Hey everyone, just a quick note about the Steam Deck release and RimWorld.

RimWorld works on Steam Deck as it is now, but there are a number of UI issues and some general jankiness we intend to solve with an update.

Our developer who was working on this lives in Ukraine. After delays getting the Deck to him, the current situation there means he won't be making progress any time soon.

Our tech lead Piotr Walczak is taking over Steam Deck integration efforts. However, we probably won't have an integration patch out until after the Deck is released.

To those of you excited to play RW on the Deck - We are excited too! Please look forward to updates that should solve issues you might find. If you can, consider waiting for the update before you dive in. We want the experience to be as great as possible and we're working to make that happen.

We also welcome reports of any issues on the official dev Discord here. Knowing the problems helps us solve them!

Thanks to everyone for your understanding.
- Ty

:(

It will be an amazing day when you can fit RW with all the mods on a portable device. Though i'm not sure about buying steamdeck myself.

I'm more baffled at how you can play RimWorld on a controller. Sure you can hook it up to a screen but mobile RimWorld sounds like a dream.

It's trying to play it without a proper mouse that I'd be worried about.

In mod weirdness news, I think Misc. Faction Bases might need its settings tweaked. I knew that raider base had a lot of mortar ammunition lying around, in a room with multiple mini turrets no less, but 38 antigrain warheads? Bloody good thing I decided to use tear gas for that airstrike, I could have lost half the population of the colony. The half that can shoot straight no less!

Anyone got a way to get Holograms from Save Our Ship 2 to work with Search and Destroy?
Kind of a downer that they aren't compatible

Update 1.3.3287 makes ideoligions smoother to play

Steam :: RimWorld :: Update 1.3.3287 makes ideoligions smoother to play

This update makes the ideoligions system more flexible and fixes a variety of smaller issues.

Tuning - Ideoligions
- Meme FleshPurity no longer forces the anti-biosculpting precept. This should allow players to use biosculpting to recover limbs for their purists so they don't end up being all amputees after a while.
- Bigotry precepts don't have associated memes any more, so won't appear unless specifically configured by the player. This reduces annoyances around dealing with bigoted guests and recruits.
- Remove the carnivore precept requirements from the Rancher meme. Reduce Rancher meme's plant work speed factor from 0.9 to 0.70. Reduce Rancher meme's impact from 3 to 2. This reduces annoyances and fiddliness with carnivore food restrictions, and balances the meme more simply, with an upside to animal raising matched by a downside to crop raising.
- Remove the 'no recent animal slaughter' negative thought from the rancher meme, along with all associated code and content. This particular thought was too limiting for players and not worth having.
- Remove most meme associations from vegetarian and carnivore precepts. These shouldn't appear unless player specifically configures them. This should reduce annoyances around food requirements of specific guests or recruits.

One day I'll play Flesh Purity but today is not that day.

RimWorld - RimWorld removed from sale in Australia on Steam, existing owners unaffected - Steam News
Hello everyone,

Unfortunately, we've just been informed that RimWorld has just been made unavailable for new purchases by Australian customers on Steam.

This does not seem to affect existing owners - it only prevents new purchases. Anyone who already owns the game is still be able to play, receive updates and access community features like the forums and workshop. The Ideology and Royalty expansions are also not affected.

We don't have a ton of information about this since it just happened within the last few hours, it's Friday evening, and most people we could ask are not at work.

From the info we have, this happened because a few days ago, the Australian Classification Board classified a potential console version of RimWorld as "Refused Classification (RC)", meaning it can't be sold in Australia.

We did not expect this to affect the Steam version because in previous similar cases, as with Disco Elysium for example, an RC rating on a console version did not affect the availability of the PC version on Steam. We're not sure why this decision was made in RimWorld's case.

I'm sorry this news was so sudden and for anyone who is frustrated by this. We are working to resolve this situation and make RimWorld available to everyone again as soon as possible, but we don't yet know what that might require or how long it may take.

Thanks for your understanding everyone.

good thing i bought it already

I know Australia has some weird media censorship rules, is it the cannibalism do you think?

When looking at the research screen, I notice that the end-tier stuff comes with a note about it being spacer tech level while I'm at the industrial level. Is there a way to bump my level or would that require starting a new game with the rich jerk option?

No need. If you're tribal, you're neolithic level and you can't really change that unless you edit in the scenario editor. All research projects are achievable regardless of starting situation. When it says you're industrial, it just means you start off as industrial and have no bonuses or malus to research speed.

And I have finally beaten a game of Rimworld! Built a ship that could go out of the system, carrying the original three saps that I started the game with. left another 17 behind because I didn't want to bother constructing the cyropods for them, but I'm sure I could have otherwise. And only took me putting a mere 100 hours into the game, too!

So I was going in hard with the vampires mod and realized that this playstyle is perfect for speedrunning and bypassing infrastructure roadblocks. They don't need food except for having animals around to feed on, they don't need to worry about temperature, they don't need medical care but they can use it, they're surprisingly stable and easy to maintain mood for, and they absolute dominate most human threats so long as they aren't wildly outnumbered.

The only real drawbacks is sunlight (but they can last to a certain extent and hang out under cover no problem), and how being attacked during the day can put you in a messy spot. They also can only travel during the night, but that's offset by them not needing any supplies. They're also not friendly to a rancher playstyle because they will kill your animals, there's no way to designate them as not-prey. Also, a vampire going out to hunt for blood will prioritize that over anything else, always. And if they pick a fight with a strong animal they can end up derailing a night of labor.

Bloodlines that use Domination disciplines (Lasombra, Tremere) are super useful since the first level spell can just Thanos snap mental states.

EDIT: Also since vampires are likely to kill animals feeding on them (even on the non-lethal feeding setting) it's viable to not assign a hunter but designate every animal as huntable. So their corpses will be automatically dragged to storage if they die. They're not that reliable in killing things, so maybe you assign someone to hunt situationally. Though that's in case you have non-vampire pawns as well.

RimWorld - Update 1.3.3326 brings full support for Steam Deck - Steam News

UI and control improvements for Steam Deck and more

Before I get into the update, I wanted to share that our developer who was living in Ukraine is now safe in Germany. He's staying with one of our former team members and we're doing what we can to help him get set up there. Thank you for all the kind comments and for thinking of our team. 💛

Fantastic news, everyone!

Note to self, with pawnmorpher pawns will pick social fights with sapient animals, this includes tyrannosaurs.

Fun fact, drop pods can puncture right through thin rock roofs. Fun fact, they can bring rubble down around them, forming a wall on all sides. Fun fact, raiders can starve to death inside of a prison cell of their own devising without me having to do a single thing about it.

Why didn't they mine their way out?
