We voted for the option that at its most basic, is "don't use your powers to solve the problem." Basic pattern recognition should've told everyone that this was going to happen. I mean, fiction has things like this down to a formula:
  1. Hero accidentally kills, harms, or destroy someone or something and becomes scared of their power.
  2. The next time a situation occurs, the hero will do literally everything except using their powers.
  3. The situation gets worse and the hero learns that they can't run away from their powers and need to learn how to control it.
The only reason why 3 is happening now is that people voted for us to do 2. If you want him to man up, vote for things that'll make him man up.

Huh, I wasn't at all expecting that vote to lead to running in like a complete moron, oh well.

[X] Save yourself

sigh at this rate I say just level everything, full power black hole this damn place

Well that was unsurprising all things considered. But you get what you put in, no one's going to do everything for you.

I'm genuinely growing frustrated with Cauldron and Alex. Alex is indecisive regardless of what choices we make. We vote to intervene in the fight and Alex trips....Contessa and Doctor Mother are not helping in the slightest, being monotone and cryptic. At this rate, I would be glad if we are given an option to back out of cauldron and do our own thing while pitching in when they request some help occasionally.

can we vote for Alex's mind to break and just go catatonic? seems like we are heading that way anyway.

Huh, I wasn't at all expecting that vote to lead to running in like a complete moron, oh well.

... I feel like I should either explain something, or apologize for something.

Honestly, the fact that I don't know which is a problem in it of itself.

So if I need to explain something, tell me and I'll try my best.

If I need to apologize, I am more than willing.

[X] Pray that someone saves you.

The both of them need a wake-up call on the consequences of their actions and maybe what heroing mean is rescue and not always fight to the death
what better to get them to learn than a damsel in distress

Well he is no Damsel but right now he is really stressed out

It never fails. We always try and out-think the QM, and we always pick the stupid option because of it. Just once, keep it simple.

Nah don't worry, I'm just frustated with the voters that didn't wanted to use our powers, we can change reality with a thought, we need to accept that.

I know, I know, it should be in a calm pace, but! It's seems like that world isn't going to wait for us to find our center, so I really think we should focus in accepting our powers, later we can take measures to make sure that we keep our humanity but for the moment we need to accept that we're a Demi-god.

So I'm asking myself, what is the purpose of this vote? What do these two choices mean?

It's structured so it seems like an obvious no-brainer. Of course Alex should save himself, right? The entire update and being chewed out over not acting by Contessa points to that end. Why would anyone vote for him to wait for someone to save him? But that doesn't make any sense. What's the point of a vote over a no-brainer?

So maybe instead it's meant to be a referendum on Alex himself and audience satisfaction with his role as the protagonist.
Did both of you miss where I asked IKowNothing about what the vote meant and he confirmed my guess.
This vote is a structured no brainer because it's not a choice for us questors it's a significant change in Alex's mentality when it comes to approaching problem.
Basically it's charectar development
[ ] yes
[ ] no
Nows the wrong time to complain.

We're just frustrated at how Alex handled things like an idiot. Which is to be expected, since we technically voted for it, but it's still frustrating. I mean...

Your finger twitches, and you force it under your leg. No, you can't use your power here. If you do there's no telling what it would do.

If you hurt them now, you wouldn't forgive yourself.
Hurt Alexandria and Eidolon.

And then he religiously stuck to not using his power. Just useless flapping his mouth and tripping over a rock.

Frankly, I'm with Contessa here. I hope this gets him to grow a spine already, because this was just teeth gnashing.

That being said, no, there's nothing wrong with your writing. Alex's acting in-character, and the vote reached it's logical conclusion. I mean, why else would Alex not use his power, if not because he's afraid from it?

It just seems like some of the voters didn't consider that Alex still has some trauma from the last incident.

Essentially I thought I was voting for the "Be calm and try to talk this out first option", not the "freak the fuck out fall over yourself like an idiot option". I didn't go for the no powers options becuase I was thinking he would be afraid of hurting Alexandria and Eidolon (though maybe the bystanders, I guess).

Honestly, with him freaking the fuck out like that, I'm glad we didn't pick a use our powers options, might have led to blowing up the entire building or something.

Well to this I have to say, what has Alex actually accomplished on his own from what you've been told?

The only thing even slightly going in his favor was that he was able to keep a job while going through high school despite his situation at home. And the only other thing, was that he went to give Rebecca some company while they were in the hospital.

Beyond that, he never earned anything.

He was given a brother who was willing to teach him about the world.

He was given a sister who was outgoing enough to help him understand how to talk to rational people

He was given a cure to cancer.

And all he's done, is use those gifts to, in his mind, only make things worse for those around him.

That being said, this next vote is going to change his mentality, so we all can finally get rid of the fumbling idiot Alex.

And say hello to the hero, Atlas.

Hurt Alexandria and Eidolon.

Remember, Alex has never asked Rebecca what her powers were, because he was too busy trying to keep calm from his mental breakdown or shock of killing someone. He has no clue she's invulnerable.

Hell, she doesn't know she's completely invulnerable! It took tanking a few bolts of Behemoth's lightning to prove it to her.

Honestly, with him freaking the fuck out like that, I'm glad we didn't pick a use our powers options, might have led to blowing up the entire building or something.

If you had chosen to intervene with your powers, you would have seriously hurt the room yes. Everyone would have gotten out fine in the end, but there wouldn't be an office floor remaining.

As for everyone else's complaints, I am working on it.

To prove it, I want to say here and now that I want to live up to the title name.

And make this guy,

(Special thanks to @Ronan O'Brien for his work, you're amazing man.)

The kind of guy people look up to. I will be putting my all into this story, because right now, I've never felt the kind of drive to finish this.

I hope you guys can stay here and help me get to that point, so thanks to everyone that has commented, and will comment.

Methinks there's a mistake in the title of the most recent threadmark. Unless it's a very cunning and elaborate reference to something, it should be "Watching Titans", not "Watching Titians".

Ah, you misunderstand me. What Alex said and acted by is understandable and in-character for him and what he knows.

I was talking about the meta experience; how it felt from my POV OOC.

You know, the reason the update was so frustrating :p.

As I said:

Just because something is understandable and true, doesn't mean it's not going to be frustrating to read through. ;)

The update's fine as it is; I don't see anything you can do to 'improve' it without making Alex do anything OOC.

I'm too heavily invested in the Alex X Rebecca ship to leave. It's gonna take sinking the ship to get rid of me.

Is it bad that that my reaction to the first chapter was, "Oh hey our friend's Alexandria. Oh shit, our friend's Alexandria. Waifu! Dibs!"

Or at least something along those lines. Although I don't know why I thought I'd have to fight a majority of the quest that didn't want to ship them
