Quest Idea Thread

up to their eyeballs in debt
This! Make everything very expensive, so its impossible to not be in debt, while still doing actions. However, players can take out loans, but should pay interest in specific order or get some way around the debt. Like creating situations where bank gets destoyed or cannot longer function to demand payment of debt using their mercenary work, or something else. Players should constantly look at their debt score, constantly look for how to pay it or do something else about it, constant "we need to buy money".

My gosh, what is this, page 841!?

I currently have three ideas for a Sabrina the Teenage Witch Quest, which I partly thought to do to confuse the PMAS crowd.
The first idea would be the usual by Sabrina standards, with teenage troubles getting turned upside-down by magic. The second was for a prequel Quest starring Aunts Hilda and Zelda. The third was instead for a Sabrina (and other early Magical Girl) inspired Quest about a modern teen girl Onmyouji.

Then I thought I could economize by condensing these into one Quest, rather than have to juggle three new Quests all at once. Sabrina and the onmyouji girl could easily team up through the other realm with how it crosses distances, and I could have the flashbacks with the aunts be playable.

Given there's been multiple Sabrina continuities (e.g., the 1996 TV movie and sitcom are both in their own worlds), this would be set in a custom one, possibly with voters deciding some of the details.
I also wanted to use Sabrina's original origin of having been created by accident by Hilda and Zelda, making her also a homunculus basically, rather than the now common half-mortal one
Basing it upon a binge-worthy throwback show, with voter customized pre-game meta, plus Hilda and Zelda in flashbacks? Sabrina gets a sidekick even? A fresh take pitting the supernatural TGIF slot with contemporary occult! Please, Arlequine, are you still perhaps considering this quest?

It is a lot to juggle, though at the very least, can it gain fresh consideration in this thread you started to see how to best condense the idea? I'm assuming of course that many would look at Sabrina as indeed 'early Magical Girl'. But yeah, given it's from quite the number of pages ago, I just want to stress the idea is pretty valid all the same.

I think you're looking for this thread instead. The thread you linked is about crossing over non-fanfic SV stories, so that obviously rules out StTW, plus that particular crossover already has all the character slots filled out.
But I'd still be up for running a StTW Quest if people are interested, even if it wouldn't be my main priority

I'm idly considering some kind of a Fire Emblem Fates quest, since it's one of the only FE games I've played, and I think it has enough strong characters and concepts that you could do a lot with it.

Right now, said idea bouncing is either to lean into the mythology (a quest that starts with Corrin having been raised in Valla), one that's lighter on the mythos (Conquest!Route re-write, essentially)... or go a totally different direction, where Corrin decides to oppose both nations and fights to overthrow the monarchy in general as a revolutionary.

Warhammer Fantasy x Pokemon x LoTR crossover quest.

TLDR: Karak Vlag is deposited into Mt.Silver. The native pokemon and the League now have to live with the aftermath of a city-sized retirement home being dumped upon their door-step.

Original thought
Galrauch the Grimkaragdrakk, broke blessed walls and chiseled stone with his sorcery and flame. Karak Vlag burns. Daemons pour from the deeps; Daemonettes clash with Horrors in mine-shafts and the halls of the under-guilds. Still, victory remains possible, for no matter what the elgi claim, the Dawi too may be cunning. Both Tzeentch and Slaanesh wish to claim this prize for their own. So, under what the longbeards would call a umgak, ranger-minded plot in any other circumstance, the Rune-priests let their hammers sing alongside the ringing of chisels and picks; the Greatest Work since the Silver Age begins to form over-tunnel and under stone...

May Thungni and Valaya save our souls.

How is it a Lord of The Rings crossover?
General lore will be taken tbh, since I can't figure out how to make khazalid a working language. I also love the idea of using the older perception of dwarves, not wielding axes but mattocks, etc. Etc. It also just feels like a deeper mine of information to draw from, and I'll be using it to fill In a few of the gaps of dawi society, mythology, etc.

Free Watcher in the Dark comes included

you might consider running it as a plan quest rather than ck2. the Planquest format allows for longer term projects as opposed to the dc based approach of ck2, and against the storm isn't likely to have larger than life heroes that might benefit from a ck2 stat sheet.
I'd thought about it, and what I'm worried about is that the Planquest format is aimed towards outproducing one's problems, and that's not what I want to focus on. I'd rather focus on managing the internal factions of the settlement and the external factions of the City and the Forest, with the organization of production supporting the political game rather than the other way around.

Looking for more Frostpunk 2 than Frostpunk 1, is what I'm saying.

In your opinion, how would one combine Rimworld and Worm without just making a tinker quest? I was thinking maybe Taylor gets exiled to Rimworld universe every time she dies in Brockton, but I'm not sure where to go from there if I use that idea. My other thought was she has free access to Rimworld, and sort of run it like a refugee camp for the cities downtrodden. Maybe have Danny get offed or something and Taylor recruits the homeless as settlers but thats sort of avoiding the conflict in Brockton and transferring it to Rimworld.

Does Taylor have to be the access point for Rimworld stuff? You could have Rimworld stuff invading Earth Bet(Bugs in the sewers, a Void Monolith in an exclusion zone, etc) and Taylor and co. just caught in the middle.

Maybe have an AI-controlled sleeper ship crash land in Brockton Bay if you need Taylor to have an alternate source of powers.

She doesn't necessarily have to be the sole source, no. Could be a source of angst. "Am I letting these things through?"

I think Murder Drones would make a pretty neat quest either by itself or included in a jumpchain and thought about trying my hand at it but honestly got intimidated by thread formatting.

I agree, there was actually a dedicated murder drone art quest called Murder Drones Quest: Bad Oil, Badder Blood. I'd really like a vanilla murder drones quest like this where we can just make our own character and explore other exoplanets with it.

The End Times came and went. Mankind refused to bend to the whims of a far away god and worked to cast down those above them. Now Satan lies dead, killed by a missile strike, with Hell's armies shattered by humanity's guns. From the corpse strewn fields of along the Phlegethon, to the Swamps of the Suicides, to the Desert of Lust, Hell is now free of its demonic overlords. Now, however, billions of the dead move about, rootless and wandering. With only eternity in front of them and pain behind them, they must seek a new purpose.

You are one of these dispossessed, rescued from the tortures inflicted upon you by UN Reclamation teams. After spending time recuperating in a refugee camp, you have been deemed sane enough to take care of yourself and expelled from the camp. You have fallen into one of the shantytowns clinging to the outskirts of the camps, where vice and decadence run rampant and the dead seek to sate the living's needs for a chance at something more than mere day to day existence.

But who were you, before you died? With people from across the world and throughout time damned to Hell, you could be anyone from anywhere from anywhen, so long as you weren't sufficiently virtuous and pious.

Who were you?
[]You were a hippie who died of an overdose during the Summer of Love
[]You were a dirt farming peasant from medieval france
[]You were a German soldier during WWI
[]You were a soldier who fought against the forces of Hell
[]Write-in

A/N: This is a narrative quest set in the internet novella The Salvation War, specifically in Hell post-liberation by the forces of the living. I welcome write-ins, both for character creation and for actions. I've attempted a quest along these lines a few times and am now trying it again. I am modifying the setting as I see fit in order to make things interesting.

I have MANY Insane ideas.
That I can't really do myself because I am bad at writing.
So whoever reads this and is interested have at it.

So here's the Main One.

Metal Gear Solid X Star Wars
Big Boss Ends up in Star Wars (Up to the Writer how.).
We follow Big Boss either rebuilding MSF/Diamond Dogs/Outer Heaven from Scratch (Just Him) or mostly from Scratch (Some Soldiers and Main Characters.) where they have to adapt to this strange new Galaxy. Mother Base can Be a Massive Ship (Or a Fleet.) or a Space Station or even a Moon or Planet.

You could probably put it in any timeline, might even be a thing to ask the thread.

Random quest concept that I'll probably never use, may need some work, and seems pretty niche

Game Master(s)
In this quest the Questers are setting up scenarios for a rag-tag group of forces of chaos to navigate, doing their best to tell a good fun story when they can't control the protagonists nor the dice rolls

The quest will start off with picking the Theme (Basically what style of ttrpg they'll be emulating so we can focus on the game without worrying about world building first)

Theme Options

[] DOOMBLASTERS 7000
The Setting: A ridiculously horrible future universe filled with death, despair, war, and various abusive power structures of all kinds, mankind lives under the rule of a group of genetically modified psychic demigods called ULTRAMINDS, who dislike aliens who either aren't dead or aren't enslaved to the ever expanding Blaste Empire
The Party: Doomblasts, people with psychic potential drafted into serving their ULTRAMINDS as reality warping supersoldiers going into ridiculously deadly scenarios to accomplish whatever task they've been given tearing through hordes of rebels, aliens, and dark manifestations of the suffering of all sapient life

[] Unlidded Eye
The Setting: A place similar to Earth in the 1920s in style, but the countries, cultures, and politics are pretty different, cause the local churches are all worshipping multiple gods called the Divine Kingdom, there are mobsters about, secret societies sneaking around, and dark secrets about how the universe really works waiting to be found
The Party: Cabals show up when people start getting too curious for their own good, groups of normal people researching and investigating paranormal phenomena, trying to figure put what forces are at play, maybe even get a little power for themselves

[] A Crown For Beasts
The Setting: The continent of Vastrova is home to many regions with their own cultures, ruling houses, and peoples, all with animal ears or other minor traits, the powers that be play a great game of backstabbing, manipulation, and war to further their own goals, while otherworldly forces bless those who sign their pacts, basically A Song Of Ice & Fire but with catgirls & warlock pacts
The Party: Members and leaders of a influential power in the setting, a noble house, a cult, a mercenary band, a guild, maybe even members of the royal family of House Peppyr

[] Pantheos
The Setting: A ancient fantasy world with very literal metaphors for various phenomena and or beliefs walking around in the forms of gods and monsters, with great heroes going on quests to deal with the results of their shenanigans, or stop disasting from occuring due to divine drama
The Party: Demigods blessed with great power by the god representing the concept of Legends, with fatal flaws alongside their power due to the god of Legends representing all aspects of their domain, including tragic legends

[] Strange Ghost Trip
The Setting: Earth sometime during the 90s, but in the shadows lurk the Haunted people with surreal spiritual manifestations called Poltergeists, born from the greatest regrets and scars, with strange highly specific unique abilities, always getting into weird fights with eachother
The Party: A group of Haunted with a shared goal, and themed after a genre of movie or show, like buddycop detectives trying to stop a master criminal, some kids on bikes trying to save their homedown from a strange Poltergeist's curse, or maybe some Haunted hanging out in a van trying to figure out various paranormal phenomena (Aka more Haunted doing weird stuff)

Anyone got more ideas for Themes?

I've been playing with a concept for a couple of days now, of a LOTR quest set in a post-Sauron victory Fourth Age, using mechanics inspired the One Ring ttrpg system.

The main gist would be to oppose Sauron and his forces, while restoring the land and the freedom of the people, all while gathering enough allies and objects of power to eventually be able to challenge the Dark Lord, and free middle earth, all while doing your best to remain as undetected as possible, and doing your best to not lose hope in the face of Sauron's evil.

My main issue rn, is the mechanical side of things. In the RPG proper, theres 18 different skills, categorized by stat and type proper. I'm just concerned that having to choose from 18 skills each turn might be a bit too much, so im a bit stuck on how to adapt this system to a forum.

This is a short mechanic system I've made for a game about running a school that gives people superpowers. I would appreciate a second set of eyes; any holes or things not explained clearly?

Each student will come into the academy with one minor power.

Example: Kayla Jerrison can turn her hand into water.

By enrolling students in certain classes, you increase the chance of their powers developing in certain ways.

If Kayla takes Fine Arts classes, she has a chance of her power developing along the Shapeshifting track – perhaps converting more of her body, or distorting its shape more.

The relevant classes are:

Phys. Ed – strength and durability powers
Sciences – technological and object-manipulation powers
Fine Arts – shapeshifting powers
Mathematics – psychic powers
Orienteering – movement and nature powers
Weapons – energy/element manipulation powers

"You could try giving a student some of every class to diversify their abilities, but there's a risk it'll all wash out and they'll end up weak. On the other hand, you could go all in on the wrong class and stick someone with a lame power. Who knows?"

In addition, there are other classes which increase secondary statistics. These statistics are rated 1 to 10. They are also a blatant ripoff from PP.

Management – leadership, organization and finance skills.
Public Relations – making people love you and do what you want.
Spycraft – espionage and subtle work.
Tactics – making smart decisions in a battle or campaign.

There are also hidden statistics, which track certain attitudes. There aren't classes for these, but they change based on random events and your decisions.

Altruism – the desire to improve other people's lives.
Bravery – the ability to charge into a situation with less heed for your own safety.
Loyalty to Academy – let this fall super low and bad things might happen at the school.
Loyalty to Government – let this fall super low and bad things might happen after the school.
Ruthlessness – the ability to pursue your interests at all costs.

Kayla gets caught sneaking out to party in the nearby town. The Director chooses to scold her for risking exposing the program. Kayla may take the words to heart (+Loyalty to Academy, +Altruism) or feel resentful and resolve to try again soon (-Loyalty to Academy, +Bravery).

Depending on your personal views, you may want a stat to go lower instead of higher. It won't be a failstate one way or the other, just, there might be consequences if certain patterns emerge among graduates.

Students' personalities may also change in more unique, unmeasured ways.

Once a student has finished their time at the academy (currently set at 5 turns, but might change), you'll get a full overview of their powers, stats, and a snippet of their future!

Kayla was put through a curriculum heavy on Weapons and Phys. Ed. Though she never learned to turn her whole self to water, she has extreme control over external water, including conversion through the stages of matter, and can even use it to propel and shield herself. However, her statistics classes were sparse, so she might struggle off the field of battle. After completing her service, she becomes an independent hero under the name Cyclone!

Management: 2 PR: 3 Spycraft: 2 Tactics: 5

Altruism: 7 Bravery: 8 Ruthlessness: 3 LtA: 6 LtG: 5

Overall rating: B+

Status: Independent hero

As you continue in your job at the academy, you may find ways to better control what powers develop. You may also receive gifts from former students or other friends you make. The empowering project has only begun!

Any ideas for the name of the quest?

What kinds of gifts can be given by alumni/friends, and how can they be beneficial to the school/the PC?
Does every student have their own table of random events, or is it a random school-wide event each turn? Or both?
Should their be a class for "magical" powers (think Moon Knight/Shazam/Wonder Woman type powers) or is magic like that not real here?
