Non-canon mini-Omake: Outshone, by AilingStar
I'm not even sure if this counts as an omake, but...

Outshone (or: Expression 10)

Mitsuru shook her head. this was, frankly, embarrassing. How had Ken managed to become their diplomat? He was Ten years old!

And he had already convinced one member of Strega to defect, and now he was working on the second.

"So that's why I think our own opinions are what matter most," Ken told the grenade-thrower. "I mean, if that opinion is that someone is right and you should follow them, that's fine, but blindly following someone can make you lose sight of why you joined them in the first place.

Jin was actually listening.

What was this world coming to?

Communication Failure
It comes to mind, but after telling Kirijo-san about him, you really should talk to Morgana. Just so he doesn't get confused if she ever decides to seek him out, and you're pretty sure he will. The novelty of a time travelling, talking cat isn't really something that can be ignored.

So you find yourself back at the shrine. Thankfully, Morgana's actually here today.

"Did you want something?" The feline asks, stretching himself out lazily.

"Well, I just... there's something we need to talk about."

"Well, don't keep me waiting, then! Go on!" Right, he's not all that patient... not that you're entirely sure how to explain this, but you might as well go ahead.
Just start with the telepathy thing and go from there, that usually works.
"One of the people I'm staying with, Kirijo-san... she has powers that let her read minds." Probably not the best way to bring up the topic, but whatever works. "And... something happened, last week. I had to go with the others into the Shadow nest, and she was scanning things for us, and her powers sort of picked up on me being a time traveler."

This gets his immediate attention. "You- you're like me?" Didn't you already mention this?

"Yeah, I- I thought I told you before." Actually, you distinctly remember talking about it with him. Sort of. "I only really remember a few things, but... it's enough." You're not going to mention the girl this time. You're pretty sure that's the reason that the last conversation went all weird like it did.

"Well, I don't recall anything about you being a time traveler," Morgana points out. "Anyway, you put her off the trail, right?"
Yeah, [about that....
"Um..." You're not really sure why he'd expect you to lie to someone who you live with, and that can be really scary besides. But, then, that can probably be excused by him having never met Kirijo-san. "Actually, I sort of... told her everything?"

"...By everything, do you mean...?"

"Okay, not exactly everything, but she does know you exist, you've travelled through time, and you can talk. I didn't even mention your Persona." You hope that's enough to reassure him, even if the two of you don't really talk about the time travel thing all that much.

He doesn't seem satisfied. "And you're sure you can trust this person?"
She means well, she's just... not good with people.
"I live with her. I sort of have to." Besides the fact that your older self knew her. That she was important, in some way, and you completely understand that, because without her you just know that Sanada-san would have gotten himself killed raiding Tartarus by now. Probably dragging Shinjiro-san with him, because that's what the two of them do. And then you'd be all alone.

"That's not how it works, though!" You're sure that, if Morgana had one of the more reactive elements, his supernatural capabilities would have just revealed themselves. More than they usually do, anyway. "You can't say things like that to just anyone, that's how Crow found us out last time!"
I'm not sure you have that much room to talk, there. If there were others who could understand you...
You're not really sure how to respond to that, because he's never reacted to anything quite this strongly before. "She was already figuring things out on her own, though, it... probably didn't change that much."

"That's not a good thing!" Okay, you should probably leave before you say too much of the wrong thing and cause a sudden windstorm to brew. "Hey, don't ignore me! Get back here!"

Somehow, you don't think you'd handled that as well as you should have. So, when you next go to the library with Maiko and Akira, you look to see if there's any books on how to talk to people.

As this library has a bafflingly-wide selection, of course there are. There's also medical texts, for some reason, but you avoid those. You've got Dia, what other types of healing would you need?
Maybe one that doesn't require consent? Some people will only accept the kinds of healing they can't turn off.
Akira seems sort of surprised by it. "Am I allowed to ask, or...?"

"I made someone upset with me," You explain, deciding to leave out the fact that said person was a cat. "I- I have some idea about what I did wrong, but... I still don't really know for sure, or how to make it better."

"Do you really need a book for that?" Maiko asks. "Maybe if you just say you're sorry..."

"Oohashi-chan, this isn't one of your magical girl animes." And you're honestly not sure how to apologize, either.

Maybe what you really need is a book on cats...

"And that doesn't really work, anyway," Akira adds. "People don't... they don't really forgive, that easily. If at all." Why is it that every time your friend opens his mouth, you end up getting more concerned?

Not that you voice that, instead looking through the pages, and... well, okay, just by looking, you probably needed this thing, if only because you doubt you would have been able to figure out a lot of the stuff here from example. Mostly because your older friends are, for some reason, not the best examples of communication skills.

...Actually, thinking about it, they just might be worse than you are.

That's a scary thought.

Maybe you should fix that?

[ ] Check out this book, bring it home, make the others read it.

[ ] Check out this book, bring it home, offer it to anyone who shows interest.

[ ] ...It should be fine. If they've all made it to sixteen with whatever social skills they have, it should probably be enough for them.

[X] Check out this book, bring it home, make the others read it.

Maybe we can make someone in SEES actually social..?

[X] Check out this book, bring it home, make the others read it.

Normally I'd say let them do it on their own. But knowing how fucked up SEES is...

Also, Morgana's memory is fucked. And that's concerning.

[X] Check out this book, bring it home, make the others read it.

They will learn. Even if we must force them to do so.

[X] Check out this book, bring it home, offer it to anyone who shows interest.

Don't want to be too pushy about it.

Right. Everyone needs communication skills, even if they've managed to go sixteen years while somehow not acquiring any.

-Vote Closed!-

Now, as for how much they'll actually take from it... that's debatable.

What do you mean managed? Shinjiro is suicidal, Mitsuru spams Marin Karin and is rich as fuck, and the less said about Akihiko the better.

How To Talk To People
You know what? Why not? What's the worst that could happen?

...Okay, so there's a decent chance of them taking offense to you implying that they don't know how to communicate. Even if they really don't. But it'll be better for them in the long run, you're sure of it!

"I'm gonna go check this out real quick," You tell your friends. "I think the other people I live with might need to read this."

"...Aren't they in high school?" Akira asks, more than a bit nervously. You nod.

"Yeah, but that doesn't mean they can talk to people. Maybe this will make Sanada-san and Shinjiro-san fight less." It's worth a try, right?

Neither Akira or Maiko seems all that convinced, but they're not the ones who have to live with them, so their opinions don't matter as much right now.

Besides, you're pretty sure they just don't want you to leave the table. Sometimes, being the oldest can get really annoying...

Now that you have a library book on communication skills in hand, it's time to try and introduce it to the people you're living with! Because they really should know these things by now, but apparently don't.

As for how you'll present it... for a moment, you consider outright throwing it at them, but that could damage the book, and you think the librarian might actually sort of like you now, so you're not going to do that.

This leaves asking nicely. Or maybe just shoving it into their hands and hoping that they read it before giving it back, but that's a bit less reliable... asking nicely it is, then.

"So, I found this book in my school library that I think all of you should read," You state as soon as everyone's home, because you really don't want to put this off.

Kirijo-san levels her gaze on you. "A book from... your elementary school library." Well, okay, anything would sound bad when you put it like that...

"Hey, there's a lot of strange things at that library," You protest. "There's mythology, tarot cards... I saw a medical textbook there earlier today. Don't worry, I'm not making you read that." Not when you're half certain that the school nurse just put it there to refer to later. It's the explanation that makes the most sense, anyway.

"Then what do you want us to read?" Shinjiro-san seems... well, okay, nobody seems to be particularly enthused about this, but it's for their own good, really.

You pull out the book, presenting it to them with a bit more of a flourish than it really needs, but you feel like being dramatic today. "I know none of you are good at talking to people. So you can read this, and figure out what you're doing wrong!"

Shinjiro-san's response is predictable. "What if I don't want to learn how to talk to people?"
That would explain how you somehow failed to pick up any social skills in sixteen years...
"Then you and Sanada-san keep having dumb arguments about things that don't matter until you somehow manage to actually hurt each other." Because, really, you're not sure how any friendship could survive for over a decade and still be built on constant fighting.

"I'll read it," Sanada-san volunteers, almost immediately after you're done talking. You think you'll count that as a good sign. "Come on, Shinji, you know the kid's just trying to help."

"Well, I don't need help." It goes unsaid that none of you are going to justify that with a response.

"What about you, Kirijo-san?" You ask, while still handing Sanada-san the book. He did say he'd read it, after all, and that's better than anyone else.

"I am... unsure that will be necessary," She responds. "I have never really had any problems with getting people to listen to me, and that's the part the matters, correct?"
Marin Karin is not a proper substitute for social skills. Even if you use it on everybody.
"I... don't think it works that way," You point out. "And getting people to do what you want is different from having friends, isn't it? Wouldn't you like having friends?"

Kirijo-san considers your words for a few moments, and then turns to Sanada-san. "Akihiko, I would like to see that book once you're done with it."
In Mitsuru-san speak, that means 'yes', by the way.
You think that can be classed as some sort of victory. Even if it's a small one.

The next time you dream yourself to Nemi's room, you're standing at the door instead of laying on the bed.

A quick observation tells you that this is because the bed is already occupied. Your Persona is tucked away under the covers, shivering in his sleep. You don't know if that's a good or bad thing, but you can only assume that it'd be okay for you to leave it alone.

A second glance tells you that's not all that's different about the room this time. There's a new picture on the desk, right next to Maiko's. It's Morgana, shifting between the form that you've come to know, and another that looks like it could be the mascot of a magical girl show. A form which you've never seen before.

Honestly, though, after everything that's been happening recently... none of this really surprises you anymore. You're not sure, but you don't think that's a good sign.

[ ] Nemi doesn't look entirely comfortable... you should wake him up.

[ ] ...What happens if you walk back out the door?

[ ] The closet still reminds you of the entrance to Tartarus. You're sort of wondering about that.

[ ] Okay, there's clearly something up with the pictures, and you need to inspect them.
-[ ] Which one?

[X] Okay, there's clearly something up with the pictures, and you need to inspect them.
-[X] The boy with the spiked collar and the girl

Let's learn about a time god. We won't learn a lot, but something to go off of is better than nothing.
