Scales In Shadow

Do you mind if I call you 'Zageya', then? It's an Old Imperial word that roughly translates as 'spear', which," he gestures at your tail, "seems fitting, really."

I like "Umbra" but can we perhaps get something that would translate as "One in the Shadow"? How would that sound in, eh, Old Imperial?

P.S. Is there a character sheet? I already forgot what kind of dragon we are.

Unulcumbra is "one with shadow" in romanian.

Tech its "unul cu umbra" but i just smashed it all together

Tracking down what @Wyvern used.. far as i can tell its Roman Uru

Technically, what I used was wiktionary.org, looked up semi-appropriate words, clicked through 'see also' links at semi-random, and then eventually mangled something from the etymology listing of a synonym. Following the same path for "One with Shadow" results in... Something like "Tenumbra", actually. Which is amusingly close to "Tenebrae", which is just another word for shadow.

Also, I remind people that approval voting is encouraged! If you want to vote for Umbra, and Umbrashadow, and Shadow? This is legal. (Perhaps a bit silly, especially when it comes to Umbrashadow, but legal.)
(Edit: Also, as Dangerkitty noted, the last post you make that has votes in it takes precedence, so to vote for all three, you'd want one post that included all three, not three separate posts.)

P.S. Is there a character sheet? I already forgot what kind of dragon we are.
There is not, yet. I'm working on it. For reference, links to:
The winning plan is here.
The vote was called here.
And some final negotiations, here.

Edit again:
How's Dusk in your view BTW?
Dusk is fine! I have no problems with it.

Names probably the final piece you need to complete it. Figure once chosen then we can discover our book IC (assuming it hasn't been seen offscreen and written in per my entries)

On another note though.. just got our first mentions of outside world. On some sort of island and "old imperial" mentions.. sounds like we may be in one of their ruins..which leaves the question of the downfall..

Local wise, curious what the local reaction to a dragon will be.. especially one that's masked. Got a bit of theory us not being entirely aggressive (like red text leans towards) may open more "doors" for talks.. while vice versa following it may lead to combat bonuses.

For now, say stick with the two adventurers here. We don't need to be friends but we share same goal of getting out of the catacombs and they'll know the island better then us

*baps with rolled up newspaper*
No, bad Dangerkitty!
Don't make us the moon-moon of dragons.

Even if getting stuck in those webs was kinda moon-moon-y/Umbrashadow-y.

( :p )

YOU CANT CONTROL ME!

[X] Umbrashadow
[X] Umbradarkness
[X] Blackumbra
[X] midnight umbra
[X] She who stalks the night
[X] umbra mortii (shadow of death)
[X] umbra scalata (scaled shadow)
[X] cysgod mawr (big shadow)

Cough

I make good names. I swear!

You know, find it kinda bemusing in verse thus far our tail has been quite the deadly implement. From what @Wyvern has said it seems magic use is known among dragon.. and tropes always tend to have fire breath (among other things)..

We may have inadvertently created a dragon thats quite atypical by this settings standards.. one being sneaky seems unheard of.

Let us be the first dragon ninja! :ninja:

Nothing that big has any right to be that sneaky

For the record here, I am vetoing "Umbradarkness". I just don't feel that one flows right. The rest of these are... I can work with them.

Might be bit early to ask.. but whats after the name vote here? Got most of our dragon defined past the name and magic...

And well, like the idea of the Wizard poking us to reveal what magic we can pull.

Oh god, the meme name ist gaining votes.

If Shadow is available as main element Ninja could work really well as combination of our plans.
You bring being an agile fighter, i bring crafting tools and add gliding to the agility, and shadow (if available) helps with stealth.

Dont forget with my Fate Point in use we will be able to get ourselves a mask we can start experimenting with :ninja:

Think it might be a prime advantage actually pft, everyone thinks we will be "Big and obvious" while we actually are sneaking in the shadows behind them and getting ready to coil the tail right before the strike

Probably be utterly terrifying to realize the dragon is exploiting a far more insidious method of intimidation.

Might be bit early to ask.. but whats after the name vote here?
Currently splitting work between character sheet and next main threadmark. It'll probably be the character sheet that goes up next, but no guarantees.

As an aside, if people are looking for edgy darkness words, I'd toss 'onyx' and 'obsidian' into the mix. (Of course, some of the obvious derivative names are taken; 'Onyxia', for example, is a rather famous raid boss from World of Warcraft, and thus not a good name to use for an entirely unrelated character.)

Aye, name vote concluding makes sense for character sheet.. probably easier and been a long time coming

As for edginess, nah. Dusk shall be fine, after all its probably a bit more uncommon to see heh.

Umbrashadow of the dark Obsidianonyx

Bit more of my speculation to figure out whats going on.

Seems the Foxy Lady hired Tarin {Ashen Wizard] here to try and find something in the catacombs and escort her out, and seems like they taken a wrong turn perhaps and gotten lost. Seems relatively clear they werent expecting to find a dragon down here.. Tarin definitely the more curious sort so we can potentially exploit that.. a Wizard probably cant resist the sole specimen of a dragon around working with him.

For more mechanics-metaphysical stuff.. seems that if we encounter enemies that simply just cant match up to us the GM simply will just have them killed barring extraneous circumstances.. Get the sense the two adventurers here would actually put up a fight if we pressed the issue, but have a suspicion since we chose the careful approach we can prevent the emotional instinct for pressuring influence too much. Gives us a pretty decent clue dragons are a bit of a significant threat even if we are a "whelp" like us at presentt. Metaphysical side.. I did catch that magic can also relate to emotions, like Tarin here can maybe incite fury or rage on an enemy given hes fire based.. Shadow perhaps can simply be more calming or more passive.. maybe ultimately just putting stuff to sleep?

For a more present question though @Wyvern given we will probably have talks with the adventurers here.. will we choose how our dragon approaches a conversation? Not saying full dialogue [though wouldnt be adverse to writing it out] but more like if the dragon will try to come of as more threatening or diplomatic.. Seems we can avoid being too prideful at present.

will we choose how our dragon approaches a conversation?
Maybe sometimes somewhat - at the moment, I am, as you've noted, running off the persistent previous votes for taking cautious approaches to things.

(One of the things that's annoyed me about some other quests is inconsistent characterization of the point-of-view character. A really good quest - and there certainly are some out there - will present a bunch of options that are all in character; I'll try to pull that off when I've got good ideas for it, but if I don't, I'll just write something and keep going.)

It's probably also worth noting that I'm approaching this as more of a creative writing exercise than a roleplaying scenario; votes are at least as likely to be for defining external factors - who's around, what loot exists, etc - as they are to be for what 'you' do.

I did say this quest was somewhat experimental, right?
