Shards of a Broken Sun [Deprecated; see link in final post for remake]

When you get so lonely you create your own sisters
ShadowAngelBeta and I had a lot of fun working out Amu's exact backstory.

It turns out we were operating under a common misconception, as Tsukasa is not in fact "elder Tadase", but his actual uncle -- the time loop was never stated explicitly, and is in fact a common misunderstanding of the (rushed) final manga chapter. Unfortunately, it's also far too deeply embedded in the background mechanics of Shards to be removed, so the time loop is still in place here. Considering just how common that misreading is, I suspect nobody would have noticed the mismatch if I didn't mention it now.

The storyline consequences of that are fairly minimal. Amu's backstory doesn't get any better, it just means there wasn't canonically any even worse, pre-time travel timeline. Oh well.

Bonus: I've worked out that there are exactly four people in Japan who could have pulled off what Amu did with the Conception, had they had a Solar exaltation to do it with. Three of them are Amu, Hotsuin and Utau. The fourth, I don't think would have tried.

I've been re-reading the threads, again, while at work. It helps pass the time.

I mention this because--

It came up once, and I didn't correct you at the time. The native elemental affinity of Amu's "heart-beam" is Curse, not any of the others. Exa added Expel, but that was taking advantage of Kagutsuchi's assistance and can't easily be repeated.

You sound almost disappointed by the lack of a bad end timeline. :V

So her heart-beam deals both Curse and Expel at the same time? That should help against quite a few demons if elemental weaknesses still work mostly the same way as in the game.

It certainly could. You'd need to spend a bit of time (and XP) working on it, that's all. More on that later.
So now we just need to weigh the advantages of having a very effective personal anti-demon weapon that also happens to make Amu even more of a cliche Magical Girl versus those of investing the time and XP that would require into all the other Charms and projects that could potentially prevent the further end of the world as we know it. :V

Actually, I just remembered plan "Make Hotsuin bust a gut" is a thing, so count me in for making a more effective heart-beam. :V :V

Does seem a fairly good investment at present. We got a lot of the Long Game stuff queued up, but we do need this for the Short Game where we aren't really THAT impressive a combatant outside of playing by a different ruleset

I'm thinking our long term goals are:
- Not die
-- Include as many people as we can in the 'not dead' category
- Get out of the vortex world
-- Remaking the world to our own image/how it was before via Kagutsuchi being one way
-- Meeting with Polaris may very well be another way

The End?
Okay, fine. It is probably time to acknowledge that I'll never be able to restart this story.

...unless I restart this story. It may be impossible to resume it where we left off, but that doesn't mean Amu would ever stop nagging if I do nothing at all. So... I jammed a spoke in the wheels at an early stage, and something quite different popped up. It's still the same story, fundamentally, but it may be quite a different experience at first.

If you don't join me there, I'll understand. If you do, well–

Here's hoping this turns out to be fun!

It's that time of the millenium, apparently.

You know, the time when I decide it's time for a retry. A couple of things prompted this, ranging from not-getting-it-out-of-my-head (for nearly a decade!) to... did you know that Shugo Chara is actually resuming serialization in 2024?

Regardless.

Shards of a Broken Sun [Persona/Shugo Chara/?] Crossover is a thing now, apparently. I'd be happy if any of you decide to join in.

Unlike my previous attempt, I decided to just... restart it, simple as that. No overly clever setting changes. It's just Amu, pretty much the same as always, and we'll see how she does in a slightly more forgiving scenario.
