Idea: Dawn of Humanity space empire quest.
I have an idea partially based on civilization: BE and that one NatGeo neutron star destroys the earth "documentary" (It's a bit of a joke tbh)
Anyhow, basically for some *insert reason here* Humanity is facing extinction, and has to put together a colony ship, find a prospective colony, and set out to colonize it to make sure humanity survives!
My idea is this: The quest has 3 parts,
1. The intro phase, before the spaceship sets out. you have 10 turns (50 years) , you spend money on :
a.) Research into ship technology (cryogenics, propulsion, life support, orbital construction, fuel storage, )
b.) research into colony technology (dome life support, energy generation, automation, agriculture,
c.) finding a suitable planet (you spend money on every solar system you scan, if you find a planet you have to further spend money to scan more traits about it like size, atmospheric density, atmospheric composition, ect..
d.) constructing the ship (larger ships carry more cargo/passengers, faster ships have a smaller chance of suffering negative events while traveling, ships that carry more fuel can possibly go to a different planet within the system, better scanners allow you to prospect for resources, drones allow you to scan the rest of the solar system you arrive in, ect...)
e.) choosing the cargo (on the final turn you spend the money you get on the last turn + all money you didn't spend in previous turns on what cargo you bring.
2.) the colony phase. this phase is when you are responsible for your colony and it's various developments. On your arrival the exact details of the planet's general attributes are revealed: orbital period, axial tilt, surface temperature, atmospheric density/composition, mass, surface gravity, moons, ect...)
I don't exactly know how this would translate into statistics for penalties or bonuses, but things like thicker atmosphere= less meteors, lower radiation, more storms, gravity difference from human norms affects morale and health, atmospheric composition affects building maintainance depending on how bad it is (life support) along with requiring dedicated greenhouses if it's bad enough, tectonic activity affects earthquake frequency and the amount of raw minerals, planets with life can have various traits that can benefit or harm humans (think alpha centauri)
Solar System attributes also affect events at this stage: nearby asteroid belts affect event frequency, Sun types affect solar flares and radiation, elliptical orbits cause unstable seasons, ect...
You generally have to research, build, explore (possible alien ruins?), and overall survive to preserve humanity
3.) the Empire phase. You have once again reached for the stars, and the rewards of space exploration await you! This phase is reached once you have the potential to have manned flights to other planets in your system and have reached a set population/ tech level. You research, explore, manage an interplanetary (or interstellar if you get FTL) empire, and perhaps even colonize other planets! (you might even enter a first contact situation. Possible crossover?)
Hope someone picks up this idea! (I might crosspost it)
