Stress made us blow up in his face... To be expected.
One thing kids Amu's age really detest is being treated as younger than they are. Compound that to the urgency of the matter and the possibility of being sidelined when participating could save lives and it's a good thing Amu didn't burn one mote to show them totemic Dawn.

Yes I know this I too was once young, er. Like I said, stress made us blow up in his face.

I couldn't decide whether or not to do that, so for /once/ I rolled some dice. Amu made her temperance check.

Speaking of which, and although I don't consider this binding, Amu rolled eight dice for her planning phase and got... 2, 7, 10, 5, 9, 10, 2, 8.

Bloody solars.

...
Speaking of that little confusion... and potential other ones...
How long would it be before they would find biggest, meanest and scariest looking sergeant in JDSF and assign him to Amu as adjutant? Because it something that do make people listen to tiny girl...

Naw, it works better this way, once she has Exaltation back online. Cute, tiny girl except when shit's going down, then SOMEHOW she looks like an army shattering nightmare. Who is still adorable. But in a terrifying way.

No, she doesn't. Or at least she doesn't without expenditure of exp and essence. And sends a wrong message. We want helpful image, not scary one.

Not a pro at exalted lore, but...

The baseline Dawn anima provokes morale checks in it's own right.
1. Aren't it only works on enemies? And we want it resolved before that. Obtrusive bureaucrat pissing Amu enough to consider him outright enemy is NOT a good thing.
2. Aren't iconic anima banner flashes only after serious mote expenditure?

Also - minions exist for reason. Solar should not deal with stupid bureaucrats going "but you just a little girl". Especially when time is of importance.

You can spend 5m to activate out from a cold start.

That said, yes, a Dawn Caste turning their Anima on you is explicitly an existential horror, that can and Does apply even to things that Fear is alien to when you pick up Shedding Infinite Radiance.

That is still 5m better used elsewhere and gives a wrong message. "Bodyguard"/handler/problem solver that suggest people to shut complaining and do as expert says (even if expert is tiny girl) IS much better, cheaper and sensible solution.

That said person knows protocol and can actually be called when calling scary not-exactly-goddess is not advisable is enormous plus for people in power.

PS. Also with Amu's mentality she would suck in a serious fight with human enemies even despite all her powers. And her powers are better used elsewhere too. So somebody to act as shield from minor annoyances and weak offenders is a big plus.

I wouldn't be against this idea. But let's finish solving the Dubhe Problem First

I mean, Ten Successes pretty much guarantees he gets wrecked with minimal cost, and then we can take a nap and hopefully our Exaltation will be back online before Merak shows up, because if we're using Anime Merak in terms of proportions... That's going to get unpleasant.

Anima Effects:By spending 10 motes of Essence, the character can appear huge and terrifying for the remainder of the scene (or until she chooses to let the effect dissipate). The character appears taller and fiercer, with a terrible visage, burning eyes and a deadly rending grasp. This effect comes into play automatically once the Solar spends 11-15 motes of Peripheral Essence.
Unless a creature has a Valor greater than the Ascending Sun's Essence, he is unable to look directly at the character or strongly oppose her. The Exalt gains +2 to her DV against affected characters. Players of mortals must also make Valor rolls for their characters when they are facing one of the Bronze Tigers. Mortals (and normal animals) that fail flee in terror of the wrathful apparition that confronts them. Golems, automata, the walking dead and other creatures that do not know fear cannot be affected by this anima power
1 and 2 answered. Nope and nope. It's just straight out an existential terror, and can be activated automatically by high essence expenditure or just manually activated.

More practically, reputation, achievement and organizational rank does it just fine without needing something as clumsy as a big burly guy to establish credentials. Amu is hardly difficult to recognize.

This is correct

Authority tends to speak for itself. Hotsuin, for example, is only a few years older than Amu and her friends, yet hes had JPS at his feet for years by this point

Only he prefer to travel in company of several "suits"... probably because he is not taken seriously otherwise by those that don't know him already.

There were thousands in JPS alone before all this, add to that JDSF, police, various bureaucracies and it becomes a fine mess. Amu can't afford to flash anima every time something stalls because people do NOT know her already. Fumi gone "fuck it all, I'm calling Emperor" for reason.

Except Hotsuin only did that when actively dealing with people that didnt take him seriously due to his, age. And that was all done in the name of VIP treatment, anyway

Amu would neither need nor want her own convoy of bodyguards, especially when the only people she needs to try and exercise authority over in the future will be ones shes already earned the respect of

Introducing yourself by advertising your credentials in MegaTen is a great way to turn off the protagonists, anyway. Appearing personable at all times is best, even if it results in almost-snafus like this one

Also, Amu can instantly demonstrate her unusual nature by lighting up her Caste Mark(1m, doesn't do anything but glow), which would at least let people know not to take her at surface value. She is also very charismatic, persuasive, a capable warrior and a polymath, all of which goes to superhuman if fused. It would take only moments to convince people to at least hear her out.

Just befriend them on her own merit and wow them with competence. She's not the type to want special treatment for it's own sake.

And in what way this would affect meeting protags? Because, well, protags usually AREN'T part of obstructive bureaucracy.

The point of having a bodyguard is that they do their job

Which means they stick around you

And,having a big ugly dude shooting you mean looks is a great way to distract you from hearing out the otherwise appealing offer being made by said bodyguards charge

Charismatic, yes; persuasive, no. Her personality and looks tend to speak for themselves, but what they say is "Cute kid", "tomboy" and/or "firecracker". She lacks the skill to pull off appearing as anything other than what she is, or for that matter to deliberately adjust anyone's perception of her; she'll always make an impression, but she doesn't really get to choose what that impression is.

Right now, for the average adult, it's stretched between "I wanna hug her, comfort her or possibly just get the fuzzies from watching her" and "Ohfucknodearlordwhat" if she goes into full Dawn mode. Both are strong impressions; neither are quite what she wants. She sticks out, yes, but she's charismatic - not manipulative - and she's decidedly subpar at adjusting that impression.

On the plus side, Amu does favor Presence, so we'd have an easy time grinding that up. Ran has Performance as a Chara ability as well, I believe Dia does as well

So socially, we have a good foundation.

That being said, while our Plan is likely to deal with Dubhe, and likely earn poor Amu the downtime she needs to rest, recover, and get the Exaltation back online (Which we Need, we can't afford Any More Limit after we pump the War Excellency).

Fortunately, 10 successes equates to a very, very good plan.

Either way, our current setup leaves Amus social skills in a good spot

If we can get people on our side by taking advantage of their protective instincts towards children, then Im more than fine with that

Anyway, I did some number crunching, and I think we'll be okay. The Primary Channel should be coming online sometime around 4 PM on Monday, which should be in time to do mission control for Merak. Who has no real gimmicks, but is primarily a beatstick. Even if we don't have the time to spend XP against it, we should be able to coordinate any defenders.

Secondary Channel 1 will be reactivating sometime on early monday morning, though I don't know if that brings the Exaltation back online.

Secondary Channel 2 won't be fixed until sometime wednesday though :(

I actually wonder if there would be Merak as Conception fucked things up. Dubhe can be exception as it was already there.

...

And I'm really not sure that it would be good thing if there wouldn't be Merak as it means that top spot is kinda empty and shit can be fucked up in several ways...
