It's Back! :D

...
It's really not relevant to current update...
...
But for me it's first time seeing Amaterasu as Moeterasu.

What really funny in the video is how Tsukuyomi (one with moon tiara to Amaterasu's sun tiara is Tsukuyomi, right? Why the hell female though? Too much Touhou probably...) goes from Yare-Yare to Moegenki to Nyahahahaha/Nishishishishi.

No actually. Tsukiyomi is a bit like a mellow Luna I think, he/she can change genders. Its a moon thing I think.

Actually, I think Tsukuyomi is male, but looks androgynous. Japan has had a thing for bishonen for a long time. The artstyle also doesn't help much to identify either way.

Yup, that vote is called.

Now that I'm explicitly putting it in writing, I wonder if any of you guys figured out what's up with Io? Well, if not, you'll find out soon. Teagan knows, which is part of why she was frozen.

Turned into a Fey, but still looks human? Mab "healed" her, said she changed her/turned her into a demon I think, and she's not in her human body anymore... Not sure of anything beyond that?

Well, I'm not sure but my gut tells me it's related to this

And wasn't there something about fairies twisting their words?

"I notice you didn't tell me what the countermeasures are for," she accused. "Or, for that matter, what I'm supposed to owe you. You didn't say."

"I did not wish to complicate matters, and I believed you'd be able to guess." Mab raised an eyebrow. "Or do you wish me to define every possible term? There are demons who take pleasure in claiming that 'up' means 'down', but I am not such a one."

She did not, Io noted, actually answer her question. Oh, this would have been so much easier if she could just run her through.

"So did you save my life, or not? Yes, or no?"

"Without my summoning, there would at present be no-one calling themselves 'Io Nitta' in this world—"

"Yes, or no!" She growled in frustration. "In the first place, my name is Nitta Io, not the other way around. You're not even trying! If you were trying, you wouldn't be talking about someone who doesn't exist. If you want me to help, then tell me straight, and you have to stop lying!"

"Lying, is it?"

Mab had gone quiet, her voice deceptively soft.

"Such insolence. Such disrespect for the ancient arts. Alas, hope reigns eternal… vespids, and humans, I should have expected that such a combination would become something like this. You want me to get to the point? As you wish."

Well…

"Then, allow me to rephrase my request. The hour grows late, and one must make allowances for youth." Mab pointed at Teagan. "This one asked for my help. Knowing what it would cost, she pleaded with me to restore Io's life. As the object of her mercy was not dying, there was little for me to do, but a deal is a deal." She grinned, toothily. "I did soothe her pain. As to you, you are now one of my kin, and as unexpected as it may be, I will hold you to higher standards than the likes of a High Pixie."

Eh?

"I recommend that you learn circumspection before you consider confronting me once again. Angering powers is rarely a clever move." Her expression grew distant. "Or even lesser beings, for one such as you."

And if my gut isn't wrong...

Note how Mab refers to Io in the third quote. she always refers to the unconscious Nitta Io separately from the Pixie Io. "Her", instead of "you" and "yours".

Then, after telling she "did soothe her pain" she says "As to you". Taken together, this seems to indicate that Nitta Io and the Pixie Io are different entities, or at least that Pixie Io isn't exactly the same as Nitta Io. However, without Pixie Io, there wouldn't be an entity calling themselves "Io Nitta" in this world. Somehow.

Pixie Io is one of Mab's kin, and it also appears that Mab herself was surprised that she was created/she became one of her kin, given she said "unexpected as it may be", but that might just mean that she meant "unexpected as it may be [for you]"

So... Pixie Io and the unconscious Nitta Io are not quite the same entities, without Mab's intervention Io wouldn't have died (immediately), but she also wouldn't be entirely "in this world", whatever that might mean. If Mab wasn't lying, that is.

It's difficult to call yourself something when you're unconscious. What with not being able to say or conceptualize things intentionally.

Exact words.
Good catch.

Now, with that in mind, let's look at this bit again.

Io herself notes how Mab avoided answering a question she asked, and there's no reason she would stop with the next one. Now, she also says that without her summoning there wouldn't be anyone to refer to themselves as "Io Nitta". If she is not, in fact, lying, then her summoning and interference is directly linked with Pixie Io's... birth? Manifestation? something like that.

If you add in the possibility that Pixie Io's manifestation surprised Mab and was thus unintentional, then that means something reacted or interfered with whatever Mab did to "soothe Io's pain". Possibly her powers as a medium, or maybe Chara related shenanigans.

I think I've rather given up on the notion of "schedules".

No, this isn't an update. It's more of a notification, I suppose, that after an utterly ridiculous last half-year where most of what limited time I had for writing was spent on Song in the Fog, fighting past an inability to actually do so, I've finally gotten rid of my writer's block. About two weeks ago, in fact; I'm no longer just staring at the same paragraph for hours on end.

So there's going to be an update, and it's going to be soon. Possibly today, but that's the sort of promise I've learned not to make. Either way, it features Utau quite heavily.

Since I want to keep up my momentum on this, I'll be splitting out that part of the storyline and proceeding asynchronously, as there's still likely to be two or three updates left on where Amu is right now. The idea being that you can then take as long to vote as you need. But we'll see.

...is this sort of post useful? I've generally preferred not to write them, but no-one's complained about Einsig's yet soo... there you go I guess?

Huzzah! Girl needs hugs.

Kind of, its nice to know this is coming back and general idea of what we're going to be doing.

This was always one of the harder and more bittersweet quests. I love it, a lot, but we're a Solar who has basically no chance of being anything other than a big fish in a small pond... when SMT is an ocean. A Solar who hasn't pulled any meaningful wins out of their ass except once... and we're a fucking Solar.

That's basically the last thing a Solar ever is. Its also probably a chunk of the reason we're so slow with voting, we're waiting for someone with a winning vote to show up, but there isn't one and so we eventually cobble together a vote so we don't lose, but... *Sigh* ... We also really need some Socialize and Bureaucracy cause fuck all those guys.

Sorry everything about this quest is rushing back all at once.

Also, I'm fine with more-or-less asynchronous updating. A bit of a handful to keep track of maybe, but fine. *Is really hoping nothing bad is about to happen to Utau* Oh, god, why'd we leave best girl behind, she's probably going to get brainwashed isn't she? *Paranoia onset*

Huh if this is coming back then it is time to reread it again.:D Not that I am complaining this is one of the most interesting exalted in another setting that I know of.

Utau was always interesting the other times we had her on screen so to say and it will be nice to see where her character goes from here. Cant remember but her backstory trouble has not been solved yet so are we going to see anything of that? Would be nice to have that as a "win" so to say.

And that's with what's basically a cheat like hax Solar Dawn caste... who... well I guess the cheat and hax ended up getting used to become a really warped Dawn caste and only really getting more off track...

Well it should be interesting how long one can keep on going not losing. If one keeps that up long enough, who knows, maybe one can win via shear stubborn attempts at trying to keep everything going and just never lose?

This is another nice thing about the warning, those ho show up in time to see it can go back and re-read parts/the whole thing to remind us where we were/what we were doing.

I know, Twilight or Zenith would have been better, but I don't think any of us were expecting enough of the Earth to survive to even need any of those really... except Occult of course. We went in expecting Survival-Horror and got Orginizations Being Dicks... also Generals Can't Take Any One Being Better Than Them, Especially A Little Girl.

*rolls around in excited anticipation*

Edit: also yes more support for Operation: Be Good At Macrosocials/Redtape

I support this proposal. As cute as it sometimes is, and despite Utau's defence, watching Amu flounder at everything social is getting a little old. She's capable enough with... er, kids her own age.

That depends on who you ask, I suppose. More on that in the chapter.

This part of the story is from Utau's perspective.

Again, not something we were expecting to need:
I know, Twilight or Zenith Eclipse would have been better, but I don't think any of us were expecting enough of the Earth to survive to even need any of those really...
We were expecting SMT protag bullshit, not what we are dealing with. Dawn ended up being a crap-shoot, and we haven't even been able to put much XP in any of Dawn's stuff either cause we don't need it... yet anyway. I still really want the "Shoot to the Horizon like you're standing right next to it" series of Charms though.
