Ride the Lightning (Worm / DC Comics Cross Over)

I'm also reading Wildworm right now and thus Cauldron doing experiments on DNA/tech has got me real nervous.

It's interesting posting this story here and on SB. The difference in reactions is golden. Over there it has been all about Lung and Laz-E-Boys.

Here it's about the lady in the hat.

I am debating with myself doing an interlude going into that, or just having what happens go down off screen and then having the impact show up.

I will say that she isn't up to what most people think she is up to. There are.... three readers who have completely cracked the plot / end game. I'm pretty sure they could figure it out, but so far have been pretty awesome about not spoiling anything.

Go Taylor! =)

Arguably she's de-fanged the ABB by the application of rhetoric. I think her mum would be so very proud right now. I doubt that a parahuman's drive for conflict would have let canon Taylor pull that off.

Given that the Speed Force comes from a much lighter universe, and that Taylor's not a parahuman, I suspect that she may well be able to pull off much of her stated aims.

The discussion with Lung was pretty interesting. I like how we got to see him being smart and almost philosophical at times. I've noticed people mentioning he must be smart to have run a gang for as long as he has, but it is rarely shown. Your portrayal here is refreshing.

This is interesting, there's so very few fics where someone has actually spoken with lung instead of simply spoken to him.
Mainly cause, if someone with such a useful power goes through all the effort of being an evil gang leader instead of just taking the easier money and life in legal fields it makes a lot of sense to respect their wishes.

Clearly they're dedicated to being a shit.

Excellent chapter, actual conversation, character development, and setup for possibly more in the future. Very enjoyable stuff, and well written to boot, it just keeps getting better and better. Actual conversations in a Worm fic that don't result in fights? Amazing stuff!

A tiny touch of apprehension about suddenly Cauldron, and the possibility of more in the future, but that's more a learned cynicism from too many fanfics. Narratively, I think they work best, and contribute the most, to a story by their presence being minimal, perhaps even to the point of requiring more than one read through to realise their presence and influence, so if you are open to suggestions I would say keep it all off-screen if possible. :)

Cauldron is always an interesting problem in these fic's. When Taylor (or an OC...... but really, mostly Taylor) ends up with a super OP ability with massive setting impacting potential... it is weird when the shadowy conspiracy to stop the end of the world doesn't take notice.

Of course it is also weird when they DO take notice and then don't change anything.

In this case, the fact that Taylor has access to the Speed Force has huge implications for the setting, so I felt it would be wrong for Cauldron to take no notice. That said, huge shadowy conspiracy with a decades long time table, they can afford to remain shadowy for now.

If I do write out what they actually do with what they now have, I'll post it well after the fact.

I just realized something: that noodle shop Lung goes to is going to basically be the Bad Guy Bar the Rogues would hang out in. In CW!Flash it's where Barry would go to talk to Snart to stay updated on the Underworld.

I couldn't help but to think about how nice people were in this city.
Yes. Contessa can be quite nice, when the path demands it.

************Authors Note**************
So, i was just gonna give the story a like, but this AN demands a Funny. Because it really was :D

Hmm. A reasonable Lung? Nice.

"So…… you haven't wiped out the Empire because…. you are saving them for a rainy day?"

"HA! Yes, a rainey day."
Hahahaha, oh man. I have books i do that with as well, and it just makes it all better :D

I turn to leave, waving at the ABB doorman before I shoot away. I head six blocks down, three blocks over, and spiral my way back, getting halfway there before I catch up to the drug dealer. A quick search shows he still has the merchandise on him, as well as about $4000 in cash. I drop him off at the nearest precinct house before heading home.
I gotta say, it really paid off, being honest and frank with Lung. She told him that she would arrest that guy and he doesn't even bat an eye. Though, it might reflect poorly on Lung. He practically said that she could arrest him. I don't think most of the ABB would like that.

A group of Capes rob a casino in your territory and you put two of them in the hospital, one of which may never wake up again.

Well guess we now know what happened to the Undersiders.

Definitely one of the Flashes (Barry) best traits is he is a person first and a superhero second. He will usually try and talk someone down before the violence. Your Taylor has definitely learned this lesson well, bravo.

Edit: Sorry I thought that was Barry, turns out its Wally. Still awesome though.

Lung does have a defense, however.

"You were peddling drugs in front of a hero. You didn't move. You didn't leave the area. You didn't take reasonable precautions to ensure your safety and freedom. You are a fool - and I have no tolerance for fools."

Fair enough :D But he might have thought it was okay. After all, it was a Cape walking alongside Lung. He might have thought himself safe, thinking Lung would protect him. But yeah. Lung doesn't care for fools

"Understand little hero, I do not actually run the Azn Bad Boys. I am Lung, and I am the strongest. I respond to challenges and insults, because I am bored and prideful. The rest? The list of crimes which you laid out back in the park? Simply the motion of the planets as they move in orbit around me. Like the sun I normally move about my business paying the passing of lesser bodies no mind."

"Still, while the sun could care less about what Mars does in it's orbit, it is only in that orbit because the sun is there. You may not care about the drugs, assaults, the human trafficking… but you are still ultimately responsible for everything that happens in your orbit."

A chill runs down my spine while I wait for his response.

"I suppose so."

Yess, my favorite. This is basically my interpretation of the ABB. What was presented in Emma's interlude is basically untenable on a large scale. So I always headcanoned it as it being from one of the gangs making up the ABB, rather than the ABB as a whole.

And Lung doesn't care. Lung's cares are as follows: He gets the respect he deserves, He isn't hassled needlessly, Asians stop fighting each other (that's a goddamn hassle), he gets his money, his Lay-Z-Boy, Sex, and I don't know he seems like the kind of guy who could use some weed.

Given how Lung got his Trigger in the first place .. uh, yeah. You go offer Lung some weed. I'll be outside the blast radius.

We who are about to learn something salute you!

I don't see why you think being thrown into a pile of cocaine would cause him to have a bad reaction to weed. Am I missing something?

I love this story, really. Taylor has an OP power, but she'd not getting a huge ego about it. She's being active in fighting crime in the 'typical' sense while also learning and training so she can combat the deep causes. On top of that, she's making herself more personable and known to people, working part-time, going to school, and talking with her dad.

She doesn't think she can save the world in some big, flashy way (though she does have a good chance of taking out some S-class threats), so she's fighting it as best she can.

The real question is does Taylor believe she can deal with S-Class threats by herself? Until she does (or until she has no other choice) she's not going to try.

You know, I can see Lung making such a policy with Flash!Taylor. Since she told him upfront, talked with him instead of to him and basicly asked for permission it might be an unofficial rule amongst ABB members.

"The Flash shall weed out the fools amongst you. Lung has spoken."
