Son Quest (Dragon Ball)

You mean the fact that Yamcha was basically lying to us about having seen a Dragon Ball, and not really wanting to make a wish?

Don't really think it's going to be that much of an issue. Though, it shows that we might want to raise our Intuition a little.

That would be the ones.

For instance, I'm pretty sure he has it ... and now that he knows he can get a wish, he's not gonna let this chance pass him by, particularly with the existent trauma of his family's brutal death and his humiliating defeat.

So basically, it's probably going to be an issue later on (he's going to insist on helping, or follow after us in our quest if we refuse).

And yes, Intuition is necessary - multiple characters mentioned the necessity of it in the advice session.

I think it's more likely that he hasn't seen the DB, and simply lied about thinking it might be in the treasure pile, so that we'd have a stronger motivation/reason to help him deal with Raion.

As for his wish, IIRC his canon idea was to use the wish to deal with his fear of girls.

Overall, I don't think it's going to be that much of an issue. It's going to damage Jin's opinion of Yamcha a little, but not too much. In the first case, Yamcha lied to gain assistance in dealing with someone who had done him personal wrong, and also posed a threat to others. Not exactly honorable, but understandable.

As for the second, Jin currently doesn't really have any intention of using the DBs himself, so he wouldn't care too much about who gets the wish unless it's something harmful, and Yamcha's would be fairly embarrassing, so it's likewise understandable if he wouldn't want to tell people he barely knows about it.

Unfortunately, though, not everyone who lies to us will be a rather decent guy like Yamcha. So, yeah...

VS The Desert Lion, pt. 2
[ ] Plan Lion slayers
-[ ] Split up and attack from all angles
-[ ] Goku uses his staff to attack from range going low to disrupt Raion's movement
-[ ] Yamacha is to circle around from behind focusing less on attacking and more on disruption
-[ ] jin is to keep his attention using Gate palm as necessary
-[ ] wear him down until we see an opening then strike as one in 3 different locations

"Yamcha, Goku, we should split up and attack him from different angles," you say quickly, keeping your voice low to keep Raion from hearing you. "Goku, use your staff and try to trip him up. Yamcha, circle behind while I distract him and try to disrupt his attacks. If we see a chance, we'll attack together."

Without a word, the two of them nod in understanding.

"Going to try something clever?" Raion asks loudly in an amused tone. "By all means, feel free. I love fighting the clever types, they get the best looks on their faces when their little tricks fail."

"Was it anything like the look on your face when Kairu sent you flying through a wall?" you taunt, hoping to get his attention so that he won't notice as Goku and Yamcha begin maneuver themselves into position.

Unfortunately, his attention isn't all you get, as Raion crouches down low before launching himself into the air towards you, roaring with fury.

Agility + Speed (10) vs. Might + Speed (13) – Failure!
3 Damage to Jin's Ki Shield!
Jin's remaining Ki Shield: 3

You try to dodge, but Raion catches your torso with his shoulder, sending you flying with him until both of you crash into the wall behind you, the stone breaking apart as you smash right through it and finally fall to the ground, coughing for air as the cheers of the crowd fill your ears.

"What's the matter, boy? You done already!?" Raion jokes, playing to the crowd. "I guess the baby dragon's teeth haven't come in just yet!"

You shakily get to your feet as the crowd roars and Raion laughs, standing in front of the ruined wall with his arms crossed. You see Yamcha charging him from behind. Good. Why not help with that?

"Gale Palm!" you shout as Raion turns to confront the noise.

"Wolf Fang Fist!"

Ki + Martial Arts (13) + Yamcha's Aid (5.2) vs. Ki + Might (14) – Success!
4.2 Damage to Raion's Ki Shield!
Raion's remaining Ki Shield: 1.8
Might + Wit (14) – Raion Success! (Difficulty 10)

AN: New rule – when assisting another character with a special technique, you add half your roll instead of adding half of one attribute.

Realizing he can't possibly dodge in time, Raion decides to block instead, hardening his muscles with ki as Yamcha releases a dizzyingly fast series of punches and kicks. His focus on that, he doesn't even notice you until the Gale Palm strikes him in the back of the head, causing him to stagger in shock and pain. His concentration broken, Yamcha's attacks break through his defenses, and as Yamcha ends his technique with a blistering uppercut, Raion's roar of pain rings through the coliseum and gasps of shock resound from the crowd as their king is wounded before their eyes for the first time.

Raion recovers quickly though, and attempts to charge Yamcha. But by now Goku's in position to try to do something about that.

Weapon Skill + Weapon Speed (9.5) vs. Awareness + Reflex (9) – Goku Success!

Extending the Nyoi-Bo towards his legs, Goku trips Raion, sending the Desert Lion falling flat on his face. If it weren't for how serious the situation is, you'd probably find it amusing. As it is, it gives you and Yamcha another opportunity.

Might (5.5) vs. Might (8) – Goku Failure!

Unfortunately, Raion takes an opportunity of his own, and grabs the still-extended Nyoi-Bo and sweeps it – and Goku – to his side, catching you as you're preparing another Gale Palm and sending both you and Goku flying.

Might (8) – Raion Failure (Difficulty 15)

However, as soon as Goku loses his grip on the staff, it suddenly pulls itself from Raion's grasp and falls to the ground with a loud metallic clang. Raion briefly tries to pull it back up, but even his freakish strength doesn't seem up to the task somehow.

Ki + Speed (10.5) vs. Ki + Might (14) – Yamcha Failure!

"Wolf Fang Fist!" Yamcha yells, charging Raion from behind again. Raion doesn't even flinch as Yamcha repeatedly hammers the Desert Lion in the back.

Yamcha stops as he realizes this. Looking around, he spots you and Goku just starting to get back on your feet, and his eyes widen in fear as he realizes you're not going to be able to help him in time, just as Raion turns around, a savage gleam in his eyes and a cruel smirk on his face.

"Rock-Smashing Fist!" he roars in triumph.

Reflex + Speed (11.5) vs. Ki + Might (14) – Yamcha Failure!
Yamcha takes 2.5 + 4 Damage! (Total 6.5)
Yamcha's remaining Ki Shield: 0
Yamcha's remaining Health: 2

"Yamcha!" you and Goku shout. Yamcha leaps back and puts his arms in front of him in a defensive posture, hoping to minimize the damage, or even escape entirely. But even with all of that, Raion's blow, glowing with ki, catches him and sends him flying straight through the coliseum wall. The former bandit smashes right through the wall and into the stands, causing many of the spectators to try to flee the human missile.

As the dust settles, you and Goku look on in horror, searching for some sign of movement. Your silent pleas are answered as you finally spot Yamcha, leaning in a sitting position amongst a pile of rubble, staring in undisguised fear at his shaking arms, where huge bruises are already starting to form.

Might (8) – Raion Success! (Difficulty 6)

Your eyes are brought back to Raion as you hear a loud crash. Realizing he somehow can't pick it up, Raion has instead punched the Nyoi-Bo so hard that he's embedded it into the floor. You or Goku could probably work it free, but that would take time and leave that person vulnerable as they worked.

"Divide and conquer; was that your plan?" Raion sneers. "Did you think I was some slow, stupid brute that you could lead around by the nose? I've been fighting for my life longer than you've been alive, you little punks! And yet you dare underestimate me!?

"Are you starting to see it now, worms!?" Raion roars, dramatically thrusting his arms into the air. "The difference between you and me!? It's POWER! This absolute strength that no amount of skill can overcome!

"Did you think I allowed my strength to stagnate in the last two years!? My strength has grown just as my army has! With my power, none shall stand before me as I take my rightful place!"

The crowd goes wild as Raion's monologue builds up steam. His voice is really starting to become annoying, but at least it gives you the chance to catch your breath.

So, you've taken some damage, Yamcha's taken a lot of damage, and Goku's disarmed. Any plans?

[ ] Write-In

Despite losing Yamcha, the situation is still pretty good. We delivered a big blow to his energy shields, only took minor damage in return, we still have our Pheonix Cap, and haven't burned any traits yet. Goku isn't even hurt, just doesn't have his staff. If we must, we could bring in Nimbus. I'm a tad wary to do that though, because if Raion turns out to have a Ki attack, he could destroy it

And thats what happands when you don't call in the nimbus sigh..

[X] plan nimbus turn 2
-[X] send the nimbus to block Raion vision.
-[X] tell to Goku to burn ststs and engage Raion while he is blined
-[X] Jin will retrive the staff and administer Ki Healing to Yamcha
-[X] when Jin finish, Goku should disengage hop on the nimbus and get ready to support from the air

Why you talking like it went bad, we only lost Yamcha. Fighting strength down to 2/3 (not even that low, considering how both of us are stronger than Yamcha), and he is almost out of Ki Shield.

And I don't know how good you think our healing is, but it's not good enough to get Yamcha in any shape while the fight is going

iirc nimbus doesn't show up instantly there is a time delay for nimbus to arrive. so it would have been of little help. if anything we should have taken the write in to get out damned teamwork up to scratch.

Sending Goku to attack by himself is not a good idea. The only time we've inflicted any damage is with a combo attack, he's no-selling everything else. Forget about the Power Pole, it's not worth retrieving until the fight is over. We need Jin and Goku to attack together.

How about we distract him with the Nimbus, and then stagger him with a Gale Palm. While he's off balance, Goku can attack with his Thunder Hammer. Hopefully this will take down his remaining Ki Shield and buy time for Yamcha to get back in the fight.

Yamcha is not missing an arm. He took a blow to his hands and his shileds are down. Ki healing can fix that

It takes time to get the full effect. The point here is to get him back into fighting shape. Not return him to full health

Ki Healing: A more powerful form of the Minor Ki Healing technique, learned by performing exercises from the "Dragon's Nine Yang Manual" and practicing the technique during your training with Goku and Bulma. It works exactly like the Minor version, but you are able to safely channel more of your own ki to heal damage more quickly.
Type: Esoteric
Cost: 1.5 Ki Reserves
Effect: Health and Burned Attributes heal at a rate of 3 points per day instead of 1, and Ki Shield recovers at a rate of 3 per hour instead of 1.

^ From our character sheet. It would take twenty minutes to restore even one point of Yamcha's Ki Shield. Hours to restore a single point of health. Not exactly viable in the middle of a fight.

I'm thinking we try and get around him to link up with Yamcha again, then burn some attributes and hit him all at once.

Plan teamwork

[X] Send the Nimbus to distract Raion.
[X] While Raion is preoccupied, Jin and Goku will close to melee range and attack simultaneously. Goku will use Thunder Hammer.
[X] The two will stay close together and aid each other in evading Raion's counterattack, using the Gale Palm and Nimbus as necessary.
[X] Work as a team and look for more opportunities to make joint attacks, while buying time for Yamcha to recover.

Plan is simple. Since Raion stomps any of them 1v1, Jin and Goku need to work together to stand a chance. Distract, attack, retreat, evade, attack. Hopefully Yamcha will recover quickly and we can finish this fight next round by burning attributes and attacking all at once. First we need to take down his remaining Ki Shield though.

Jin also really needs to learn some offensive techniques. As useful as Gale Palm is, it's not ideal when you need to inflict damage quickly.

Plan Teamwork without Trickery

We get -1,5 point on an unspecified number of checks "when attempting to commit dishonorable, underhanded or deceptive actions."
Leingod already said that blinding him with the Nimbus would count as such (similar to flinging sand into his eyes, for example), and we really can't afford the penalty.

To clarify, it would count for attacks Jin made on Raion while Raion was blinded. Anything else wouldn't get the penalty.

EDIT: And if anyone's wondering why it doesn't count as dishonorable that you're fighting him 3 on 1, that's because you gave Raion the challenge to fight like that up front and he accepted it willingly.

Raion's max check so far has been 16. We just gotta overcome that and we're good.

[X] Plan Annoyance

[X] You'll put on the phoenix cap.
[X] Combine your martial arts with ki to fight Raion offensively and defensively.
[X] Goku will hang back to assist you with his martial arts when fighting.
[X] Afterwards, use Gale palm and Thunder Hammer together if necessary. Goku can use janken-po afterwards to help you if his Ki goes low instead.
[X] If Yamcha recovers soon, he can assist you with his martial arts too.

That doesn't seem like it will do anything since we don't got any weapon to use.

We've burned all our attributes before making a check in the past, so it should work even if we choose one from a category of attributes like weapons. I did have that in the wrong format though. Also want to avoid burning before the enemy does too. Switched it out for a phoenix boost to take out his ki sheilds.

people don't forget about the phoenix cap that will improve our stats for one combat turn

Changed my plan. Should overwhelm the guy enough to take out his sheilds and force him to start burning.

Burned ALL out attributes, not just specific ones. Did it so that when we did have a check, no matter what the check was, we would have a bonus. Burning Weapons Skill will give us a bonus on the next check involving Weapons Skill. And since we got no weapon to use said check, it wouldn't get us anything.

I didn't understand the mechanic then. Thanks for clearing that up. Changed plan.

Thought we had a sword?
