Is it bad that that my reaction to the first chapter was, "Oh hey our friend's Alexandria. Oh shit, our friend's Alexandria. Waifu! Dibs!"

Or at least something along those lines. Although I don't know why I thought I'd have to fight a majority of the quest that didn't want to ship them

It's not bad at all. It simply means you're a wise, well-adjusted human being.

After all, you'd have to be outright delusional to reject something clear, obvious and inevitable.

Alexandria is a person who has a big potential for darkness inside her. I know this version of her hasn't done any of that, yet, but I don't know why more people aren't put off by all the awful things she did in the original story.

Of the Triumvirate, Alexandria was the most neck-deep in Cauldron's worst shit. I mean, sure she could still be guided away from doing that, but I wouldn't exactly be enthused about dating Hitler as an 18 year old, you know? "Oh, we'll encourage his art and keep him out of beer halls and it'll be great!"

Whoa there man, let's not get into Nazi comparisons alright? That rarely, if ever, turns out well.

I know (hope) you're exaggerating, but I would really not recommend throwing out comparisons to Hitler. That's like a step or two above general Nazi comparisons.

It's not like I'm comparing a real person. Alexandria is just a fictional character. But fine, whatever.

I wouldn't want to date Martin Shkreli as an 18 year old either... and I think we can agree that he's not as bad as Alexandria by a long shot. Her character may not be set, but it's not fully fluid either. She's still someone who ten years down the line could be mutilating people 'for the greater good' without blinking.

I think that's part of why the ship is so strong. She would stop if Alex asked her too despite her later nature. It's a pure version of love that totally goes against what she could become. She loves Alex in a way that is beautiful, a way totally at odds with what she becomes later, a way that can save her, and that side of her intrigues us.

For quite some time I wasn't really enjoying this quest. The MC went down a path that was a bit too angsty for me to enjoy at least not so soon. We get to see Alex get powers, use them a bit, and then go "woe is me" over them and continue to do so. It was just hit after hit. I think that it would have helped a bit if we got to see Alex express some wonder and spend a fair bit of time getting used to them before encountering stuff that lead to him fearing them.

Hopefully that time will be over soon.

While Alex x Contessa is the best...Alex x Rebecca is pretty awesome too for this reason.

I'm too heavily invested in the Alex X Rebecca ship to leave. It's gonna take sinking the ship to get rid of me.

I feel like this is most of the reason you guys stay, I accidentally made a ship and things sailed off.

No pun intended.

I am trying my best man. A combination of misunderstandings and votes turned it this way, but I hope I can get you back on track.

This quest is great. I mean it goes from a chator who has almost been given everything, to a person who now has to rely on themselves. Also the ship is great.

What's our ship name? It needs a name to be a true great ship. The best I'm coming up with is "The Weight of Knowledge" or "The Weight of Power" (yes I know they're not the best -- I'm bad at this)

Nice to see that Alex is gonna be taking a more proactive role in things now, but on another topic am I the only one who doesn't hate Cauldron and it's operatives.

I didn't think there was going to be a ship name. But I will not object to one.

Ehhhhh.... not really feeling it.

I like Cauldron, for a given sense of like and for certain members only.

We're seventy pages in Godwins law was bound to strike eventually.

OK! Moving on from that talk permanently alright?

but on another topic am I the only one who doesn't hate Cauldron and it's operatives.
High five bro!

They're people who tried their best saving the world while in a bad situation. It's easy to go 'why didn't they do this or that' when you know how things turn out and are sitting behind a computer desk.

Really, were it not for meta knowledge, chances are we'd end up screwing up harder than them in this quest.

The quest is young, good sir, the quest is young.

Let us take a quick look at all the problems that you haven't solved.

...

...

Pretty much all of them.

You'll have a chance to change them yes, but to that I say this.

Good luck, I'll be in this interdimensional bunker while you work. :V

You don't happen to subscribe to the players vs dm school of thought do you?

It's the old school thought that DMs are meant to try and kill their players rather than the modern idea they're story tellers. See Tomb of Horrors and the like

Oh god no, I'm not like that. If I was, you'd be dead already and we'd be going to a different thread for the rebut. I much prefer to make a good story, however, I am not opposed to the urobutcher approach when required.

It was a joke (mostly).

I figured.

But anyway, bit of an announcement. As of yesterday, classes started up again for me. So it's back to the books and such. I will do my best to keep up the weekly update schedule, but given how I've been on and off of consistency for that, it's up in the air.

In the meantime, I haven't seen anyone come up with a plan to stop David's mental hangups, or Rebecca's control issues, or Manton's.... well he has a fuck load of problems that I probably need a book to find them all.

Anyway, you guys get the idea. As always, I'll answer any question you guys might have when I am able.

I was also thinking of making a discord server in an attempt to streamline that, but I'm ok with making the thread a chatroom so long as it stays focused. (Looking at you @Takoe, looking at you. :V)

It's the old school thought that DMs are meant to try and kill their players rather than the modern idea they're story tellers. See Tomb of Horrors and the like

Saying the DMs are trying to kill the characters is maybe a little inaccurate. It's more that the DM sets up a world, usually a very dangerous world, and then tries to play absolutely neutral arbitrator and has the world react in whatever way makes the most sense in response to player actions. This means that if the characters stumble across something dangerous beyond their ability to handle the DM won't act to save them even if it means a premature, unsatisfying end to the campaign. It was their fault for not being more careful, or maybe just their bad luck, and the DM isn't there to save players from lack of care or bad luck.

Of course, this also means that if the players inventively come up with some way to achieve massive victory with little risk, the DM will also go along with that. It's not his job to make things more difficult in search of a more satisfying story.

It really comes back to treating the game as a game first and a story something to be applied retroactively to the events of the game. The DM is expected to act like the rules of a board game. If you have bad luck and draw a bunch of bad cards in a board game, there's no rule to let you draw extra cards because it would be 'more interesting' if it's more competitive. Like that.
