TRAITS
Cardassian Ship – Durable, uncomfortable, close, cramped and cheap. Thinks creature comforts are for other people and technical sophistication is for people who haven't spent decades starving to death. The fact that the starving could have been avoided if the government were less...you know, monstrous doesn't seem to have occurred to that many of them.

Okampan Crew – the crew are bright, perky, cheerful, and incredibly psychically powerful. Individually, they're all better than Vulcans, and as a gestalt? Who knows!

Oh boy, we're onto our first Chakotay is a nondescript Native American episode. I look forward to the inevitable joke making fun of how the showrunners attempted to pass off magnets on a medicine wheel as good representation.
The show runners probably cast a native American actor first and then gotten consultants based on their tribe. Instead they hired a Mexican-American for the role, used vaguery/a made up tribe, and a known fraud to consult.

CATHEXIS (1.0)
The string quartet was utterly lovely - playing something sprightly and new, and the dinner hall was filled with quiet conversation. Janeway sat at the corner of it all and just enjoyed the peace and quiet as she sipped some lightly sugared tea. She was thinking of retiring to her chambers for a quick chance to pen a letter to her sister when a shadow fell across her and the table.

"Miss Janeway?"

She lifted her gaze and saw that a stern faced, dashing looking man with blond hair, broad shoulders, and a jawline notched by a long healed, glancing sword blow was standing before her. He wore a bottle green jacket with freshly polished hessians that stood out among the rest of the party - though, he wasn't the only soldier here.

"Oh, Captain Lawrence," Janeway said, smiling at him gently. "I didn't know you were back in England, I thought you were stationed by Gibraltar recently."

"We were needed back by Dover for defensive formation," he said, warming slightly. "I wasn't aware you kept so abreast of the gazette."

"Oh, my sister is the one who is so...ahem...invested in the service," Janeway said, causing the stiff necked man to color slightly - though, it was with a smile. "She serves on Voyager, a longwing with the Mediterranean fleet. Safe, last I heard from her. I was actually thinking of writing her a letter tonight..."

"I'm glad to hear that, and, of course, i shall leave you to that!"

"After this dance," Janeway said, standing up and holding her hand out with a little smile.

A sudden chirrups sounded and the holodeck froze in place.

"Captain," Tuvok's voice cut across the now still ballroom as Janeway closed her eyes, brushed her hair back and started to tie it into her bun. "We have detected an unusual anomaly ahead of the ship."

Janeway paused a moment, breathed in, then breathed out. "Sorry, Phoebe," she muttered aloud, before saying: "Computer, summon arch." The wall shimmered and she stepped out into the corridor beyond, where several crew were passing, glancing at her fancy dress. She gave them a stern look, then headed for the turbolift. The lift whirred, opened, and she strode from it to her room. Once there, she started to undo her gown - wriggling, squirming, then grumbling. "Damn it...why is this...thing so..." She growled, softly. In the privacy of her room, she could show frustration with the 18th century's idea of reasonable fashion. She barked. "Replicator, knife."

A few moments later, the tattered dress was being fed back into the replicator, to be reduced into feedstock, and Janeway was zipping up her uniform. She paused, there, sighing slowly, feeling a deep sense of disconsolation bubbling inside of her. She knew where it was from, and she shook her head, making a note to write a letter to Phoebe once this anomaly was examined. There was a fifty fifty shot that it'd either be incredibly boring or, alternatively, be the centerpiece of her next letter. Either way, it'd need to be...to be...

Janeway put her hand to her face, her eyes closing as she felt a sudden spill of dizziness sweep over her. She sat down on the bed, groaned, and then forced herself to her feet. "Gonna have to check with the Doctor on that," she whispered, then started out of the room.

Janeway laid back on the bed with a groan, her eyes closed.

The door closed.

And Janeway sat up, her eyes widening as she looked around the room wildly.

"...Katheryn?" she called out. The room chimed softly, the computer coming to attention, but when Janeway sat in perfect, stalk stillness for what seemed like an eternity, the computer stopped paying attention again. Janeway gulped, slowly, then stood up. Her knees knocked together as she stepped forward, then stepped forward again, edging closer and closer to the room's bathroom. Once she was in it, she looked at herself in the mirror, her fingers rubbing her cheeks. She looked down at her uniform, and nodded slowly. "Okay. Katheryn? You can..." She turned around, looking throughout the room again, as if she expected someone else to be there. "Katheryn, what the hell is going on?" she hissed softly. "Why aren't you saying anything?"

Silence.

Phoebe Janeway felt like she wanted to cry.

***
Katheryn Janeway stepped onto the bridge. "Report," she said, casually.

"We're approaching what appears to be a dark matter nebula," Tuvok said, while Harry Kim and T'are both bent over the sensors console. T'are tapped a few more buttons.

"A dark matter nebula?" Janeway asked, arching an eyebrow. "How did we even know we were running towards it - that stuff absorbs everything but tachyon scans."

"That's just what makes it so interesting, Captain!" T'are said, cheerfully. "It gave every Vulcan and Betazoid and other psychic or semi-psychic a headache. Since we got the premonitions, we started pinging local space with probes, standard practice, and three of them went into the nebula and their tachyon pulses started to get absorbed rather than coming back to us. That gives us an idea of where it is, and we've got one of the probes ready to try and sample the dark matter."

"Examination of dark matter in laboratories has, thus far, been an outstanding waste of everyone's time," Janeway said, frowning, before turning to Tuvok. "How bad was the headache?"

"Mild," he said. "But present enough and simultaneous with every other potential psychic aboard."

"How is Lieutenant Strong?" Janeway asked.

"Lieutenant Strong's abilities, while psychic in nature, are entirely inward focused. Biokinesis, not telepathy," Tuvok said, matter-of-factly. "If she felt any discomfort, her talents would have already self-corrected them. We've checked."

Janeway frowned. "Do we have an estimation on the size of the nebula?"

"Torres is prepping some warp capable probes to determine that, if it's big enough, we'll need to decide if we want to ford it or go around it," T'are said. "Uh, your orders on the probe, captain?"

Janeway rubbed her chin.

Huh interesting this suggests that Janeway might have dissociative identity disorder or some sci-fi thing that results in two people sharing the same body and they are now separate people due to todays negative space wedgie which begs the question of which is the original, of course I could be wrong.

Having Janeway be plural with a headmate she doesn't share memories with would be a new one.

The judge frowned. "Where is Phoebe Janeway?" he asked. "We chose this court, in part, for her."

"My client's sister has begged off arrival until an event currently three weeks upspin from my client's current conceptual zone," Q said, confidently as he nodded to the judge.
So say, how long has it been since the trial? Months, right? We spent at least one month at the dry dock doing repairs
"Seven slash Phoebe is going to be very popular," Q said, beaming at her

It's starfleet, they're constitutionally incapable of leaving random space holes un-probed.

Yes the innuendo is known and intentional.

I say, what's this, a Temeraire reference?

Probe! Probe! Probe!

That there is an interesting repurposing of the gothic horror holodeck program plot that early Voyager had running through it, though splitting Janeway here makes me curious as to how the plot of "Faces" later on in the season will progress given how its big thing was Torres being split.

We are very interested to see where this goes.
