Restoration Negaquest: An offer to band up

Result:
Lanolin as out of action for next week
You have become aware that the Mafia is in your territory
Black Market actions in Green hill Zone are in flux

Brightness said:
Well, that interlude was a mess… I mean, we suspected going in that it would be bad since they only hide the roll with an interlude if it's particularly good or bad but I wasn't expecting it to be quite this much

Seriously, how were we meant to expect a random Mafia base in our territory?
Shoot_First said:
Those damn Mafias hurt our best combatant? We need to hunt them down; they can't get away with this!

We're getting a Trickery action to do this, right?
One Dragon said:
Well, we knew there were other groups around but I didn't think a single crit fail would be enough to put us in combat one… gonna need to look into who else is around so we can avoid more surprise firefights.

Lanolin being down is big too, we might want to act a bit more conservatively with plans next turn
Ciao Chao said:
Certainly not the best result but
We're getting a Trickery action to do this, right?

You think this takes precedence over going after Bark and Bean? Or the mercenary group that was trying to incite us to fight Eggman before we're ready?
Shoot_First said:
Damn you're right… there are so many people we need to smack down; every time we try to focus on someone, some other idiot shows up to mess with us.

Whisper should have stuck around; there are people in need of shooting
Myriad Flame said:
Not a great result but, hey, the Mafia probably have some interesting weapons; maybe we can take those if we drive them out.

That was the last of our interludes, Rival Reports up next
Blazing Fighter said:
Shame this went poorly; it's always rough when we lose a fight.

Ganberre Lanolin; we just need to train a bit more.

Still, good thing that Amy is due back; a proper dedicated combatant might be just what we need
Ice High said:
So, the Mafia's in town for us to root out?

Could be pretty interesting; pity it doesn't quite seem Adventure-worthy; our struggle with action-economy is really making things hard

Eggman Empire

Create Ring Retrieval Units DC??
?? + ?? + ?? - ?? = Critical Success
A new kind of badnik has been seen zipping about the Green Hill Zone; with a small design, the typical colour-scheme and faces inspired by Eggman, these are not combat units but rather seem to have been made for the purpose of collecting Rings.

While you're glad that it doesn't seem to be a combat model, the fact that Eggman seems to be building up something that require Ring power is concerning.

Develop those "Magic Wards" for Egg City – DC65
?? + ?? +?? - ?? - ?? = 156 Critical Success
A witch was observed near the perimeter of Egg City, marking places and engraving etching with the assistance of a squad of Egg Magicians.

The end result of this was a set of teal barriers were erected around the edge of the city; from the casual analysis of your expert, with the way these wards seem to be weakening the flames nearby, they're probably better than the ones you set up with GUN… weird, Eggman always seemed to have trouble with magic in the past.

Eggman has something to say to us…
Blazing Fighter said:
A lot going on, everyone taking care of the flames makes sense but that Empire build up is pretty worrying.

Great move from Knuckles in giving us a bonus next turn… too bad his people are stuck in mud huts.

As for Eggman… I wonder if the messenger is jumpable
Shoot_First said:
What the hell? We're taking visitors from Eggman? Why aren't we just kicking them out immediately?

Detain them now!
Ciao Chao said:
Something to consider about the messengers which no one has mentioned so far is this:
Upgrade Factories with Badnik Technology: Logistics DC 100 (DC reduced thanks to ???)

The Empire is definitely stepping things up too… question is whether they've allied with Eggman or they somehow managed to make the insane DC to get his technology.
Mirror Beam said:
Lot of ups and downs here; I'm glad that Ko's doing okay, at least
Brightness said:
Seems like everyone is getting some level of success this turn... except Knuckles and his housing; I would like to help him with that but we've kind of got a lot going on.

Hopefully the message isn't like a declaration of immediate intent to invade
Ice High said:

Eggman wouldn… okay, that absolutely sounds like a thing some versions of Eggman would do but I don't think it's likely considering the fact The Empire attack him recently

Interlude: An offer to band together

You are Jewel the Beetle and you are steeling your nerves as you wait behind your desk for the visitors to come; all you really knew was that they sent a message ahead requesting to speak with you on Doctor Eggman's behalf.

There are various reasons why a message such as this could be sent but can't realistically think of any that would be actually good… this was going to be an omen of some sort and you could only hope it wouldn't hurt anyone.

A squeeze on your shoulder grabbed your attention, reminding you that you weren't alone; Tangle offered a slight smile from where she stood slightly behind your left side. In a seat against the wall to your right is the Rookie… you're a little annoyed by the shoe he has resting on one of your cushions but his presence is also helpful.

Lanolin's absence can be felt as you liked having her in meetings like this as a steady presence but you certainly weren't going to impose on her rest right now. It should just be a talk; you can handle that.

You didn't sign up to do any of this stuff, it was draining in a way you couldn't put into words.

A knock came at the door; firm, yet polite.

You closed your eyes, inhaled deeply before exhaling, "Come in."

The door opens to reveal a female human(?) with hair in long green twin-tails, walking with surety into the room, transparent briefcase in hand, trailing behind her were three hedgehogs, a green male, and two pink females. You noted the similarities between one of them and your former leader but it's obviously a counterpart or alternate or… whatever the appropriate term for this otherworldly business is, of your predecessor. You hear a slight motion from Tangle but don't take your eyes away from the visitors.

You take the initiative, trying to project an aura of confidence, or at least hide how tired you feel, fingers steepled on the desk, "So, you're here with a message from Eggman." a statement of fact can help ground you in situation like this, "As you likely know, I am Jewel, these are Tangle and Rookie." You gesture to each of your friends.

The human(?) smiles at you, "It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Hatsune Miku, with me are my bandmates, Sonia and Manik. Also, joining us is Rosy, who doesn't quite have a role but we're happy to have her. We've been sent as a neutral party with an offer and request from Doctor Eggman."

That was probably good; the opening meant they were capable of actual diplomacy and if they didn't work for Eggman directly then you could potentially push a bit further. You noticed the slight grumbling under the green hedgehog, Manik's, breath.

"And the topic of this offer?" you keep your voice steady.

"A cessation of hostilities until the threat known as the Black Hand has been eliminated or at least mitigated." Is the prepared response.

You're ashamed to have blinked at that, caught off guard; obviously you hadn't expected a surrender but this was likely better a threat or declaration of war. You wave a hand for her to continue.

"While you're no doubt aware that the Black Arms are a dangerous faction, recent study has indicated that they might be more so than previously known," The woman carefully lifts up the transparent briefcase up, allowing you to see the contents as a folder and a drive before she opens it. She picks out the folder and holds it out, "Doctor Eggman feels that these new discoveries require an amount of focus so would like to enter a ceasefire until such a time that this is no longer a worry."

Before you can reach out to take the folder, Tangle has already walked around the desk and grabbed it from the offering hand, starting to flip through quickly before she placed it on the desk before you. Rookie stood up from his seat and came on over to also take a look.

The woman continued, "Within the folder is a summary of the situation, while the drive contains a full analysis, along with the thought process that went into discoveries and various further theories of what they might be capable of. This is being offered along with the request for a ceasefire."

From what you've seen so far, the Black Arms are indeed more threatening than you were aware; the depth of this hive mind was certainly not something you could think of an answer to. While you weren't an expert the information seemed legitimate and you were fairly sure that Eggman's pride wouldn't allow him to fake such data.

Still, as the leader of your people you had a duty to everyone; you couldn't tie yourself to an enemy solely for the sake of solving a single issue, even if it was a big one.

You look up at the visitors, noting Miku's earnestness, Sonia and Manik's pensive expressions, as though they weren't sure they were making the best choice, and the vacant look on Rosy's face. You don't really know them enough to say more than that.

A safety period where you wouldn't have to worry about Eggman would be a useful to help shore up various lifestyle problems that had been occurring, let you train some new forces and recover what you could… and that was before you got to the possible assistance that could be gained if you played this right; Eggman's infrastructure was very solid and could help with some potential issues.

Part of you wished you could just pin this all on Amy like she had done to you almost a year ago but that wouldn't be fair, not just to her but also to the people of the Restoration who shouldn't be treated as a burden to play hot potato with. Not to mention the fact it wouldn't even work on account of some people viewing her as too flaky to be a leader given how long she was gone.

This was such a big decision, you need more time… wait, that's it.

You could ask some clarifying questions, if they aren't willing to answer those then they look untrustworthy, meaning you can get rid of them, and if you do then you at least have some more information.

Though, obviously not too many the stalling will be obvious.

.

According to the summarised information provided, the Black Arms is a full hive-mind and it is highly unlikely that destroying any avatar will have much effect.

What three questions do you want to ask Hatsune Miku?

Plan vote.

6-hour moratorium.

Oh, it's a bout the Black Arm; that makes sense, Eggman is usually willing to do an Evil vs Oblivion type team-up when something big comes along.

As for the questions, not sure… maybe how Miku and Sonic's siblings ended up delivering a message for Eggman.
Shoot_First said:
I don't trust the deal, the information, or Eggman; we could maybe get weapons out of him but I wouldn't trust them. Heck, we might not even need those given that we've already kicked the ass of Shadow.

Let's just figure out the best questions to pump these guys for as much as we can on Eggman and then kick them out.
One Dragon said:
Well, that's probably one of the best things we could have expected from the meeting but Eggman has a pretty bad history when it comes to deals so I'm not sure we should agree.

As for questions, there's a lot
-=> Why did Eggman send you to negotiate?
-=> Why did you agree to help Eggman?
-=> Do you think this information is real?
-=> What are your plans from here?
-=> what do you think of Eggman?
-=> How does this help us?
-=> Is there a timeline of how long Eggman thinks it will take to defeat the Black Arm?

And more beyond that
Ice High said:
Huh, a team up could be pretty cool to see
Myriad Flame said:
From what we've see so far, there's definitely something odd about this Eggman, I think asking about the state of the people in his territory could give us a better look at things.
Ciao Chao said:
Well, we knew the Black Arms was dangerous but we didn't know they were cockroaches; that's pretty dangerous… without a real heavy hitter like Sonic, Silver, or Shadow, it might be smarter to make a deal but see if we can negotiate for more since Eggman gets more from build-up tome than us

My vote for questions would be
[] Plan Why, How, What
-[] Why are you delivering this message for Eggman?
-[] How is Eggman treating the people in his territory?
-[] What is your opinion of Eggman?

Manik in particular doesn't seem happy with this so I'd like to get their thoughts

"Before I give a response," you start, "would be willing to answer some questions first?"

Miku nods, hair flopping, "That's no problem; you doing your diligence. What would you like to know?"

This group is definitely not the sort that would typically be seen from Eggman, so that's probably the best way to start, "Let's start with you; why are you the ones making this offer on Doctor Eggman's behalf?"

Behind Miku, Manik and Sonia shift slightly before their lead responds, "Well, the shortest way of putting it would be that he saved us."

You note the uncomfortable looks on Manik and Sonia's faces as you raise an eyebrow to indicate your disbelief. Rosy meanwhile is rocking on her heels, fidgeting and looking around.

Taking the hint, the green-haired woman elaborates, "Well, after the Shattering, we ended up meeting and deciding team-up as a travelling band to help bring some joy to people in this strange situation… which unfortunately got us on Napoleon's bad side so he had us arrested and awaiting execution. I managed to sneak out a signal to ask for help and Doctor Eggman sent someone."

"Pity she works for Robuttnik; that ninja girl was pretty cute." Manik's quiet comment is heard by everyone and earns him an elbow from his… sister, you believe.

Miku continues on without a care, "After Miss Connie called for a pickup, we were brought before him and he requested we pass this offer to you as a neutral party. So, after a bit of time to recover first, here we are."

Answering a random SOS didn't feel like something that Eggman would typically do… is it possible that he'd found something about Napoleon offensive and arranged the rescue simply to spite? Or was there something else you were missing here?

As you ponder this, you wave a hand to Tangle, knowing her well enough to realise she had a something she wanted to say from the swish you could hear her tail make.

Taking the cue, the lemur crosses her arms, "You said you were in Eggman's territory for while… how are the people there being treated? I'd prefer it if one of the Hedgehogs answered, though."

Miku nodded at that and turned to instead focus on catching Rosy's attention and talking her down from where she was reaching towards a bookcase.

Sonia and Manik shared a look before the former hesitantly spoke, "Better than we'd expected, really; they have homes, working power and plumbing, and, from what we could see, it doesn't look like there's a problem with them keeping their culture. Eggman even lets them sing."

Manik butted in unprompted, "Chyeah, that one really caught me by surprise; the version we know hates all music so that was a surprise… even took the time to check out a recording his big 'I'm back' performance; didn't like the whole domination thing but the beat was a jam."

Sonia shot her definitely-brother a look but didn't argue.

That fit with the reports you'd received and the scene Tangle had personally experience so it was good to have that information backed up again even if it made you all the more uncertain about how unlike Eggman that sort of behaviour seemed; the fact that they seemed predisposed to dislike him made it more trustworthy. There was not denying the man's genius if he could put it towards helping people or at least not harming them, who knows what would be possible but could it really be relied upon to remain that way?

The Rookie spoke for the first time in the meeting, "What do you think of Eggman personally?"

Sonia and Manik glanced both making gestures as they tried to come up with something to say until the brother spoke, "He passes the very low bar of being better than the Robotnik we know but he shares the whole control freak "world should be mine" thing."

His sister followed up, "Based on what we saw, he's anything but a good person… but he's better to his people than a good number of the nobles I've seen and read about. The instability…"

Rosy looked up from where she was babbling to Miku, brow furrowed in concentration before stating, "He's round." And nodding as if that was a sage contribution.

Miku stood up, a hand remaining on Rosy's shoulder, "I think that, there's a potential change in him but another part is seeking to return to familiar patterns. He's being pulled in different ways."

There's a slight shift in the air as the metaphorical ball enters your side of the field.

You shared looks with your allies; was this enough to change your decision?
.

Voting options:

An offer to band together: End

[x] Keep the information, deny the alliance

While the temptation to agree with the ceasefire was great for all the potential benefits it could bring, at the end of the day you could justify the risk to all of your people without more evidence of Eggman being trustworthy. Especially when he was so open about his continued desire for control.

In these uneasy times what people needed was a sense of stability and belonging to tie things together and an agreement with Eggman would only make tensions rise as everyone anticipated the other shoe dropping down to crush them. And even if he followed through perfectly, after a time of relative peace, it's possible that the reignition of hostilities might break people's spirits in a way that a known constant wouldn't.

So, you gave your answer.

"While we do believe the level of threat that the Black Arms represents and would be interested making our own preparations; I don't feel that such a ceasefire would be in the best interest of the Restoration."

Neither of the siblings seemed surprised by the response; while Sonia simply nodded, the quirk of Manik's lips gave you the impression that he approved.

There was a sad smile on the Miku's face; you got the feeling she saw through you more than you'd prefer. She confirmed that the information was a gift and not contingent on agreeing.

From there, it was just a matter of polite farewells from both groups, which were accepted and the visitors left your office.

A trio of exhausted sighs were released simultaneously as the three of you released the tension in your bodies; none of you spoke for a minute or two as you all processed. The only sound being the ruffling of pages as Rookie kept flicking through the folder.

"Well, that was…" your attempt to break the silence fell flat as you couldn't find the words to describe the situation.

Rookie was the one to speak up next, dropping the folder on your desk and gesturing to the briefcase and drive within, "I'll ask Tails and Rotor to set up an isolated computer; if it's really a peace offering there shouldn't be anything there but… you know." He shrugged.

You and Tangle both nodded, fine with him taking point on the Black Arms side of this.

He was on his way out when a commotion sounded from outside and he instead moved to the side window and looked out, "Oh."

Tangle spoke up beside you, "New problem?"

The wolf cracked the window open a little, letting a hint of sound in "… ake me! I'll bash 'er!"

"Looks like the visitors ran into Amy; I'll go help Miku calm that situation down before talking to Rotor and Tails."

With that, Rookie opened the window fully and dropped down.

Tangle walked a few steps away from you then reached out with her tail to close the window.

Your mind was still buzzing as you tried to take in what was going on, when you felt Tangle kneeling next to your seat, giving you a hug.

You vocalise the obvious doubt plaguing your mind, "I made the best call I could… right?"

.

Encounter results:

Miku and her bandmates have informed Eggman of your decision.

There was a minor scuffle between Rosy the Rascal and Amy Rose but no serious damage to people or property was done.

Spell It Out? Learn About!: Science (And Your Co-workers!)

"Uhhhh! Why does this man....this everything has to be so…so....vexing!"

Yahna has lived for tens of thousands of days. Yet, even the most busy ones - back when she was Court Sorceress of Cornia - were as frustrating as those she now was spending under employment of so-called Doctor Eggman…..whatever this 'Doctor' title meant.

She knew she was being childish. That - perhaps - her now youthful body was playing tricks on her mind. That she should be a bigger woman and know better.

But…but….she just couldn't! Not when a man around half her age was acting like a slave driver! She barely had any time for herself and her magical research! Not to mention almost no one here understood subtle intricacies of the arcane - and the one person who appeared like she somewhat did was exclusively focused on combat applications of sorcery and her mercenary work. Not a conversational partner at all!

…..Frankly, what, actually held her here? Wouldn't it be better to pack her belongings and….

"Ummm….."

Yahna froze. She knew this voice. The voice of that little sentient, self aware golem that she saw often seen scurrying around. She seemed…an alright sort? Although Yahna couldn't claim she knew her very well. She last saw her during that silly contest with the Doctor - what a waste of time that was.

"Errr….are you okay Miss….?" the wooden golem started, and the sorceress found herself speaking without thinking.
"Yahna."

"Right, Miss Yahna! Ummm…..are you alright?" the puppet asked.

"It's…it's fine young one. Nothing you need to trouble herself with." she answered with half wave of her hand.

".........Doctor says similar things when he isn't okay." wooden golem said with surprising insight "I can't promise I will understand, but I can promise to listen."

Yahna stared at a girl for a few moments. A girl that was crafted by hand, not made within a woman's womb, but girl all the same. A silence stretched for a few more, uncomfortable seconds, before the sorceress sighted in defeat.

"Very well. If you insist. Miss....?"

"Oh, we never introduced ourselves, right? That's silly! I am Belle, nice to meet you!"

"So…if I understand correctly……Pa-I mean, Doctor is essentially swamping you with work?"

"A gross oversimplification of a matter, but essentially yes."

This conversation was so bizarre for Yahna. Back when she was Court Sorceress, it was she who was on the receiving end of countless confessions and grievances from knights and members of the court. She even alleviated some of them with her spells! To be one pouring out her own issues - at least the current ones…

Well, it was certainly the first.

"Have you tried to go to the Doctor with this?" Belle asked, which only earned the Tinkerer a bitter scoff.

"You already saw how little he thinks of my work. How would I even approach this?" Yahna answered the question with one of her own.

"Gears and starters…" the golem muttered, while massaging her temples.

".....If he only gave me some interesting task. But noooo, apparently he wants me to make away with those flames as soon as possible. Won't allow me even time to look…" sorceress continued....

".....Say that again."
The voice of Belle, much, much harsher jolted the witch from her pondering. She looked at the golem and almost flinched how hard that stare was! The girl-golem might've been made out of wood, but that look? There was a core of steel behind it.

"....I…." Yahna had tried to speak but was interrupted.

"Miss Yahna.... I know that your work and your research are important to you. I know you're frustrated." Belle paused and visibly exhaled, as if to calm herself. Strange, golems didn't need to breathe….
"But those flames hurt people. And if they aren't stopped they will persist, spread again and will continue being a danger. At least Pa…..Doctor, said so, and I have no reason to doubt him on that. So please, despite everything and your misgivings, take this task seriously."

'Your Papa IS hurting people! Actively!' sorceress wanted to exclaim, but that honest and unwavering gaze squashed the words in her throat before they could even be spoken. It was as if golem was drilling into her soul!

And…..Belle wasn't exactly wrong either. Would she hesitate with dispersing of this foul magic, if it was ravaging the lands of Cornia, and her King and Queen gave her orders to deal with them?

"I….I understand." Yahna finally said. "I am still not happy, but I will do my utmost best to deal with that accursed magic of Zeti." she promised.

As if another kind of curse was broken, the icy gaze of the golem disappeared, as Belle blinked. The look she sent her now, was one filled with bafflement and confusion.

"....Magic?"

"....I found one person I can talk to honestly, and she has no idea what magic is…..!"

Starline could hear this desperate groan very clearly - a grievance against the time, the place, the seemingly very time itself! - almost as soon as he stepped his foot in the base's cafeteria.

There, slumped over one of the tables, and the very image of total defeat - now starting into a half-empty glass of cherry, was sorceress Yahna.

'Well, consider my interest piqued!' platypus thought to himself, as he decided to approach the woman. Ever since that experience in Janken's treasure vault, Starline found new interest in the arcane.

Not necessarily in the art itself (although he wasn't dismissing it either), but more in the minds of the man and woman that practised magic.

It occurred to him that such people put weight on much different values than the Doctor and himself. That alone was fascinating subject to study..... but if any kind of mage stood in a way of good Doctor again?

Well, any insight to potentially destroy them psychologically? That was certainly worth the effort.

"Afternoon Miss Yahna." he greeted the sorceress. Her eyes lazily shifted the focus from glass to him.
"Oh, it's you." she muttered "And what do you mean afternoon? It's just past….oh."

Ah, so she wasn't tipsy enough to completely lose sense of time? Duly noted.

"Quite. Now, it seems you run yourself into some kind of problem?" Starline said, prodding for more info.

".....Even if I did, I doubt you will have the answers." Yahna bumbled, reaching for her drink.
Before her fingers could properly wrap around the glass, she was interrupted.

"Maybe I do, maybe I don't. I, however, doubt you will find them in the bottle either." platypus stated matter-of-factly, before showing both the glass and the bottle away from Yahna.

"So why don't you stop with this sad excuse of a pity party, and tell me what's really going on?"

"I see." Starline muttered to himself, as he leaned back in his office chair.

His own office wasn't as splendid and grandiose as that of the Doctor Robotnik of course, but it was still one he could call his own. As a token of acknowledgment for his wrangling Arsenal Pyramid back under the good Doctor's control, he was granted both this room and free hand to decorate it.

Between the Warp Topaz, and Green Hill Zone being littered with abandoned houses and apartments - both having no shortage of furniture no one was going to miss - he made quite a cosy workspace for himself.

"Well, the crux of the problem is simply because you don't understand science. Or rather, hard science of this day and age." monotreme mused.

"....I sense a distinctive and suspicious lack of mockery in your voice Starline." Yahna said, warily.

"Oh, you would get plenty of THAT if your ignorance was conscious choice. But when considering the circumstances of your world's era, technological advancements, etc….?" platypus shrugged.

"My world wasn't a bad place to live Starline! It was filled with great people and uncountable wonders!" Yahna protested.

"Maybe so but…telephones. Hot showers! Flushable toilets!" platypus countered.

".......Point taken."

"Frankly speaking, you are an intelligent woman, Miss Yahna. If you were born in the age I or Doctor would consider 'modern', I don't doubt you would choose a scientific career yourself - even if you couldn't be as successful as either of us. Not that your own field is undeserving of disrespect." Starline commented.

".....You are actually serious." former court sorceress said in disbelief.

"Oh, I am! Although to be honest, if you asked my opinion half a year ago, I would agreed with a good Doctor about arcane, completely." Starline admitted "However, events of recent months forced me to…..reconsider that opinion." he added.

"Well that is very generous of you." the witch said bitterly as she stood up "Shame that the same can't be said about our employer...."

.....Starline found himself biting his mandible. This was no good! No good at all! He could certainly recognise the mutinous mood when he seen it.

To be frank, the possibility of Yahna walking out on him and the Eggman Empire was unacceptable. Starline was 100% honest with his newfound respect towards magic. He couldn't imagine himself studying the field in the near future, but it was undeniable that a good Doctor needed a resident expert on the arcane, even if he himself didn't see it that way.

If encounter with Pierrot taught platypus anything, it was that when it comes to sorcery - or wizardry, magecraft or however you wanted to call it - brute force more often than not failed.

He couldn't care less about Yahna as a person, but her knowledge? Her knowledge about magic was worth every possible penny!

So….What could he do? What could he do to keep the sorceress here?!
Starline found himself sweating , his gaze shifting downwards. His eyes fell to towards his hands and….

Wait......that's it! There was something he could offer her…yet, should he?

It was his life's work! He spent countless research hours studying the gem. Was he really contemplating giving access to Topaz to someone else then Doctor Eggman himself?!?

On one hand, it's ridiculous! Would Yahna even comprehend the magnanimity of such a gesture?! Surely not! For her it would be just another magical gem, with her being obvious to all the sweat, tears and frustrations Starlne has gone through! Did she even knew procedure to write about any of potential findings?!

On the other…. Eggman Empire needed a competent, magic user with scholastic bent. And it was only him, Doctor Starline, that would be able to make it so, that it retained Yahna services!

Perhaps the Doctor wouldn't appreciate it now ....but surely he will in the future, once the witch proves her usefulness and recovers her lost (according to her) powers?

…There was also an issue of his long-time suspicion that Topaz was at least partially mystical in nature. Oh Starline had no doubt he could crack those kinds of gem's secrets himself - but if they were to make use of them in the foreseeable future? Well, having an expert on arcane wouldn't hurt…..as long as he was overseeing it for it of course!

"I really get it, I do.." platypus said, after the lengthy internal debate, that nevertheless passed in the instant. "I would feel the same way if I wouldn't be able to sit down with my passion projects for too long." he assured her.

"Speaking of my projects, there IS something I would need to have your opinion of."

This earned him an arched eyebrow from a green-haired woman.
"And that would be…?"

"Why, this!" monotrem said while detaching - very delicately - the Warp Topaz from his glove, and setting it on the desk. "This is Warp Topaz. I spent much time studying what kind of powers one who holds it is able to harness. So far, I managed to bend the fabric of space, allowing for portals anywhere in the world!" he boasted.

"The very space itself? Surely you jest…." Yahna started but soon furrowed her brow. " I sense…some very strange and exotic magic from that stone.

"Are you?" Starline said in fake surprise " That confirms my theory then! I believed for the long time now! I suspected that Topaz was magical at least in the little way, and with the words coming from the expert…" he Starline gestured and the witch.

"What a shame that you are so swamped with work! I would love to have a specialist on hand to learn more about Topaz, but…"

A mixture of emotions p[assed throughout the sorceress's face before speaking.
"I have to deal with that curse one and for all. And I am this close to finishing my dossiers too ...."

"Dossiers?' platypus asked. That was new.

"Yes. It's not quite enough for a proper book right now, but I am almost done grouping my thoughts and experiences with magic, into readable form."

"Huh." Starline wasn't expecting that. "Tell you what Miss Yahna, why don't we meet next month, and you help me with my Topaz studies, while I look over your research and help you tweak the words so good Doctor wouldn't be able to dismiss them so easily?"

"I……I think about it." sorceress said, and Starline sent her his best, winning smile in return.

"That's all I ask. And speaking about written words…" platypus jumped on his chair and rushed to his bookshelf.

Where are they, where are they…..AHA!

"To make Doctor Ivo treat you seriously, you need to understand science! And to understand science, you need to start at the very basics!" He explained, before walking to the Yahna, and promptly dumping his elementary school textbooks into the astonished witches hands.

"What….What is this?!" the green haired woman demanded an explanation with clearly befoudled tone.

"Textbooks! Physics, chemistry, geology, biology, engineering…." Starline said "They teach those to kids in their single digits, believe it or not. You might be clueless now, but once you have gone through these..... You will be the most knowledgeable witch from your world!" he explained, while already pushing the skimpily clad sorceress through the door!

"Wait!" Yahna protested, but Starline ignored her objections.

"Can't. I mean, have you seen the hour? Good gracious, we lost plenty of time! I have so much work to do, and so do you!" he muttered, before closing his office door in her face.

.....Phew…that went reasonably well!

Now…he had plenty of wisp research to go through! Starline had a feeling, that today was going to be GREAT!

Restoration Negaquest: An offer to band up

I liked the negaquest. Gives some nice reference for why they might've refused. It's a what if, but nicely characterized. The 'vote' being close reflected the bare failure pretty well, I think.

I am thinking about our potential actions for next turn, but now I'm specifically thinking about Heart.

Power, Brains and Mystic should all be more or less locked up due to collaborations and drives. Plus Trickery.
Power, we're spending an action arming the Rudies, plus we should be attacking the Empire again.
Brains, GUN collab. We might get another action from Sage, but that's probably going to be dependent on how things go this turn and what options we unlock.
And that's why Trickery is probably more or less decided on. We seem to be going after Selvaria, which means Sage might be speeding that up or letting us multitask with Clutch, depending on what options get made available. If she's not sticking to brains.
And Mystic, probably doing Through the Ringer as the easiest Mystic action to satisfy Yahna's drive, in case she gets a malus.
Logistics, we're losing one action to the collab with Merlina, but we have one or two more depending on what we do with the bumbling minions. I personally think it's important to build the Egg City fortifications and one of Ragnite Reactor, mass Ragnite mines, or plug in the emerald as a power source.
Depends a lot on what we want to do with the Emerald, since using it as a power source would be very helpful but lock us out of the super duper mechs and basically commit it for the foreseeable future.

Heart though... I think we have a few good options:

Keep advertising Honey's shop. Money is money, but I think we'll get diminishing returns on this. Especially since we're already doing that this turn and the logistics action to increase her products notes that people might get bored of her products. Might be reading too much into things, but do too much advertising and that might be a consequence as people have their expectations too high.

Attempt a collaboration with GUN again, in the hopes that the one we're doing next turn will be enough that they'll help us do an Empire base raid. Would improve our odds of success and maybe let us learn more about the forces they have at their disposal, but they might get some of the loot depending on how all that works.

Try bringing in the Restoration to the Black Arms alliance again. Black Arms remain a problem, lower DC than reaching out to them in general, don't want to waste an action with a failure. Pronghorns have 40 modifier. Belle's Power of Friendship might apply here, hard to say what level of bonus she'd get and if it's less than 10 the Pronghorns are better. They have Amy and Tails now, so they'd actually be pretty dang useful. Also, helps keep them off our backs until we're ready to deal with them one way or another.

PR campaign. This one is probably in need of the most explanation. There would be benefits to just generally improving Eggman's public image. Easier heart actions, less likely to see resistance from the Restoration, maybe lower their DCs, etc. We have a few omake bonuses to this, a +10 to this specific action and I've got a +10 myself that I'd be willing to throw at it. There was also a Badnik plan on Discord that builds the Refreshinator (4x Fire Breath - 100, 6x Quizons - 60, Refreshinator - 140, Total metal cost - 300). It eats all our metal, but that's not accounting for the discounts we get from the Ring Power upgrade and we're all but guaranteed a crit on this.
Anyways, modifiers. We're thinking that the Refreshinator should add 20 to it, Eggman is 7, and omakes for another 20. 47.
Assuming we use Canaan for the Rudies action for her drive, Pronghorns are our best unit at a 40 modifier, but Belle's Power of Friendship should apply here for +10. If she gets a single point in Heart from the adventure (and we're bringing her to network, so she should) her modifier on this goes up to 41. Just edging out the Pronghorns and keeping them free for fighting the Empire, who I expect to punch back.
So, 88, just need a 12. Because we can throw more omake bonuses on it than some of the other options and the Refreshinator, this actually has better odds than bringing in the Restoration.

I am ultimately bringing this up with the intention of not wasting our Heart action and doing what I think is interesting. I'm in favor of the PR campaign myself, because it has better odds than a good number of our options. I don't want to reach out to another King because the only one whose DC isn't that high is Janken.

Thoughts?

Spell It Out? Learn About!: Science (And Your Co-workers!)

Fun getting another Yahna omake. I found it really entertaining that she briefly had hope with Belle and then "what even is magic?" destroyed her, lmao.
Also, lowkey giving someone that old elementary school textbooks is also funny.

Dunno how blown away she'd be by the Warp Topaz though, I think her setting has teleportation. Albeit portals are still different and are probably better.

I think we should do a collaboration with gun to kick out the empire. It would definitely help with our chances and increase our odds at kicking them out pretty high.

ehh im leaning towards pr it's one of the actions that get us closer to subverting GUN plus it probably makes the restoration heart actions dc lower and we can take care of the empire by ourselves tbh

Try bringing in the Restoration to the Black Arms alliance again.
Here's an idea: do a collab with GUN to bring the Restoration into the alliance against the Black Arms. It shows we're serious about the threat, and GUN is much more trustworthy in the Restoration's eyes. Working together, we can rope them in too.

And then we can send a bunch of hero units to jump Shadow and blow up whatever base he's at.

If the DCs from this turn remain consistent, GUN needs to add at least 35 to the roll to be worthwhile. They actually raise the DC compared to doing it on our own.

With that perspective, that's another reason to do the PR campaign, since it should lower the DC if successful.

What if our efforts in diplomacy have lowered that DC?

What if our efforts in diplomacy have lowered that DC?

The DC for Black Arms went from 60 to 80 though. Possibly because Eggman's salty (which is why the Janken DC didn't go down on that bare failure). General reach out remained the same.

That said, I got corrected on Discord. It looks like the DC 115 is on the general Reach out to the Restoration, compared to the straight DC of 130, not Bring In Others.

Still, not our strongest suit, but at least they're not making things harder. A successful PR campaign should still lower the DC and I think be good for us in general, but you did raise a good point.

Thank you. I just want this nonsense with Shadow and the Black Arms over with so we can focus on beating the Empire.

On that note, another idea: once we figure out how to build anti Black Arms weapons, I propose we ask those Space Channel guys to broadcast the schematics to every faction on the planet except the Black Arms themselves. For fun.

I just want to note, Miku said that the people of the Restoration want to feel "safe" and "happy" and by giving them the info on the Dark Arms we gave them one, and we'll need to give them the other if we want to succeed. By giving them the Black Arms data obviously they are safer, but we need to do something to make them feel happy as well. I think the cartoons might be the best choice here.

I'd rather sell them, hopefully build up more money for future endeavors.

Reward: Eggman starts a spread of good PR. People unfamiliar with him and maybe even some younger people not privy to the full extent of his actions start to gain a more positive view on him.

Reward: Create a cartoon series that paints you in a brilliant light and your many, MANY foes in a very negative light. Public opinion increases for you and public opinion decreases for most of your foes.

Cartoons make Eggman's enemies look bad, so it's more about making things harder for them and easier for Eggman. Not a bad idea in general, but it is counterproductive for the sake of improving relations with the Restoration if that is the goal. PR campaign is comparatively less antagonistic and may influence some of the Restoration, especially if it includes some of Eggman's more recent good deeds.

TURN 9- SEPTEMBER 20XX
Heart Actions
Launch a PR Campaign DC: 100
People unfamiliar with him and maybe even some younger people not privy to the full extent of his actions start to gain a more positive view on him.
Logistic Actions
Create Propaganda Cartoons DC120
Reward: Create a cartoon series that paints you in a brilliant light and your many, MANY foes in a very negative light. Public opinion increases for you and public opinion decreases for most of your foes.
Aren't these actions aimed at people who don't know who Eggman is?

I mean it's not like the restoration are our enemies in our way sure but not actively sabotaging us like the empire.

I'd rather sell them, hopefully build up more money for future endeavors.
I understand that reasoning, and for a lot of other stuff, I would agree! But the Black Arms are a problem, and I think it would be better to handicap their efforts as much as possible, even if it isn't super optimal for us personally. Because. You know. The downward pointed death laser.

Aren't these actions aimed at people who don't know who Eggman is?

They would be more effective with them, no question. Eggman even has a trait about that. Don't think they'd do nothing though, especially since it was one of the listed actions to get GUN more on side.

Okey Actions would be things that give Eggman a good reputation/make it seem like he is trying to be good and would shift Gun perception of him, making more likely to make them join you
finish making the cure for NIDS
Enter talks with the Restorarion, make deals where GUN benefits more/even offer them your chaos emerald.
Assist with defeating the black arms while also focusing on avoiding civilian causality/ avoid collateral damage
Pr Campagin
Reach out to the Restorarion
Make the commercials and the World wrestling federation making sure both of them are legitemely legal/are not doing shady stuff.
Continúe assisting the darcsens abn Help the darcsens have a proper living place instead of just living in your kingdom.
Capture Zavok and the remaining Zeti and give them to gun su they can be properly judged.
Collab with them for actions that upgrade quality of life for the people living in green hills (no unlocked yet)
Assist them when they are dealing with an invasion (one that you did not make/cause)

Definitely not a checklist and there are some actions on here I have no intention of making a case to try ever, but many of them should apply to the Restoration as well. If we ever want to take advantage.

Welp got inspired.

A witch, a cat, a frog and a narcoleptic goddess.

''Froggy where are you?'' those have been the words the young umbra witch cereza has heard for a while now.

She still doesn't know how she got into this mess on the first place, one moment she was doing her own important stuff, only for the sound of something shattering to happen and then find herself in a place she knew nothing about, lost in a new place with no way to find a way home.

She tried to fly solo with chesire at her side, but honestly this world was totally nuts, it is almost like taking a wrong turn could just lead you directly to the meanest demon in town.

At least cheshire was still with her giving her some safety.

But even, the two of them alone could handle everything by themselves.

Even then making new friends was difficult, everything was just so different and if she was honest the only ones she constantly talked to were cheshire and Jeanne before this entire mess, as Morgana honestly wasn't all that for talks.

She honestly didn't know what to think of Mr. Big at first, she was trying to catch some fishes by a river to feed herself to no luck, only for Mr. Big to suddenly appear and scare her.

Of course she tried to scare him away with cheshire, but both of them were honestly surprised when Mr. Big just went and holded chesire hit with one of his hands.

Both of them though they were done for, but they were surprised when Mr. Big just outright asked them if they needed any help with fishing.

cheshire and her were honestly surprised, for someone that almost was left unconcious by a demon, the big purple cat was just so laid back and absent about the events that just happened.

She would have probably told him to go away at any other moment, but she was honestly starving, so she said yes and that is how she just became the traveling companion to Mr. Big.

She still doesn't know if that was a good desicion or not.

Especially considering their current situation.

After the pirate attack and Mr. Big teaching that idiot a lesson they destroyed as much of the ship they could to leave them drifting afloat on the ocean.

Her mood wasn't helped by the stupid person who refused to save them or at least tow them to shore.

After that Mr. Big had kept them alive with the fishes they managed to nab from the ocean.

While they didn't had many means to cook them, after all they couldn't really light up a fire on a ship, she never though raw fish would be so tasty after some preparation, Mr. Big apparently called it sushi.

Still at least they had enough luck that the currents managed to take them into an island.

One without persons as far as they knew during the few days they have been here but at least a place where they could get resources.

At least that is what Mr. Big said, apparently this wasn't the first time Mr. Big had been stranded somewhere.

When she asked how many times she was surprised at some of the stuff that he mentioned.

Apparently he was someone who just went around the world a lot, from places like the windy valleys of windmill isle, to the frigid region of holoska, to places like the calm mountains of chu-nan, to the majestic angel island, to apparently even a place called the ark, then apparently a rare place called Arabia, he apparently even met a princess once just because his friend had gone off and entered the palace.

She honestly didn't know anything about the places, but if something Mr. Big seemed to remind them with fondness and from what little they could repair the ship Mr. Big indeed seemed to not be doing this for the first time.

Sooner or later they would get their ship repaired and go back to travel out of these treacherous waters.

Now if only Mr. Big friend didn't decide to go missing it would be a big help.

According to Mr. Big his friend Froggy seemed to just go away whenever he wanted and his travels really encompased two situations.

Either a fishing trip or just trying to find his friend.

Honestly she would be annoyed, but she also owes the big cat a lot for taking care of her, so she decided to help the cat for his friend.

And so she helped Mr. Big search for his frog.

''Mr. Froggy come out'' She said searching for the small frog.

''Heh you truly are too soft child, to think a umbra witch would be this kindhearted'' a grouf voice said in her mind.

(Now cheshire, despite all the trouble, Mr. Big has indeed been a big help, besides even he impressed you), she told back to the demon.

''Hmmp, he just got lucky, I will be looking toward proper scuffle with that overweight cat one day'' the demon responded.

(Heh you sound like you are jealous) she teased the demon.

'' Bah what do you know kid, just wait one day I will show him who is stronger'' the demon said confidently.

(Whatever you say cheshire) she said to the demon in a joking tone.

As the two continued the search trough the island they decided that it was bette to separate to cover more terrain.

She didn't know how long she had walked, but it was clearly enough that she ended up on the beach at the other side of the island.

''Ugh, just how long have be been walking for'' she said out loud.

''Don't look at me kid, I am not your personal clock'' the demon snarked.
''I really hate this, ever since the shattering happened we have been getting nothing but bad luck, I know Mr. Big has been nice to us, but this really sucks'' she said out loud again.

''Hah you are one to talk, or do I have to remind you that you tied me to this damnmable doll, seriously if the other demons saw me right now I would be the joke to end all jokes'' chesire countered back.
''I already said I am sorry, look I want to go home as much as you do, but right now we have nothing to go on how to do that, I know Mr. Big said he had friends that maybe could help, but even I doubt he would be able to put things back to how they were before'' she said pouting.

''Fine kid, just stop acting like a spoiled brat and lets go back to search for that damn frog, the sooner we find it, the sooner we will get out of this island'' cheshire reminded the witch.

'' Do you think Mr. Big may have found him already, like we are trapped here, I doubt he could have gone too f...'' She couldn't finish the sentence as she spotted a bunch of fallen leafs, not close to the sea, but that didn't matter, because she spotted something green with orange spots.

''Ah that's'' she said relieved.

''what are you waiting for kid, get that frog'' the demon demanded.
She just nodded as she approached quietly to the bunch of leaves where froggy was hanging.

From what Mr. Big had told her froggy was quite quick, so she will probably need to jump the frog to catch it.

As she finally stood behind the rock with the frog on top of it, she prepared herself to catch it.

But as soon as she jumped the Frog noticed the intention and jumped to the side.

At first she didn't think much of it, she already found the frog she just needed to follow it now, and it wasn't like she would suffer a hard fall, the leaves were going to absorb her fall after all.

What she didn't think would happen was for her to feel not the soft leaves, but actually a somewhat solid landing.

Her face going pale once she heard a single word.

''Ouchie'' a sleepy voice said.

cereza quickly got up as she watched someone to suddenly rise up from the leaves.

The figure yawned as despite the sudden jump from cereza, it looked like the person waking up was still half asleep.

When the figure finally got up, cereza saw it was a girl just a little older than her, she had a strange vestiment, as her clothes looked more like pajamas than something you would wear on a island and she even had a cute doll with her and while strange, those shoes were very cute too.

When the girl finally got up and streched herself a little, she looked around and finally saw cereza.

cereza was honestly waiting for anything, to be yelled at, to be attacked, anything really.

What she wasn't waiting for was for the girl asking her something ''Uhmm excuse me... it is morning already?'' the girl said in a sleepish voice.

cereza took a while to just process what was happening as she responded nerviously ''Y-y-es, I think it is afternoon already, I am sorry if I woke you up'' the young umbra witch said.

The purple haired girl just looked at cereza and smiled softly '' It is okay... I tend to sleep a lot so it is no bother'' the girl said in a kind but sleepish voice, not too different to how Mr. Big talked.

''That is a relief, I was just trying to catch that frog miss?'' cereza said asking for the girl name as she pointed to froggy who was still at her side.

''Are you by casuality friends with mister frog?... ah right you don't know me name do you?... I am Plutia it is nice to meet you... what is yours?'' the girl named Plutia said as she asked various questions.

''Well he is not really my friend, but Mr. Big who indeed is his friend has been searching for him for a while now miss Plutia, ah right I gotta present myself too, I am cereza'' the young witch bowed with her dress.

''cereza... that is a cute name... still if mr frog friend is looking for him I can help you.'' plutia said as she looked at the frog and slowly approached it, the frog meanwhile didn't move.

As plutia was inmediatly side by side with the frog, she just kneeled down and the frog jumped on her head.

cereza was surprised, from what Mr Big had told her, Froggy didn't let many outside of Mr. Big and his friends to really get this close with him, but there was the frog happily posed on the purple haired girl head.

As they walked around the beach trying to find Mr. Big they started talking ''So how did you end up here?'' cereza asked.

''Hmm... well I don't really know... I was gonna play games with Neppy, Neppy Jr. and Uzume... but then something was happening... then something shattered I think and I found myself here... what about you?'' Plutia said remembering the events that led her being stranded on the island.

''Wow talk about rotten luck, Mr. Big and myself found ourselves here mostly because some idiot pirates decided to be petty because Mr. Big didn't let them ramsack us, we were lucky the boat drifted to this island'' cereza said as she told plutia how they got here.

''It isn't that bad... this island is pretty comfy to sleep in... still they sound like a bunch of meanies'' Plutia said as she pouted at the mention of the pirates.

''You wouldn't believe it, still Mr. Big says he can get the ship repaired sooner with all the materials we have here... do you want to come with us? I doubt Mr. Big will mind another traveling partner'' cereza offered the purple haired girl, while one normally would mistrust strangers, she didn't know why, but Miss Plutia had an aura familiar to Mr. Big, besides it would be in bad taste to not give her a lift up after she helped her getting Mr. Froggy.

''If your friend doesn't mind?... Sure... Hehe... so this is what Neppy said to wait for the plot hooks... still I wonder... where are Neppy, Neppy Jr. and Uzume?'' the girl accepted the offer, but wondered where her friends where.

''You are searching for your friends too?'' cereza said asking the purple haired girl to which she nodded ''Suppose, I am not the only one then... I am searching for many things myself if I am being honest'' the little girl opened up to the purple haired girl.

''Hmmm... I wouldn't worry too much really... I am sure you will find eventually everything you are looking for... still if you need help I suppose I could help.'' Plutia told the little girl.

cereza was taken aback by how friendly the girl was, she didn't know what her luck was that not one but two very similar natured persons have offered to help her in her own journey at that the young girl could only say two words ''Thank you''.

''Hehe... it is nothing... that is what friends are for'' Plutia said back in her own sleepish tone.

''Hmmp, friends or just a wolf in sheep clothing as you humans say'' the demon growled after being silent for a long while.
(cheshire?) the young witch questioned the demon.

''Never judge a book by it is cover girl, it may be faint and you are still untrained to really sense, but I can feel it, that wretched divine scent, it is not the same, but it is too damn similar to those that live in paradiso''
the young witch was taken aback by that, Morgana may not have touched much on the theme, but she always said those of paradiso were always trouble.

And yet Miss Plutia looked nothing like or acted like a member of the heavens.

Still she could worry about that later, right now they all needed to get off this island.

As they continued talking and walking, they finally found Mr. Big.

cereza was unsure what to make of the first meeting, but Mr Froggy quickly left plutia to jump on Mr. Big hands, the large cat happy that his friend was with him again.

When Mr. Big asked who was besides Cereza, Plutia introduced herself to Mr. Big with as little words as she could.

Mr. Big also doing the same to the purple haired girl.

Cereza didn't understand much, but she could feel the cat and the girl didn't distrust or hate each other.

No, if something it was like they we're so similar that they understood each other perfectly.

Still Cereza was glad that they got along just fine.

She is still worried about what Cheshire said, but if miss Plutia was anything like Mr. Big she probably didn't had to worry.

In this strange world she found herself in the only thing she could do was to hope for the best.

She decided to trust Mr. Big and it paid off, maybe trusting miss Plutia Will do the same.

And even then just what are the chances of her actually being some kind of Goddess?

If she was sure she would call this the biggest setup for a joke the World has done.

After all A witch, a demon, a cat, a frog and a Goddess forming a party is not something You hear off from every day.

Otherwise right now they all needed to work together to get off this island.

She wonders just what the future has prepared for them.

One thing is certain for her on the other hand.

If that Blue haired meanie tries to mess with them again she is siccing Cheshire on her that is for sure.

Out of curiosity, since none of Merlina's people can die so long as they are in Camelot, does that mean food is more like a luxury there?
