I think I should point out the obvious benefits both short and long term actually being Clan Heir can bring us here.
What's the point in being hated or shunned by your Clan or being branded with the Caged Bird Seal?
With Clan Heir we could potentially later on merge both Main and Branch houses and rework the seal to actually do what it is supposed to do, something we can't do as the other choices.

Actually, your special advantages for allowing yourself being not the main heir are twofold.
One: Clan politics are decidedly more in your favor, what with almost half the family having seals on their heads, and the Main family won't do something stupid and kill everyone.
Two: Your parents are extremely competent in their given field (hint hint,)... even if they're dead. So they can help you.
The only thing that I can say for certain is that being the clan heir or right-hand means playing a Game of Thrones, with very little in your favor unless you are willing to kill at least 100 people. Or play the long game
Caged Bird means... when they come to a knocking, you better answer that damn phone Shinji!
Very improbable, if only because, depending on the time period you are in... you might get demoted or downright murdered by your own family.
Or destroy the whole Main clan by yourself like Itachi because some motherfuckers refuse to listen to reason.

Firstborn son to the clan leader would mean Hiashi at this point, and I'm intrigued by being the older brother to Hanabi and Hinata. We can give her some confidence while also trying to be all cool like Itachi. I love that premise and even more, we can be friends with Itachi if we push for it - imagine the heirs of the Uchiha and Hyuga being best friends.

Ehh...In a world with super magical ninjas and child soldiers a KD of 100 is considerably low I would say, so I'd be down for it if need be
Dunno, Clan Heads have pretty much full control over the Clan including its laws and such as far as I'm aware, not counting if there is Council of Elders atleast since those would probaly be a pain in the ass to deal with.
Neither would I see the point in killing of the main branch of the family should changes be done over time and not all at once...you..know..the reasonable way.
Tho the mention of exceedingly competent parents does sound interesting I must say.

I think we just wanna avoid the whole slavery thing, as in being a slave. Either way we're limited and controlled by our clan, only one entails direct control enforced through the Caged Bird Seal, and the other is done through political machinations and responsibilities. I think it would be interesting to be Clan Heir of the Hyuga.
Umm, the "branch family" is everyone who isn't the current head and his kids. MOST of the clan is Branch.

I means... I'm not saying that destroying everyone and anyone who knows how to use the caged bird seal to prevent future generations from being enslaved by their own family is a good idea, nor am I advocating it in any way.
However, the option is open, if I somehow disgust you enough with my deep hatred for people enslaving other people, and writing it with the appropriate vitriol and hatred I can muster.

I think Plan Treason provides a new perspective by being a branch member, and the offspring of a traitor. Also, rooting for the underdog is more fun than rooting for the guy who is better than everyone else.

I mean... I'm not saying it's not going to happen... but you are the one who will be in the driver's seat because your have to stoak the flames and give it life if that is your choice.
Hyuuga are many things. people who are willing to rebel against tradition are not one of them.

"Everyone and anyone" would be (assuming Heir) us, our dad, and our Grand Dad. That's a pretty short list, and would actually push the ratio farther away from half.
For there to be half, like you said, you are either going AU on how the clan politics work, or there are at most 8 people in the entire clan.

It would be so if not every other story makes use of the underdog trope in one way or another, hell most stories are in a way iterations of this trope, always being the little guy standing up for the other little guys...its..nauseating in a way.
Also the Traitor start seems to be worst start of the lot. If we would want a branch family start then the Favorite of the Branch family or what it is called seems to be the better option.

For naruto quests its more common to see a prodigy rather than an underdog though. The traitor backstory will probably face the most adversity, but that just means that those challenges can be used to build the character.

I think all these plans have opportunities to be a fun experience. Personally, I'm interested in the third age as either the son of Hiashi or Hizashi, because that's where New Hope or my plan place us, and the idea of being an older sibling to either Neji or Hinata/Hanabi is something that really peaks my interest.
In other news though, I'm less interested in being physically enslaved by our clan, and at least from a position of power we can attempt to reform things, even if there are a multitude of road blocks along the way. You know what we'd need to go free as a Branch Member? An expert Fuinjutsu user to get rid of the seal, and from then on we'd be on the run, because that's pretty illegal according to our clan laws.
That's my reasoning for the choices I'm supporting.

There are a few more members "Main Family"
The Heads Family, The Heirs family (if there is one, most times there is not), and a single member from the Branch family that is chosen at birth to be their representative at clan meetings that make sure that the Branch families inquiries, demands, petitions, and representation are met.
That is all. at most 10 people, and one of them from the Branch family itself.
