For the Array, the first sign that something was wrong was when the massive fleet exited the Immaterium. Over two hundred warships had entered the Amenophis system, including over two dozen Astartes Strike Cruisers, seven Battle Barges and two Ark Mechanicuses. Hundreds of transports accompany them as countless regiments of the Asgardian Auxilia are brought to the hive world along with the Tech-Guard of the Mechanica Sororitas and three Preceptories of the Order of the Sacred Storm.
What should have been its first sign was the increased presence of Tau void assets as several warships of the Tau Fleet arrived in the Amenophis system. All of them are older variants as the lack of expected void combat means that the deployment of
Hero-class Cruisers and
Shark-class Escorts is deemed unnecessary. Similar to the human fleet that would arrive in the future, these warships were accompanied by dozens of transports as numerous communes are committed to the assault on Amenophis IV.
It doesn't take long for the Array to realise what is happening as the combined forces of the Asgardian Triumvirate, the Tau Empire, the Carmine Talons and Archmagos Belisarius Cawl begin to burn towards its enslaved planet. It only has a short time to prepare its defences, but when the brainwashed humans are swiftly roused for the incoming attack, manning fortifications and turrets as the invasion fleet arrives in orbit.
Despite the plentitude of Astartes amongst the invading force, the Asgardian Auxilia are deployed first. The most inexperienced and therefore most expendable airborne regiments descend upon their valkyries to probe the defences of Amenophis IV, aiming for each of the seven remaining hive-cities on the planet.
The caution of the invaders soon proves warranted as the brainwashed defenders fire a barrage of missiles at the incoming valkyries. The pilots do their best to dodge, but the challenge of such a task rapidly ramps up as the warheads go off in unnatural explosions. The Vortex Missiles rip gaping holes into reality itself, creating an effective moving mine-field for the valkyries that aren't immediately destroyed. For those that survive, they find themselves facing more conventional anti-air fire in the form of long-ranged lascannons.
Of the initial wave, less than a quarter of the soldiers survive to reach the surface and most of them from valkyries that were forced to land in the toxic wasteland outside the hive cities. Those who actually make it into the hive cities are soon overwhelmed by its defenders, butchered by soldiers clad in wargear akin to the Solar Auxilia of the Great Crusade. Volkite and plasma weapons gun down the inexperienced soldiers equipped with the standard flak armour and lasguns.
Yet this entire attack was nothing more than a probing attack, a scouting gambit by the invasion force. Barely a fifth of the first wave is still alive by the time that the first hour is up, but they have done their job well and provided invaluable tactical data to the rest of the invasion force.
Using the data provided from the first wave, the battle barges and strike cruisers in orbit above take aim with their bombardment cannons. Targeting the missile and lascannon installations along with any locations with a high amount of similarity, death from above is rained down upon the hive cities.
It is a destructive affair with plenty of collateral damage, but the world and its people were never the true prize here. The promise of archeotech and the ability to produce more of it outstrips any other concern. Even the kindest of Space Marines are no stranger to necessary deaths and in that regard, every human life on Amenophis IV is an acceptable casualty in exchange for success.
The second wave is more airborne regiments to test just how many of the anti-air defences remain intact. The results are promising as while there are more vortex missiles and lascannon fire, the amount of it is far less than before. Enough that close to three quarters of the valkyries are able to land within the perimeter of the hive cities and while they soon find themselves under heavy assault, it is enough to prove that further landings are viable.
The remaining airborne regiments are deployed alongside the Tau cadres and the Astartes companies while the other regiments of the Asgardian Auxilia begin more conventional landings. Valkyries, Mantas, Thunderhawks and Stormravens swoop down while drop pods plummet down in fiery flame. It is during this moment that Cawl unleashes his secret weapon, deploying a thousand Primaris Space Marines from each loyalist lineage. Hundreds of millions of mortal warriors assault Amenophis alongside over ten thousand Angels of Death.
The brainwashed defenders put up a fierce fight. The bulk of their forces are infantry clad in full-body carapace armour and armed with a mixture of plasma and volkite weaponry. Meanwhile their elites take the next step to power armour and wield graviton weapons, paragon blades and storm hammers. Powerful combat automata march alongside the enslaved humans, answering directly to signals from the Array.
Rapid response units come in the form of power-armoured elites riding on jet bikes, able to swiftly move about the various levels of the hive cities. Additional armoured support comes in the form of Rhinos and Predators, each machine built to exacting standards and a cut above the modern versions used by the invaders, akin to the relatively advanced models of the Great Crusade.
The defenders are a fearsome force, only matched and outclassed by an invasion force that is enough to bring an entire sector to heel. The invasion of Amenophis IV has more in common with a battle of the Great Crusade era than any more one, with millions of men and women fighting alongside thousands of Astartes against horrors of the Old Night. Even if the Imperium of Man or the wider galaxy will never learn of it, the Asgardian Triumvirate, the Mechanica Sororitas and the Tau Empire will never forget the conflict on Amenophis IV.

Captain Karl Voidson fires the
Repulsion of Heresy into the enemy soldier, blowing away the mortal clad in power armour-equse carapace armour with an unerring accurate shot. The enemy soldier is flung back and the Astartes ducks back as red volkite beams flash in his direction. Giving his relic plasma gun a moment to cool down, Karl fires up the
Wings of the Wasp soaring out from behind the hab block and unloads a trio of shots against the squad of enemy soldiers.
One loses her head while another has a smoking hole blown in their chest. The third has their arm blasted away and the rest of their body flung off the edge by the force of the impact. A stray volkite beam catches the Storm Avenger, causing his Iron Halo to flare up as it absorbs the shot.
He glances at the platoon of Auxilia troopers he was trying to support and is greeted by the sight of charred corpses. It is an unfortunately common state of affairs in Hive Prima where his 4th Company is part of the invading force. In some ways, the volkite weapons are worse than the plasma weapons and grav-guns. They might be lacking in effectiveness against the Space Marines, Sisters of Battle and Tau Battlesuits, but against anything short of that? A volley of volk-guns can incinerate entire squads at once.
He is about to make another go at the enemy defenders when the ceiling caves in, the half-crushed wreck of a Chimera transport falling down alongside the rubble. He runs towards it even as the enemy soldiers try to escape the falling wreckage. With the agility of a Space Marine, Karl weaves through the rumble.
He doesn't bother with firing the
Repulsion of Heresy, holstering it in favour of his paragon blade to conserve its ammunition. His foes are torn between trying to aim at him and fleeing the falling wreckage. Karl has no such hesitation as he carves his way through the defenders, cutting down one of them with each swing of his blade.
With the enemy eliminated, Karl fires up the
Wings of the Wasp, flying up through the hole into the battle above. More of the Asgardian Auxilia are engaging some of the defenders, a platoon's worth of regulars supported by a squad of power armoured elites wielding grav-guns.
"For the God-Emperor!" cries the Captain of 4th Company as he unleashes righteous fury upon the closest cluster of enemies.
He charges the enemy elites with inhuman speed, closing the distances before his opponents can react with their mortal reflexes. He slashes and stabs away at them, his energy-sheathed blade cleaving through their power armour where a lesser power sword would prove insufficient.
"For the God-Emperor, brothers and sisters!" calls Karl as he finishes cutting down the last of the enemy for the elite, "For the Primarch! For Asgardia!"
"For Asgardia!" howl the surviving Asgardia Auxilia as they rally, unleashes a scattered volley of lasfire into their remaining foes.
One thing remains true even on Amenophis and that is the need for a strong will. Even the greatest of hypnotherapy-based training cannot install courage or determination. Seeing a single enemy slaughter his way through their elites? The defenders break, no matter what indoctrination they have been subjected to. A few try to stand and fight, but the majority begin to run and are promptly punished for it. Harsh lasfire strikes their backs, multiple shots doing what one alone cannot and Karl adds himself to the fray as he kills the handful of defenders who continue to stand their ground.
The battle is costly, but it is surely being won by the invaders.

"We are the Avenging Storm!" cries Captain Scottus Lightson as the Captain of 7th Company watches another of his battle-brothers get gunned down, "Fight and die for the God-Emperor, brothers!"
The fighting in Hive Tertia is the fiercest on the planet and everyone here is paying the price. Vehicles duel in the streets while the infantry exchange volleys from opposing blocks and in enclosed alleys. Even the Astartes feel the brutality of the battle as the hive city and its defenders reap a toll upon the Angels of Death.
Scottus bisects one of his enemies with a flicker of his
Black Claws, the lightning claws shredding the unfortunate woman. Another raises his plasma gun, but the captain just fires the volk-gun of his armour into the unfortunate sod. Normally the enclosed carapace armour would protect against volkite, but at such a close range, it matters little. The man ignites in flames, screaming as he dies for Scottus has already moved on.
Closing the gap, he claws and rips his way through the latest wave of counter-attackers. His Iron Halo sparks and flares at multiple shots land, but Scottus ignores them as he focuses on butchering his foes. The enemy dies in droves, but this is just the first part of the latest wave.
"Jet bikes!" shouts a voice that Scottus doesn't recognise and the captain looks up just in time to see a score of hostile jet bikes with riders in power armour swooping in.
The attackers fire what they can and more than one enemy jet bike explodes in response. One even goes careening into a wall as the upper half of its pilot is obliterated by a lascannon. And yet it is not enough as the surviving riders fire their grav-guns at one of the Whirlwinds.
Scottus mentally winces as he watches the vehicle crumple for a moment before exploding as its ammunition stores are detonated. A few more jet bikes are gunned down, but just under half of them escape as they fly off. There is no hope of pursuit, especially not when a trio of Predators come rumbling down the street with plenty of infantry support.
"Take cover!" orders Scottus moments before the first of the enemy tanks opens fire.
A Chimera explodes as the plasma destroyer blows open its side. A Lemus Russ is crumpled by a grav-cannon while infantry exchange fire, as mortals and Astares die alike. Then the Tau strike, a trio of their Crisis Battlesuits descending upon the enemy Predators.
One explodes as a fusion blaster strikes its engines while another unleashes its twin plasma rifles upon a second Predator, melting its turret. Then as suddenly as they appeared, the battlesuits flee as they fire up their jet packs before the enemy can react to their unexpected presence.
"Kill them all!" orders Scottus as he fires his volk-gun into the enemy infantry, "For the God-Emperor!"
He really hopes that the other hive cities are going better.

"The bigger they are, the harder they fall," Halla quotes the ancient proverb as the Captain of 8th Company swings the
Wrath of Hallr into the damaged Kastelan Robot, crushing its head with his relic.
The enemy automata are tough enough that even a thunder hammer or power fist cannot simply tear them apart, but the
Wrath of Hallr is a more dangerous weapon than most of its kind. Most of the Kastelans still take two or three direct hits before they go down, but Halla is unrelenting in his assault.
Another Kastelan lunges for him, but Halla ducks over it, swinging his relic thunder hammer into his foe's knee joint. The automata drops to one knee and is forced to use one of its oversized hands to steady itself to prevent itself from face planting into the ground. Halla ignores his semi-fallen foe to focus on the enemy soldiers behind them, trusting his allies to deal with automata. He raises both arms to open fire with a storm bolter built into the limb holding the
Wrath of Hallr while his other hand grips a plasma pistol.
"We are the Avenging Storm!" roars Halla as he shoots both weapons at the enemy squad before firing up his jump pack and flying up into the sky.
One of the enemy is slain outright by his plasma pistol, but his storm bolter only injures a few of the enemy as it batters and cracks their carapace armour. In one swift motion, Halla holsters his plasma pistol to grip the
Wrath of Hallr in both hands, bringing down the thunder hammer in the midst of his foes.
The resulting shockwave sends the entire squad of enemy soldiers flying, their bodies broken by the sheer force of the impact. Then Halla is bathed in plasma, the field of his Iron Halo glowing brightly as an enemy Predator fires its plasma destroyer at the Storm Avenger.
Halla acts without hesitation, firing up his jump pack as he soars into the sky and backwards towards friendly positions. The hostile Predator with a platoon of enemy infantry supporting it, but a lascannon strikes the turret, burning its metal hide. Then a missile hits the side, blowing open the hull and blasting off the lascannon sponson. That would be enough to mission-kill the enemy tank, but reality isn't done with the Predator as the ground begins to give way.
Halla fires his storm bolter into the advancing enemy infantry as they scatter as the Asgardian Auxilia and the Storm Avengers unleash lasfire and bolter fire respectively. The Captain of 8th Company watches as the ground begins to crumble beneath the Predator. It takes a few moments, but the ground collapses behind the destroyed tank, sending it and a few nearby soldiers plummeting down to the next level.
The defenders seem surprised by it for a moment and Halla seizes his chance, firing up his jump pack and flying forth as he goes on the offensive with the
Wrath of Hallr once more. He is the Angel of Death and he shall teach these men and women what it means to face a Son of Guilliman. His only regret is that his foes had no agency in their poor choices, their decisions made for them by an Abominable Intelligence.

In the end, Amenophis IV falls to the invaders. The hive world simply lacked the resources and manpower to resist. One by one, each of the hive cities fall to the invaders albeit at a heavy cost as both defenders and attackers alike suffer massive casualties over the fighting. Ultimately, the defenders had no chance of victory and the only true question is how much of a price the Array and its slaves could make the invasion pay.
The battle came to a head when Archmagos Belisarius Cawl himself confronted the Array, seeking to capture the Abominable Intelligence so he could take it apart for its secrets. Yet before the Archmagos Dominus could handle the AI, the machine put the servant of the Omnissiah in a terrible dilemma. Rather than admit defeat, the Array attempted to unleash its reserves of Phosphex Bombs, an act that if successful would see the entire world and everything on it condemned to a fiery demise.
Making the choice to preserve the factories that had been captured intact, Archmagos Cawl was able to keep the Phosphex Bombs from going off. Yet that action came at a cost as the Archmagos Dominus was forced to engage in the destruction of the Array, ending the Abominable Intelligence to prevent the activation of its Phosphex Bombs.
The invading forces, the Astartes contingent fared best with only a little of a third of them dying. In the tight confines of the hive cities, around four thousand Space Marines were slain with the majority of them belonging to the Primaris Space Marines deployed by Archmagos Cawl. Freshly released from stasis for the battle, it became apparent that whatever Hypno-Indoctrination they had been given was woefully insufficient for their trial by fire.
Other forces of the invasion fared even worse. Over half of the invasion force had died taking Amenophis IV as even the reserves were ultimately committed in the end as the fighting in Hive Tertia, Hive Prima and Hive Quinta proved to be especially brutal on the attackers. Entire Tau cadres had been wiped out alongside whole regiments of the Asgardian Auxilia. The Vanaheim Valkyries had been especially hit hard as the famed guardswomen were used to stiffen the lines of other regiments where the fighting was at its worst.
The Mechanica Sororitas had also suffered with their Tech-Guard suffering heavy losses with veterans of the Forge World Civil War dying to the brainwashed defenders. They also expended more than a few irreplaceable wargear, something only made up for the Dark Age technology looted from the defenders. The Order of the Sacred Storm also suffered severe losses with a full half of their sisters dying on Amenophis. Of the survivors, perhaps a third could be called fit for battle with the rest being walking wounded in dire need of medical attention.
Archmagos Cawl's own forces suffered their own heavy losses as his automata suffered heavy losses fighting their counterparts in the Array's service. A grievous cost only off-set by the fact he had plenty of spare automata bodies and parts to repair or loot. Even better, two manufactorums for combat automata had been captured in Hive Quarta.
In fact, a grand total of twenty-nine of the Array's manufactorums had been captured intact. The vast majority were set up to construct weapons, mostly plasma, volkite and melee, but Hive Quarta had an intact manufactorum for graviton weapons while conversion beam manufactorum is captured in Hive Octavia.
Manufactorums for vortex missiles and bombs are also captured alongside the Phosphex Bomb manufactorum in Hive Tertia, which explained why the fighting there was the thickest and deadliest on the hive world. Another manufactorum is also captured in Hive Septima, this one being responsible for producing the stasis grenades that were handed out to the elites of the Array's brainwashed defender.
A trio of personal armour manufactorum are also captured. Two for the enclosed full-body carapace armour used by the enemy regulars, but one of them is for the high-end power armour used by the enemy elites. A few vehicle manufactorums are also captured with two for Predator battle tanks while a third is for Rhinos and the last is the most invaluable of the lot as it produces Jet Bikes.
There is also a great deal of wargear as plenty of enemy weapons and vehicles weren't damaged or destroyed and of those that were, a good number of them are repairable or at least salvageable. All of them are sized for mortal hands, meaning that if an Astartes is to use them, they'll need to be adjusted.
Most of the loot and production from Amenophis IV is fairly easily divided up as it is numerous enough that nobody involved feels left out. For some, it is simply a matter of splitting the available production between the interested parties such as Archmagos Cawl and the Mechanica Sororitas each receiving half of the automata production.
In other cases, production is limited enough and the desire for them is in high enough demand that a compromise must be discussed and agreed to.
Meanwhile control of the planet and its priceless and irreplaceable manufactorums is another thing that is decided upon. In the end, the invaders come to the agreement that the surviving Primaris Space Marines deployed will be turned into nine Space Marine Chapters to protect Amenophis IV and its invaluable bounty. They would be equally spread across each of the seven hive cities and the manufactorums contained within them.
Due to proximity and trust, the Asgardian Triumvirate will be responsible for supplying Amenophis IV with foodstuff, raw materials and other supplies. Even as the hive world remains independent of the Triumvirate, they shall be entrusted with ensuring that the planet remains fed and its manufactorums supplied.

So this is a big update to say the least and a major turning point in the quest. This is one of those change the galaxy moments because things will definitely be following canon any more. You didn't get a perfect victory even beyond the heavy losses as not all manufactorums were captured intact and the AI was destroyed instead of Cawl being able to data-mine it for goodies.
Anyway, the liberation of Amenophis IV was a quick and brutal battle and I hope I did it justice. You have a lot of loot available to you and while most of it will be decided upon via NPCs without player input, there are few items for you to sort out. Anyway, you won't be getting thousands of Archeotech weapons next turn and instead you'll be getting the option to convert human-grade Archeotech weapons into Astarte-grades. This is basically being able to produce them at a discounted price with the main limiter being available Techmarines to provide the expertise to get the work done.
Otherwise, the status quo in this region of space has been upended and your Chapter will be taking a turn or two to recover. You finally reached the limits of even the Storm Avengers as you'll have six Battle Companies benched next turn between dead battle-brothers and veteran promotions.
Please point out any spelling or grammar mistakes that you spot. Please quote them in the thread and explain what you think is wrong so I know what you are referring to.
