Replacing the Zippo

Fun thought if Marcie wear Susan Storm in Holloween will this help her control her invisibility?

Would work if Ethan has one in his costume shop. That event will be interesting to just see what options we can pick for that night and I don't think its really one we have to stop from happening? I expect we'll begin to see a number of ripples this phase as we push through it, going to be interesting.

Now as for the actual choices:
I disagree with the Hug sessions being pervy, I think we've done pretty good to not pursue Buffy in a manner like that. Of the pre-written options I like it the best. Letting her isolate and ignore I think isn't great, and I do agree that the dart board idea is a violent outlet option, also involves consistently looking at the faces of those that frustrate/harmed her.

I do think a group activity would be a good route for a write in, but not sure what exactly, I've considered movie watching perhaps it is what eventually happens in season 4's finale kinda. Could do something constructive, be that suggesting something like cooking/baking, or artistic like Drawing/Painting/Writing/Music/ect though those are likely to be more solo though I think could be an option, that route is suggesting that just because she is the Slayer doesn't mean that she is purely a tool of destruction, also being one of making could be poignant? Hmm I'm flipping a bit probably something that can be done alone is good because its true we can't be there all the time, but we also want to be able to support her...

Jumping from that to the bones, I think digging up the bones ourselves isn't great, though we have been studying things we can bring up reading something about a ritual that can bring back one to life. But assuming we don't get caught performing it could save a lot of heart ache. The second option is kinda the show choice, and I'm not sure how much ripples I want to do from the jump... but I kinda want to make some. I think I'll take a bit more time to consider.

I like the idea of a group activity that lets Buffy spent time with others. Maybe Board Game night? Once a week, they can try to play some board games and eat snacks together, though the timing would have to be flexible based on supernatural emergencies and school.

Xander can also suggest taking up hobbies, and the group can make a game out of trying out different hobbies to see what everyone likes. It would be good for everyone to have something they can do to destress when no one else is available.

I'm thinking that Xander should probably tell Giles about spying on the demons at Wiley's bar. He'd have to ask Marcie if she wants her part revealed as well first, but Xander has already made clear to Giles that he knows that participating might lead to his death. Giles and Marcie can then help him dig up the bones without getting killed by vampires.

I'm not so sure about telling Buffy and Willow though. Keeping secrets from the others feels like a bad idea, but I also feel like they'd immediately tell Xander to stop doing it without putting much thought into his perspective. This isn't canon Xander though so it's possible that they'd take him more seriously. Though I think Buffy would take it badly if Xander said that he's willing to risk dying in order to help in the fight against the supernatural.

I've been thinking more on this. If Giles agrees with Xander continuing to get information from Wiley's Bar, then maybe they can tell Buffy and Willow that Xander and Marcie have found a way to get intel on what the supernatural community is up to, but spreading that knowledge could be dangerous for them so they're going to stay quiet on the details. It would probably work better if they tell Willow before Buffy gets back and then present it to Buffy as a done deal.
Can Xander just tell Giles everything that Xander knows about the future? He is trying to play on rails and has not thought through the consequences of that.
Giles would have no reason to believe that Xander is telling the truth instead of being bewitched by the demons he's been hanging out with.

I think revealing our foreknowledge is quite dangerous, and Giles in particular still isn't fully into the team spirit, nor rebelled against the Watcher's Council yet. I don't know if he would keep such a secret in the best scenario, and I really would like to live through Angelus and not being a confirmed spoiler warning when/if he goes soulless is probably a major point towards that happening. That is ignoring Giles considering us simply tainted in dark magics or manipulated by Demons, which are even more likely than the best case scenarios.

I see no outcome that Giles is into our Willy's Bar interactions, a bit of fibbing about reading about a ritual that could revive the Master with his bones isn't quite a lie and would keep the Willy's Bar stuff under more wraps while doing much the same outcome. This has some plausible deniability given he knows we've been researching a bit to be more prepared to help... hmm I do hope Giles isn't thinking he should recommend us to the Watchers... no we're not British should be fine.

Since its 1999, I'd probably pick something other than board games modern era totally. I'd rather suggest DnD as an outlet there more freeform ultimately... Xander DM... seeding villain plots into the DnD game would be funny, but it is probably weakening the decompression there. Which is why I think I'm leaning towards a hobby. Cooking/Baking could be useful because you do get a treat at the end of it and it can be a group effort. Though something like Drawing/Painting feels nice (Art Teacher Angel? Dude can draw very well), music could be fun because Marcie already has some skill in it as does Giles, though playing at the Bronze would be hard for Willow given her stage fright, but it is potentially a way to hasten her introduction to Oz, which is an interest of mine... hmm. Musical instruments feels like a nice thing, making the Scoobies our copywrite infringing band-name also just kinda makes me chuckle.

I can't help but feel that keeping this a secret for too long will come back to bite us. Either Angel will find out and tell Buffy, or Buffy will go to the bar for intel once she learns about it (however she learned in canon) and see Xander there. I'd rather have the nominal adult in the group know what's going on. Xander has been going for a while, and providing information about the ritual should prove that his info-gathering expeditions with Marcie are worth it.

I'm not sure that Buffy would be willing to play DnD.

For hobbies, my main two questions are how to get everyone on board and where the hobbies will take place. Does the school have a kitchen, and can they use it? Buffy might agree to drawing/painting if it means spending more time with Angel, but I'm not sure she'd want to play music. Hmm, I think we need to think out how to suggest hobbies to Buffy. "You need a way to decompress from fighting," might just lead to her saying that she should go shopping more.

[X] Suggest we try and pick up a creative group hobby besides monster slaying, beginning with maybe trying out playing music with Marcie's direction or maybe drawing/painting with Angel's.

[X] Bring up to Giles that you think one of the books said something about reviving things like the Master, press how confident is he that those bones are safely disposed of? Perhaps we should reconsider them?

I'm fully happy with the first write in, less with the second. For the Bones I think bringing up the Ritual would potentially cause Giles to think a bit more on it, but it would mean we wouldn't be necessarily alone if we went for it. Even if nothing majorly changes with it (IE we don't successfully unearth the bones for ourselves) it likely pushes Giles to getting a more correct understanding and reading of the ritual which likely sets us all up better for what the vampires actually want.

I'll go with the first write-in, but I think that now is the best time to tell Giles about info-gathering from demons before Xander's friends find out another way and think he's working with the enemy.

[X] Tell Giles that you've been spending time at a demon bar under the cover of wanting to create a monster movie in order to get information about what the supernatural world is up to BEFORE everything goes wrong. Recently, the local vampires have been talking about the newest vamps following a child vampire who wants to resurrect the Master with a ritual involving his bones.
-[X] Check with Marcie beforehand about whether she wants her role revealed too.
-[X] If Giles protests, point out that you've already made clear that you know that fighting against the supernatural is dangerous, but just living in Sunnydale is dangerous. You're fine with the increased danger if it means your friends are more likely to survive.

I like this. This also encourages Giles to give more thought and concern to others (Xander in this case), beyond just being concerned with more people than Buffy.

Back to School Hellmouth
You headed over to Giles' a couple days before school was due to restart. Giles of course thought you were there for Marcie, and was surprised when you told him you were in fact there to see him.

"So, I've been going to a demon bar."

"Beg your pardon?"

"I've had a lot of time this summer, and I've done a lot of thinking. I thought it'd be good if we could be quicker on the beat about things. You've got your books, of course, and Buffy has her slayer senses, but that doesn't catch everything. So I thought I'd listen in, and see if I could get some info ahead of time."

"Xander, that's...that's incredibly dangerous."

"I know, but I really prefer knowing where the next hit is going to come from. We've been doing alright so far, but this is the Hellmouth. People die here, all the time. I'd rather not have someone in our group be next. And they're pretty chill about me being there. I've heard some good stories actually."

"Xander-I can't condone this."

"I'm not going to stop." You looked at him firmly. "I want to help, and you can't stop me from doing this. And I've learned something you might be interested in researching before Buffy gets back."

That got Giles' attention. "What is it?"

Internally you cheered. You did your best to remain serious. You needed Giles to listen to you, not write you off. "That kid vamp the Master turned before fighting Buffy? He's working on a way to bring him back."

Giles took off his glasses and started to clean them. "I see. This is, indeed, worth researching. I was sure that we had seen the last of him."

"Maybe we have." You shrugged. "Some of the vampires down at the bar aren't too impressed with this, so I don't know how it's gonna go. But they're gonna make the attempt, so we should try to stay ahead of it."

"Right." Giles turned to grab some of his books. "Don't think this means this is over," he warned you.

You had that down pat. Now you just needed to figure out how you'd get Willow and Buffy on board as well. You were less focused than usual the day before school when Buffy returned, interrupting a patrol you'd been running with Willow. As you'd expected she was swinging between pretending to be a perky normal girl and condescending edge over being the Slayer. The dance with Buffy in the Bronze was hot, enough to get you flustered and forget until she ditched you that she'd just been using you. You burned with shame and anger at that. You cared, and you deserved better than being treated like that. Willow deserved better. You'd say Angel deserved better, but you knew how he acted with lovers.

Buffy reacted just as angrily as before when Giles informed her that the vampires might be trying to resurrect the Master. At least Giles had more assurance to offer this time, and was able to talk with her about setting up watch where the bones were buried to catch them before they got too far.

While I'd like to focus on school, Xander is already putting his neck out by listening for info at the bar. It feels wrong not to see things through.

Xander got useful information and Giles can't argue against that even if he doesn't like the risks.

[X]Volunteer for helping to watch

I think that limiting the risks would likely be something Giles would prefer.

The game-sense in me is eyeballing snack duty... but I'm going to concur, we should be there for whatever happens. I hope Cordy gets to sort of set Buffy straight this timeline too by calling her out again at some point, but I doubt we'll see that encounter.

I had been thinking team support via snacks, but I suppose I do agree with the seeing things through more directly

Brick by Brick
You were quick to volunteer to help watch the bones. Buffy was mean about all of it of course, even Cordelia calling her out on her catty attitude. The watch itself was tense, and felt like it was doing a whole lot of nothing. Surprisingly it came out as a success. The vampires were caught before they could get the bones themselves. Things were halted before they had a chance to fully get started. These small changes you were creating felt good. You were changing what was happening. Sure you still weren't taken as seriously as you wished, but that was slowly starting to shift.

The next big event dealt with Frankenstein. Well, Frankenstein's brother at least. One of the science nerds, Chris, had successfully resurrected his beloved brother after he died. The Hellmouth was doing what it did best and twisting the brother up, corrupting him. Now Chris and the creeper Eric were going to make Frankenstein's girlfriend for his brother. Through all this, the science fair was up.

Unfortunately this wasn't something you could say you had stumbled across. It was one of the more isolated incidents in Sunnydale, where someone who didn't know about the Supernatural stumbled into effects from the Hellmouth like Marcie had. So you had to figure out what you would be doing for this. The science fair was coming up at this time after all, and you also knew Cordelia would be the target for the only living victim to complete the patchwork girlfriend.

Marcie knows that Xander has knowledge he shouldn't have, right? He mentioned it to Marcie as a semi-explanation for how he knew about her. Could we ask Marcie to keep an eye on Cordelia and/or Chris and speak up if she sees something? She might be able to pass it off as just wandering around. Does she even go to her classes any more? I'm not sure what she does all day.

I'd like to focus on the science fair, but we might want to check on Willow if Buffy is still being mean to everyone.

Marcie could do that! She does know Xander has that gift. And she is home schooled now, but hangs out with them during lunch and after school

Great, thanks!

I'm not really sure if it's in character, but I want to focus on the science fair. Maybe Xander is aiming for more job options than canon Xander got.

-[X]Tell Marcie about the upcoming Frankenstein bride, and ask her to keep an eye on Cordelia and/or Chris. Hopefully, she'll be able to find some evidence that you two will be able to take to the others.

[X]Hang out with your friends
-[X] Push the group creative hobby concept a bit more, be it music, art, or something else that the group is most interested in trying first.
-[X] Make some "logic jumps" to the identities of those making the Frankenstein girl, and don't let Cordelia lose her head.

Cordelia is the only major person in danger for a bit here and the Scoobies will be able to deal with this especially with us doing some "Xander Intuition" things, they more or less solved this one through their already sloppy graverobbing I don't see this being that major a worry that we need to go significantly out of character. I think we do good work powering up the group cohesion more and following through with our previous suggestion for a group activity for decompression.
