[x] So, what do these two think about the whole sub-Persona thing?

Oh, now this could be a fun one!

It also probably says something that it's easier to think of a new second Persona for Chidori than it is for Junpei, so... something that could happen in the distant future, maybe. Ideally after getting out of Yasogami.

"Do you like to draw anything else?" You ask. While you aren't generally privy to the things that fill Chidori-san's sketchbook, it can't all be Shadows, Personas, and all of the ways they can effect the world, even if that probably provides enough inspiration for a whole gallery.
For the one I knew, there were a lot of pictures of Junpei-san, but their relationship was weird by literally anyone's standards but theirs.
She shrugs. "It's mostly just... whatever comes to mind. A nice cloud, an interesting person... It just doesn't... normally mean anything."

Morgana tilts his head to the side. "Normally?"

She doesn't respond to this. She doesn't particularly look like she wants to, but she doesn't even have the chance because Theodore steps out of the Velvet Room carrying a long list.

"I'm sorry for the wait," He apologizes, attaching the paper to the side of the fortunetelling booth with strips of duct tape covered in a cute blue strawberry pattern. "I was thinking about the best way to organize things- by person, or by Arcana, and of course there's how certain bonds correspond to a different numbering system... Functionally, they're almost identical, but even these slight differences can be a lot to overcome!"

Looking more closely, it appears that he's decided to list things by what Arcanas each person is capable of using. Quickly finding your name on the list, it turns out that you can use Personas from the Fool, Magician, Empress, Lovers, Hermit, Hanged Man, Star, and Moon Arcanas, as while as your form of Justice and both versions of Strength. It's a longer list than you would have expected- had someone asked you which ones you were capable of using, you would have only listed five or six of them!
Sometimes, it's easy to forget just how many people care about us.
"Huh." Yukari-san stands beneath the list. "Looking at it... we mostly all share the same Arcanas, don't we?"

"It's not that much of a surprise, is it?" Makoto-san asks. "It's like Liz says, you can use different Arcanas based on the bonds you have with people, and these are... mostly our Arcanas. I'm not... actually sure where some of these come from..." He looks a bit confused, but shakes his head. "It... probably doesn't matter."
I guess that does make sense. It does explain why Akihiko-san and Shinjiro-san's lists are nearly identical.
You sort of get it. Actually, looking at the list, you can easily see where almost all of them come from. The Magician Arcana can come from either Morgana or Junpei-san, and the Hanged Man gives you just as much a Maiko impression as a Chidori-san one, for some reason, but other than that... Even the Hermit, you're pretty sure could be matched to Futaba, if she grows up to be anything like the person she is today.

Chidori-san doesn't say anything when she looks at the list, but she seems... almost upset, for some reason.

You wonder what that's about.

Either way, it's about time to return to the Labyrinths, particularly now that the sub-Persona situation has been tidied up just a bit. Elizabeth was even willing to lend out a few Personas from her own Compendium, though this, she warns, is a one-time deal- the rest of the Personas you use will have to be put together by your team.

Given the sort of extensive negotiation it sometimes takes for a study session to happen, you don't have a very good feeling about your potential future Persona stock.

Still, at least things have been settled for the time being. After seeing all of your options, you decided on...

[ ] A sub-Persona from Makoto-san's stock.
-[ ] Leanan Sidhe, the Empress.
-[ ] Pyro Jack, the Magician.
-[ ] Valkyrie, the Strength (VIII).
-[ ] Narcissus, the Lovers.

[ ] A sub-Persona from Elizabeth's stock.
-[ ] Obariyon, the Fool.
-[ ] Andras, the Moon.
-[ ] Rakshasa, the Strength (XI).
-[ ] Nue, the Hermit.

[ ] Not dealing with the hassle of a sub-Persona at the moment.

Where is Elizabeth getting her Compendium from, because Obariyon is P5 exclusive?
Well, first, Obariyon actually first appeared in Persona 4, it's just easily overlooked because there's like three Personas in the game that people actually seem to care about and one of them is Izanagi.

But seriously, if it's ever been a Persona you can fuse, you can assume that Liz has access to some form of it, so long as it's not a given character's main Persona.

So indeed it is, doesn't that make me look like a fool.:V
What's the third persona, because I know the second is Yoshitsune?

That said, do sub-personas still have levels and skills on level-up?

Magatsu Izanagi, and I'm pretty sure that's more because he looks cool than anything about his performance in combat. (Okay, so technically two out of the three are Izanagi... There' might also be people who use Izanagi-no-Okami for things, but if so, I haven't come across any of them.)

Yes, but it'll be scaled down about as much as everything else for the sake of sanity.

Probably because by the time you can fuse him you really don't need him anymore.
Sure, Victory Cry is nice, but regenerating from Hassou Tobi with Arms Master isn't that hard either.

[X] A sub-Persona from Makoto-san's stock.
-[X] Narcissus, the Lovers.

So - as I've never played the game what are the considerations of the choices? Paging anyone that's actually played the game, because stat boosting abilities/ status effects/recovery abiliies/attack and elemental things are all of differing effectiveness depending on the game.

The man draw of the sub personas, at least to me in the Q games, is that they give a buffer of bonus HP and SP. This bonus buffer will get used up before your actual HP and SP, and the max bonus is reapplied at the start of every fight. If played right, this can really up your staying power in the Labyrinths.

Don't know if that's going to work that way in this quest.

Having a non magic option seems like an alright idea.

My normal go to strategy for this game is normally to give Ken a high SP Persona and a Light Strengthening skill and just have him Hama Everything up.

Not fully sure how important this is actually going to be, but it's best to have it just in case!

Shadow in Wonderland- Part 1
"I see... so Rakshasa is your choice?" Elizabeth holds the card as if it is the most precious thing in the world. "It does not have a variety of powers attached to it, and it overlaps, somewhat, with what you already have, but it will protect you, and grant you strength in battle, if that is your desire."

Thinking about it... isn't that what a Persona is basically meant for? And with that Arcana in particular. "I'm sure. This is what I want."

Dropping the seriousness completely, she tosses the card at you and you have to scramble to grab it before it hits the floor. Accepting it as a Persona you can use is simpler, as you just hold it to your heart and let it settle there.

You don't feel majorly different, but it's just a bit simpler to draw lightning to your fingertips, and you feel somehow safer than you were before. You still aren't sure this extra power is entirely necessary, but... as long as you have it, you should be able to use it to protect yourself, as well as everyone else.
...You know, this isn't so bad. I could get used to this.
You find yourself agreeing. Rakshasa doesn't say anything, simply settles silently within your bones as if he's always been there.

Is this what it feels like to be Makoto-san?

Returning to the Labyrinth, you step back into a world of bright colors that smells faintly of oranges and cardstock. You are surrounded by the ticking of clocks, and looking around, you can see the occasional face with a frame the exact same shade of blue as Zen's watch.
...Huh, they are the same color...
"This place still looks a lot different from anywhere I've seen in Tartarus," Yukari-san comments, looking around. "Who's turn is it on the map?"

"It's Junpei's turn," Akihiko-san sighs.

Shinjiro-san groans. "Great, we're doomed."

"Hey! I'll have you know I've completed the first floor of Etrian Odyssey one hundred percent! And I'm almost done with the second one, too! ...If it weren't for those Angry Wild Cows..."

Makoto-san blinks. "Don't those games have thirty floors in them?"

"Dude, spoilers! ...Also, I was hoping nobody would realize that..." He seems to be actually disappointed that somebody else knew how far his game went compared to how far he'd gotten. "...Actually, how do you know that?"

"I'm waiting for the third game to come out. Haven't played the first two, but... that's what the internet's for." You have exactly zero idea what they're talking about. Hopefully, you won't need it.

Either way, you are about to, once again, try and make some amount of progress in this Labyrinth, and now you have a bit more to think about. Specifically, which Persona's powers are you going to try and rely on more for the moment?

[ ] You'd like to test out Rakshasa.

[ ] ...You'd prefer to keep relying on Nemi.
