Sometimes, it really is just much, much simpler to keep this stuff quiet. A lot of people get really weird about it. And might get even weirder about it in someone who had command over a space ship loaded with antimatter missiles. Just how enlightened the Federation tends to be varies greatly based on the needs of the episode, so I don't blame her.

I do get keeping your mental details to yourself to keep things simple. But when you're in charge of a pseudo-military ship in direly unusual circumstances you really should make sure other people are aware in case somehting happens and they need to know you're not utterly insane or a itmetravelling ancestor. Heck, I could believe a psychic anomaly that makes it so Catherine is completely impossible to contact and only Phoebe is there when they're expecting Catherine to make command decisions.

[X] Plan: Cross-Purposes
Also, the note telling Katheryn and Phoebe they were both being served makes more sense now.

[X] Get Phoebe to the science people so she can be poked and prodded

[X] Valiantly allow science people to poke at her to see what is going on.

[X] Attempt psychic contact

I'd like to get Phoebe to the Ethical Medical Person, tbh. Not the Awful Science ones. She's a person and she probably needs a medical check for her own health.

We're gonna need a 2d20 from each Janeway to see who comes out in top! Then a 3d20 for the science nerds for their science bullshit!

You do make a solid point. Especially if they have any amount of involuntary switching it could be quite important, though Phoebe's comment after asking the computer to locate Kathrine maybe suggests otherwise.

I guess I figure they are entitled to their privacy and I understand wanting to keep it quiet, but you are probably right that it's not the best idea in practice under their circumstances.

CATHEXIS (1.2)
"Now, it's pretty clear what we need to do," Kat said.

"Oh, yes, I'm glad we're both agreed on that," Pheobe said, standing up.

"We need to make sure that no one finds out about you," Kat said.

"I need to get to your medical facilities immediately so they can find out why this happened," Phoebe said.

The two of them stood, silently, and for a moment, looked a great deal like twins.

The shuttle that departed from the USS Voyager was sleek, fast, and piloted by Tom Paris, crewed by T'are, and carrying as passenger and kind of rudimentary psychic smell tester, Kes. Kes was in the back seat of the vehicle, a phaser rifle manual in her hands as she flicked through it, shaking her head. "I've been on this ship for how long and I'm still finding new modulations for your phasers. How the hell do you even get particle guns to do this?" She turned the manual around, pointing at the confection coated target in the example's page.

"Oh, that mode is based on the polypraxic principle of interphased dimensional intersections!" T'are said. "See, there exists a multitude of various nearby universes, finding one entirely made of sugar is-"

"Ahem," Tom said. "We're at the big cloud of mostly nothing."

The three of them peered out through the front screen of the shuttle. The vast dark matter nebula was almost invisible, even this close, save for the faint twinkle it gave to the stars beyond it - created by the latticework of matter slowly shifting and twisting in space, covering and uncovering stars much like how starlight refracted through an atmosphere. It was eerie and beautiful - and it made T'are's eyes shine excitedly. "Okay, lets start with some low level tacyhonic pulses. Kes, can you keep your brain open for...you know, any changes?"

"Got it," Kes said, then drew her legs up under her. She breathed in, breathed out, then settled into her seat. "I hope this doesn't hit us like that planet that exploded."

"The one with the portals to the past?" Tom asked.

"Yeah," Kes said. "Half my friends on the Val Jean had headaches for weeks after that."

"Well," T'are said, cheerfully. "We're getting some interesting results back. I think..."

Kes breathed steadily.

Then, with a soft POP, a bright white frosted three tiered wedding cake appeared in the middle of the shuttle's cabin, hung in the artificial gravity field as if it was being suspended by wires, then dropped a few centimeters directly down onto the armrests between T'are and Tom Paris, splattering them both with cake, frosting and confectionary sugars.

Tom blinked.

T'are licked the cake from her fingers, then nodded. "It's angel food," she said. "Fascinating."

"Oops," Kes said, slowly.

The two of them turned back as Kes grinned, sheepishly. "I, uh...I was just thinking about cake..."

"Ooooh!" Kes said.

"I can't believe this. You're the Starfleet Captain! You're supposed to be all...pip pip cheerio, lets get this looked at wot wot!" Phoebe said, her hands on her hips.

"I don't talk like that," Kat said, frowning. "Listen...i joined Starfleet because I wanted to do the right thing. But do you know what I've learned? Starfleet isn't perfect." She shook her head. "Hell, the Federation isn't perfect."

"I know that much," Phoebe said, quietly. "The 24th century seems like a string of precarious apocalypses balanced on a house of cards, kept in place by last second gambits devised by a bunch of daredevil space adventurers."

"Oh, that's the obvious problems," Kat said, her voice bitter. "Starfleet is one of the most homogeneous diverse organizations I've ever been a part of. Five years ago...do you remember Captain Data? The android who got the Southerland a few years ago? Served on the Enterprise?" Phoebe nodded. "I was the XO on the Al-Batani, this was right before I was promoted to my first captaincy, and...the whole of Starfleet was talking about that...fucking trial."

Phoebe frowned, thinking back through her memories of correspondences. Her eyes widened. "Oh."

"The admiralty was ready to create an entire slave species because they were willing to overlook the humanity of one of their officers because he was made of silicone and carbon filament. Do you really think that those myopic, mainline politically minded jackals would hesitate to do worse to what a quarter of them classify as a psychological disorder?" Kat frowned. "I swear, it'll be hard enough to get them to give the Doctor the medals he'll deserve once we're back home at this rate."

Phoebe sighed, quietly. "That's starfleet. What about your crew? You know them. And they're here, while those admirals aren't."

Kat opened her mouth, then closed it. She thought, hard, then looked aside. "You...raise a good point..." She said, slowly. "This is quite possibly one of the finest crews I've ever served with. And it will be a long, long time until any of the Admirals can complain..."

"Thank you for that, by the way," Phoebe said, her voice a bit huffy. "All my fellow reenactors are going to be wondering where i went!"

Kat sighed. She sat down across from her sister. "I think part of it is also...when you spend your whole life keeping a secret, not keeping it gets...quite scary." She smiled, grimly. "So-"

Her combadge chirruped.

"Janeway," she said, tapping her badge. "What is it?"

"Captain," Tuvok's voice came through, crisp and clear. "It appears that the dark matter nebula has a psychoreactive matter induction field. T'are has determined that pulsing it with taychon signals causes it to activate and, from her determinations, produce from subquantum fluctuations matter and energy based on the thought patterns of any particular individual within proximity."

"...interesting," Kat said, looking at Phoebe, who looked a bit taken aback. "How did they manage that?"

"Kes accidentally created what appears to be a 21st century style American wedding cake from thin air," Tuvok said, with the calm, casual cadence he had when delivering news of the particularly weird.

"That makes two," Phoebe said as Kat frowned.

TRUTHS: "Dark matter nebula!"
MOMENTUM: 2

You've gained 3 momentum from your scannadoo, which I have CAVALIERLY spent one of to ask the question "what the nebula does." Then, I had the Janeways give their perspectives, with heat based on how many successes rolled! Now, you decide!

Choose One!

[ ] Phoebe thinks Kat is right
[ ] Kat thinks Phoebe is right
[ ] Both Janeways stick to their stubborn guns

Also! You can choose as many of these as you want
[ ] Try and use the nebula to create a path through it using psychic mumbo jumbo
[ ] Try and fly around it - this is too powerful and complex to risk damaging!
[ ] Use it to produce some valuable resource!
-[ ] Write In
[ ] Spend momentum to learn more about it (write in)

[x] They both successfully convince each other

I like the idea of both of them being convinced to reverse their position out of concern over harming the other. It is a touching way to show how much they prioritize the well-being of their sibling.
