Quest Idea Thread

Imagine, if you can, a really huge machine with six legs. How huge? Well, if you were thinking something like "Godzilla" think bigger. Much bigger. This thing leaves footprints the size of city blocks, deep enough to bury a four story building in. It's tall enough to tower over the One World Trade Center, and wide enough to straddle Lower Manhattan. It weighs more than the entire mass of concrete and steel making up that general area.

Still not picturing this well?

This leviathan is a walking fortress. It is a land-based aircraft carrier and long range artillery platform. When I say "long range", I mean "cross-continent" in most cases. It has 6 flight decks capable of launching and receiving several hundred humanoid mecha. It has thousands of VLS missile tubes. The bore of its main guns and the thickness of its armor in even the thinnest spots are measured in meters. The very act of firing its guns can level skyscrapers on its own, while the impact of its shells is like a nuclear attack. Operating it requires a several thousand man crew.

This mythical beast and its nation-destroying firepower now rest in your hands.

But not in the way you're probably thinking. Oh no, it's much weirder and more disturbing than that.

Imagine taking that entire walking city and shrinking it. A lot.

Down to the size of a human being. Well, about 8 feet tall, but still kind of in the realm of human possibility.

And then making it human shaped.

If you still don't get the idea, here's some helpful examples.

Your name is Spirit of Motherwill.

You are a KanMusu, or Fleet Girl.

By your will, it shall be done.

DO EEET!

That would seriously be a fun personified weapon to play as.

I would probably not run this myself, for several reasons.

I don't play KanColle and only know enough to be dangerously stupid when I try to use it for anything.

I haven't played Armored Core 4 or AC: For Answer and wouldn't be able to use most of it for material aside from Motherwill which I have been reading into for the last couple days.

I have no idea what the quest setting or intent would be.

And lastly, I have never run a quest before.

I put a lot of thought into Spirit of Motherwill's KanMusu personification though.

Motherwill's reincarnation is slow, methodical, extremely deliberate with everything she says and does, very patient, isn't proactively aggressive, speaks loudly all the time even when not yelling, hates people being close to her and especially despises being touched without her specifically asking for it.

Extremely demanding. High maintenance. However, she is an extremely reliable person that will absolutely do what she promises to do, no exceptions. She is very experienced and virtually nothing surprises her anymore. She has zero concern for collateral damage and tends to walk right through her problems instead of go around them.

She is terrified of fire and being left behind.

Despite her immense power, she is not arrogant in any way. She is in fact keenly aware of the flaws in her design. If she weren't such an old, experienced and totally undefeated war machine she would have a severe inferiority complex. Because her weaknesses are in a sense a direct result of her greatest strengths, she doubles down on what she does well rather than fight against those flaws.

Lastly, she tends to think in terms of profits, losses and resource management. In her past life she was the projection of Bernard and Felix Foundation's dominion in the Economic Wars. She was the vanguard keeping a corrupt mega-corporation from falling apart in the face of its equally corrupt enemies. She didn't fight wars for glory or prestige or any such high ideals. She fought for wealth, power and control.

Uhm...

I've been thinking about doing a quest on a similar to 4Chan speed to do.

Basically, a 'Time' is decided when the players are all ready to post, the Dm comes up, and with blinding speed updates the Quest as it goes on for at least a few hours, until the DM calls it quits until the next time. This, of course, without the 4Chan natural vitriolic status and while still following the forum rules.

Thoughts on the idea?

Tried it once. Didn't have the intended results. Your players must be invested in the game to really meet your expectations.

SV is more laid back.

Nanomachine Core Quest

Operational Systems Boot...

System Core OS 89723.A.80

Startup...

Check Drives...OK
Check BIOS...OK
ROM...OK
RAM...OK

Begin System Diagnostic...

Warning! Core Systems Exposed!

Activate Nanofactory systems...OK

Systems come online as you scan the surrounding area, finding your Core Systems lying on a hard floor. As more sensory systems come online you begin to take stock of your surroundings.

[]You are lyimg on a stone floor with torches burning in the room, casting a light on a variety of archaic-looking surroundings.
[]The room is a plain, featureless concrete chamber, illuminated only by a single lamp hanging haphazardly from the ceiling.
[]The room is smooth, high-tech and clean. You locate the light source; strips of unknown material in the roof.
[]You are...some place. (Write In)

Shifting your core, you begin to extrude the primary component that allows you to function. Trillions of nanomachines begin to flow out of...

[]A large mechanical core device. Vulnerable, but much tougher than it appears.
[]A mass of larger core-nanomachines that begin assembling the replacement slave-mass.
[]A group of small core-machines that begin shifting into the larger mass.

Nano-machine Quest

You are a nano-machine, and you are now online.

You appear to be suspended in the middle of some sort of fluid.

Wut do?

The Nazis would never let a faunus in their armed forces. 0/10 SOD broken.
On an equally silly note, how come the bad guys always have the snazziest uniforms?

Because Hugo Boss is German. Also, Girls und Panzer has nothing to do with Nazis. It's about the epitome of feminine activities, Tankery!

Maybe I should have included smiles... I try to avoid those just on principle.
Also, if you think you can pull it off, go for it.

In other news, Lost Fleet quest appears to be dead, so my itch for some good old fashion rioting needs scratching once more. Defenders of Mountain Glenn quest, anyone?

Smilies do help with tone, so it isn't like they're completely frivolous, though I know many people dislike them. Sadly, there is no way I could pull off a RWBY quest. I lack both the time and it just makes me too sad. I was just answering your question. It's a compulsion.

Well, not you, anyone really. I'm always looking for new stuff to do.

Speaking of which, I have not one, not two, but THREE riot quests watched, and they're all dead. And this is in addition to the sadly concluded original, mind you. I need more of this.
EDIT:
@Trent01 , @BeRzErKeR , @ShirowShirow , if any of you read this, please tell me other things came up and that you didn't just up and forget.

What is the definition of a Riot quest by the way?
Rather than votes counting towards one characters action, they each represent the action of one soldier in a larger group. Or one group of soldiers in a larger army. Or one spaceship in a larger fleet. You get the idea.

Say we're tasked with defending a barricade, and ammo's running low. 5 People vote to stay and 2 vote to go get more. In a normal quest, this results in the protagonist staying. In a Riot Quest, this results in 5 faceless goons* staying and 2 running to get ammo. Really encourages co-operation and communication between players.

*Players are encouraged to write Omakes for the soldier carrying out the action they voted for. Helps the GM flesh out the setting and figure out how things play out. If they're lucky, the soldier they wrote about will do better and possibly get promoted.

Hmm I am now picturing something like the Touhou religion wars.
