Sartier Quest: A Tale of Song, Gods, and Trouble (CK2-Let's Go Hunt Gods, SV!)

@OneirosTheWriter @Macchiato Repeating previous request to have listed in here what blue/red actions are.
It's the spoiler bit at the top of the page.
@OneirosTheWriter @Macchiato Which Songweavers would Rita be teaching to? I assume one is Monica...it's Georgie, Alice probably, and who else? Theo?
Georgie Hulland, Alice Tellar, Bea Chin, and one of the recently arrived Courtiers, Rebecca Morcombe.
Antonia is intrigue 27 so a +9 there as opposed to a +4
*coughs and points to Minority Report trait listed on the front page*

It's not easy to bushwhack someone with visions of the future who is currently on high alert.

Oneiros: I actually don't know where you're pointing. :3

Unique Unit:
Soothsingers
Character: Sex d2, Age 24+d30; Martial 5+d10, Combat 12+2d6, Stew 5 + d15, Dip 5+d6, Intrigue 5+d10, Magic 14 + 2d10, Piety d20, Dread d5,

The Soothsingers that come from the region of Arbalen are powerful Songweavers who are touched by the grimmer sides of the art. Their songs can give them visions of the future. These visions are often difficult to interpret and horrific, making Soothsingers a very unsettling sort of person to be around.

Songwriters of the Dusk- Where the Soothsingers walk they are preceded by their endtimes visions. [When a Soothsingers is recruited or summoned to court, they start with between 1-3 songs that sap enemy Cohesion or Morale.]
Minority Report- Premonitions give the Soothsinger a step up on assassins, but only a step. Those visions are hard to read. [-20% to assassination attempts]
Veteran Songweaver- A Soothsinger is well versed in the magic of song and power. [+6 Magic, may cast battle spells]

Hana stands with her brothers on an artificial promontory along with some of the senior-most commanders, and representatives of the Royal Navy. In particular, Blake, her Vice-Marshall and younger brother, whose hand has been on the tiller of this naval expansion, stands at her side.

...

"B-Blake," she manages to get out. A perfect smile is on her face and she grits the words out through her teeth. "What is that?"

"What is what?" asks Blake mildly as he continues to applaud with the crowd.

"Those, by the Arsenal."

"Ah, those would be triremes, dear sister," replies her younger brother. "You have heard of them, mayhap?"

"Those would be Royals, dear brother," corrects Hana sharply, still applauding and doing her best to not look like she was about to commit fratricide.

"Ah, so they are."

"Why are they blue Royals, dear brother?" asks Hana. "They should be orange."

Smugness comes through every pore of her younger brother's face. "That would be because those are Sonissimmo Royals," says Blake.

Hana still claps, but in the same manner that a headless chicken still runs around, on an automatic reflex. She stares at her brother in horror. "Do you have any idea what you've done?"

"You wanted me to sort out matters at sea while you reorganised our soldiers on land," replies Blake. "I do hope this doesn't hurt your plans to marry off Ethan too badly." His face brightens. "Hey, it really is fun to be on this side of the conversation for a change."

... I can't stop thinking of Blake as a surfer dude with a brocon complex now. But wow, having an agent who deliberately causes problems - Hana better get her court in order. And no mercy for the Royal Navy: I don't care if they're all Sonissimo friends. Shame on them for caving and not having the least bit of a spine to do something that is clearly a blow to Sartier unity.

"It shuts up the Court beneath Hana," you reply with a laugh. "Except Blake, who doesn't want to be separated, and is desperate to scupper the idea, while he's trawling Etela looking for eligible ladies his brother could marry instead."

"Of all the stupid shit that Court politics turns on," sighs Andres. "Evelyn, warn your brother and sister that if they ever pull a stunt like this I'll throttle them."

"You will not," snaps Rita. She pauses for a moment, and then adds, "I'll throttle them first."

Politics is personal. Also amused at Rita's response. ... But seriously, our agents better not do anything as dumb as this. We won't be amused! :anger:

Paying Your Dues - All of the major Houses of Sartier have made a contribution to the force keeping the peace between Dale and Vincennes ... except Tellar. Well, you've had a lot on your plate. Time to change that.

I'm OK with sending the suggested Longbows and rotating in some Minor House troops to supplement the infantry everyone else sent. I'm even OK with not having them defending Tellar given that they'll be on hand for Dale and the temporary cowing of the pirates.

... But honestly, whatever Spectrum says. I have no head for these sorts of things.

The Horse Lords - An Emissary from the King of Kabilee has arrived, offering the regards and congratulations, but you suspect they have come to find out what you are like. What sort of attitude do you attempt to present? [Destination: Harper]
-[ ] Why Yes, We Do Like Gold - Emphasise a desire for trade between your region and Kabilee.
-[ ] I'm Pretty Tough! - Emphasise to Kabilee's emissary that Tellar is every bit as strong as Sonissimmo, if not more so. If they have a fight in mind, they won't like how it goes. Of course, it's easy for such a stance to come across as provocative.
-[ ] Like What You See? - Kabilee maintains close relations to Tarrant, among others. Perhaps there is room for closer relations here, too?

So, I agree the 2nd is unnecessary, especially given that tales of our exploits (and Songweavers) are more than enough to speak for themselves. I like the suggestion of some combination of 1st and 3rd.

No time or agents for any of this. I guess the bright side of our naval exploits being so well-known means that everyone else is coming to us, which is handy. Maybe the Khironex will send a delegation next turn.

What the heck, Hana!? - Well, that's annoying. Sonissimmo has launched four Royal triremes in their own house livery, using the Balan Arsenal to give them an edge no other house can access. This letter from Hana about the complicity of one of the twins makes the situation more complex.
[ ] Evelyn - Sometimes you just have to do something yourself. Go, and sort out this problem with your old friend like adults. [Evelyn Tellar Only - Start Interlude, Counts as Evelyn's Personal Action, Destination: Etela]

Yeah, what the heck, Hana. We really could have used Evelyn in other actions, not cleaning up your self-created mess.

In the Navy! - Well, the Sonissimmo aren't just the patrons of the Royal Navy, they basically own it lock, stock, and barrel. Nonetheless, it may be a good idea to start talking with the Navy and see if you can inspire at least a little of the traditional neutrality. They may not like you, but you still hold the reins of Sartier and you really should be on speaking terms.
-[ ] Balan - To the Balan Cloister naval base in Etela, home of the Arsenal and where the bulk of the Royal Navy's major players operate from. It gets to the heart of the matter, but going to Etela could be risky with the way they're feeling right now. Of course, with relationships thawing, it isn't so bad now. [60% base chance, 500g, unlocks new options, Destination: Etela]

Evelyn's got the naval rep, and she's apparently going to be in Etela anyway (thanks Hana :eyeroll:). Seems like a good match. Also... I think, Evelyn literally can't fail this given her diplomacy + bonii.

Treaty Expansion - The number of fully professional units that each House can keep is controlled by an ancient treaty to limit competition. With the Teuv threat looming, perhaps this treaty should be rewritten to increase the allowed regiments. (Chance will increase as the Teuv threat increases. [20% base chance, 1,000g, 3 Influence, Destination: Multiple]

Costs too much influence, and most Houses won't see the need until after Dale.

I'd rather just solve the issue entirely, and honestly, if we quietly alert both Sonissimo and Capo, I think they will put even more pressure on their Vassal Houses not to act up.

Sound the Alarm
-[ ] ... Quietly - Alert only the Symphonies of Sonissimmo and Capo. [Small chance of word reaching compromised sources, the Great Houses will organise responses]

@OneirosTheWriter - I know you said it was OK as a stunt, but I want to clarify that if we split this work up such that there is no multi-province travel, this would make Sound the Alarm a 'white' option rather than red, right? If I understand correctly, the red is solely from the fact that an agent would have to travel to both Etela and Capo?

Settling Accounts - Get Timbre and Carlisle down to talk together. You've already arranged a temporary halt to tariffs. With a little nudging and prodding, you're sure that a permanent end can be negotiated. After all, Laurent seems like an earnest young man, and Samantha is usually sensible. What could go wrong? [45% base chance, 4,000g, 1 turn, removes tariff permanently, Destination: Gambier, Wellshead]

[DOMINIC TURN 4] - A Formal Position - One of the things that Dominic suggested was an Ambassador role on the Council, who is dedicated to outreach with the various houses. [65% base chance, 4,000g, 2,000g per turn, on completion +2,000g upkeep, 3 turns, gain one free Diplomacy action per turn, Destination: Harper]

Putting Yourself In Their Shoes
[ ] - Investigate what might be done to mend fences with House Sarba. [???% chance, new options unlocked, Destination: Sarba]

If only Dominic could have finished this action earlier... Not that I would have sent him to Timbre and Carlisle, but we probably could have sent him to Sarba. Possibly. And Carmen's ill so - both of these will have to be put off until next turn.

[ ] - Possession is Nine-Tenths
[ ] - Sealed by Rings

Ahaha. No.

- ...But That Is A Sacrifice I Am Willing To Make [40% base chance, 8,000g, 3 turns, +5 Morale to Militia and Levy, 10% Reduction in call-up costs]

On the one hand, we've... already called up militia? We only have a few slots left? On the other hand, I'm not sure there's all that much else to do with Luna given her stats, and we can just keep pairing this up with the military research over the next couple of turns. Not glamorous, but necessary.

Maybe next turn. I actually do like this idea and Capo's already stolen this idea and done it, but ...

Obvious stuff and it's a non-agent action.

Admiralty
Fleet Base

Dyelin Steel

All cool stuff, but not sure it's high priority at this point in time.

Lessons Learned [40% base chance, 4,000g, 1 turn, Gain +10 to martial research rolls for 4 turns, Destination: Non-specific]
Calling Florence Nightingale [40% base chance, 5,000g, unlocks new options, 1 turn, Destination: Harper]
Boffins [35% base chance, 1 turn, 6,000g, open improvement options for your ships, Destination: Harper]
Harmonising [40% base chance, 2 turns, 6,000g, Spellknight Lifeguards now provide +3 Magic Bonus to attached character, Destination: Harper]
Extending the Shield [45% base chance, 2 turns, 3,000g, 2,000g/turn, able to purchase combat bodyguards for non-family characters, Destination: Harper]

Like this. All 1 turn options and then we can choose either Harmonising or Extending the Shield to finish up the 4 turn martial research bonus. Or, I suppose, we could jump straight to Extending the Shield first after Lesson's Learned. That would match up with the 3 turn levy option.

Roadworks Next Twenty Leagues
[ ] Roads [45% base, 6,000g, 8,000g/turn for 3 turns, reduce by one turn per extra Influence you add to the project, as it helps you gain buy-in from minor houses to contribute, Counts as 1 Infrastructure Action, improve response rolls to trouble in districts]

Get this done while we can still spend the influence!

...And Get Over It [50% base chance, 15,000g, 3,500g/turn, +4,000 Civil Upkeep, 5 turns, bridge over the river, counts as 3 Infrastructure Actions, +2 Commoner Mood, Trade Bonus, Destination: Harper]

I'm... actually really tempted just to stick one of the Lumens on this. Actually, someone suggested sending May to do the roads, but I'd like to switch it around. May does this where we can have our spies discreetly monitor her in a central location, and since May is mentoring Alina, Alina will be there as well so we can choose one of those actions below to try to get her to knock off the Teuv worship. Also, it's one of the few options that I think we got the main bonus already from RTM Tarrant. It's possible some of the rest may also end up helping, but they're so far down the list of RTMs that I don't think it'd be worth waiting for.

Also, Juan's stewardship is higher and this one has the higher base chance.

- Husbandry - [35% base chance, 12,000g, 6,000g/turn, 4 turns, Stewardship/Diplomacy test, Increase Minor House Base Income by 5%, Tellar by 1.5%, Counts as min 1/3 Gentry Actions, Destination: Harper (countryside)] (Pushes some costs on Minor Houses)

I really like this, but I think we'd get bonuses with some more RTM, and I don't think we have a character who can do this without double stacking - and we desperately need those actions elsewhere.

Making Connections [60% base chance, 5,000g, 1 turn, lead to construction options, Destination: Harper (countryside)]
- Know thy Enemy [40% base chance, 3,000g/turn, 2 turns, generate a report on Teuvian Gods, possibly earn bonuses to Teuv related rolls, Destination: Harper]

One thing I don't like about these is that it's hard to find a counterpart to them since they're both Research actions. And generally, Carmen aside, our agents are not particularly well-rounded.

[ ] - The Cure for Stupidity
-[MELODY T?] Arnold Vincennes [Melody Piar, Daisy Connor]

This is the longest assassination. At this point, I expect Melody to have established a network of spies for us there. And whoever that girl Arnold took back.

Gods in Small Places

Well, I've found what we want Melody to do if she ever comes back.

Loose Lips [40% base chance, 2,000g, unlocks new options, Destination: Harper]
[ ] - Follow the Money - [25% base chance, 4,000g, unlocks new options, Destination: Harper]

One of these... and what can we pair for this?

Music Classes - [40% base chance, Magic-Stewardship test, 6,000g, 1,500g/turn, 3 turns, adds +2 Magic boost to 'Schooled' trait for Tellar debutantes and new characters, increases chance of Songweavers among debutantes, Destination: Harper]

Another one that I'd really like, but we don't have the agents to spare and Monica's stewardship is terrible.

Capo Mists.
-[ ] … Jointly with the Capo [Replace above costs with: 40%, 6,000g, Diplomacy/Magic test, 3 turns, research shared with the Capo]

Ties in well with the other action to inform Capo, and this is a more favorable test given Monica's stats and Tellar bonii. I'm not sure how well doing sneaky things in the intrigue house territory was going to go anyway, and besides, Capo Mists? I'm pretty sure we'll want to spread that info anyway if we find out more about why it keeps corresponding to Teuv appearances.

(Non-Agent Action) [ ] - Singing in the Sea Spray - [1 Influence Cost, 40% base chance, tests against Rita Hulland, 1 turn, 5,000g, attempt to teach Naval Songweaving to 4 Songweavers in the Court at Harper, Destination: Harper]

If we can fit this in, I'd like to do this.

- How Did You Do That? [1 Influence Cost, 2 turns, Destination: Harper]

:wtf: Think on your choices. Think on them hard!

[ ] Your young relative, Alice Tellar (Mg 25), would like an opportunity to conduct general research. [Research Type: Various, 15,000g startup, 3,000g per turn upkeep, Research Value: 3d20]

... Maybe. I don't know if we have the finances for this yet.

The Best Tree House in Harper - Monica Reynolds has finished the research camp in the Chiming Forest. Now all that remains is to decide what it will do. The trees of the Chiming Forest have strange properties. Today it is used in weapons and instruments for Songweavers and Spellswords, and you believe the Royal Navy buys a lot of it.
[ ] - Lyrical Lumber - A little scholarly interest could reveal many new applications. [30% base chance, 1 turn, 5,000g, gain construction and research options, Destination: Harper (countryside)]
[ ] - Harmonious Hides - Some of the creatures that live in the chiming forest get ... odd. From talking with the few woodsmen and hunters that live in the area, your scholars learn that their hides can have peculiar properties. [30% base chance, 1 turn, 5,000g, gain infantry and character armour research and construction options, Destination: Harper (countryside)]
[ ] - Sonorous Shadows - There's ... something out there. In the deep woods. Some report seeing .. shapes, floating and flying among the trees. The locals warn you not to tread deeper. What could be out there? [10% base chance, 1 turn, 8,000g, ???, Destination: Harper (countryside)]

@OneirosTheWriter ... So is Sonorous Shadows a combat test? Or a magic test? Both? Also, does Tellar provide any bonus to rolls for combat?

Georgie Hulland - The first of your dedicated researchers, Georgie Hulland is a talented, good natured woman who commands a lot of respect within the Court. Her work is in support Songweaving. [Research Value: 5d20 + 1d20 (Chiming Forest Research Camp)]
[ ] - Hale and Hearty - There is more to Songweaving than just the battlefield. When away from the stress and din you can let your heart pour forth into your voice and do amazing things. Georgie is interested in coming up with ways to sing to the fields and orchards and breath the vitality of the land into them. [Research Requirement: 250, create an action for farm yield improvement]

Yes, please.

(Non-Agent Action) [ ] Louise [1 Influence Cost, 0g, Louise Tellar is appointed as an Agent of Harper]

A stewardship agent! Hallelujah!

The Young and the Stupid

... Well, start with Rehabilitate, I guess.

These look pretty good - except for the part where we can't pick any of them because we'll be busy. In Etela.

If we send Evelyn to display our displeasure is that both her agent action and her personal action or is it just her personal action?

Also is it possible to revise which areas the ruling pair look after as with Evelyn she is a top tier diplomat and top tier song weaver but would be in a role where she would only be responsible for one of those areas after she takes over the ruling pair.

Starting cut down on Agent-required actions...

NEW - What the heck, Hana!? - Well, that's annoying. Sonissimmo has launched four Royal triremes in their own house livery, using the Balan Arsenal to give them an edge no other house can access. This letter from Hana about the complicity of one of the twins makes the situation more complex.
(Default - Non-Agent Action) [ ] Strongly Worded Letter - You are most unamused by this, and when Hana and Avery read your letter on the subject, they will be unamused too! [0 Influence Cost, +2 Relations with Sonissimmo, +1 Relations with greater Etela, -1 Relations with greater Carentan, -2 relations with Carlisle]
[ ] Send An Agent - Words by themselves aren't enough. You can't glare through a piece of paper after all. Well, maybe you could scribble a frowny face in the margins, but that is hardly professional. [Mid-Turn Options Determine Result, Destination: Etela]
[ ] Evelyn - Sometimes you just have to do something yourself. Go, and sort out this problem with your old friend like adults. [Evelyn Tellar Only - Start Interlude, Counts as Evelyn's Personal Action, Destination: Etela]

]In the Navy!
(Pick one)
-[ ] Balan - To the Balan Cloister naval base in Etela, home of the Arsenal and where the bulk of the Royal Navy's major players operate from. It gets to the heart of the matter, but going to Etela could be risky with the way they're feeling right now. Of course, with relationships thawing, it isn't so bad now. [60% base chance, 500g, unlocks new options, Destination: Etela]
-[ ] Valeigh - To the Valeigh Cloister naval base in Arbalen, where the Royal Navy normally maintains the bulk of their fleet, though much of this force has now withdrawn to Etela. But there are still well-informed officials here who you may be able to talk to. [30% base chance, 500g, unlocks new options, 30% chance of -1 relation with Vincennes, Destination: Arbalen]

NEW [ ] - Not The Time - Now that you have learned of the possibility of a full-scale revolt in Arbalen, you need all the other Houses of Sartier to put the hatchets down. You would hope that Sonissimmo and Capo will reign in their troublemakers, but you can make sure of it by stepping in yourself. [35% base chance, 4,000g, Tarrant & Antilles Temporary +2 to Relations with each other, Raleigh & Sarba Temporary +5 Relations with each other, Dale & Vincennes Temporary +2 Relations with each other, Destination: Multiple]

NEW [ ] - Sound the Alarm - Some of the Council argue against potentially spreading panic, that news that the adherents of the Teuv were about and plotting to overthrow the nobles. Panic and-or inspiration, pick your poison. Worse, who knows what will happen if word reaches compromised sources? Yet how could any nation make preparations when they don't know what is happening?
-[ ] ... Quietly - Alert only the Symphonies of Sonissimmo and Capo. [Small chance of word reaching compromised sources, the Great Houses will organise responses]
-[ ] ... Loudly - Alert the Symphonies and Mezzos. [Much larger chance of word getting back to the Teuvian followers and rebels, all Major Houses will prepare responses if able]

NEW [ ] - Settling Accounts - Get Timbre and Carlisle down to talk together.

Putting Yourself In Their Shoes
[ ] - Investigate what might be done to mend fences with House Sarba. [???% chance, new options unlocked, Destination: Sarba]

[ ] - ...But That Is A Sacrifice I Am Willing To Make - Luna wants to form a Levy Board that will take over and streamline the management of Militia and Levies. It is her hope that these will be able to reduce some of the waste associated with these forces. [40% base chance, 8,000g, 3 turns, +5 Morale to Militia and Levy, 10% Reduction in call-up costs]

NEW [ ] - Fleet Base - Build new workyards in the Reynolds hometown of Billfarthing, where most of your fleet is currently based, which will reduce the growing upkeep of your fleet. [55% base chance, 4,000g, 2,000g/turn, 3 turns, gain -5% Upkeep for Triremes, Destination: Harper/Billfarthing]

NEW [ ] - Dyelin Steel - The armour makers in Raleigh have improved their craft, and can now make a superior heavy armor. Perhaps you could purchase new armour for your Inner Guard? [45% base chance, 2,000g, 2,000g/turn, 3 turns, Inner Guard gains +2 Armour Mod (including regiment in training), Destination: Dyelin]

NEW! [ ] - Lessons Learned - You went to Nune Reef, fought a fleet and captured a castle. It was by and large a complete success. But even in a complete success there are lessons to be learned for future affairs. [40% base chance, 4,000g, 1 turn, Gain +10 to martial research rolls for 4 turns, Destination: Non-specific]

[ ] - Calling Florence Nightingale - Not all casualties are lost. Wounded soldiers can be healed and returned to the fray in due course. Fewer dead mean fewer widows, widowers, and orphans, fewer pensions to pay out, more experience retained and better morale for all. Perhaps it is time to look into options for keeping your forces alive better? [40% base chance, 5,000g, unlocks new options, 1 turn, Destination: Harper]

[ ] Supply Corps - Luna would like to pursue possibly raising up a Regiment that consists of troops that serve to supply the other troops. There are probably many who would like to wear Tellar's livery, but don't want to risk getting stabbed on the front line. [50% base chance, Martial/Stewardship test, 6,000g, 2 turns, unlocks Supply Regiment which provides bonuses to attached Regiments in a force, Destination: Harper]

NEW [ ] - Boffins - The Oboe is a design that has served Sartier's houses since it was developed during the days of the God's War with only minor adjustments. But in these turbulent times, perhaps it warrants a critical look? Appointing a few of your idle nobles to start looking into possible improvements could reap rewards. [35% base chance, 1 turn, 6,000g, open improvement options for your ships, Destination: Harper]

[ ] - Harmonising - When at home, the protection of key members of the Great House Tellar bloodline falls to members of the Inner Guard, who perform the roll with aplomb. When it comes time for battle, however, they are protected by Tellar Spellknight Lifeguards, a small set of knights sworn to the protection of their Symphony. Evelyn has recently suggested that more could be done with these powerful guardians, and has suggested a way to make use of their magical prowess to help casters. [40% base chance, 2 turns, 6,000g, Spellknight Lifeguards now provide +3 Magic Bonus to attached character, Destination: Harper]

NEW! [ ] - Extending the Shield - When Monica was nearly felled by a common arrow at Nune Reef, it sparked a conversation in Harper about whether more could be done to protect key assets of the realm when they had to venture forth. Unfortunately, there are only so many spellknights to go around. What she would like to do is design a new system of bodyguards drawn from the expanded Inner Guard that handle your day-to-day bodyguarding. [45% base chance, 2 turns, 3,000g, 2,000g/turn, able to purchase combat bodyguards for non-family characters, Destination: Harper]

[ ] - Over time the main roads that connect the city of Harper and the settlements of the Minor Houses, have begun to suffer from neglect. If you could renew these important paths, far more traffic between the settlements of Harper would be possible. [45% base, 6,000g, 8,000g/turn for 3 turns, reduce by one turn per extra Influence you add to the project, as it helps you gain buy-in from minor houses to contribute, Counts as 1 Infrastructure Action, improve response rolls to trouble in districts]

[ ] - There have been calls recently to rebuild the riverside dock facilities along the Barossa River. Rebuilt piers, repairs to the cargo cranes, clearing out some of the slums that have started to intrude onto the docks, all would do wonders for improving the productivity of the river docks. After going to see how Carlisle handles their port infrastructure, Juan has come back full of inspiration, and ways to expand on the project. [55% base chance, Counts as 2 Infrastructure Actions, 10,000g, 6,000g/turn for 5 turns, notable increase in trade income for all settlements on the Barossa River (Harper, Dyelin, a few Minor Houses in both provinces)]

[ ] - There are a few places in Tellar where minor rivers bisect your roads, and ferry systems handle the load. In some cases, routes are even entirely cut off in some weather. Spending some time with your new friends in Tarrant has taught Juan a number of ways to make bridging many of the key routes a feasible reality. [50% base chance, 4,000g, 5,000g/turn, 4 turns, Counts as 1 Infrastructure Action, +1 Relations with all Minor houses, +2% Minor House Income]

[ ] - ...And Get Over It - The three major stewards of Tellar, Andres, Juan and May, have been cooking up a project privately for a while: a bridge over the broad Barossa River. At the moment, cross-river travel is handled by ferry, which is hardly efficient. A solid bridge could do wonders for the city. [50% base chance, 15,000g, 3,500g/turn, +4,000 Civil Upkeep, 5 turns, bridge over the river, counts as 3 Infrastructure Actions, +2 Commoner Mood, Trade Bonus, Destination: Harper]

[ ] - Husbandry - Looking at how Tarrant handles pastoralism in their province has provided inspiration as to how farmers in your own districts can reform their practices. [35% base chance, 12,000g, 6,000g/turn, 4 turns, Stewardship/Diplomacy test, Increase Minor House Base Income by 5%, Tellar by 1.5%, Counts as min 1/3 Gentry Actions, Destination: Harper (countryside)] (Pushes some costs on Minor Houses)

Read the Manual - Almost every other House already has better infrastructure. Perhaps it would be a good idea to send someone to another House to study? [60% Base chance, 2,000g, improves "Roadworks Next Twenty Leagues actions, better base chances, moderates failure states, 1 turn, Destination: Dependent]
-[ ] Write in House to study (chance of improved relations) - Already studied: Carlisle, Tarrant

NEW [ ] - How Can We Help? - After looking over Carlisle and Tarrant, and conducting research over the last few months, Juan Lumen wants to look into how the Executive, Exchequer, and Tariff Chief actually influence the health of a House's finances. [45% base chance, 4,000g, 2 turns, get explanation on Stewardship Bonuses, Destination: Harper]

NEW - Trade Deals - May Lumen is stressing the need to start getting some proper trade deals going, especially now that Khironex has mapped a rudimentary route through the delta at the end of the Barossa River between Harper and Billfarthing.
-[ ] Bells Are Ringing - A trade deal with Khironex could stand you in very good stead, especially with their current gratitude. [45% base chance, 5,000g, 2 turns, gain 2,000g/turn in trade, Destination: Khironex] (Trade values will increase significantly as Making Connections action tree completes)

[ ] - Making Connections - Find out how feasible it is to carve a way through the marshes of the Barossa River Delta to properly connect Harper and Billfarthing for full-size ships, which would do much to improve trade for both Harper and Dyelin. If they think it can be done, your engineers will present you with possible plans. [60% base chance, 5,000g, 1 turn, lead to construction options, Destination: Harper (countryside)]

[ ] - Know thy Enemy - You know that Teuv is a large land-mass to the south-east that is home to zealous devotees of a pantheon of gods. But as things have been quiet for fifty years, much of the institutional knowledge has faded. Who are the Teuvian gods? What is their nature? What makes them attractive to followers? Perhaps it is time to do some digging. [40% base chance, 3,000g/turn, 2 turns, generate a report on Teuvian Gods, possibly earn bonuses to Teuv related rolls, Destination: Harper]

[ ] - Slicing the Apron Strings - The Royal Navy is more than too fond of the old regime, you have found out they are effectively entirely co-opted. Opinions are divided as to what to do about it, because many see it as a danger to your continued hold on power. Perhaps you should look into the matter and see what your spies can tell you about the Navy and their intentions. [35% base chance, 3,000g, 1 turn, Unlocks intrigue options for interacting with the Royal Navy, Destination: Etela]

[ ] - Gods in Small Places - The Teuvian faith is spreading within the provinces of Sartier. Some provinces are more infested than others, but all are at least somewhat affected. Hamid wants to start using his agents to infiltrate the networks of believers rather than simply playing whack-a-mole. [40% base chance, 7,000g, Intrigue Test, high chance of combat, gain intelligence on Teuv groups, Destination: Harper]

[ ] - Loose Lips - Even before the entire order of Sartier was turned on its ear spies were trafficking themselves about with wild abandon. You are sure it will only get worse from here. Hamid wants funding to research ways to keep the Barossa Citadel clear of intruders. [40% base chance, 2,000g, unlocks new options, Destination: Harper]

[ ] - Follow the Money - Patricia Frunkle has long known that you can learn just about anything by knowing where the money goes. Hamid agrees fully. He'd like to spend some time looking into ways to better equip your agents to track that. [25% base chance, 4,000g, unlocks new options, Destination: Harper]

[ ] Music Classes - At the moment, formal music classes are mostly the province of the wealthy who can afford it, or very talented commoners who catch attention. Rita would like to see an expansion of formal teaching. [40% base chance, Magic-Stewardship test, 6,000g, 1,500g/turn, 3 turns, adds +2 Magic boost to 'Schooled' trait for Tellar debutantes and new characters, increases chance of Songweavers among debutantes, Destination: Harper]

[ ] Capo Mists. The mists in the warm northern part of the island are plainly unnatural. The strongest areas correspond to regions with many of the tallest tales and most bizarre happenings. [20% Base Chance, 15,000g Stewardship/Magic test, 4 turns, Destination: Carentan]
-[ ] … Jointly with the Capo - If you approach the Capo openly, there's a good chance they'd be perfectly happy to join you in this endeavour. Their Court Songweaver, Luke Capo, is not quite Rita's equal, but he's still a fine mage with much to offer. [Replace above costs with: 40%, 6,000g, Diplomacy/Magic test, 3 turns, research shared with the Capo]
[ ] Mountains hold many veins of magic in their granite grasp, and setting up camp in some of the abandoned old mines of central mountains could be very rewarding. [35% Base chance, 12,000g, 2,000g/turn, 4 turns, Destination: Dyelin]

[ ] Your young relative, Alice Tellar (Mg 25), would like an opportunity to conduct general research. [Research Type: Various, 15,000g startup, 3,000g per turn upkeep, Research Value: 3d20]

NEW The Best Tree House in Harper - Monica Reynolds has finished the research camp in the Chiming Forest.

NEW [ ] - A Grand Fleet - The Start - Tellar and her Minor House Vassals maintain their own little fleets, with their own little fleet bases, their own commands, and their own quartermasters. It's a crazy idea but ... perhaps Tellar and her six Minor Houses could pool their resources and coordinate their patrols? [40% base chance, 8,000g, 3 turns, -5% to naval upkeep for Tellar and Minor Houses, start progressing towards unifying the fleets] (Made available by Nat 100 in So Big and Blue)

(Evelyn only, free action) - Backup Plan - While your dad and aunt certainly don't plan on getting bumped off, you never know when something could befall them. Both are no strangers to battle and, tough as they are, fortune can claim anyone, and if either dies it dissolves the Symphony and you will have to take their place. Problem is … You have no clue who would join you to form the Symphony. Maybe you should start looking ahead of time? (Can be reused as you become more acquainted with more courts)
[ ] - Not Quite Moestorm - Believe it or not, you're now probably the most eligible Bachelor in all of Sartier. You haven't been particularly interested up till now, and to be truthful, you've spent more energy on dueling than dating. [Start putting feelers out for potentially interested candidates]
[ ] - Looking For Kindred Spirits - As the inheriting line, it is up to you to pick a Symphonius to join you in ruling Harper. However, it doesn't have to be a husband, or a brother, or a friend, or cousin or, well anything else. All it has to be is someone reliable, talented, trustworthy, who won't freak your populace out, make people worry about flight risks, have dark secrets, and whom you can trust to lead half of your House. That shouldn't be too hard to find, right? [Start putting out feelers for non-marriage candidates]
@OneirosTheWriter @Macchiato If Evelyn is sent to Etela for "What the heck, Hana":
1) Confirmation that is not exclusive and we could use her to, for example, talk to the Royal Navy
1a) Clarification on whether the stunt to send someone to speak to Sonissimmo or Capo only about the Teuv threat turns that from Red to White due to making it not a multiple-location travel option
2) Clarification on whether this locks out Backup Plan as it is a free action and further clarification on whether where Evelyn is located in a given turn affects what results she'll get on Backup Plan

3) Separately: Is Sarba cooler with us or is it just not an option to permanently try and solve their issues because of the Teuv crisis?

4) Is A Grand Fleet Martial or Diplomacy? (Or both?)

5) Requoting:
Hmm. @OneirosTheWriter @Macchiato Do Hamid and Theo know each other well enough to null the Chv/Dread penalty if they were to work together on an action?

---

Priorities haven't changed for this turn that much. Still Sartier issues in terms of Tellar not being respected enough, still economic issues with Tellar only barely into econ, and Teuv issues kinda getting worse.

So...what are our limits right now:
55k Income + 19k from fines expected
90k treasury
Given usual expenditures, we can safely spend somewhere around 65-70k to not burn down the treasury too much (a little is fine) and to keep a reserve in place for mid-turn shenanigans. This...isn't actually that much when you look at all the hilarious expensive stuff I highlighted above. It's definitely econ and research's time to get a share of the budget, but sheesh.

Agents:
Evelyn is going to Etela, no real question there.
May is getting a econ Action of some kind in Harper. She's both mildly suspicious still and she has the Architect trait. Given that we don't have the Influence, I'm leaning Bridge or Docks. I don't think we have the money for Husbandry even if I want it more.
Juan has some options, there are more attractive research picks to do, could also put him on an Action as well to double down. He's okay as a Diplomat too if he's getting sent elsewhere for RTM. I think I have a good synergy plan for him, actually, the more I look at it.
We probably need someone else in Etela given the hotspot actions there, we probably need someone over in Carentan...though you know what, it might be okay to just not tell Sonissimmo and Capo this turn to save actions and agents. Something to think about. Note that Sound the Alarm is a diplo action, even if there isn't a chance associated. I saw an idea about having Monica do research in Carentan along with the Capo (which is exclusive, mind) and while if she does that she needs a backup agent to unlock it anyway because her Diplo is shit and that agent can thus then also talk to Capo about the Teuv...it's still kind of a waste.

@OneirosTheWriter ... So is Sonorous Shadows a combat test? Or a magic test? Both? Also, does Tellar provide any bonus to rolls for combat?
It can get you into a combat test depending on how things go. It is a Magic test to start with. Tellar doesn't provide additional combat bonuses.
Yes, these can be added onto stunts for people who are already headed to Carentan and Etela.
Well, the most important part of the divide is that a Marshall looks outside the House, an Executive looks within the House. That's part of the duality of a ruling pair.
Theo is Dread 2, Hamid is Dread 4; there is no Chiv/Dread penalty to apply.

1) Confirmation that is not exclusive and we could use her to, for example, talk to the Royal Navy
Yes
1a) Clarification on whether the stunt to send someone to speak to Sonissimmo or Capo only about the Teuv threat turns that from Red to White due to making it not a multiple-location travel option
Yes, as long as someone is in Carentan to talk to Lucas and Theresa Capo.
2) Clarification on whether this locks out Backup Plan as it is a free action and further clarification on whether where Evelyn is located in a given turn affects what results she'll get on Backup Plan
Mrrrrrrrr, no it does not lock it out, and yes, her location influences what is around to look at.

3) Separately: Is Sarba cooler with us or is it just not an option to permanently try and solve their issues because of the Teuv crisis?
Their 'Put Yourself in Their Shoes' action hasn't been taken yet.

4) Is A Grand Fleet Martial or Diplomacy? (Or both?)
Martial

Herpaderp, thanks. Already making mistakes, I continue to blame this stupid laptop, don't have my second monitor to drag the datasheets to.

Waffling on options here. It's actually attractive to toss Theo onto magic stuff also but this locks him up to not be a beatstick when needed. Same with everyone else, Dominic being locked up has really actually hamstrung us in certain ways given all the diplo stuff going on. Might be able to use Luna on multi-turn research since we'll get Dominic back and a free action, though...

Juan's been useful on easier diplo too so not having him locked up for too long helps. Hamid needs to be able to react...Monica we can safely sock away on research, I know exactly what I want her to do, I just need to find something to pair her with...actually, she's viable for Martial too...

Their 'Put Yourself in Their Shoes' action hasn't been taken yet.
...but the action is gone.

Hamid Hulland

[X] The Cradle of a Fleet [60% base chance of success, 6,000g, 3,000g per turn (2,000g per turn for House Reynolds), +3 Relations with House Reynolds, 6 turns, Flute-grade Shipyard berths increase to 6, Agent available after 2 turns, Counts as 1 Infrastructure Action] (Will provide bonuses to A Grand Fleet)

[X] -
Know thy Enemy [40% base chance, 3,000g/turn, 2 turns, generate a report on Teuvian Gods, possibly earn bonuses to Teuv related rolls, Destination: Harper]

Total Cost: (600g * 6 = 3600g) + 2000g + 500g + (6,000g + 2,000g = 8,000g) + (6,000g + 8,000g = 14,000g) + (8,000g + 4,000g = 12,000g) + (5,000g + 5,000g) + (9,000g + 3,000g = 12,000g) = 62,100
Total Influence: 10 - 2 (Dale) - 4 (Non-Agent Actions) - 2 (Roads) = 2 left for Mid-Turn

Here's my tentative plan. OK, before everyone starts laughing...

- OK, it's true. Theo has terrible stewardship. But this is a base 60% so add on his stewardship plus bonii, it's 89% chance of doing this. And look, it's just a 1 turn thing, and we can have our new Stewardship agent take over with the actual construction stuff after (or do something else)
- I'm undecided between Harmonious Hides (which is less risky at around 84%) and just going YOLO and trying for Sonorous Shadows. Theo does have the unique skillset of being both a magic and combat monster. The only other person who can probably match him in an overall sense has ridiculous diplomacy and will be needed elsewhere. I think this option will always be a bit of a gamble.
- So Hamid... Uh, look, our stewardship agents are only decent, and strangely, Hamid has a really good stewardship score relative to his peers at our House! Plus, it matches up turn wise with the Teuv set and all of this is set in Harper.

*fumes* Okay, I'm calling that we can't deal with Sarba or with Carlisle+Timbre this turn. The only vaguely capable Chivalry Diplo Agent available is May and haha no. Evelyn is dealing with Sonissimmo's idiocy, Dominic is still tied up, Carmen is sick, and everyone else is Dread. So in some sense that makes things easier by just writing that off...

Here's my tentative plan. OK, before everyone starts laughing...
While you were writing this up, I've made a few relevant comments interspersed above. I won't pick your plan apart, just that you may want to consider them.

(For example specifically: Monica has garbo Diplomacy and you have her doing two Diplo actions... 40% + 16 (Monica) + 15 (Evelyn)+ 8 (Antonia) =79% )

I've made no secret that I tilt towards aggressive plans but only in dire circumstances/lack of any other options do I think we should really push the envlope. In general I feel we do still want to limit our failure chances where possible--because I recognize that yes when we throw enough 80-85% we're going to eat failures. And from how the Hamid and Charlie cooperation thing, that was even fairly benign and that was still a really annoying failure.

I was actually more worried about costs. I'm not sure what to do about that yet. But in any case, it's just the one diplomacy, no? There's no percentage chance on informing quietly, presumably because there's no negotiating - it's just a straight relay of information.

This is probably the riskiest action of the ones I chose. Theo's actions are more like nice bonii if they succeed.

Generally, I just like the fluff idea of us sending Monica - who would be recognizable as one of the Elite Songweavers and thus, noticeable - and disguise information sharing behind another valid request to set up a magic research facility. It totally plays into our reputation of being magic-obsessed beatsticks, giving people what they want to see. I feel like Capo would appreciate tradecraft like that.

Edit: Dropped roads. Too expensive. Switched to using up the 2 influence elsewhere then setting Juan to Logistics. Might as well match up with what Luna is up to.

So does What the Heck Hana?
-Evelyn
count as a white action for Evelyn that also consumes her personal action as well or is it a personal action in which case she is free to take a white and blue action in Etela
Evelyn can take on a second action. Sound the alarm is kinda being thrown in for people as a freebie because if you're not taking additional travel, and you're already in Etela, then it basically only requires a meeting or two.

Also can you include the Symphony Bonuses in a Table as well at the start of the turn for the five scores?
Right I'll add that to the list once I get a chance.

Action failures are actually pretty bad in this Quest, they tend to give lingering penalties and other maluses. We've been very fortunate thus far but I'd prefer not to see more occur. Failure in that specific case would actually block progression and probably lock the thing out--it's something best paired with having Evelyn on hand so she can ghetto diplomacy things like she did with getting Rita into Naval Songweaving.

The other one may not have a % chance but almost all actions still have some kind of roll associated (except for placing really trivial orders of stuff and minor house stuff). It may not fail but any other benefits will likely be lost because Monica has a poor chance at making the subrolls and diplo rep ones. (Kinda ironic given her character and depiction but I guess she gets by on...other assets.)

Mind, we're short in general on Diplo guys or reasons to be in Carentan, so I still have some homework to do there...may have to change course from my previous declaration and have Juan do it and RTM Capo. (Ugh, now I need to go back and find Oneiros' post on what RTM on a given area does.) @OneirosTheWriter @Macchiato Will Sound the Alarm also be 'free' for whoever is in Cartentan?

@OneirosTheWriter @Macchiato Will Sound the Alarm also be 'free' for whoever is in Cartentan?
Yes

Action failures are actually pretty bad in this Quest, they tend to give lingering penalties and other maluses.
Fwiw, actions are meant to succeed here - you're supposed to get what you see, and the rest is haggling about the degree of success (hence the sub-roll system).

So if an action fails outright, then Something Went Wrong.

I mean, they won't usually be as bad as the time Imrix dropped an Imperial Civil War in our laps after rolling a 4 on a routine diplomacy action in Ulthuan Quest. But still. "Something Went Wrong".

Just requoting this primarily for my own reference but in case anyone else ends up considering it:
Read the Manual Focuses:
Tellar - Songweaver academies (Stewardship poor, don't expect much)
Carlisle - Ports, Trade, Economics, Shipbuilding
Raleigh - Mining, Smithing (Stewardship poor, don't expect much)
Vincennes - Architecture, Fortress Building

Sonissimmo - Grand Architecture, Shipbuilding, Civil Planning, Economics
Tarrant - Pastoralism, Ports, Bridge-Building
Sarba - Agriculture, Artisinal Architecture (Stewardship poor, don't expect much)
Timbre - Agriculture, Civil Planning, Gentry Improvements

Capo - Mining, Resource Gathering, Harbour Fort Building
Antilles - Bridge building, Waterwheels, Mass Crafthalls
Dale - Trade, Ports, Fortress Building
(Godammit Capo you are not very useful, I don't care about 2/3 of your stuff)

@OneirosTheWriter @Macchiato Where can I find the call-up costs for Militia and deployment costs for standing troops for trying to put together a custom Paying Your Dues submission?

1,000g for a Militia Regiment, no extra costs for the time being on standing troops.
How grumpy/cheerful are our Minor Houses in regard to getting an 'opportunity' like being requested to submit something for Paying Your Dues?

And what stat is "The Cradle of a Fleet"?

Thanks for all the answers, as always!

(Oh for the love of...I just realized that when I shut down tomorrow to lock my laptop up during the day, when I come back I'm going to have to reopen all the spoiler blocks for all the tabs I have open to reference while planning for this turn. RIP me)
